21  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] TitanMint 1BTC "Goldline" on: December 30, 2020, 05:17:28 AM
One just sold in auction recently https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5292595.0

wow! 1.04BTC amounts to only a ~0.025BTC premium, which is hardly worth the risk of shipping a loaded coin.

I'm still open to offers, for the coin in either loaded or spent state.
22  Economy / Collectibles / [WTS] TitanMint 1BTC "Goldine" on: December 30, 2020, 03:12:34 AM
Looking to find the value of a Titan Mint 1BTC (loaded) "Goldine" coin, with Private Key included (not the 2FA version).

I don't see these selling often, and doubt they will get much premium in comparison to the risks of shipping a loaded coin from canada. I'm open to offers if anyone would do >1.20BTC for the coin or a compelling alternative.

Will post pics in coming day(s). Coin is "mint condition" in original capsule w/ drawstring bag and Titan certificate of auhenticity.
23  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Canada ONLY: Taxes and law on: December 18, 2020, 10:42:36 PM
I read over this thread and decided to give it a poke since i didn't run across the answer i was looking in to.

Ok so cheapo miner after a month has generated some value currently still sitting on the slush pool.

I am aware of Canadian law dealing with capital gains.   That's what i am attempting to avoid in this cycle of what I wish to do with this value.

Is there a Canadian investment company or bank that will accept that value without converting it to capital gains and reinvest it and eventual filter it out through my TFSA?

What I seem to have run in to is that all the banks and investment company's will not accept any outside crypto.  they Will deal with crypto if you have bought it from them or one of their ETF's that track the value but it seems to be internal only.  I totally understand why.

so the short version of the question  external mined crypto converted to something Canadian banks/investment companies trust without having to declare capital gains as step.

First part: No - you couldn't use it to "load" your TFSA. However, you *might* be able to transition from BTC to a BTC-tracking equivalent (such as QBTC or GBTC) in taxed trading accounts, without triggering capital gains/losses at that time. I'm not entirely sure if this would be acceptable to the CRA though. (to my understanding, CRA will not allow you to "lock in" capital losses by selling and re-purchasing an asset - though it may work differently for capital gains?)

Second part: "newly minted" cryptos should be considered some of the "cleanest" coins possible, assuming you can demonstrate that you controlled the mining equipment at the time. I suggest keeping records and bills of sale, especially if you have a larger [5KW+] mining operation; and whether it could be construed as a business [>20kW?] and not simply a profitable hobby).
24  Economy / Collectibles / Re: A loaded Ten bitcoin Casascius silver gilt coin in orig. case + some brass 1s on: December 18, 2020, 10:25:38 PM
I’m actually not a great fan of capsulation. I had it done for some actual coins in a collection I have, and I actually regret it. You lose the chance to hold these objects in your hand which is part of the joy of owning them.
Depends whether you are a fan of scuffs and tarnish on your coin Wink

But yes there is something special about the coin outside of its capsule, where you can see the finer details and really see the beauty of the gold plated rim (on the 2013 Gilt)
25  Economy / Collectibles / Re: I have a peeled Lealana 0.1BTC coin - having trouble importing wallet on: December 17, 2020, 04:19:48 AM
for whatever reason Electrum says the wallet has 50 mBTC. Thing is, I looked the address up on a block explorer and it says it has 0.05BTC.

50 mBTC = 0.05 BTC

whats wrong?
26  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [INFO] Casascius Original Price Overview on: November 30, 2020, 02:02:40 AM

2013 - Blank 5BTC Token with plain gold foil sticker - Roll of 45 (no BTC value):
Price: BTC0.90
Description: Allows you to create your own Physical Bitcoins. Includes private keys, or print your own private key inserts with downloadable Bitcoin Address Utility. Does not include a hologram, but you can use the included gold foil sticker or buy your own generic 1" diameter hologram on eBay.

Was this the series of 5BTC unloaded coins with a clear sticker over a green public key?

Yes they are. The roll came with private keys + stickers:

Were the private key stickers pre-attached? I've never attempted to load mine because i wasn't sure whether the keys were sealed like a casascius or open to middleman attack.

A real charming 1 ounce gold coin with 1000 bitcoins.

DIAMETER: 30mm

COST: $200 premium over gold spot price (subject to a $1850 per coin reserve), plus shipping, plus you provide the 1000 BTC. Complete with BTC, this is approximately a $5000 coin.

31  Economy / Collectibles / Re: What would you pay for an unredeemed 1k BTC Casascius coin? on: November 15, 2020, 07:17:51 PM
Just curious how many Bitcoins people would pay for an unredeemed 1k BTC Casascius Coin.

We had a discussion about this topic in the German local section but need some experts now.  Cheesy

The last unloaded-unredeemed coin sold for 2BTC: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5276323.msg55269755#msg55269755

If loaded, with 2 major forks and gold value accounted for at current value, come to about 26BTC for those.
Not sure what kind of premium the seller would want, but say toss in to make it an even 50BTC... so 1050BTC for a loaded 1000 btc Cas???  maybe... only time will tell.
That's still a $400k premium..but then again, you are looking at a 1 of 2? or 4? coins that were ever loaded..

^thats about right imo.
32  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] 2013 Casascius Silver/Gilt [MS-69] on: November 15, 2020, 07:13:44 PM
blazedout419, stunning coin, one of the cleanest I have seen.  You have seen some 70s I believe, can you see any reason this one is not a 70?  I could not from those photos.  Liooks flawless and great eye appeal.

Good luck with your sale!

It is a very clean coin and might be worth sending back in for a chance at 70. I have not seen any MS-70 grades given for a long time though... I wonder if the few that exist are flukes.

I've always wondered how the hologram placement factors into the final score, or if they focus primarily on the metal condition and superficial wear.
Most of the laser-edged holograms are cut off-center or applied at a slight offset/skew on the coin itself (noting the 4 raised notches meant to align it)

Any interest?

I've always seen the Casascius coins as a sort of hedge against the greater bitcoin market.

As BTC/fiat rises, it causes the Casascius coin to lose BTC value but still grow in fiat value.
And as BTC/fiat falls, the Casascius coin grows in BTC value while softening the effect on it's fiat value.

Agreed, the best time to sell physicals is when the btc/usd price is low, you get more Btc premium. But try peeling it when BTC is at $50k, it's a hard decision. I just buy them and keep them for my kids. Literally it's Bitcoin I'll probably never sell. I might be interested, will hit you back in a couple days if still available.

Thats my thought too - but i have more than one coin from the gilt series (they are unbelievably gorgeous) and could benefit from having more liquidity. having an entire bitcoin sealed like this is a big-fish collectible now, rather than something every bitcoiner wanted to have back in 2015.

Hence, finding the right buyer - this is an excellent candidate to get graded!

I believe you should get your 1BTC silver graded. It genuinely would help with your sale in my opinion. Graded and slabbed coins typically seem to sell quicker from what I've noticed. Just something I happen to notice. I could be off but having it graded never hurts for selling purposes. Sure if the grade comes in low that hurts(however from the naked eye here your coin looks to be in excellent condition but that's just my guess as well) but it definitely allows for a potential buyer to know exactly what he/she is getting. As for the Bar it's a cool item but I don't know enough about them to even know if you can even grade those. That would be a question for a much more seasoned member here such as anonymousminer just for example. He does work for ICG and I've met him personally. He's a great guy! Good luck my friend!

iBHK8

I've always planned to get a few of my coins graded when the vlaue made it worthwhile, but now that that time has come, it raises an entirely new difficulty in transporting/trusting several bitcoins in value to a courier or ANACS. Unfortunately, Canada does not have any services that are as reliable or use such nice slabs as ANACS

Looking for some redeemed Cas coins.  Preferably with holo and key, but not necessary.  Please PM with images, prices and location.

Thanks,
J

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4633761.0

I would consider redeeming it and shipping the coin+hologram, peeled in the least damaging way possible (or to a style of your preference) and handled with gloves to protect the coin's condition.
but would have to be a pretty good premium.

Also have a redeemed 5BTC token that has no hologram. it is handled but in decent condition, depending what you expect to pay i can try to dig it up and take a photo
