Guys, I know you would hate me for this but I can't hold suggesting it:

I would like to change the name of NEM to NIM

New Internet Movement rather than New Economy Movement.

It would make more sense to expand and reach more average non-technical users with the name NIM rather than NEM.

In fact I don't see NEM as an economy at all as much as I see it as a new internet platform that is much more secure than any other platform available today in terms of social network, dns, messaging, trading, .....

It doesn't have to stand for anything past NEM, once we make it a brand, it doesn't even matter what the NEM acronym stands for. I do agree "New Economy Movement" isn't the best. How about New Era Money, Nifty Electronic Money. If there is anything wrong with NEM, I'd say it's the N, if we want to be around for awhile, we probably shouldn't be called New anything.

I think HTC's ad campaign was pretty popular when it was around.

Hi Guys, I would like to share with you some of my thoughts about NEM's future value. If you look into the amazing short history of Bitcoin "just 3 years!" You would find that whenever a new service or product been offered for Bitcoin the higher Bitcoin price advanced. One of the main factors that effluences the value of any Crypto currency is what you can use it for.

Bitcoin has only one use/value which is basically to be traded and exchanged to other currencies/products/goods, where other crypto currencies have other features and usages that are very specific to its algorithms, such as ASIC mining resistance and transaction Mixing. If you look into each single crypto currency that made it to the market during the past year you will find that each of which has its own unique feature that attracts specific domain of users demand. On the other hand crypto currencies that failed, basically failed cause it couldn't manager to offer any new in terms of usage/features.

NEM is one of the very first crypto currency that managed to implement multiple features that cover all features offered in all other crypto currencies, plus much more. The proof of importance forging/mining feature on its own is a huge advantage over all other cryptos including NXT. Market place, Asset exchange, transaction mixing, social network, and way much more. NEM is one of the first attempts toward an internet evolution of an encrypted secure decentralized social network.

As long as NEM's usage and features are going to constantly continue evolving and expanding, I would have no doubt that NEM's market capital will one day hit a higher value than Bitcoin's market capital. The spirit, effort, collaboration, evolution, innovation, ease, team, community, concept, creativity and hopes behind NEM is what makes me feel that NEM tends to be the one Crypto currency that will dominate the market in the near future.

These thoughts were the main points that helped me in making a critical decision of selling all my alt coins in addition to all my bitcoins to invest in NEMstakes.

If I may add, cryptos that have specific domains of users will eventually fade off. We need a crypto that is pervasive and target the masses. Bitcoin, in away, is only specific to 2 million odd users and is by far the largest. But that is not good enough. I reckon we need something like 50 million users to achieve critical mass for widespread adoption.

Hence, yes, Bitcoin will be displaced one day. Let's hope it is NEM. I am of the opinion that Bitcoin will be displaced by a new version of crypto. I wouldn't call it 2.0 just yet but we'll see if NEM can be a front runner for that.

It will all come to the ease of use and the richness of functionalities. Having a wow crypto features is not enough. We need more simple features that would attract more nontechnical users. For instance a non technical user should find it easy to use NEM to socialize with friends all over the world. Or to sell and trade digital and physical goods same way as he/she would do in ebay. And more importantly easy access to NEM network on all platforms including mobile phones.
I agree with this so much!
We don't need a bunch of next gen features to get mass adoption (although I'm sure I'd have fun with them). We need simplicicity. We need to make our client very easy to use. We also need to make terms relateable to people.
For example, the asset exchange, it's like crowdfunding. Obviously not the most thorough or best definition, but if people want to know more, they will look into.

Just read a coindesk article about blockchain selling prepaid cards with BTC on them. We could do the same thing with NEM, and it should really help with new users. We could make it as simple and as similiar as redeeming a giftcard. Doesn't seem too difficult to implement. Either make it a scratch-off, or maybe even make it reloadable like a debit card.
Edit: I think scratch-off type would be best to start, the debit card type wouldn't be too useful until brick-and-mortar stores accept it.

It seems like if we want mass adoption, we should use devices such as credit cards that are familiar to most people.

This sounds like a good idea. We could work this in tandem with my ATM project.

I am going to be building a prototype Nem ATM very soon. Software will come later.

Is this the one you are talking about?
Xapo Announces New Bitcoin Debit Card Offering

Xapo Debit Card
http://blog.xapo.com/post/83436492784/announcing-the-xapo-debit-card

Here is one example of how we could store NEM using a prepaid card instead of a paper wallet.

BlackCoin Card - Transport your valuable BlackCoins safely
http://blackcoincard.com

Blackcoin uses this payment gateway.
https://www.coinpayments.net/supported-coins

This sums up a bit more about what I meant.

I mean more like http://redeem.bitcoin.com/
Where we create a similar site, but just for NEM.
People just throw away the "gift cards" after they redeem the NEM and put it in their online or app wallet.

Essentially:
1st create these gift cards
2nd create "debit cards that are reloadable, and can be accepted by merchants.
3rd step would be next-gen tech, such as a phone/watch/ring

I like the blackcard route (but you have to use a windows pc to connect to it? We need something cross-platform).
I will look more into it, it is something I saw awhile ago, and forgot to follow up on.
btw, I'm rethinking steps 2 and 3, those should be done at the same time most likely.

If the thread keeps going like this, I think it would be a good idea.

its gone nuts altogether isnt it.. :/ trolls are out in force!

I am secretly hoping that he starts taking his meds again, and this thread calms down  Grin

Hi NEM community!

A week ago I found out that NEM tokens were on sale so I bought 2.9 @ 25K NXT and my wife 0.5 (around 80K NXT total), then found out that there is a limit of 2.0, so I already am in breach. I do not have any stakes because I was too bold and naive when requesting them.

In the light of recent events, I wanted to ask you, whether there is a chance that limit of 2.0 NEM tokens per person (actually NXT account) can be lifted?
I ask this just to enquire if it is ok to pursue my initial intentions (see my post history).

If the limit of 2.0 tokens is not lifted, I will sell the excess.

I think You and Your wife for both can buy 4 stakes-so fell free to buy a little more Wink
2 stakes per NXT account. You and your wife can have at least 2 NXT account or more Grin

Technically him and his wife should have 1 NEMstake each, however having a bit more is no big deal.

you can have 2 stakes per NXT account.

Just send the 1.4 stake to another NXT account.

Exactly, the 2 token limit is to make it difficult for whales to cashout. If people like you circumvent that a bit, it's not that big of a deal.
228  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread {Updates & Discussion} on: June 15, 2014, 09:05:35 AM

And this is only one reason why bitcoin needs to be replaced.

yup. i got into crypto's late last year, but from my analysis i deemed bitcoin and PoW a bigger risk than anything else. Proof of Stake was a nice alternative but Nxt's launch and ipo was less than ideal. pos also poses its own problems, namely that of whales and hording - which in the end, leads to centralization, poor adoption, and manipulation.

this is why NEM intrigues me the most - the proof of importance (that i prefer to call proof of interest) if, comes to fruitition, will really cause a stir the crypto world needs. we need to encourage spending, not hording; POI is (so far) the best bet for this. this really CANNOT be understated and for the sake of NEMs longevity it would be good if we think of ways to enhance the POI method to better accomplish this. if POI makes it easier for the end user to use, services and retailers will naturally crop up.

The money needs to keep flowing and moving to make a currency viable. FIAT accomplishes it by printing that leads to inflation/deflation with all the associated dire risks.

I agree with this so much. I got into Bitcoin around the same time, and after I kept learning more and more, Bitcoin just didn't seem like the answer. PoW is flawed in many ways, I can't wait to get my hands on PoI!

since the troll is sleeping let me remind you this:

hint:
1. if you have even slightest assumption someone might be a troll, please, do not quote, not even the new ones, do not get provoked.
2. use the ignore button, simple as that
3. instead of getting involved in soap opera we have a chance of getting involved in real cryptocurrency development. One shouldn't even be able to say those things in same sentence.

Can not be stressed enough. He's relentless and doesn't seem to sleep much, it's a bad combo.
Pretend he doesn't exist, and pretty soon he won't.

And make sure to check it out tomorrow, and the next day, it is still a work in progress, and it's getting better every day.
231  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: {NEW ECONOMY MOVEMENT} (--NEW--) NEM Official Thread {Updates & Discussion} on: June 15, 2014, 02:51:17 AM
Would it be hard or even possible to create a decentralized faucet in NEM client that is funded by donations? So when people buy their first alias, send their first message, they don't have to use an outside website. Just brainstorming.

It'd be cool to create games people play rather than just a faucet. That why it would take time to get the NEM, which would reduce the likelihood of spamming.

If we made an adventure game, we could tell a compelling story about creating a new world economy based on financial freedom, decentralization, and equality Cheesy

That sounds awesome, you have some great ideas Makoto.

Did anyone ever play the flash-based emo game? (warning: not safe for work) http://www.emogame.com/

It'd be sweet if we could make a game lik that. I can't draw at all, but I could help write a story or something.
Yeah, super not safe for work. I should've put my dog in the other room. Grin
I remember this game back in the day. I have only a few hours of experience coding a game(it was javascript), but I'm sure we have someone around here that could create something much better gameplay wise than that atleast (That game is already 10 years old).

Looks do-able: http://jlongster.com/Making-Sprite-based-Games-with-Canvas

Definitely, I'll mess around with that example they give. I encourage all aspiring game creators to do the same!

I am new to NEM. I've just bought a couple of stakes. I found NEM pretty interesting for too many reasons. I am happy to join you guys.

I have an old Bitcointalk.org account "2011" that I've lost access to 6 months ago. I still can't find a way to get my old account back. I would be grateful if someone knows a way to return back a lost account to inform me in a private message.

For the last 6 months I didn't need to connect to bitcointalk.org as nothing was that interesting to me the same way it use to be 2 years ago. NEM is the most interesting project/movement I've ever known. In fact I find NEM more interesting than Bitcoin itself. For that I've created a new account "NEMergizer" just to join you guys. Just in case you happen to know me under my old account, my old lost account is "Energizer".

Glad to see another new stakeholder, it seems more and more are showing up everyday, making the distribution even more widespread and awesome, inspiring stuff!
As far as recovering your account, I would try to get in contact with a moderator. I personally have noticed that recovering account via email has been broken for awhile (for me atleast) maybe you are having the same issue?
233  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread {Updates & Discussion} on: June 14, 2014, 06:17:43 PM
The old thread is locked, can it be opened and a big smiley face put on the end page.
Or at least Nem thread has now moved to** because i found looking for this thread interesting.
EDIT. i need a new keypad

Unfortunately UP locked it without warning (maybe he said something on IRC, but that would be about it).
I agree it is very annoying. Maybe we can beg UP to unlock the thread for a second, to put the this threads link at the top. He may still be listening....
But is it even possible to unlock a thread once it is locked?
234  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread {Updates & Discussion} on: June 14, 2014, 06:04:12 PM
IMO I think that's a bad idea. We would be manipulating the price, and for what? Just to brag about how much NEM was worth at a certain point?
It would probably also make patmasters job a living hell, with all the people that would be begging for a token.
UP is gone, but from what I remember UP wasn't that interested in putting tokens on the AE anyways, it was the community that convinced him, so I think UP not being here is kind of irrelevant in this situation.

Actually it would make my life easier. Right now i get a load of requests for tokens.
So if we would stop at 500 it would save me a load of work.
I'm however also against it. We said 1000 and unless something unexpected happens we'll stick with that.

Sorry what I meant is that it would be a pain for you because I imagine people would still be hitting you up for tokens, regardless if you are issuing any more, I could be wrong though.
235  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread {Updates & Discussion} on: June 14, 2014, 05:48:14 PM
I have an idea and I think it's a great Idea. Why don't you stop right now the NEM token distribution. If you do the price will rise to the moon as there will be more buyers than sellers eventually in the asset exchange, if you continue sending the tokens the price of NEM will remain the same or go down. Then when alpha is released the price will go even higher in the asset exchange. Now the price to buy one token is 21k next. If you stop sending tokens I bet you that the price of one NEM token will multiply by 2 and when alpha is release multiply by other 2 also so I guess by 25th of June one NEM token will be 80K nexts. What do you think?

Not a good idea no one should control price, UP promised to send 1000 Tokens so it should be not more than 1000 and if someone wants NEM token he/she should get if we are still under 1000 mark.

Up is not here anymore,I think New management has to  decide. In business you need to move with new times and ideas if you stay in the past your project will be stacked...When in a company the management  changes, new rules and policies are added or remove that's the purpose of new management

What you want is a ring that replaces your credit card.

On top of the ring is a scanner that scans your fingerprint, or the fingerprint of the person you pay to.

Did you know that you carry your public key at the tips of your fingers?
You just have to swipe your finger over the ring.

Proof of Person: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=650482.msg7284313#msg7284313

Pentamon

Wouldn't that violate privacy? You would not feel uncomfortable doing that?

Gift cards would tie in very well with an ATM. Pentamon, Your device would be interesting, but that would be much more expensive than a few hundred dollars it would cost to get the giftcards up and running.

Regarding the AE, I bought part of a stake there.  Is there anything I need to do for now or just wait until NEM is formally released?

You got it, you just have to wait until launch. Then you will trade your token for NEM.

What time can be issued NEMstake?  thanks.

There's no time yet, patmaster is working on it and I'm sure will let everyone know when he is able to issue more NEMstakes.
