202  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: sending bank statement for verification on: May 11, 2023, 07:56:34 PM
Don't know why they'd need a bank statement. Are you sending bitcoin from or to a bank?

In a situation where a client sends cryptocurrency to a casino and withdraws only cryptocurrency back to a wallet, there's no need to ask for a bank statement. Furthermore, a person using crypto may not even have a bank account. In many countries people are unbanked. They receive cash from their employer and use it to pay their bills and buy food, but they can have a phone with a crypto wallet that can be used to gamble.

I'd tell the casino that I demand my money back and will provide the normal KYC documents like a selfie with an ID, but will not give them any bank statements because I don't own a bank account. Do that and see what they come up with Cheesy
203  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 11, 2023, 07:42:39 PM
If US goverment sell BTC who buy it?, the people? if this yes, so the BTCs returns to the communitty and with that the "power" so.... if the government its really against the BTC its not better for them to confiscate them and never sell? and dont show you like another player in the game?

That tweet is fear mongering at its finest. He assumes that if gov sold x BTC and owns 10x BTC, it's going to sell that 10x and it's going to sell it all at once. We don't know if, when and how much of it is going to be sold, but he's telling everyone that it's going to lead to 10k. He's spreading FUD probably as he's shorting bitcoin with leverage.

The governments can buy as much BTC as they want because they can print money but it's better for PR not to do so and instead sell bitcoin. They used to do it on auctions but during the banking crisis it's better to put pressure on BTC so it doesn't look as tempting.

just a thought:
there is a possibility that the next halving bullrun arrives later than usual.  almost everyone seems to expect a normally scheduled bullrun... and that alone should actually be enough of a reason for it not to happen.  On top of that we might face some medium-term price pressure from the US Gov. sitting on 200k BTC, and from some of the 140k Gox coins...

The 2021 bull market was expected after the halving and it did arrive. Halving was in May and in November we were already at a new ATH.

Are you saying that people weren't expecting a pump in 2020 after halving?
204  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would you still do business with them? on: May 10, 2023, 10:11:30 PM
It's important to stay informed: Bittrex has had separate US and Global exchange platforms for over two years now. It's the US exchange that is claiming bankruptcy, not the Global exchange. Many believe that the US government's unfavorable stance towards cryptocurrency may hinder its potential for growth, causing the country to miss out on the tax revenue and other benefits the industry could offer in the future. If this continues, there's a possibility that the US may try to retaliate when they see other countries profiting from the cryptocurrency space.

This is the important part!

OP is talking like bittrex, one of the biggest exchanges is going bankrupt but it's not. Bittrex US was having problems for months and the Biden administration and the SEC was slowly suffocating it.
The result of this war will be the exodus of all but the most centralized and obedient exchanges from the US and US citizens will have to trade using exchanges in other countries.

Good thing is that there are 2 presidential candidates who like bitcoin and I doubt people are going to vote for senile Biden once again, so chances are in a few years the president will be a bitcoiner.
205  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Ordinals on the edge of getting canceled on: May 10, 2023, 10:00:47 PM
I vote that we should stop the ordinals. Id even vote to move their rotten, useless transactions onto a side chain if that was possible, but I don't see how that could be done.

the ordinal should be stopped immediately, there is no reason to support its development, it will only destroy the bitcoin ecosystem, inserting files every sats is the idea of people who fail to find buyers in their trash NFT.

Bullshit, it's not going to destroy anything.
There's a number of scared people who are now spreading FUD about how bitcoin network is proven to be weak and damaged and ordinals are a proof of it. These people are playing into the hands of CSW who was saying that for years and trying to shove SV down our throats. Are you a part of his team?

Devs enabled taproot and are now backtracking, thinking if it maybe was a bad idea and should be censored. So what is it? Do they know what the changes they apply to bitcoin actually do or not?
206  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you remember this episode of Simpsons? on: May 01, 2023, 08:41:15 PM
Just a mockery to USD I guess and that Bitcoin infinite price was just a joke and we won't see this in our lifetime. Maybe there's something true on that episode but it's not meant for Bitcoin, maybe it was meant for GME, FOX, or USD. We understand The Simpsons writers predict some interesting futuristic events but this one is likely not so gonna happen thing for Bitcoin, at least in our lifetime.

They were in fact mocking USD because it has infinite supply, as the printer can be run indefinitely, as long as there's demand to keep the price of the dollar above 0.
If USD supply can grow every year and bitcoin's supply is limited to 21m, BTC/USD pair can be pumped into infinity.

You'll see it next year when the FED pivots and starts printing again. USD will once again dive in value as it's done many times in the last 50 years and bitcoin and everything else will go up and they will once again say it's a real estate bubble, bitcoin bubble, stock bubble - the everything bubble just not the USD.
207  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 21, 2023, 08:18:49 PM
Been shoveling all day, pony stable groundwork.

Here's a source regarding my previous post, btw:

EU lawmakers approve world’s first comprehensive framework for crypto regulation

Is that good or bad in your opinion?

I'm one of the people who think government should keep its dirty hands out of private property, which bitcoin is. The way I see it all regulation is bad.
The EU wants more KYC and more paid licenses, that's what it's all about.
Next step - they'll reach into pockets of private users and demand them to declare their bitcoin wallets so they can assign each address to a name.
208  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: is it necessary to mix Bitcoin that you bought from an exchange? on: April 19, 2023, 08:01:16 PM
I can give you some examples of when you'd want to mix your coins.

Gambling is illegal in some countries. If you won some cryptocurrency at a casino and want to sell it on a centralized exchange, and it's illegal to gamble in your country, you might want to mix it first.

There can be also a situation where you earn money from signature campaigns and don't want your real name to be linked to your forum account by the exchange employees, or the government that can demand the exchange to provide your registered name and bitcoin address.
209  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Advise to a friend on: April 19, 2023, 01:50:45 PM
The problem is, someone has convinced him to buy altcoins before now, I think in late 2021 or thereabout. He bought three different altcoins for about $500 and now two out of the three coins he bought are worthless. one is worth about $0.045.

Haha, let me guess, he bought Terra Luna  Grin Your friend should cut ties with that person who convinced him to buy scam coins.
Quote
He buys into the idea but I'm still having doubts. I don't want to look like a fraud when things don't work out.
Don't work out? In what way? If holding is not an issue and he can hold for about 2 years, there's no way the price won't be higher than 30000.
Bitcoin is one of the best investments right now. It can't be stopped, only delayed. If you can forget about it for a few years you'll always come out on top.

I mean, I can speculate about the market all I want, but I can't be sure what tomorrow brings.
I thought he doesn't care about "tomorrow".
210  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is $30 dollars worth starting bitcoin? on: April 19, 2023, 01:40:32 PM
Do the math OP. 2,5x from here is already a new all time high. How much will we go up in this cycle, by 2025? 3x? 4x? 4x would be 120 000 dollars, so I don't think we're going far beyond that. Some people predict 150, some 200, but even at 150 you're 5x up so your 30 dollars is going to be wort 150. Is 150 a satisfying profit for you? Will this change your life in any way?

You can of course buy bitcoin with $30, just as you can buy it with $10, but that isn't going to make a difference. You'll wait all this time to buy yourself a pair of shoes.
211  Economy / Speculation / Re: Correction from $30K: Reason to worry? on: April 19, 2023, 01:14:38 PM
from seeing this happening multiple times now? just today it moved 29-30k and 30k-29k ? i believe that this is a reason for not to be bother and just expect this
to come because of the correction from those who are taking their profit or recovering from their losses.
and also those who wanted to make this down for some way to manipulate.

It's the same money being circulated around. I bet the same people who bought it at 29000 yesterday dumped it again today back to 29. They're doing it to see if they can get people to rally or dump following their move and possibly flush some leveraged traders out. Each attack on the support or resistance weakens it and people who are doing it know about it. They want to see which one breaks first because staying at 30 000 is boring. They aren't making any money.

When you see something like that just wait, don't trade until either the resistance or the support fails to hold. Fed meeting is already priced in. They will not cut until Autumn, but it doesn't change anything. Last time they hiked bitcoin went up, so we aren't bound by FED rates just that if they cut we'll have a stronger rally.
212  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could this be the reason why Satoshi never made himself known to the public? on: April 19, 2023, 12:52:14 PM
Chatgpt can't answer us, it's just a man-made tool, the answer we get is just someone else's synthesized by the chatbot, so there's no guarantee what it says is true. I agree with what rikafip said, why don't you give your own opinion about Satoshi? You have to rely on the chatbot's answer. It is not divine and may give the exact answer we are looking for. I know it's useful to many people, but we shouldn't overuse Chatgpt. I don't even want to use it.

I dare to disagree. It managed to answer the question very well and cover most angles. I'm satisfied with its answer while being a bitcoiner, so a person who is new to this should be too.

The main reasons that come to mind is:
He didn't want to be attacked by the government if bitcoin ever threatens its monetary policies. As the creator, he would be the weak point of the system, the way Vitalik is for ETH.
How many times these people, like Buterin, Hoskinson, Garlinghouse were targeted, commented on, sued even? The lack of founder that can become the target is one of the biggest strengths of bitcoin.

Another reason is that at some point he might want to retire and that would put unneeded pressure on bitcoin, the way Lee weakened LTC when he abandoned the project and sold his coins.
213  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin in movies on: April 19, 2023, 12:40:33 PM
I feel there must be (much) more

And you're of course right.

Here you go, let us know how much of these you've seen.
https://www.imdb.com/search/keyword/?keywords=bitcoin

Mr.Robot is so gloomy and hopeless, I always felt down after watching it, which is why I couldn't make it past the first two seasons.
214  Economy / Speculation / Re: I missed the bottom or i have time to invest on: April 18, 2023, 04:34:59 PM
At this point I think you've missed the bottom if you still haven't bought bitcoin. Bitcoin would have to crash by 50% for you to get a chance to buy low but from my experience if that ever happens people will be to scared to buy.

Of course there's always a small chance for an extreme event to happen like when covid pandemics broke out and all stocks and bitcoin crashed, but even if that flash crash happens will you have the money on exchanges and buy orders set? If you don't have these buys ready and waiting and don't have time to check prices every hour, just buy now. It's better to have bitcoin than not have it.
215  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Bitcoin has no use case" on: April 18, 2023, 04:11:47 PM
It's a pathetic attempt from haters to attack bitcoin's use case, because if I mine it, trade it, use it to buy gift cards, lend money to my friends in bitcoin, without the government knowing about it, it's already a number of use cases.

Why can't they let it be, but have to constantly look for angles of attack? How sad and empty a person has to be to make it hard for others to make money instead of focusing on making money for themselves?

Having a vehicle that allows us to transfer wealth out of a war zone like Ukraine is a great use case.

When you have a large amount of money and you lend it to someone and that person pays you back it looks like you have large moves on your account and the bank can ask who and why were you sending the money and what's the source of your income. Nobody is going to ask for that when you send bitcoin.
216  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What are hidden signs to look for when you're dealing with a Fraudster / Scammer on: April 18, 2023, 03:43:09 PM
If he insisting to talk about your money and keep askinh question about it then youll definitely dealing with scammer and fraudsters. Usually they are lurking on telegram and social media like facebook. They will impersonate legit users with decent social profile and will started to lure you to a topic that will definitely caught you off guard.  Always much better to deal with the highly reputable or known people with a lots of feedback.

Also watch out for people who don't know your full name or address, but they act like they do, like they're from bank's support or the government. This is a very common phishing scam where they contact you about your account in their bank and they want more information like your account number, user number, they make mistakes on purpose waiting for you to correct them.
If your name is john, they'll ask if they're speaking with Jim or someone from his family and you'll say that your name is not Jim but John - it's already going good for them.

I never talk to people who call me with an offer or mail me stuff. It always leads to a scam. If someone pretends to be the police it's the same. The police will never call you like that, they'll either send you traditional mail or come in person.
217  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Don't invest money you can't afford to lose out of greed. on: April 18, 2023, 03:34:31 PM
I don't like this saying "invest what you can afford to lose" because it's being abused and carelessly thrown around. Invest what you can forget about for years and what you won't miss.

I have some money saved up and I wouldn't say that I can at this point lose even 1k USD, allthough my bitcoin investment is 100 times bigger.

Bitcoin is going to be worth more than it is now one day. It's possible you'll have to wait 2 years for it to happen and endure countless crashes but eventually you will profit from holding it just as you will profit from holding gold or land. It's not a casino where you can lose money in an instant.
218  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is Forex trades is a part of Crypto Trade? on: April 17, 2023, 07:44:12 PM
I used to always see these groups as one big trade. Stocks are stocks, currencies are currencies, commodities are commodities and crypto is crypto, although that last one seems to be decoupling in the last cycle.

If you haven't noticed, bitcoin is decoupling from other cryptocurrencies and from stocks. It could be seen even in the last few days where ETH kept pumping when BTC stayed still. If more time passes and cryptocurrencies are still with us we'll see each of the big ones develop in their own separate assets because you can't really put a centralized and a decentralized cryptocurrency into the same basket. They are different, like oil and coal.
219  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Always hide your forum email address after registration. on: April 17, 2023, 07:31:00 PM
What is the point of hiding your email for registration here, if your email Stable080@gmail.com can be found in bounty spreadsheets. I am 99% sure you have used that email to register here Cheesy
It is your guess that can be correct or inaccurate.

If a person is seriously about security and privacy, he will use a specific email for important registration and account. Obviously, email for bounty or unimportant things should be a different email. I agree that most of newbies will use same email for many different things both important and unimportant.

Some email providers allow you to enable 2fa which makes it very hard to compromise the address. I've never had any of my accounts with 2fa broken into. I usually have a password that consists of letters, numbers and signs and often use a burner email address for public forums, giveaways, product registration and similar things.

Don't worry about your email being visible people. Rather have a good and secure password, the longer, the better, enable 2fa and don't mix forum emails with the ones used for billing, taxes, or any government stuff. Keep crypto and personal information separate!
220  Economy / Speculation / Re: Good time to invest in BTC? on: April 17, 2023, 07:17:25 PM
Today the price dropped again below $30k, when the price is in the $30k area I often hear people will buy more when the price drops below $30k, if we don't buy now then we will be left behind and there is no chance to buy again cheap.

That's how human brain works. We're always too greedy or too fearful and the average price is somewhere in the middle.

For those who have problems choosing the right time to buy the best way is to DCA. I've seen articles where people debunk DCA as a worse type of investing because you average the entry point and by doing it make the resulting profit more average as well. A buyer who just does it at a price they see as "low" will get more profit in the end, provided that they're able to control themselves and hold if it flash crashes.

I'd say it's a good time to invest. We're either in the end of the bear market or the beginning of a bull market. Either way, the worst is behind us.
If we count the start of the bear market from November 2021 we've been in a bear market for the last 18 months. If we were in the 2018-19 bear market that would put us somewhere in June 2019.
