I cant get a good picture sinc emy units are in thier current housing location and not my home - but yes it is those two pins.   they are shaped a bit like :     ----'''\_    with the tip wedged into/under the plastic around it.

just grab a tiny flathead (a jewellers/eyeglasses sized flathead is best) and pry up the pins. it wont take much pressure and they will unseat and spring up very slightly when popped free. bend them together and add a quick solder joint.

If you are able to solder them together without prying them up thats even easier, but they are just far enought apart that its tough to do so with most soldering tips. prying them up and towards eachother is quick and easy

Hello friends, I am sorry to barge in, but will this ^^^ connector above allow me to run my biterupter cube off straight DC 12v at say 20 amps spike voltage? or whatever it needs?

I do not want to fry my cube.  Also, I do not want to continue the loud power supply.  I do have a soldering iron.  Thanks!  ^^^ This connector above seems perfect to plug right into the power connectors on my bit eruptor cube, but how shall I not fry it with too much surge?  Shalln't anyone make a way to ditch the power supply from the BE cube?  Thanks, I will watch this thread and learn!

the connector is a PCI-e so yes it will fit the block erupter cube. The wires are thick and it can definitely handle 20A peak (I would be a bit cautious going any higher without babysitting it until you are sure it is not getting hot).  the leads can be joined to a 12V power supply however you please (soldering them to a server PSU to use with antminers is my primary use)

my hashrate of some miners is still bouncing around a lot - 2 of the miners have dropped to 0 and bounced back up a few time sin the last 6 hours and its a bit dissapointing since it seems similar to the hashrate issues yesterday
My miners are split.  Half of them look fine now and the other half are way below their output rate locally.  I switched one of the low running miners to another pool and it was showing full hash rate there.  I want to say that what we see in data is not hurting the btc earned, but my earnings are down also.  Us having some long rounds the past few days only makes the earning look worse.  I am keeping my miners pointed here to see how this averages out over the week.  Making day-to-day switches of mining pools is not the smartest way to see returns.  Weekly averaging is better but luck is luck.

hoping things get fixed up soon - I am still seeing some odd dips and peaks that are well outside of any anomalies caused by hardware
2124  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: April 09, 2014, 08:30:48 PM
So in reality, a customer wouldn't even need to design a PCB?  Anyone could simply outsource the work for assembly, toss them the design that already exists, and have a working product?  This seems too easy..

How do i order chips?   Cheesy

presumably. however, open-source PCB design is not always the easy solution (look at the dozens of failed K16 projects that took place using avalon chips only a few months ago)

that said, im watching closely for chip prices and PCB designs. I have almost no eagle skills, but am definitely looking into sourcing a local fabrication/assembly if it makes sense when comparing the risks/costs against the simplicity of buying pre-made assemblies from a competitior
2125  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: 400GH/s on: April 09, 2014, 08:17:24 PM
Yes actually. When you make a pre-order and then expect immediate shipping you are being unreasonable. If you want immediate shipping, don't pre-order. It's simply amazing how many people fail to understand how to do that.

No one has ever been forced to pre-order mining gear. If you don't like it and everything it implies, don't do it. Easy.

Done. Thanks. Gadzooks man what's with the trust rating?

I think the pre-order thing could work if the company receiving the funds behaved honorably. Unfortunately that doesn't always happen and then the customers have to try to force the company to do what they said they would do.

hes BFL Josh - basically he is here to call anyone who bought his pre-orders an idiot  Roll Eyes

friedcat, we are waiting for your development.
come on

It seems that things are on the right track, are they not?

Seems so. Announcements are always appreciated, but every chip designer seems to have received chips by now and I guess we'll see first 3rd party specs in the following days. I, for one, am not worried currently.
And I guess the second batch is in production right now and I believe it to be sent to the buyers in early may.

presumably asicminer is testing out the (not-yet-released) open-source PCB design info - which may require some revisions if the chip doesnt play nicely the first time around

I e-mailed bitmain today about the shipment and shipping date, wanted to know when they will start shipping for batch 2, but unfortunately I didn't get any answer, still waiting. From tomorrow i am gonna email them a lot, until I get an answer, it is a good reliable company but their communication with customer is horrible and it should be addressed and improved.

I emailed Bitmain last night (about 12 hours ago) asking to change the shipping address and see if it could mail out ASAP since I will be away all next week.
and received a response roughly 8 hours ago that they would be shipping them 'tomorrow' (and also to confirm that they will change the shipping address)

Looks like they will ship ON the 10th, not before it. slightly dissapointed by that, but in no way is it the end of the world. It just means I have to get everything in place (power cord, LAN cable, clear instructions for setup and pool info) so that I can have someone else do the setup for me.

If noone is doing proper overclocking by the 21st - I will be pulling out the boards one-by-one to pencil mod them, throwing in an extra 800W supply, and seeing what can be done to improve the airflow (small chip-seated heatsinks that are a tedius process to apply, or more fans?)

I am willing to try some OC but I cant even get a clock change to stick ....it reverts back to stock on reboot.   Any suggestions?

Thanks

I havent had a chance to play with one yet, but it was mentioned somewhere in another thread that some files seem to be reverted to default at reboot while others did not
2129  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Announcement: Bitmain launches AntMiner solution, 0.68 J/GH on chip on: April 09, 2014, 05:01:21 PM
Those look like the leads are ~1ft long. Is that correct, and can you get them a little longer, say 2ft?

they are 30cm (11.9"?) so yeah about a foot.

I can definitely get them made longer, such as 2ft, for probably not much more, but am unable to do so until I organise selling off some of this current batch.  The wires are really good and thick so there is zero chance of these burning up due to shitty 18-22awg stuff will. If you look at the image the tinned ends are FAT

I got these to terminal to some fat 8AWG wiring that comes off my server PSUs (rather than solder dozens of thin wires to the supply), since that lets me run a few pci-e leads per 8AWG cable

Just got these in today - I have several dozen for sale and can order more if required.

6-pin PCI-e connector (black)
30cm, 16AWG wires (yellow and black)
tinned ends on wire  (1cm tinned)

These are solid connectors and far superior to the garbage 18AWG connectors found on ebay. I have yet to test them on hardware, but there should be absolutely no problem carrying 200W or more (potentially upwards of 250W) through these leads. (In comparison, I have seen other cheap 18awg wiring melt or burn at over 150W)

SHIPPING FROM TORONTO, CANADA

1-4 units: $3.50 each
5-10 units: $2.75 each
11-20 units: $2.25 each

These are solid connectors and far superior to many power supply cables or cheap wiring found in some 18awg cables. The 16awg cable is capable of supplying 300W without significant heating up of the wires, and I've tested them at over 320W without failure (at that load active cooling of the wires is advised). Ive been able to run an antminer S5 using a pair of 16awg cables and a pair of splitters to distribute power to all 4 connectors at stock speeds. We have several boxes of Insulin syringes with the bd ultra fine needle we are looking to unload.  3/10ml (doses up to 30units), 12.7mm length and 30g.  They are sterile in packs of 10, boxes of 50.  Not real sure what they go for so if theirs any interest I can get pictures and take offers.  This will be shipped from the states.

donate them to the local needle exchange program. Not sure how easily you will find buyers for these, since a 10pack of them can be gotten free from a clinic or bought at walmart for a few dollars at the pharmacy. Also, people generally will be pretty cautious about buying needles from the internet (lol)

not sure what you're expecting here.  Nobody is going to pay 300 BTC for a 100 BTC bar - the added value of the hologram error is maybe worth 2-3 BTC *at most* (if that) - so a max price of 102 or 103 is far more reasonable.  You've already had an offer of 102.5, maybe you should take that and accept the 2.5 BTC profit.

Will

102.5 is far too low. An unredeemed bar carries far more value than a redeemed bar (not counting contents). IF redeemed 100BTC bar went for ~2.5BTC than an unredeemed should be capable of going for far more - perhaps 120BTC.

tl;dr  - There are are 3 likely suspects...

KNC, ghash or BTCGuild

I doubt it's Discus Fish since many of the people who would leave Eligius for calmer waters would not pick a Chinese centric pool

If it is not the above three, then it is something personal and/or jealously as the driving factor

KNC does not make sense to me - disrupting other pools does not improve their own since it is private. And there are more chinese miners than you think - its entirely likely some eligius users would be able to speak or translate it (but I agree it *may* not be enough to warrant the attack by discus fish)
2139  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [GUIDE] Undervolt antminer s1 [1.19W/GH at the wall] on: April 08, 2014, 08:24:57 PM
if you are going to trouble yourself to soldering a solid resistor then it would make more sense to solder A POTentiometer and have the flexibility of adjustable resistor settings.

That would be ideal for fine tuning but for being novice at soldering, wiring in a pot adds more difficulty than I am comfortable with. Tacking on a resistor to the sides of the existing resistor seems a little more doable for my skill level.  And it's only $5 vs about $55 for the pots.

But, now that I think about it more, pencil would work just fine. I wanted to add the resistor so I wouldn't have to worry about the graphite potentially flaking off. But even if it did, having them hooked to a kill a watt would show a rise in electricity use.  Then I would just have to check each voltage to find the culprit and just add more pencil.

go with a pencil mod - i did it for my bitfury cards (exact same regulator with 2 voltage-controlling resisters) and it works great. It isnt worth the effort and risks of desoldering pcb components and swapping in new resistors when a few rubs with a pencil works fine. tips:

1) get an artist pencil such as a 3B instead of a 2. It is a bit softer and leaves a tiny bit more soft graphite for a rub - a little bit easier to tweak the resistance this way
2) start small. Over time, the pencil mod will 'age' and slightly decrease the resistance even frther than when it was first applied, as the graphite is baked by the hot pcb. leave a little bit of headroom when you do a mod, and expect the resulting voltage to drift a little bit over a 4-12 hour period. (drifts up if overvolting and down if undervolting)

100a dedicated line being installed now to the "mining shed". Here is a quick pic of the shed itself:

It is air conditioned and will have an inline exhaust fan with registers behind each rack of miners to expel heat produced by the miners.

That looks like a grow house. Be careful that you don't look extremely suspicious by running huge amounts of power to a well-ventilated, light-sealed shed in your yard that you are going in and out of several times a week.

You might get a knock from the cops - followed by the tax-man
