my dream of getting in sub 1300 32 seconds after getting the green light is slipping away!  Undecided
1622  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 10, 2017, 07:37:40 PM
Vinny seems to be pessimist about the ETF decision and he even believes it would be better for bitcoin to not have it yet. he also says there's 100% chance of a huge sell off if dissaproved.

huge sell off if "NO"
huge pump'n if "YES"

after... back to the grind up in either scenario

Coindesk twitter says SEC confirmed with them that decision will be announced today fwiw

links or GTFU

here at killerpotleafLabs we have not confirmed any announcement ( coming from a relevent source ) detailing the time of the announcement.

http://www.coindesk.com/sec-email-winklevoss-bitcoin-etf/

Quote
The years-long process to get the Winklevoss bitcoin ETF approved is expected to come to a conclusion today, a move confirmed by an SEC representative when reached at press time. MarketWatch journalist Ryan Vlastelica reported earlier that an SEC representative had similarly confirmed the planned move.

i had to run, but here's my comments.

the coindesk article points to another article from the 7th and some dudes speculative tweet as "evidence" that the SEC will make a ruling today.

we remain confident that a ruling WILL NOT be provided today largely because of the ongoing summit meeting thing going on at the SEC right now.

By saying "similarly confirmed" that quote intimates that coindesk spoke to a SEC representative separately from the MarketWatch journalist Ryan Vlastelica. However, it's wording is extremely vague and it could be interpreted to mean only Vlastelica spoke to the SEC.

I suppose the answer to the question is still "how long is a piece of string?"

it wouldnt be the first time conidesk has twisted the truth

after re-reading,

they could mean to say that

someone from the SEC say somthing like " yes i think friday too. " when they published there article on the 7th
and today Ryan reports that 1 of the 4000 SEC employees also speculates that today is the day....

i guess if we hear nothing  by 6:00, we'll have to wait till monday.

ok i reviewed the tweet, and Ryan V seems very confident he was told first hand info by a relevent SEC infroment.
hmmm....
now projecting a ruling at 4:30PM 30 mins after the summit meeting ends.

Satoshi never intended to remove the limit.

Satoshi never intended to get close to the limit.
Quote
It can be phased in, like:

if (blocknumber > 115000)
    maxblocksize = largerlimit

It can start being in versions way ahead, so by the time it reaches that block number and goes into effect, the older versions that don't have it are already obsolete.

When we're near the cutoff block number, I can put an alert to old versions to make sure they know they have to upgrade.
1627  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 10, 2017, 08:39:41 AM
This was the right time for a good poll: it would have been good to hear from all of us here about the possible price target in both cases: ETF approval or rejection. IMHO I see the value could go down to $850 if rejected, up to $1500 if approved.
In first case I see a fast correction because new people will come onboard rather soon

i'm thinking 950 or 1800

up or down, the initial correction will be sharp, but after that, we will either recover from 950 or keep pushing to new highs after 1800. there's no fighting this bull, sure we can correct one way or the other but, the trend is set.

i'm going to go out on a limb here and say you are wrong!  Cheesy
You are arguing with John Nash's argument that he developed and explained over a period of 20 years, and you haven't even attempted to understand what he has said.

what does it matter to me if fiat "stabilizes because bitcoin remains unchanged"?
1629  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Open Letter to GMaxwell and Sincere Rational Core Devs on: March 10, 2017, 08:22:59 AM
are you staying the price of bitcoin is stable in that graph? I have no idea what you are saying, I read it like 10 times.

its stable for 10 years and then BOOM and then stable for 10 years and then BOOM.
is this a problem?

just because the monetary base is deflationary doesn't mean its PRICE ( in relations to goods and services ) will be unstable.
you said it yourself Price is not Value.
but realize that value is irrelevant, all that really matters is price.

while you might expect the price of a deflationary money to always slowly rise, in fact it is the underlying value that is slowly rising, price will not necessarily ( and often never ) match value.

here's a neat little chart that plots price and value in relation to BigMacs over time.

even in the very early days of all this, this kind of Value Vs Price pattern is emerging... why is that?
because speluction +  used as money.

 Tongue
1631  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Open Letter to GMaxwell and Sincere Rational Core Devs on: March 10, 2017, 07:28:49 AM
OP

can you point to a post which best describes the root problem you have identified in bitcoin which makes it "not ideal money"

in some post you seem onboard with the idea of deflationary currency, and in other posts you seem to say that this deflationary nature cannot produce stable prices.

deflation means the value is changing.  Stable means the value is not changing.  The definition of ideal in this thread is stable. Bitcoin is deflationary therefore it is not stable therefore it is not ideal money. there is probably 200 posts in this thread that repeat this concept over and over. It's also incredibly basic to point out.

right...

so you're saying bitcoin cannot have a stable value, and so cannot be used to price goods, because its deflationary. (or somthing to that effect.)

but then you say things like
Quote
Secondly the relevant of bitcoin and john nash's lecture is such that bitcoin fits PERFECTLY as the premise which is an international e-currency with a stably issued supply that has an inflation rate that halves periodically.
"fits perfectly"

hmm...

can you offer some hypothetical "fix" to bitcoin's unstable value problem.

And yet I have and will continue to speculate on the exchange rate of Bitcoin.

Basically I couldn't care less about Bitcoin being an ideal currency or not.

Mr. Rabahy, If you would actually read this thread you keep replying to, you would notice that the OP has stated many times in this thread that Bitcoin literally CANNOT be ideal currency, as it is inherently deflationary, and thus cannot maintain stable value over time.

dose OP suggest a more ideal form of money?
is he saying that fiat is better than bitcoin "because deflationary"?
should i be investing in an inflationary crypto ( like DOGE Huh )

its really too bad that I wasted my time reading the first post...
1634  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why I think Blockchain.info is in a good position despite the rising fees on: March 10, 2017, 06:15:09 AM
Since the fees keep rising and the mempool is always flooded because the 1mb blocks are overflowed beyond its confines, I could foresee wallet services making arrangments with Bitcoin merchants, gambling sites and others to make transactions with them through an internal ledger. Settlement will come later on the blockchain.

Blockchain.info is in an excellent position to start this. Soon we'll see recommended merchants inside their wallet.

I want to hear your opinions please.

Blockchain.info is all about security and for that reason they do not store any private keys on their side. Why would they implement a closed ledger that would attract a lot of negative attention from hackers? There are already third parties doing this with off-chain transactions, like Xapo and people would rather use them.

I would rather want to see Blockchain.info beefing up the security and closing all the holes. ^smile^

Right. well then maybe bitpay is in a better position to hold user funds that will eventually be used to pay merchants.
Bitpay bypassing the blockchain in favor a closed loop centralized system might be the slap in the face poeple need to understand just how bad the situation has gotten.

But i think if blockchain.info was to leverage LN payment channels they could pull off a system in which they dont actually control anyones private key but they can facilitate "BTC payments" to merchants.

blockchain.info holds "channels"  to all the merchants, and users hold a channel to blockchain, or somthing...

problem is, payment channels are not available, and they are theoretical a headache to manage, not sure the sunk cost to blockchain.info and the users sunk cost of learning how to use / manage a "channel" is going to be worth it, if you can pay a few dollars to avoid a headache you'll pay for the no-problem-easy-way every time.

I'd love to be proven wrong, but somthing tells me LN V1.0 is going to have problems, some technical, and some really bad user-friendliness types of problems that leads to poeple losing money cuz "not watching their channel properly" or something...

we need to experiment in that direction, but we also need to realize its not a viable solution untill its proven itself. and maybe we can all also recognize that even LN will require FAR larger then 1MB blocks to actually work( unless, you subscribe to the idea that a TX's signature is weightless... )

rising the blocklimit isn't a band-aid solution its a requirement in all scenarios.

how we go about doing it...

through centralized means with an authority setting arbitrary subsidies on certain types of TX?
or
through decentralized consensus mechanism relying on economic incentives to keep block's sized based on supply/demand?

its our choice. sorta.
1635  Economy / Speculation / Re: can my bitcoin drop to nothing on: March 10, 2017, 05:28:21 AM
so I got my first 40$ worth of bitcoin i noticed that the that the 40$ goes up and down. Im scared that it will go to 0$ is this possible?, Should i spend my bitcoin on a giftcard? any help please

you need to buy at least 10X that amount before you start asking these types of questions.

when it come to bitcoin, buy now ask questions later, is best.

I've worked as a Federal contractor and from my experience, Federal workers hate to come in on Fridays.

So my guess, they'll decide early Friday morning then call it a week or not come in at all on Friday then put it off until Monday.
they have an office party on friday.

What's the best way to buy bitcoins instantly? circle?

Where have you been? Circle threw in the towel a few months back. Now they point their orphans to Coinbase.

I never gave a shit about circle, coinbase requires ID's and documents though right?

more like 2 id's and your fingerprints

US based exchanges offer little added security for its users while requiring alot of KYC/AML paper work / restrictions . you're probably much better off with kraken or something based outside US or Chain.

i regret to inform you that, our most recent analyst suggest a 92.7% chance the announcement will not come tomorrow...

most expects at killerpotleaf investment labs project an announcement date of : Monday 11:03AM
1639  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 10, 2017, 02:17:40 AM
This may be a stupid question, but how exactly is the SEC going to announce the decision? Are they going to publish something online or will the king of SEC step out on a balcony of the SEC HQ and proclaim the decision to a raging crowd in front of the building or how else will they do this?

its unclear,

but i believe if you want first hand info your going to want to look at this site
https://www.sec.gov/rules/sro/batsbzx.htm
or maybe
https://www.sec.gov/news/statements

but honestly, its a safe bet this thread will be updated with moons pics 5-10mins after there is some kinda of info leaked anywhere on the net.

so just wait for the wall of rocket gifs....

What's the best way to buy bitcoins instantly? circle?

the fastest way is ATM's or localbitcoins
but your subject to limits and a bad rate ( altho if you think bitcoin is going to shoot up >5% in <1week you might be better off with the high fee / bad rate today then the low fee / good rate a week from now )
