Imo Devs can't fix this, I am not even sure if freezing could have legal consequences, jeopardising the whole project.

I suspect it's possible to freeze it and wait for him asking for refund of the original bitcoins.

You can't be 100% sure it is his account.

If he sold this account, the new owner would have to prove he is not CH?
How would this work? This has (legal) problems written all over it.

That would be Child Harold's headache, not ours.

Not realy, it would be the new owners problem, who's account would be frozen by Iota devs.

We can't freeze accounts after launch at all.

No I mean, Cfb has recieved the seed of the account of CH at some point, this way he knows 100% it is CH's account.

CH could have sold this account already (and my guess is he did).

The new owner of this account would have his account frozen.

How would he proove he is not CH?

The only way I see it what could be done is setting up a Fund and donate as a community, don't know if it would fly.

I don't know what the best solution is either, freezing the account may not be the answer. I hope CH logs in and say 'whats up man,I was just on holiday here are your IOTA' and proves us wrong otherwise there is someone out there that thinks it's acceptable to take peoples bitcoins and we are allowing them to get away with it..
I find this hard to accept because it would mean there are at least 12 other people at a loss before the launch. Im not demanding answers from @Iotatoken I just think there has been a lot of speculation based around this subject and the devs are the only ones that can fix it.
Regards,
FT

You gave your bitcoin to an absolute stranger, it's the same thing as giving money to a complete stranger on the street.
Take responsibilty for your mistake, learn from it.

Again to freeze an account, you need to be 100% procent sure it is CH's, which is impossibe. The only one who knows for sure it's his account is the owner, no third party can absolutely be sure.

Imo Devs can't fix this, I am not even sure if freezing could have legal consequences, jeopardising the whole project.

As I said, David/ Cbf, has to be 100% sure it is CH's account, which is impossible. Even if at one point the address of CH would have been known, who is to say that he didn't sell it? This buyer would have his account freezed because of people didn't use escrow? This would be unacceptable imo. Crypto is great because you are in controle of the whole spectrum of your funds, with all the pro's and cons attached to it.

The only way I see it what could be done is setting up a Fund and donate as a community, don't know if it would fly.
226  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [IOTA] IOTA Speculation on: June 26, 2016, 10:03:57 AM
...have not been effected by the theft.

You voluntairily sent btc to a complete strainger on the interweb, without using escrow (with multiple warnings from different members) and you are talking about theft? No you just gave him your money with nothing in return that's all. Stop demanding answers, accounts are annonimous, you can't freeze without being 100% sure it's childsharrolds. Even more, who says he actually had the iota he was selling?

Let's all donate 10%! so devs can continue to develop Iota!

Excuse my ignorance but didn't the IOTA crowdfund raise a very large amount of money earlier? Why donate again now?

~CfA~

500k, no premine, a foundation is needed to continue development in the years to come.

Yeah, just opened the site on my iphone, loads fast, looks awesome!
Let's all donate 10%! so devs have funds to continue to develop Iota in the future!
Also if you skills get involved!

white theme?

When sites have black backgrounds with white text readabilty gets less. I like it when there is an option to change the background to white/grey + black text to easily read the text.

It is funny seeing cryptoknight lowering his price even more.

Really? It looks more expensive considering bitcoin price as increased substantially over the last month.
USD is not a valid parameter... have you seen any IOTA offers denominated in USD?
I haven't see an offer in FIAT. But USD is a valid parameter. If someone uses FIAT he has to disclose his identity for bank transfer. And it's pretty easy to convert BTC to FIAT.

Bitcoin is the standard around here. Cool

There are a lot of people still doing straightsales, and ignoring valuable advise to use escrow.

People are free to do whatever they want with their money.

True, I have no problem with that.

It's the whining about getting scammed that pisses me off. 'Oh no I got scammed!' No you didn't, you just sent a bunch of money to a random person on the internet without collateral.
232  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [IOTA] IOTA Speculation on: June 24, 2016, 01:42:03 PM
well, the guys selling via escrow are all gone? I'd like to buy 120G IOTA @ 1 BTC. Anyone?

People without a high trustlevel who don't want to use escrow can not be trusted.

Well done on the website!

Couple of points:
- The logo image is great but what happened to the typeface, a helvetica/arial is used now. I realy like the original type.
- I like the font (refrigerator-deluxe) for the website, has a nice tech feel to it but as stated by someone else, could be bigger (Illustrations)
- The purple dots/ text disappears in the green.
- I like the black, but I would also incorporate a white theme.
- At MICRO-TRANSACTIONS the text is not the refrigerator-deluxe.

Looking forward to GUI!

ALWAYS USE ESCROW!

It has been said over and over again in the beginning of the Iota trading, but people tend to only learn the hard way.

Shall we start a new thread for announcements?

Sasha, can you please reply on this.

Hi sasha, I'm having trouble with 2FA on ico (Google Authetication on my iphone crashed). But I still have the 16 digit code.
I have send an email to: rideon@wavesplatform.com
They replied they need my password and my ico account.
Is this correct?

Thanks

A simple Yes or No will suffice.
