21  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 20, 2018, 02:00:05 AM

On the one hand it is good, and on the other hand it is bad.

I've been hanging around reddit too much, all I can read from that image is "On the But on one hand, the other I need to lose hand Weight Donut."

Jesus, I haven't been here in ages. I changed my harddrive and next thing I know, I lost access to my hotmail account (good riddance, honestly), my FanFiction.net account  ( Sad ) and this account. But I'M BACK. And I'm happy to see familiar faces. Now that I'm taking a look at my account, I wanna humble-brag about this one comment I made (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178336.msg10495527#msg10495527). "From the mouth of babes comes truth", I believe the saying goes? God, I wish I would have sincerely believed my own words. But there's no point in crying over lost opportunity. One must use it as a learning experience, to not miss out on future ones.

Yes! That's it!! Thank you!

I'm downloading it right now. Adding it to my personal multimedia collection. It's a shame its not legitimately available. I'd happily pay 0.0004BTC (currently 0.8 USD) for it. It would be so easy, cheap and convenient to set up... their loss, I guess.
23  Other / Off-topic / Does anyone have the Inside Man episode on Bitcoin? on: June 01, 2017, 04:30:30 AM
I'm talking about the one featured in the following youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jtkCIAgV7s

I can't manage to find it anywhere. There seem to be no DVDs of the series or active torrents. I would very much appreciate it if anyone could provide a link to where I could download the episode. Thanks in advance.

I think that exchanges adding diversity to their options is a double-edged sword. On one hand, it can give legitimacy to bitcoin as part of an investment group, a digital currency type and the like. On the other, Altcoins that are not as solid as bitcoin could drag down bitcoin's reputation in case of something going wrong. I think dogecoin did that to some extent, what went wrong is that it is completely useless. That digital currency was a joke that got some people in the door, but turned others away from the ecosystem... Like if you wanted to open an account in a bank and found a birthday party for a 6-year-old, clowns and all.

All in all, it's a mixed bag. And I think it signals progress, but not without risk. I think bitcoin is still in its infancy, which is why people mock bitcoin.

Gah, you guys talk too much. There's just no keeping up. I'm a firm believer in the motto "buy when there's blood in the streets, sell at the sound of trumpets" problem with bitcoin is that if you time the sound of trumpets wrong, you ether miss out or you get wrecked with a losing short. We're doing great, market cap is the highest it's ever been, soon to be followed by the price. I think the market cap indicates that the market has finally recovered from MtGox, three years ago. And I'm amazed at how quickly our little asset that could has bounced off of a bubble where the price increased 100 times initial value in a year and a few months. Bitcoin has seen price increase every single year except 2014. The closing price of bitcoin in 2011 saw it at a 1,100% increase over its opening price that year. 2012 saw a 116% increase, 2013 saw an incredible and bubble-tastic 6,053% yearly price increase. 2014 saw a 60% drop in price, 2015 saw a 49% increase in price and 2016 is shaping up to hold a 100+% increase.

I got in 2015, when the nay-saying was at its maximum. I wanted to check bitcoin instead of relying on internet sources. I was hopeful. My first post here was that of hope. February 18th, 2015... I said we'd reach $900 by 2017. And, well... what else is there to say? Be careful, dont over-leverage, and don't get cocky. Best of luck, everyone.

So, we're right at the door of a rally. Bitcoin is stable, people are regaining confidence in purchasing the thing as an investment and I'm as ready as I can get with my minuscule trading budget. So, to commemorate this day, I made a chart. I haven't had any formal teaching of forex/exchange/commodity market markets and finance, but I think it paints a good picture. An accurate picture. I have seen people trying to draw trend lines from the bottom up. I thought to myself "what if I draw from the top down? This is basically what I came up with. I hope it's at least somewhat entertaining/informative.

I'm using bitfinex, because that's what I'm using nowadays. I wanted the "wishful thinking" part to have the two peaks closer, time-wise... but I had already written "Enter the bull" and was too lazy to move it. Good luck, everyone. It's been a wild (almost) two years, I look forward to spending another two years here.

Good AM BTCland.

$603 on Bitcoinaverage. No rockets, no sinking ships.

Blah.

And I need it to stay that way for just one more week.
29  Economy / Speculation / Re: When can we expect sub $350 price? on: September 09, 2016, 06:14:36 AM
Nope. Never dropping under $450, ever. That is, assuming we ever go under $500, which is unlikely.
30  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 09, 2016, 03:19:15 AM
obviously the market has recovered from the bitstamp hack that happened a year and a half ago. The market looks good enough for me to say that it's probably recovered from the bitfinex hack (even though bitfinex itself has not recovered). It's only a matter of time to secure a full recovery from the MtGox fraud and/or hack.

Edit: I think we'll see a bit of a repeat of 2015. $750+ will be a pain in the ass resistance... Until it's not anymore.

BathSaltsDealer is not NotLambChop and can be confirmed as a govt. agent ... thanks for outing yourself scumbag.

People have been trolling here since the price was $230. The people saying bitcoin is useless or claiming that there's doom lurking around every corner for bitcoin are just people that have whatever broken life that leads to dedicated trolling.
I bought my first bitcoin fraction at $280 in 2015 and I though it was expensive. Now I know better than to distrust  bitcoin's inherent deflationary nature (and how well it retains value compared to the USD due to that attribute). So, with this simple rule of thumb, I avoid being a bagholder. "No buying bitcoin for 16 months after bitcoin increases value above 80 times in the span of one calendar year. No buying for 3 months after the price doubles in the span of two months".
Plus, there's the undeniable fact that if started January 1st 2013, setting a time (monthly or yearly) to buy a set amount of bitcoin (an amount you're comfortable losing), it would have resulted in profit. Running the numbers, I get an 900%, 16%, 46% and 10% increase on initial investment if a yearly purchase strategy was deployed (every Jan 1st staring 2013, 2014, 2016 & 2016 respectively). That is, using the current price of $560 to value those bitcoin.

Trolls are as obsessed with the ATH as the bulls, and they say that since we're under it, bitcoin must be a failure. But I just checked, and the price was over $900 a total of 13 days (not in a row). So I'm sitting here thinking that if the price remains above $900 for 13 days in a row, we can consider the market completely recovered from MtGox and any other temporary setback its seen.

BUT, I am considering buying bitcoin this weekend, so be ready to have bitcoin go to $530 a few minutes after I buy.

Yeah, I was a bit angry that what I lost was replaced with an IOU that might be worthless soon. I'll just hodl on for dear life and hope for the best. My totes-legit-math-numberizer machine says this is a temporary setback. So I'm just going to sit back, relax... and see what happens.

Aren't most of your trades for like $30 to $40? I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Hehehe, yeah. Still, taking a loss in never feels good. Even if I'm still green from the last time I put money into bitcoin trading. But still, I think I've taken proper advantage of this opportunity. I think we're oversold at the moment.

I devoured everything, but I'm still hungry. I like bringing up that quote from time to time.

Man, I think last time I was here was when I was talking about my pre-halving plan. That worked out OK, until I lost 40%-50% of my profit in the bitfinex hack.

Don't lose your confidence
If you slip
Be grateful for a pleasant trip
And pick yourself up,
Dust yourself off
And start all over again.

Heh heh. Thanks. "You win some, you lose some", in this case... both! I find it kind of funny. Like when you've just had a meal an you feel a lingering feeling of hunger for just one moment. Then you smile. Yeah, I was a bit angry that what I lost was replaced with an IOU that might be worthless soon. I'll just hodl on for dear life and hope for the best. My totes-legit-math-numberizer machine says this is a temporary setback. So I'm just going to sit back, relax... and see what happens.
34  Economy / Speculation / Re: New ATH by July 2017 on: August 11, 2016, 09:50:25 PM
I guess you may be right here. The fact that hash rate only had 1 small dip before returning to previous levels is a good indicactor that miners are not going anywhere.. In addition, the new generation miners is around the corner, making the mining more efficient thus more profitable, which is a good indication that the hash rate is not going to drop in the future.

I think July 2017 is even a bit too far away for a new ATH. I expect to see something like 2013, where we get a good rally by the end of the year. The fundementals are ok now, and the new supply is diminishing. Also, the over selling as a result from the bitfinex hack is corrected and we are stable again.

Funny you should mention that. I've been taking the price and organizing the information, to present as a prelude to my pet project "buy $10 of bitcoin every newyear's day and hold in cold storage for 4 years". Anyways, The price seems to be higher by the end of the year, on average (2012-2015 bitstamp). Even excluding 2013 from the equation... December and November are the worst time to buy, the best being February to May (on average, using the daily closing price in bitstamp, according to coindesk). I know I'm doing a very simplistic analysis, but I can't help but feel it points to Bitcoin's inherent deflationary nature. Even though we see harsh crashes from peaks... the floor's always moving up. It's amazing! If you didn't happen to buy at/near a big peak.
35  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 11, 2016, 09:17:39 PM
This is the only real thread left in the sub. Every other thread is completely fake and only exists because people get paid to post nonsense.

"Price will rise in 2016?"

created may 2015

9 pages, all Asians with bitmixer sigs, translated shitposting.

Well, any single-topic forum will get kind of same-y after half a decade of people discussing that one thing. That's why I only come here from time to time. Man, I think last time I was here was when I was talking about my pre-halving plan. That worked out OK, until I lost 40%-50% of my profit in the bitfinex hack. Everyone in reddit is like that ghost in Dead Space 2.

It's really insane to look back and think this crazy journey started a year and a half ago...
So, I'm confident saying that the market will soon recover from the Bitfinex hack. Getting back above $600 decisively might take one or two months that might feel like an eternity, but after that... It's back to recovering onto (and past) the ATH set in the 2013 MtGox bubble. Oh, boy. I'll be sure to be here to celebrate with you guys & gals.
36  Economy / Speculation / Re: the price will recover just like it did from the mtgox debacle over 2 years ago on: August 04, 2016, 01:13:36 AM
I can only hope this keeps the price below $600 for a month or two. I have a feeling three digit prices won't last long...
37  Economy / Speculation / New ATH by July 2017 on: August 03, 2016, 07:47:44 PM
Everyone that sold under $500 forgot the halving just happened. They're in for some regret these coming months of a halved production rate. So far, it seems the worst-case scenario of a cascading hashrate reduction, fueled by blocks taking longer and longer to mine (because of slow difficulty adjustment) did not and will not happen. I ran the numbers through my arbitrary-line-drawer and totes-legit-math-machine. And it told me to expect bitcoin's price to be above $1200 July 13th 2017.

Be ready. Use cold storage. Stay away from HYIPs.

Good luck, everyone!
38  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 20, 2016, 02:00:36 AM
Reversal or fakeout?  Cool

No way to tell, really. I've got a small margin short (base price $760) that I have small sell orders for, going all the way up to $900. I think we're over-bought, we can test the ATH, but not punch through it (for long?). Ether way, the top of this rally is soon approaching. The next test of support might go into even the low $600s, in the coming two months. Good luck, everyone.
39  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 20, 2016, 01:36:55 AM
So, I made it out of this rally with the same USD amount my stash was worth when this started... but I kept 45% of my btc stash. That was great.
Yea, right  Roll Eyes
Bitcoin will never reach $700 again. This is why I have liquidated my position in Bitcoins. There is very little upside going forward. Block size limit is too low. No forward moves of late have any traction whatsoever and demand continues to lag. Way too little upside for such a risky proposition so my advice is to move into dollars.  Only a significant change in the economy could alter this forecast.

Urm... I did keep my BTC. That thread was a parody on this one (Bitcoin will never reach $20 again). Come on.

I call shenanigans.

Ding Ding Ding! Congratulations! You win a price, friend.

[...]
I think we might see it just barely touch $700 at the incoming pre-halving pump (which will be followed by a nasty, delicious-price-providing crash).
