41  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin ETFs and the 401(k) Dilemma on: November 01, 2023, 05:29:08 PM
It probably depends on how much bitcoin you have right now and what's your goal.

You say you do DCA, so how much is all your bitcoin savings vs your fiat? If you get 100 thousand from your plan and you have maybe 20 invested in bitcoin It could be a good idea to increase the amount of bitcoin you have at the expense of your fiat.

When you get the money, what are your other investment options? Buy a property? Put it in the bank? Buy gold?
42  Economy / Speculation / Re: 2023 end game sentiment check on: October 31, 2023, 10:29:54 PM
~
Bitcoin will reach as high as $50,000 by the end of the year.
This might be higher depending on what will be the verdict of SEC with regards to the Blackrock fling for a Spot Bitcoin ETF .

If it will not get accepted this year, I guess the safest one would be at around the $40,000, but if out of nowhere it gets accepted, my prediction of $50,000 might be too low. On the other hand, there might be a chance that it will go below $30,000 again, but the chances are low unless there will be some bad news happening that will affect the market.

Base on history, Bitcoin's price tend to go up during the final months of the year, so there's a chance that it might happen again.

I like your bullish prediction. 40 thousand even if the ETF is not approved? I doubt that we'll do that good this year.

The way I see this market we're going to bounce around between 30 and 35 and if the ETF is approved we'll push higher. Even if it doesn't we could start a new rally in January bit I just don't see us making 40 before the end of the year without major news.

It's possible US stock market will crash in the coming months and we'll see how bitcoin reacts. It used to react to these big stock selloffs. In 2020 stocks crashed and bitcoin followed. I hope we can finally break this trend and be independent.
43  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should I, we, run a bitcoin node? on: October 31, 2023, 10:18:24 PM
There are node kits available if you want to try with ease. Basically plug and play stuff that guide you step by step through the process.

A node can be an interesting thing to do when you don't have enough money to mine bitcoin but want to be able to say that you actively support the network.

A PI node with a small LCD screen is an interesting decoration and a conversation starter when someone visits you.

There are no direct financial advantages! A slight difference to no advantage at all, which weirdly enough are listed on that article you linked.
Also, cooling your house from running a node? Common!  Roll Eyes

There's some money involved if you run a lightning node, but this requires owning bitcoin, so I doubt that's what OP is asking about and what he's able to do at the moment.
44  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Between Profit And Conscience on: October 31, 2023, 09:13:34 PM
Gambling is legal.
The lotto agent offers fair money and wants to run a legit business.
If he doesn't take agent's money he'll pay someone else and open it anyway.
It's not going to be the only gambling spot in town, so people who are addicted gamble anyway. By allowing him to open it you don't make more addicts. Maybe you'll make it more convenient for the addits to gamble because they won't have to go so far, but that's all.

I'd take the money, at least until his financial situation improves.
Then he can decide if he'll renew the lease. It's not permanent after all.
45  Economy / Economics / Re: No petrol/diesel car sales by 2035/ Reality or dream? on: October 31, 2023, 09:00:46 PM
That sounds expensive. If he had a regular and wanted to run same test, it would cost him around 1 EUR for a 1.5l bottle of water, and the cost of fuel that will fit it.

Instead of having EV only in 2035, it would be better to switch public transport to electric busses. As they operate in city limits, charging or battery issues wont be such a trouble. Everyone will win from that. Manufacturers, as they will have a long lasting contracts with cities. Cities that will be more emission clear.

This was done only for the test and the guy was a journalist, but it can happen to a normal user. I don't read about electric cars or cars in general enough to come across more of these stories.

You're right. Busses drive around all day and generate enormous amounts of fumes when compared to a car because they drive very inefficiently. They start driving, gain speed, brake, come to a stop and repeat the whole thing. All that with high mass and bad aerodynamic efficiency.

The only thing that makes me angry about electric cars is that they want to tax all of us who don't have enough money to buy one so that we stop driving at all. In other words, you're rich, you buy electric car and drive like you used to. You're poor, we're going to make you pay for your old car so much that you'll either have to sell it and ride a scooter or something or you'll have to take a loan to get an electric car.
46  Economy / Economics / Re: No petrol/diesel car sales by 2035/ Reality or dream? on: October 30, 2023, 11:30:39 PM
What about the case when you ran out of energy and closest charging station is kilometers away? With regular fuel, you can just walk to gas station, get canister and return. In case there are no cars the are passing by. With EV, you cant just get a small battery at charging station. I agree that this case is more like an exception. But there are cases when charge meter gets a bug and shows you incorrect info. With cars that runs on fuel it is a bit easier. Even if you ran out of fuel, you can still use your AC battery to heat the car (in case you travel not alone), leave it with warning lights and walk to fuel station. With EV, once the battery is empty, the car is just a piece of aluminum, plastic and fabric.

I've read about such case when a guy was testing a Tesla and wanted to see if it really shows the real range. He wanted to push it to the limit.

I don't remember all the numbers and the article was from at least a year ago but he wanted to travel from one town to another and planned the rout a day before. The car showed him that he can go from point  a to point b at full charge with some margin. There was a charging station at point b.
When he was maybe 20km from that spot the car started showing that he won't make it and instead of +10km left it corrected to something like -2 so he thought that maybe the car is wrong and he can make it. After all this was a trip of more than 200km and the car was showing that it will lack 1% charge to make it.

Long story short, he didn't make it and the car shut down in the middle of the street with no charging station nearby, so he went to a hardware store and bought the cheapest gasoline power generator and charged it a bit to make that 2 additional kilometers to his destination.
47  Economy / Economics / Re: Does Using a Credit Card Demonstrate Financial Literacy? on: October 30, 2023, 11:18:37 PM
IMO it's the opposite. Many people in the US with primary education own and use a credit card. At the same time many well educated people use cash on purpose to show defiance.

Politicians want us to use digital centralized money and limit cash payments, so it's important to keep using cash as much as we can and show sellers that a lot of their income comes in this form.

I primarily use cash and don't even own a credit card.
48  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The common saying Health is wealth on: October 29, 2023, 09:05:01 PM
In first world countries, health care isn't a problem at all and that is why it is an easy obligation for them to have it concerned. While in developing countries, they have problems with the progress of their health care system.

In this so called first world we are also experiencing healthcare problems.
The problems are that we all pay our healthcare tax, but there's not enough doctors who want to work in government facilities, because pay is too low when they compare it to private facilities.
As a result when you want to get checked by a specialist you have to wait for 2 months while in a private facility you'll have everything done in a week or two but that will cost you.

People face a choice. Wait for months or pay and to pay they have to work overtime because they'll pay for healthcare anyway even if they choose private care, which means they pay double.
49  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Have we seen the lowest low of this bear market? on: October 29, 2023, 08:52:12 PM
I personally believe that this major event will be world war III, which is slowly unfolding right now. And subsequently the collapse of the current monetary system.

I don't see a WW3 brewing. Do you think that Russia would be stupid enough to attack NATO? There would be no winners of such war with so many nuclear submarines around the world.
We've reached a situation where no country will risk a global nuclear war. The only ones stupid enough to do it would be jihadists, which is why the West is limiting their access to nukes.

Also keep in mind that banks and governments want to launch their CBDC's and bitcoin is a threat to it.

People don't want CBDC. If they're forced to abandon fiat money and use CBDC they will turn to bitcoin and if all fails they'll turn against the government.

Quote
I am very convinced all of these things but I have no idea how big of an impact they will have on the market value of BTC, in the short run and in the long run.

If there really is another world war you'll have more things to worry about than bitcoin, like how to get clean water and protect yourself from radiation.
50  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Michael Saylor talks about Bitcoin, and you WILL be disappointed on: October 26, 2023, 07:42:57 PM
Not disappointed.

Everyone will always have their own opinions, but at the end of the day, money talks. People and companies will see Bitcoin price rising like crazy and they will run like sheep to catch the wave before it ends, just like they did in 2021. Although one thing that remains constant (for now) is Microstrategy DCAing bitcoin purchases.

@bbc.reporter, I don't recognize those two people. Who are they?

These are pictures of younger Michael with women. You can google him and see all of them because there's a lot more than this.

I have nothing against him and I see no reason not to call him a friend of bitcoin. As you said, money talks and his money is telling a whole story. It's completely opposite to many people who praise cryptocurrencies and only see the dollars in it, like Kevin O'Leary, or McAfee.

At least Saylor isn't bullshitting us.
51  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Surpasses Tesla, Ranks 11th Globally on: October 26, 2023, 07:30:47 PM
This shows how small bitcoin still is.

How can a global decentralized money and a store of value compared to digital gold be as small as an electric car company and get an edge over it only because of the recent pump?
I'm sure we are very early here.

I don't like Tesla and I think their products are popular only because there's a global conspiracy to scare people away from using normal cars through taxation and limiting their access to certain areas.
It's only a matter of time before other engines like those that run on hydrogen surpass it and then Tesla will either change or end up like Nokia.
52  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: UK passes bill to enable authorities to seize Bitcoin used for crime on: October 26, 2023, 07:06:13 PM
Yes, taking your belongings without conviction is stealing.

Seizing is stealing but in a legal way.

It's nothing but a wordplay used by the authorities to distinguish between the same action done by you and a lawman.

If I'm not wrong then with the new bill they can take legal action against anyone who holds Bitcoin and they can easily make out the fake evidence that the Bitcoin were used in illegal activities and can seize those Bitcoin from the holders without any question.

Even worse.

They can take your bitcoin claiming that it comes from a crime. You will defend yourself but it can take years in which time they'll be holding your bitcoin.
You can win it back or not but you're still going to lose money on lawyers. Money that you don't have because they seized it.
53  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin may not hit $24,750 again in 2023 - I'm bullish till 2024 on: October 25, 2023, 09:54:50 PM
Quote
and I don't believe we would see the coin hitting $24,750 anymore in 2023.

Nothing is sure and certain in the world of Bitcoin/crypto. I wouldn't bet on your prediction. It is completely possible for the BTC price to hit 24K by the end of 2023. First of all, I'm not sure what caused the current price pump to 34K. Is it a bunch of crypto whales buying BTC aggressively or some very bullish news about Bitcoin? I don't see anything new in terms of bullish news about Bitcoin. I don't think that the current price pump will be steady. It's most likely a short term price bubble, that will pop and the price might return back to 27K USD or even 25K. October has always been a special month for BTC. Last year,'s October, there was the FTX drama and a BTC price crash, while in October 2021, the Bitcoin price hit levels above 54K USD, if I remember this correctly.

The pump is caused by the news and the approval ratings of the ETF. Many companies including Bloomberg made their predictions about the ETF and they are all positive, some even stating that it has 90% chance off being approved. That makes people buy bitcoin now.

At the same time there's some natural causes like the fact that bitcoin used to stay at around half of its all time high price for months before and after the halving.
in 2013 ATH was 1100 dollars and the price before the halving was sitting between 500 and 600
In 2020 ATH was 20000 dollars and the price before the halving was 10000 - 12000
Now ATH was 68000 and price before the halving came is above 30000 so we're right on track.
54  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will $BTC soar beyond 35K or dip below? 🚀📉 on: October 25, 2023, 09:42:02 PM
What's a dip?

Bitcoin is at 44 something right now, so is going to 33900 a dip? 33800?
What if it goes to 33000? Is that a dip?

I think we can get such a dip before going over 35000 but is it something to worry about? Of course not!
This whole thing is driven by the ETF news and if ETH gets approved you'll never see bitcoin at 35000 again.
55  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Just like visiting a cinema on: October 25, 2023, 09:23:13 PM
That's how I like to treat gambling.

I've always felt like it's healthy to think that you pay for the experience. When you send money to a casino you pay them for the chance to use the service and the money is lost. If you get lucky and get something back to end the experience with profit that's great but don't think it's going to happen every time.

I know it's just a way of explaining a loss to myself but it helps me cope with it and I've never had any problems with depression.
56  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Shame on haters for claiming that crypto is widely used in terrorist financing! on: October 25, 2023, 07:21:24 PM
Terrorists are almost certainly not using crypto for their day-to-day terror activities. It's too inconvenient when most people don't have an internet device (you think they're allowed to carry mobile phones with them? They can be tracked by intelligence agencies.) It is likely only the financing of terrorism part that may possibly be done in cryptocurrency payments to a power broker.

They have been using cash since the first terrorist cell was created and they will be using cash for as long as it exists. It's the best and easiest way to buy stuff without leaving a trace.

How many terrorists somewhere in Afghanistan or Syria have accounts on bitcoin exchanges? The only way to use bitcoin without being traced easy would be to get a bitcoin donation to their wallet and send that donation as payment for weapons but that still can be traced if their place gets bombed or attacked by soldiers and computers seized which means bad news for both the donator and the weapons dealer.

Someone who claims bitcoin is bad because terrorists use it is doing it to brainwash people just like Greenpeace was doing it in their smear campaign.
57  Economy / Economics / Re: how businesses swindle the minimum wage employee on: October 25, 2023, 07:07:12 PM
i say to him in those unpaid breaks does he have enough FREE time to exit the business and do some personal chores unrestricted. he says no, he has to be in the vicinity of the workplace because he will get penalised if late back from lunch and the 15min breaks are not enough time to go anywhere personally without guaranteed penalty

My friend worked for a software company and they had no scheduled breaks at all.

There was a card reader at the door of the floor he worked on and the only thing there was on that floor was the bathroom and a smoking room. If you wanted to take lunch break or go outside, even to the parking lot to take something from the car, you had to use the card and they'd count how long you were outside of your working area and that time would be subtracted from your paycheck, unless you stayed after hours.

It was a common thing for people working there to take a break and then stay an hour longer.
58  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ETF $IBTC REMOVED IN DTCC WEBSITE!! MANIPULATION COMING OUT? on: October 24, 2023, 09:56:41 PM
They took it out because it wasn't official yet but everyone was already buying and making the price too high for them despite them betting the price to drop.

That's probably the thing. They did not expect this listing to stir things up as much as it did.

In another thread there was a post showing the whole site went down for a while which means they were getting so much new traffic that it overloaded their servers.
Everybody wanted to check if the ETF is really listed so they took it off.

Whatever the problem was what matters is that they have it ready, so they're expecting this thing to go live at any moment.
59  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Blackrock ETF listed on the ticker index… perhaps it’s approved? on: October 24, 2023, 09:45:28 PM
It's not manipulation.
How much bitcoin can you buy? How much can newcomers buy right now? If someone hears about the acceptance of an ETF and buys some bitcoin it's not going to be a 100 thousand dollars of bitcoin.
It's more likely going to be 10 thousand or less.

What we're witnessing here is people investing hundreds of millions into bitcoin in one week.
A manipulation can only get you half way with some leveraged trades liquidated but then for it to keep going you need real money coming in. Big money!

It was reveal in this new thread that the ticker is not removed on the DTCC website.  Whatever the reason why it was removed,

You're saying it wasn't removed but was. Cheesy

60  Economy / Speculation / Re: Has anybody expected this? on: October 24, 2023, 07:32:15 PM
You should visit the wall observer thread OP, people there expected a pump for months.

Most people on this forum expected this which is why they were stacking bitcoin all throughout the bear market. They did not abandon bitcoin when it was sub 20 thousand dollars and they did not panic sell when bitcoin fell from 30 to 26 thousand a few weeks ago. That's what I call conviction.

I still own bitcoin that I had in 2021, so we can say that a rise and another bull market was expected Smiley
