Awesome, it seems as if there is enough interest to move forward with this project.

I will keep you all posted on the progress I make in the coming weeks.  Smiley

On a related note, does anyone have one or two cheap coins that I could purchase to do testing with? They would need to have a pit for a private key. Preferably located in the US for cheap shipping.

I have several Silver Wallets that have blemishes on them if that works?

I have a silver wallet that I can use and a Genesis coin on the way. I think one more silver wallet to test on would be perfect. Not concerned about the condition at all. PM me a price and payment address  Smiley

I'll donate you one of my genesis first series coins.  I will peel the Hologram and clean it for you. (The cleaning won't matter being it will be used for testing)  pm me your shipping address and I will drop it in the mail on monday.

Edit: FYI the pit is half inch round

Very generous of you, it is greatly appreciated! PM sent  Smiley

I would buy one for sure. I think coins that are not made from precious metals are useless and I rarely buy them unless Casascius made them.

Noted, I think silver is the way to go then if there aren't any objections.

"Initial Success or Total Failure" seems like detrimental wording for your cause  Lips sealed Maybe.. "No Surrender. Never Give Up."

I appreciate the suggestion, the phrase is near and dear to my heart and very relevant to an EOD coin but I will think about replacing it with something else. If anyone else has any opinions on this it would be appreciated.

With you all the way here EOD

Love the innovation. Just need to make sure that the desire for the wire doesn't stop the requirements of a cryptocoin ie that it is tamper proof. Also need to make sure that the private key has an element of protection from environmentals from the holo ie it's near enough airtight with the wire still in place

Only other thing I can think of is if it will fit in an airtite, and as such if ANACS would grade

But the wire is what sets this coin apart, so do all you can to keep it within the design

Hope you can tick all the boxes. This sounds like a unique offering. Hope to see it produced, and get one in my (gloved) hand. Any help I can offer, just shout up.

Thank you!  Grin

The wire is definitely a complex part of this project. I will have to make sure the depth is perfect so that the holo is flush and that I can get enough friction/adhesion that the holo will be torn when the pin is pulled.

In regard to getting it graded I am not sure. Does ANACS grade coins that are non round? I am not sure of the exact dimensions at this point but ANACS grading requirements might factor into that decision.

I hope I can too, I will definitely make sure it is done correctly or not do it at all. I am sure I will be asking for advice along the way  Grin

Hello everyone,

So I have been kicking around the idea of making a coin for a while but haven't done so because I'm terrible at drawing but Bigtimespaghetti has graciously volunteered to help me with this project! This thread's purpose is to see if there is enough interest to actually go ahead with this project as well as take any helpful suggestions to create the best coin possible for the community.

Basic Premise: I really want to design and sell a coin and donate the proceeds to Wounded EOD warriors. They were amazingly helpful to both me and my family when I got blown up in Afghanistan a few years ago.

http://www.eodwarriorfoundation.org/psa

The first rough sketch by Bigtimespaghetti:

Design:

I either wanted a Tech in a bomb suit or the EOD badge (called the Crab, it is my profile picture) on the front and the EOD motto which is " Initial success or total failure." When working with things that blow up there are not many second chances.

On the back I intend to have "Pull here in case of crypto revolution" or perhaps "Bitcoin Revolution," I'm not sure which is more fitting. This will surround the hologram which can be peeled using a grenade pin system. I will be soldering a metal thread to a grenade pin that is cut short. This way the pin will not stick out too far on either side. The metal thread will then be spiraled with the hologram sealed over the top of it. When the pin is pulled the metal thread will break the adhesive. There will be a small spiral indentation on the back of the coin where the hologram will be placed so that the hologram will sit flush with the wire beneath it.

Does this grenade style redemption method interest anyone or would it be simpler and cleaner to just use "Peel in case of crypto revolution?"

For me there is a huge connection between a future with Bitcoin as the dominant currency and the political landscape and international relations with the current fiat system but I don't want to get overly political here. That combined with the EODWF donation was what has inspired this project.

If you would be interested in a coin like this please PM me or post in this thread so I can estimate if it is worth continuing forward with this project. Also, if you have any design preferences or material (silver?) I think that here would be a great place to discuss it.  Smiley

Did you post in the right section?  Cheesy

Some collectibles auctions have been posted in this section and the mods seem to be allowing it. Helps them to not get buried in the "full member account" and other unrelated auctions.

Sorry to all that missed out on this piece of crypto history.

I have replied to all PM's. Definitely some tempting offers, mostly trades for other coins, but at the moment I would prefer a fully BTC deal. I am slightly flexible on price but not in a huge rush to let this beautiful coin go so I won't accept offers that are too lowball.  Smiley
231  Economy / Collectibles / Re: WTS Casascius coins: 5 BTC loaded, 25 BTC redeemed, 5 BTC redeemed, 5 BTC blanks on: April 19, 2016, 06:35:56 PM
Any idea when you will be putting up the second redeemed 25BTC Casascius auction?
232  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] MS66 Casascius Void Coin on: April 19, 2016, 08:04:03 AM
Damn, I wish I could've afforded it...
A rather off topic question: Who is the man on the left of Mike Caldwell? Is he a big personality in the bitcoin world?

That is Erik Voorhees, you might know him as the previous owner of Satoshi Dice, now the current owner of Coinapult.  Smiley

So very tempting, I'd take this over any of the silvers because it's so rare. $3,000 for any coin is a lot though, I'm sure there are people out there with deep pockets who wouldn't think twice.

I have spent a lot of time trying to come up with a reasonable price and I think mine is very fair. It is less of a premium than the 10BTC or 0.5BTC S2 silver coins and there are far fewer Void coins. With only six known to exist it will be one of the hardest coins to get if an individual is looking for a complete Casascius set which is why I worked so hard to find one for my own collection.
233  Economy / Collectibles / [WTS] MS66 Casascius Void Coin on: April 19, 2016, 02:36:59 AM
Hello everyone,

I am looking to sell one of my Casascius Void Coins. I have two that have graded MS66, these are the only two Void Coins in existence that have graded that high. Several others have graded MS65 but I have the only two MS66. I will be keeping one for my personal collection and selling this one to a lucky buyer. In total, there are only six Void coins known to exist. They are extremely rare, especially in good condition because they were handed out to members of the press and likely lost or abused. Needless to say, this is an extremely rare coin that is for sale.

All of the provenance shown in the picture below will be included. This includes the Void Coin, a signed statement from Ben Bledsoe (producer of The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin) stating that this coin was featured in the documentary, a picture of him with Mike Caldwell, and the foam hand that he was wearing in the picture.

This is a must have for any collector. I doubt you will see any more pop up for sale in the near future especially at this grade and with provenance like this. Don't miss out!

Feel free to post or PM any questions or offers. I am looking for ~7BTC. The coin will be shipped from the US and shipping cost will be negotiated.

edit: not sure why Bitcointalk is refusing to embed the second picture...? Figured it out, the image was over the size limit so I embeded a lower quality picture. The higher quality can be viewed here: https://i.imgur.com/ZEbjm7V.jpg

Have the super delux gold been mailed out yet? If so any idea on when they should be arriving to the US? Can't wait to get mine  Grin

It was packed last night eventually. I will post tomorrow so if you want tracking just ask me Wednesday.

Was a hard weekend making the coins. Was even harder having to wrap them up and send them to other people  Tongue

Awesome! I was just thinking about them today and realized I had no idea what the eta on them was. It definitely must be hard letting go of so many beautiful coins...  Cry

Wow, clearly I am late to the party  Undecided

I would love to be able to pick up one of the 25 BTC's as well if something can be worked out. I would be fine with an auction since it seems there is so much interest.
