1241  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Legality of withdrawing stolen Bitcoins on: April 22, 2013, 12:22:48 PM
Theft is a crime, an old one. The incompetency of the police does not make stealing bitcoins legal
1242  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if Bitcoin is not just a value transfer program but; Direct Democracy? on: April 22, 2013, 12:21:11 PM
I somehow agree with this thread. New technologies allow for new form of governments. Current governments are based on 60 year old technology, back then we didn't have internet, computer, smartphones, connections everywhere etcetc. But today we have them all. Using all these technologies would greatly help the population. Why elect a representant when today everyone can attend at anything via video? Why trust someone when today every citizen can express their opinion via internet?
1243  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin should not be a currency, but a payment system on: April 22, 2013, 12:15:18 PM
This is nonsense. If for something i can buy a smartphone worth 500$, then what i used to pay is worth 500$.

Isn't that what NameCoin does? I know it's mainly talked about as a p2p version of DNS
No, Namecoin is like bitcoin but with added p2p and decentralized version of DNS

Legally there is no law protecting your asset

I will continue to petition them via my method of never buying their product.

b) pool operators only, not miners contributing hashes to them
Even if they go after pool operators, we have p2pool wich is operated by no one!  Wink

Notepad, copy-paste the private key there, save and rename in .key and ta-dah you will be able to import it into Multibit. Probably in the future versions of Multibit you will be able to import keys directly via the program  Wink

An idea that might make a change is "negative interest". If you don't use your coins for for let's say a few weeks , you pay a "tax" for not using your coins and the system automatically reduces a certain amount of coins from your account.

1251  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie question about mining on: April 21, 2013, 04:30:26 PM
Mining is for security. When someone make a transaction, that transaction is relayed to every node in the bitcoin network, wich takes only some seconds. But it is still an unconfirmed transaction. To become confirmed it must be put in a block by a miner. The blockchain is the backbone of the bitcoin system, it is where all transactions are recorded and it is how bitcoin make sure no one can counterfeit bitcoins or double spend them. Why? Because modifying the blockchain is almost impossible, due to how blocks are created. It takes a lot of computing power to find one wich follow the bitcoin rules, and that's what miners do, find blocks and put transactions into them, making the bitcoin network secure  Wink

No, why?
1256  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: why is it important to save the whole blockchain on: April 19, 2013, 09:19:47 PM
The chain only contain transactions.

Simply, the chain could only contain the last movements of the bitcoins. If i send bitcoins to address A and then to address B there is no need to keep in the chain the first transaction, it could be pruned and thus reduce the chain size  Wink Maybe one day it will be done.
1257  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Buy e.g 4000 bitcoins on: April 19, 2013, 09:17:02 PM
You would have to verify it
1258  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: why is it important to save the whole blockchain on: April 19, 2013, 07:15:25 PM
Because the blockchain contain all the transactions happened, it is needed to know how many bitcoins an address has. If you keep only the last 1000 blocks, then this info would disappear

It is true that not EVERY transaction is required, probably in the future the chain will be pruned to contain only the current situation of the addresses and not every transaction

1260  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Transaction Fees on: April 19, 2013, 05:33:14 PM
You are confused. Who make the transaction set the fee! The miner then include the transactions in the block. It is not people that use the block  Wink It is the miner that put transactions in the block and get the fees. So, who decide the fee? Who make the transaction  Wink
