Is this a laptop by any chance?
It sounds like your local copy of the blockchain has been corrupted somehow this manifests itself as an inability for the satoshi client to download new blocks. Synching the blockchain on a full node should only take 1-2 days on decent hardware. Makes sure to backup your wallet.dat ($800) is a lot of money. Then delete all files except wallet.dat and bitcoin.conf from your bitcoin directory. After this you will need to redownload the blockchain (it should only take 1-2 days max this time). If all this downloading is frustrating an online wallet like Blockchain's my wallet or a local thin client like electrum will allow you to spend them much quicker. All you need is to export your privkey and import it into the new client. If you go down the route of exporting and importing your private key into a new client just reply and asking about it and i can help with any problems.
Just remember to keep your wallet backed up as there is no way whatsoever to get your coins back if you dont keep your wallet secure.
on a half-decent system the first 180,000 (or whenever satoshi dice appeared) blocks will depend mostly on your bandwidth. the fastest way to download the whole blockchain is to modify your bitcoin.conf file, set listen to 0, max connections to 1, and put connect=5.9.24.81 (or some other node on a good connection) in it. that way you dont have to deal w/ it trying to DL blocks from someone in zimbabwe with 5kb/s upstream or somesuch.... or it trying to DL blocks from someone that disconnects (I think you have to wait like 3 minutes until it tries someone else)

Use a lightweight client like multibit or electrum, no blockchain to update. (or at least hope that the new bitcoin client arrives quickly, i am testing it and it download the chain MUCH MUCH faster)
This said...
1)This error is related to the blockchain, sometime the database corrupt and as others said, you need to redownload it, that's why they suggest deleting everything...
2)...but this does not mean deleting wallet.dat! It is where your bitcoins are! Seriously, if you delete your wallet there isn't a lot we can do. And deleting it is not needed to fix the problem
The blkindex.dat and wallet.dat files are in appdata/roaming/bitcoin
Oh and redownloading the whole blockchain with the current client takes days (with the new one takes like 6-9 hours, much less but still a lot)
i've had success occasionally by deleting the database directory and leaving everything else alone (when it gives me that warning) i'd say maybe 50/50

It seems like first shipment was only 60 units (?), so that alone wouldn't increase the difficulty to 4m. So this will likely be another month or two down the road.... either with Avalon's second shipment or whenever some other company ships. only name I recall is butterfly labs, just because they were supposed to ship like 3 or 4 months ago. not sure what the date is now

after doing a bit more research (i've essentially been ignoring the progress of ASICs since early December), it seems like the max the network would increase at least for the next month or so would be around 60 x ~65ghash as only 60 units were sent?
that wouldn't increase the difficulty to 4m by itself alone. so i guess it may be 2 or 3 months before i consider this. but it would be nice to know if anyone would be interested in something like bulk buying or selling for commission ~$5000 or so in hardware (by today's prices)

If I received one of these (first batch), I'd sell it in marketplace

well, it was resurrected by someone on jan 27th, so i just posted some screenshot i had from like a month ago
the truth is, those #'s on mining comparisons web page are all easily broken, heh

In the forthcoming weeks, it'll become unprofitable to continue mining with my GPUs, so I'll be wanting to get rid of all the stuff I've been using. I don't want to spend the time doing it myself, and I also don't want to just throw it all in the storage shed w/ the rest of my old computer parts.
So I'm exploring two options, 1) having someone sell the stuff for me on commission, 2) having someone buy all the stuff from me in bulk (it would ALL have to be bought) at some % of market rate (somewhere around 40-60, I haven't decided).
Is there anyone out there that would do either of the above? I got one response to my commission post already, but it may just be easier to sell in bulk. Obviously the details on all the equipment would be provided, which are "custom rigged", which have all original materials, etc...
treat it as a question of if it's something that you'd do, if you had all information required in regard to equipment condition
i'm also open to any other suggestions on how to move this stuff. i guess a pawn shop would be one

when ASIC comes out,
everyone mining with a graphics card is going to switch to litecoin, but will not be as optimistic on litecoin and will sell the litecoins as they come in. this will crash the litecoins and will present the best buying opportunity their ever was?
not I i'll be selling all my stuff and getting out entirely. and nogleg will be recommissioned for a different purpose!

oh.. yeah, it wouldn't have to be eBay, either....... as long as I could obtain proof of the amt collected, etc..

I can perhaps help you out with that. If you send me a list of what you have and be as specific as possible I can tell you what to expect and your final gains after ebay fees, paypal fees and so on you should expect and if in fact ebay is the best market.
I was thinking something along the lines of 50-50, or 60 (me)-40 if I have to pay the shipping cost (to you), so the 2nd would be more likely, I would think anyway... as it'd reduce the risk to the person working on commission. The price that would be used would be the price after the eBay fees are deducted. I would want stuff sold at a 'reasonable' price (ie, if 5830's are selling for an average of $75 on eBay and the lowest is $50, then I wouldn't want one of mine sold for $40 or $45). It's not something I'm doing right this moment... it'll depend on how fast Avalon gets their ASIC shipments out. At the current price of BTC ($19.50'ish), I'll keep my GPUs going until about 4m difficulty. But my guess would be anywhere from a week to possibly up to a month.

Is there anything like that out there?
i.e. if I sent someone 20 GPUs, half a dozen PSUs, half a dozen motherboards, and various other junk, someone sells it on eBay for me, and we work out a commission rate?
Are there companies that do that? Or would I have to contract an individual?
I'll be turning off all my mining equipment soon and I'm not too keen on wasting time selling it myself, but I also don't want to add it to my junk pile in the storage shed
********** edit:
it seems like this will be more than a week or two away. probably a month or two. though if you're interested, feel free to post.. i'll still want to sell all this stuff after enough ASICs hit the market. the value right now is around $5k.. well, maybe more like $10k (i guess I could take the old i3's, geforces, and what not out of storage)
i bet junk like boxed copies of darklands and battle tech: crescent hawk's inception even have some value.. jaja

getting out
i see interest in bitcoin as a whole falling drastically w/ introduction of specialized equipment for 'mining'
@ current price, i'll keep the GPUs running until 4m diff
oh, seeing as how jeff got his ASIC, I imagine that korean node that's been reporting blocks probably has one too

Let say that a country like Iran or Nk start using BTC to finance some of their activities or organization like "alqaida" ask ransom in BTC.
The US government killed way more people than Al Qaida and Iran and many people use USD... FYI: yeah man, i got really pissed about the whole cambodia thing. the khmer rouge were just misunderstood is all plus, al qaeda has this. it doesnt drop bombs, but it does kick ass

i considered it, probably for weeks, after wikileaks started accepting bitcoins

I just got a 27" monitor from Korea to the Midwest in 3 days if that puts anything into perspective.
But you are talking "western" country to "western" country .... customs between China and U.S. in particular is a tough business, I know because my in-laws ship simple over the counter medicine/vitamin supplements to their chinese friends and even those get thoroughly inspected very frequently, they'll get to chinese customs and then sit there for ages.... sad but true. I have had en ebay item shipped from a company in Hong Kong to the Eastern US in under 6 days.In fact,my prior job used to do plenty of mail orders from mainland China to the US and they usually took less than 6-7 business days. You have to pay a lot to get 6-7 business days from China. That guy with those ASICs probably couldnt afford it. Maybe he should have just ran them for a couple days first, to pay the extra shipping charge... I don't think anyone would be too upset
