2112  Economy / Speculation / Re: damn guys, where's our single-digit drop? on: August 30, 2012, 07:34:43 PM
Wow, that's a lot of 'what if's'.

What if our foreign policy of the past century is deeply flawed and has not served our national security interest?

What if we wake up one day and realize that the terrorist threat is the predictable consequence of our meddling in the affairs of others, and has nothing to do with us being free and prosperous?

What if propping up repressive regimes in the Middle East endangers both the United States and Israel?

What if occupying countries like Iraq and Afghanistan and bombing Pakistan is directly related to the hatred directed toward us?

What if someday it dawns on us that losing over 5,000 American military personnel in the Middle East since 9/11 is not a fair tradeoff with the loss of nearly 3,000 American citizens no matter how many Iraqi, Pakistanian, Afghan people are killed or displaced?

What if we finally decide that torture, even if called “enhanced interrogation technique”, is self-destructive and produces no useful information and that contracting it out to a third world nation is just as evil?

What if it is finally realized that war and military spending is always destructive to the economy?

What if all war-time spending is paid for through the deceitful and evil process of inflating and borrowing?

What if we finally see that war-time conditions always undermine personal liberty?

What if Conservatives who preach small government wake up and realize that our interventionist foreign policy provides the greatest incentive to expand the government?

What if Conservatives understood once again that their only logical position is to reject military intervention and managing an empire throughout the world?

What if the American people woke up and understood that the official reasons for going to war are almost always based on lies and promoted by war propaganda in order to serve special interests?

What if we as a nation came to realize that the quest for empire eventually destroys all great nations?

What if Obama has no intention of leaving Iraq?

What if a military draft is being planned for for the wars that would spread if our foreign policy is not changed?

What if the American people learned the truth, that our foreign policy has nothing to do with national security, that it never changes from one administration to the next?

What if war in preparation for war is a racket serving the special interests?

What if President Obama is completely wrong about Afghanistan and it turns out worse than Iraq and Vietnam put together?

What if Christianity actually teaches peace and not preventive wars of aggression?

What if diplomacy is found to be superior to bombs and bribes in protecting America?

What happens if my concerns are completely unfounded?

Nothing.

But what happens if my concerns are justified and ignored?

Nothing good.

what if Ron Paul Gets voted into office!?  Shocked

i think that as soon as it requires 15k btc to get to $11 there is going to be a big buy to $11

Is this a prelude to another one of you dodgy bets?  Grin

Pirate does not have a bunch of coins to sell, Pirates investors do not have their expected coins to cash out, looks like the price is not going down anytime soon. I expect it to stay pretty stable for a while, in a month or two it will slowly start moving upward like it did from 5 to 10 before Pirate threw a wrench in the works.

Yeah, big announcement in September and reward drop getting closer, up does seem more likely.

yes because the other 9.5 million coins have no bearing on the market.

what if the reward drop is more or less "priced in" already?
what if the big announcement, turn out to be kinda trivial to most people using bitcoin?
what if the bitinstant's debit card runs into a road block?

what are you going to do when your denial turns to fear?
2114  Economy / Speculation / Re: damn guys, where's our single-digit drop? on: August 30, 2012, 06:33:06 PM
I think we did it, the price is officially STABLE!  Wink

"EVERYTHING WILL FALL APART!"

lol
2116  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin BillPay? on: August 30, 2012, 06:11:52 PM
Bitinstant is working on exactly this.

Sweet. So I will be able to have a BitInstant credit card for day to day spending of my BTC, and a BitInstant bill pay for paying my bills.

And if I wanted to I could get my pay check in paper form and cash it at Walmart only to turn around and deposit that cash at Walmart to BitInstant turning it into Bitcoins.

Why use a bank anymore?

once i had my bank card cloned and about 700$ was charged on it

the bank saw right away what was happening called me, and asked me to fill out a paper to get my money back.

until bitcoin can offer the same kind of comfort... I'm still going to have a bank account

for all of you bears :

I have no idea why gambling is so popular around here. I guess it goes hand in hand with the success of ponzi schemes based on the amount of money thrown at each.

that reminds me i should go play some poker

I only gamble for the befit of the economy
2118  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can we consider bitcoin as a way of barter? on: August 30, 2012, 03:58:05 AM
All money is barter. Almost nobody realizes this, however.

Money is not separate from barter exchange, but rather, it is simply that thing which is most bartered for. The thing people barter most often with is de facto money. Seashells, cigarettes, gold coins, USD paper, bitcoins, etc... these are all things we barter for, and at any given time whichever among them is often used for exchange and trade is simply called money.

This is why it's ironic and somewhat hilarious when certain types of people say, "man, we need to get rid of money and just go back to barter!"

Your putting USD in the same category as gold & bitcoins... really?
2119  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can we consider bitcoin as a way of barter? on: August 30, 2012, 02:57:51 AM

My opinion is: who cares about legal definitions? Bitcoin is whatever you want it to be.

I agree, and for me, above all else Bitcoin is a symbol

It symbolize the new found hope I have, to free myself from economic debt slavery.

Money is just a tool...
Bitcoin is a fucking symbol!

2120  Economy / Speculation / Re: Can bitcoins break $5,000 in 20 years? on: August 30, 2012, 01:37:08 AM
Will the US Dollar even exist in 20 years?

Yes.

Even the war-torn wasteland, somalia, (which has no government or central bank) still uses the pre-war somali shilling. I highly  doubt the Usd is going anwhere, particularly in 20 years.

the key to their success?
