That's because you don't know what "sync" means, it means it's downloading the whole blockchain, wich yes, takes days. The standard client isn't exactly meant to be used by normal people. Please use a lightweight client like MultiBit https://multibit.org/ or Electrum, they don't need the blockchain. |

I managed to solve the problem but I think I'm going to use that client anyway since the standard wallet wont sync with the network.

"syncing" means downloading the whole blockchain wich take like 30 or more hours. So yes, using a lightweight client is a very good idea.  |

Use a lightweight client like multibit
Yes it is very slow and yes it is a problem and that's why they are working on a new database system wich will make downloading the blocks much much faster. This said, use lightweight clients
