201  Economy / Speculation / Re: The only reason Bitcoin is more valuable then other altcoins on: August 13, 2014, 01:09:54 AM
The only reason Bitcoin is more valuable then other altcoins is first mover advantage. It's the truth if you compare bitcoin to a lot of alt coins on the technical side Bitcoin is lacking heavily. If the Protocol was updated to do something more like a lot of altcoins do I feel this is what would truly make the Bitcoin price sky rocket.

Like what does this even mean? ^^   what does it lack ? All the other alt coins are basically scams.

If that's the case then why do you have this in your signature?: BTCinstant.com - BUY GiftCards with AltCoins!

Lol so much irony.

Thank you!

We are particularly interested in what kind of benefits the community would like to see, and how they would be used.
We are thinking of putting a value to the coin to a percentile value of a purchase at one of our vendors.

There are so many coins out there, we don't want to jump into this being exactly the same as everyone else, with no purpose.

How good would it be if you could use your coin for discounts on purchases?
What else would you like to use coin for, and how?

Would your coin be a remodeled version/a clone of the bitcoin code or are you creating unique code for your coin?

Can we get some sort of Update on what's going on with the new forum?

Wangbus made this statement in June.
We are shooting for Alpha in August. Thanks for your patience.

It's already halfway through august so what's going on?
206  Other / Archival / Re: delete on: August 12, 2014, 11:54:53 PM
An activity requirment for ann threads and to post or even limiting posts would make more sense then having a moderator. The alt section has a lot of competition between its users and making someone from the userbase a mod would cause catastrophic damage.

1) Explain what you mean by competition between users?

2) All mods are from the user base.

~BCX~

1) people favoring different coins and trying to get coins their invested in to succeed.

2) not necessarily the alt section.

Sorry mate but you and operation shitcoins plans have once again been foiled by Cryptopaths the Crypto Knight.

Vast numbers of people hate you dude and where there's smoke there's fire. I am not really into altcoins but I would rather see MnW come back as a mod. Admit it, you just want to fuck over a bunch of people in the altcoin section as some sick form of entertainment. Here's the bad part about that idea: altcoin users exchange their mined shitcoins into Bitcoin and join the Bitcoin economy. Your bullshit is causing people to hate all crypto currencies including Bitcoin.

Vast numbers of people hate me, so what?

I'm not looking to fuck over anyone. For someone that has been around as long as you have (almost two years according to your profile) I am amazed at how little you know about the forum moderation. The lower level mods cannot ban people and it is something I do not care about anyway. I just want to clean up the place by rearranging threads and killing spam.

There are no mods in the alt section and no one wants to do it. Threads that are reported in Alts are ignored. It is possible to not like someone or hate a specific coin and be fair. Most of the Global Mods here including Saltyspitoon have made their hatred of the ALt Section well known, but have been more than fair in moderation. I do believe that Badbear, Raoul Duke and Maged would select all and click delete on the whole forum if Theymos would allow it, but they are fair nonetheless.

Really I think I must have frightened you a little too hard in the past if you think I can single handedly make masses of people hate crypto and Bitcoin in general.

I don't really remember you, were you ever a coin dev?

~BCX~

No, I was never a coin dev. We talked a few times back in 2011. I was known as CornedBeefHash back then. I deleted my account and started over in 2012.

I don't get why you would want to be a mod. You aren't really known for your humanitarian efforts. The only thing you've ever volunteered to do is nuke a coin out of existence so why change now. Mods really do real work for little reward. What's your angle?

That's a good point QuestionAuthority, basically BitcoinExpress along with his teamates over at Operation Shitcoin Cleanout want to seize control in the alt coin section to destroy coins and promote coins that they favour. With BitcoinExpress becoming a mod this would give them an unfair advantage and the ability to greatly manipulate the market. That's his angle.

@BitcoinExpress:  Sorry mate but you and operation shitcoins plans have once again been foiled by Cryptopaths the Crypto Knight.
207  Economy / Speculation / Re: The only reason Bitcoin is more valuable then other altcoins on: August 12, 2014, 10:24:31 PM

And that was all made possible because bitcoin had first mover advantage, use your head man.

It's called innovation and sooner or later an altcoin is going to make it big on innovation because bitcoin is to scared to. Some altcoins have already seen very good success, Bitcoin could increase it's worth past the point that it's already at if it just accepted this.

after 3 years of litecoin and 2 years of lots of altcoins, all i see is pump and dump coins that last 3-6 months, and a bunch of dice games.

I think your purposefully turning a blind eye to the innovation happening with altcoins.
208  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Altcoin Council - [Poll] Who do you want on the council? on: August 12, 2014, 10:23:19 PM
$200m for 500 listed coins is a shocking number. I thought the altcoin market is bigger than that. So many coins and so little market share means the trade is very risky.

It's not just 500 coins it's way more. 500 listed coins and thousands of unlisted coins fall under that $200 million market cap.
209  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Altcoin Council - [Poll] Who do you want on the council? on: August 12, 2014, 10:06:53 PM
What are your thoughts on the Altcoin council?
210  Economy / Speculation / Re: The only reason Bitcoin is more valuable then other altcoins on: August 12, 2014, 09:55:26 PM
OP thinks bitcoin is only big because its first. ha ha ha ha ha

what a narrow minded idea.

the truth is that bitcoin is more successful because more then a few thousand people are being paid wages purely in bitcoin,
the truth is that bitcoin is more successful because more then a 100,000 merchants accepting bitcoin
the truth is that bitcoin is more successful because more then 50 separate ways to get bitcoin<->FIAT

its called infrastructure, now name me one altcoin that has this usefulness!!

211  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Altcoin Council - [Poll] Who do you want on the council? on: August 12, 2014, 09:50:30 PM
A lot has been going on in the altcoin community from scams to conspiracies and coin saturation. Recently a member on this forum made an attempt to become the only mod of the altcoin forum, having a mod here would result in some coins getting the upperhand an unfiar bias and judgment. I think having an altcoin Council is a far better idea and will be more beneficial to the altcoin community.

The Cryptocurrency market currently has a marketcap of about $7.9 billion and $7.47 billion of that market cap belongs to Bitcoin. That leaves just about $400 million marketcap between all the other currencies if you factor in the fact that litecoin is almost half of that $400 million, you leave a valuation of only $200 for 500 listed coins and thousands of unlisted.

For example Namecoin had a huge innovation on its hands with its integrated domain system that could lead to the web becoming decentralized. Imagine if bitcoin integrated something like that we wouldn't just see money 2.0 but we would see the internet 2.0 with the internet truly becoming decentralized and we would see massive growth in market cap. However it seems many people in the Bitcoin community look down on any new innovation and don't want to see the protocol progress.

Because of this stiffeling of innovative prevalent in the Bitcoin community along with its market cap already at about $8billion it is hard to see gains of %10000+ that used to be prevalent. That us were alt coins come in, a lot of altcoins give newcomers a chance to make a lot of money in this emerging market similar to the early adopters of Bitcoin.

The Altcoin Council will promote the altcoin scene and show the world that Bitcoin isn't the only cryptocurrency. We will fund add campaigns, insight new innovation and grow the community along with many more things that will take alt coins far.

So vote on who you think should be on this council, I will add some names to the list and I will take your suggestions for anyone else I should add to the list. Everyone has the ability to change their vote so if you see a new person added that you think should be on the council you can change your vote to vote for them.

I haven't seen any altcoins with any improvements yet.  Perhaps one came along while I wasn't paying attention.  Would you mind explaining which "improvement" you were thinking of?

Feel free to disclose the details of who did what here. In that case this thread might also act as good warning read for new people...  Wink

How about Realsolid? Is he clear??

He apparently sold 5k mcxfees a couple days ago, take from that what you will. But I have to say a lot of the scam accusations directed at realsolid usually come from people with questionable motives, like bitcoinexpress and spoetnik. I am not taking a stance on if I think realsolid is a scammer or not.

And on the subject at hand yes I do believe another alt will surpass 1 billion market cap.

I'm more and more starting to think your attempt to become a mod is a ploy by Operation Shitcoin Cleanout to gain control of the alt-coin forum section.
218  Other / Meta / Re: New Section Suggestion - Groups on: August 12, 2014, 05:04:44 AM
On forums I have been on there is usually a section titled groups. In the groups section is were members and staff/admin can create groups that they would like. For example someone that likes to mine would create a miner guild/group and that group would be about mining. Someone else could create a guild/group for development, graphics, media etc. you get the point.

I don't get the point? We have all these subforums already, so what would be the difference between them? Seems unnecessary to me.

The OP has just recently indicated a desire to found a "Bitcoin High Rollers Club" on this thread. According to him/her, this "club" would converse amongst themselves of ways to further increase their Bitcoin holdings. However, the prevailing sentiment among those who have read that thread is that the OP is looking for a way to identify high value targets to scam. It really does seem dubious when you consider the idea and the OP's post history. This suggested feature is just the OP's way of trying to legitimize his/her already ridiculed ideas. Don't buy into it -- it has no merit.

You do realize you can make more then one type of group right? A group can be made to fulfill a role that someone sees fit, so stop making unfounded accusations.

Why is Sirius only ranked as a staff member when he's co creator of the forum? It's not like he disapeared like satoshi either because his last login day is july 30th 2014 and he/she's active. Shouldn't he at least have administrator privileges?
