Yes, I thought the BBC interview was really good. It didn't pander to the bleeding obvious but rather tempted what is to come..
222  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MTGox lost 750K Bitcoins? on: February 25, 2014, 02:54:57 PM
Technically, the loss is actually Mt.Gox loss and the customer needs to be made whole.  A custiodian of customer's property has no right to steal that customers property.  Does not matter if it was fiat,  gold, btc or coffee beans.

Nice idea but surely that's the point of bankruptcy, they cut their losses and liability and we all hope then they don't start over - potentially those at fault getting a ban from being owner or on executive of companies in that one country.. hence the move to Singapore mooted in that leaked plan.

Also, what's with all the +1 +2 empty comments!?
I'm starting to use the ignore button as I guess these are just bots and those with nothing to offer.
224  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: "listaccounts" and "labels" : why is it this way ? on: February 25, 2014, 02:22:20 PM
I tried to make a new address and have the same label for two addresses. When I typed "listaccounts" it showed me only the label which was the same for both addresses.

When I change the label to something else then all the addresses according to labels are listed.

Why does listaccounts show according to labels ? I mean to ask what is the logic behind it. Wouldnt showing by addresses be more meaningful ?

Accounts surely are a sum of addresses. So, what you've described makes sense.

If you want a list by addresseses then try
 listreceivedbyaddress 0 true
which, if I've remembered that correctly, will list all addresses even with zero balance and their label.

List by account then, from what you've described, groups by label =='account'.
225  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: amir taaki on bbc :( on: February 25, 2014, 02:17:56 PM
Juding him on a performance in 2012, is a bit rough. Those critiquing him likely wouldn't do it better.

I'd like to know why it is that people willingly choose not to dress appropriately for a TV interview in which appearance is clearly a vital part of the presentation?

Appearance isn't everything - judge on the content. Do you really want him to look like a bankster!? He looked like one of us; one among many, rather than representing a vested interest perpetuating exisiting power and wealth. Good luck to him I say.

Also, I swaer this thread is going in circles now. Repeat FUD and read again.
226  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MTGox lost 750K Bitcoins? on: February 25, 2014, 02:13:37 PM
Were they stolen and still could be in circulation?

If the background to that rumour is true and its been actioned over a long period, then it's likely the perp sold the coins as they aquired them. That is, they're not sat there holding 750k BTC but rather the price over the last few years has been depressed by those being sold. The theft then only becomes obvious now and those who thought they had coins on MtGox didn't really hold anything (flashes of fiat reality in my head), coupled with that all holders of BTC who've been spending in the real world on product or back out to fiat, have lost money to those theiving.

Which then is a good sign perhaps that the appitite for Bitcoins was sufficient to absorb that amount and still show a healthy rise. We'll have to wait and see now, if then the price of coins avaliable without MtGox interference, suggests there really is more demand than easy forged supply.
227  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What role did drugs play in the ascendency of Bitcoin? on: February 25, 2014, 01:47:40 PM
If drugs+ played a role, then perhaps it was in helping to prove the technology worked well. Notoriety always raises profile and I expect helped engage the main stream press - they do seem to like sensation and scandal. I'd suggest crime has become a minority interest already; and certainly once the bigger potential of cryptocurrencies for trade becomes obvious, its cloudy history will fade.
228  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BREAKING NEWS: Bitcoin Developer Says Gox Document Leak Is A Hoax on: February 25, 2014, 11:29:24 AM
If there was anything said at MtGox you should have taken a screen shot and posted as MtGox is offline now.

I think he's refering to the source code on the blank page that is MtGox.com now.

It suggests only <!-- put announce for mtgox acq here -->
229  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BREAKING NEWS: Bitcoin Developer Says Gox Document Leak Is A Hoax on: February 25, 2014, 11:14:13 AM
When in doubt, stick to what you know.

MtGox is behaving consistent with fail.

In failing to communicate what is going on, they are fueling speculation and making the problem worse that it otherwise would be.
I don't understand, if they've lost BTC that their exchange value means anything. They should stop.
230  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: No Gox bailout! Bitcoin threatens kleptocracy and through that saves capitalism on: February 25, 2014, 10:24:03 AM
Well Andreas also made some very clear public statements in the past few days that he strongly believes Mtgox has no solvency problems. So at the moment I could a fuck what he thinks.
Should anyone give a fuck about what someone who's barely been on the forum for two months thinks?

Age on forum isn't relevant to the point being made. Be nice to noobs etc.

It's ok from here in London, UK.
232  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin shop in London on: February 24, 2014, 09:15:50 PM
This is great. I wonder if he buys to?

Yes.. he was looking out for opportunities to buy. Apparently a couple of miners had already gone there offering but whether that's enough to cover outgoing, I don't know.
233  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin shop in London on: February 24, 2014, 08:04:24 PM
Thier price are higher than market a lot?

3% commission above main exchanges is lower that I've seen localbitcoins ever offer.
234  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin shop in London on: February 24, 2014, 08:01:39 PM
How is it not a currency? And what is the principal capability?

If I give you something in the real world, you know that I've given it to you.
If I give you something on the internet, to date you can't see that as a unique instance.

The blockchain allows people to transfer ownership with confidence. Currency has a lot to do with confidence but the point about Bitcoin is that it's a ledger. If you and everyone else, acknowledges that ownership of an object is bound to a particular coin, they you can transfer ownership - on the internet - without third parties; that's capability to do trade that hasn't been possible before. These sorts of innovations and developments are what make great leaps forward in economics.

Add to that what the Bitcoin2.0 protocols can do and you're in a world that is beyond our imaginations right now. New capabilities for decentralised organisations etc etc etc. and the mainstream hasn't even got its head around Bitcoin basics yet.. and you're worried about the Bitcoin price tanking Wink

236  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Exactly 21 Million ? on: February 24, 2014, 07:41:36 PM
Thank you for highlighting the reasoning that has led to the world being so f&*ked up...

Better the older generations do leave their descendants alone than ever try to anticipate and frustrate them.

More to the point then is the idea of leaving the world a better place than you found it and making an effort to not limit the prospects of future generations; which is perhaps more what you are looking to. Future problems are not ours to worry about - it's not our problem; all we have to do then is not make the problems worse. The obvious example being the economy and financial crisis. If there was only a solution to hand that could help solve the financial crisis; empower people; and give future generations opportunity to have a more stable base for their economy..
237  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin shop in London on: February 24, 2014, 07:23:43 PM
I don't know but he didn't seem particularly concerned; suggesting if it doesn't work here, he'll do the same in Canada or wherever. Perhaps he's just keen to support Bitcoin's development.

I was one of three people that arrived the same time. He's directly opposite a University campus too. I doubt he's going to be short of customers.

> If the market tanks how is he going to remain in profit?

Some of us don't worry about the worst case and just get on and spend time ensuring there is a positive outcome. Reality is rarely worst case or best case but somewhere in-between.

Those who've looked into what Bitcoin is, understand the real potential is far more than most understand at the moment. Coupled with that he's bought from Amir a long while ago, I expect Akin's got an edge there. Indeed he has a poster on the wall 'Bitcoin is not currency', which is spot on. Thinking of Bitcoin as only money is missing the principal capability. Bitcoin gives people a confidence to trade and that is valuable; and that's why anyone recognizing that will be buying into it. Look at what's emerging now in Mastercoin and Ethereum - that's the future. Mainstream is always slow to catch on to what is the future but some developments are inevitable.
238  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty Protocol, Client and Coin (built on Bitcoin) - Official on: February 22, 2014, 11:01:09 PM
I'm not sure where the 2.5% trading fee is coming from but I don't see that's a problem at this early stage. If that's far beyond other coins or exchanges, then obviously it's to be expect you might adjust that to match later on.

I'd prefer seeing XCP back on Poloniex asap. I'm keen to double down having seen the devs and community work through such an issue so well.

240  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin shop in London on: February 22, 2014, 06:26:07 PM
So, I dropped by this afternoon and it's everything it appears to be. Akin is very cool and obviously clued in; cool as in, he got his Bitcoin's a couple of years ago from Amir Taaki. He's moving with the times relative to MtGox and switched from a simple price averaging that included them, to looking now at BitStamp and others for a good real price, to which he adds 3% commission - so, not the high end of localbitcoins and I expect might be cheaper than ZipZap and the ATMs though I don't know what those are just yet.

He's only been open since Monday and surprised by the attention already, though I suspect also rather enjoying it.

I mentioned bitcointalk in passing, which he was apparently unaware of; he noted the idea of selling other items for Bitcoin but I suspect he's got plenty enough to do already. No plans for alt-coins just yet but realistic about those in the future, if they ever dissociate from BTC and have real world potential etc.

Highly recommended then. Akin good to do business with and the process he has setup is as simple as can be. You pay whatever you want and get a receipt with a code to redeem later to any address you want. That receipt of coins then is very fast and so I had mine around the 70secs the ticket suggested.

 Cool
