Lol 20M? Dude as i can see in the client (in the debug)
It was a hyperbolic example for effect. ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) But thanks for the detailed answer... that is exactly the kind of info I was looking to hear. Thx.

Yes, the 16 coins/block reward with a 30 second block target and a total minting of just 133 million total coins aims to bring value to the crypto market again. We do not want this coin to be a pump and dump victim.
With the Fair launch Block - Coin Structure of
Block 0-200 = 0 coins Block 200-400 = 2 coins Block 400-800 = 4 coins Block 800-1600 = 8 coins Blocks from 1601 = 16 coins
we further make sure that no big player can just come in and mine all the coins at once while all others are still getting started.
And we have mentioned the sample .conf file so people can have their .conf and .bat files ready even before the launch and start mining as soon as the client it available for download tomorrow at 9.30PM PDT.
What was the starting difficulty, since 1600 seconds is not really long at all, and many/most crapcoins were more like four blocks per second than one block per second, so maybe 1600 blocks is really closer to 400 seconds than 1600 seconds? is there a plot somewhere showing what fraction of the coins were mined the first minute, hour, day, week, month? -MarkM- VERY good question. If there at 20M coins already mined and owned by the first 5 people...

Soooo... what stops someone from taking their 26Mhs out of the network for 1hr and letting difficulty drop. Then, throwing it back in after the drop?
|
|
|
So, I pulled Valuecoin-qt, got it installed and running.
However, I don't see any active connections to the network at all.
When I go in to the debug console and type "getpeerinfo" I'm getting nothing back.
Did I miss a valuecoin.conf file creation where I need to specify peers?

quick note about online wallet: it doesn't support VLC yet. those navbar links are all the same for all of my pools so sorry for the confusion.
No problem. Thanks for being on top of things... gives me confidence. As far as solo-mining. What would be the benefit here?
|
|
|
About that online wallet service, its the pool owner's own project. I don't think he has that service for VLC yet. And its not been updated since some time. So please ignore that.
As for the shares not getting recognized, its a temporary lag in the pool. Probably due to the sudden rise in the hashrate.
But all your shares will be accounted for and paid as soon as the server catches up.
but if you are too worried, I would suggest solo mining.
if you haven't solo mined before, just tell me and i will post all the required steps to start in 5 minutes.
Thanks for the prompt response. Seems like a fair explanation, so I can wait an hour or two to see if it catches up. I have not solo-mined before, but am willing to give it a shot. So yes, please, do pass on those directions. BUT, that being said, I feel like pools are better for people, in general, so I'll throw my 10M in to the pool for a while and see what it does for the greater good.

The site points to an online wallet service that does not support VLC.
Not sure that makes much sense.
Any comment?
I am sorry what wallet service are you talking about here? The DOWNLOAD NOW link downloads a ValueCoin wallet. Which is installed on your PC. With that client you can solo mine or use the address in the pool to get paid. This... ![](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2FEzayYLA.png&t=663&c=Y2HGe2U1fYD3UA) No VLC wallets there. And, then this concerns me... ![](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2F7DQ0suA.png&t=663&c=-YnVO6XnrbSlYw) You can see form snapshot 1, I'm pumping hashes in... but the pool is not recog. Thoughts?

I say have a separate thread.
I happen to think it is a viable currency and, while not on the same level as BTC, it is real.
Having two threads would clean up the BTC pool thread and make people better find what they want.
I don't see a downside.

I solved this problem.
Apparently there's a conflict with xubuntu 12.10 and AMD catalyst 12.10 or greater.
I had to install xubuntu 12.04 and install catalyst 12.8.
This is extremely helpful... couldn't find a solution for this with xubuntu, so I gave up. Thanks for posting back your results Frozen. Hate to ask such a dumb question, but where does one acquire 12.04 and 12.8?

xinit
I didn't have xinit running. Man, it has been a long day.

I've been all over these forums, and it appears others have had similar issue... but all the solutions they get do not appear to work for me. So, here is the backstory. I'm using this guide: http://www.distrogeeks.com/install-cgminer-latest-ubuntu/Running on Ubuntu pickaxe@Pickaxe:~$ cat /proc/version Linux version 3.5.0-17-generic (buildd@roseapple) (gcc version 4.7.2 (Ubuntu/Linaro 4.7.2-2ubuntu1) ) #28-Ubuntu SMP Tue Oct 9 19:32:08 UTC 2012
I have the 7950s installed pickaxe@Pickaxe:~$ sudo aticonfig --lsa * 0. 01:00.0 AMD Radeon HD 7900 Series 1. 02:00.0 AMD Radeon HD 7900 Series 2. 05:00.0 AMD Radeon HD 7900 Series
They appear to be configured correctly. pickaxe@Pickaxe:~$ sudo aticonfig --adapter=all --initial Found fglrx primary device section Found fglrx primary device section Found fglrx primary device section Using /etc/X11/xorg.conf Saving back-up to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.fglrx-7 pickaxe@Pickaxe:~$
However... pickaxe@Pickaxe:~$ export DISPLAY=:0 pickaxe@Pickaxe:~$ xhost + xhost: unable to open display ":0" pickaxe@Pickaxe:~$ sudo aticonfig --adapter=all --odgt ERROR - X needs to be running to perform AMD Overdrive(TM) commands pickaxe@Pickaxe:~$
And cgminer does not see any of them. pickaxe@Pickaxe:~$ cgminer -n [2013-04-18 14:16:18] CL Platform 0 vendor: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [2013-04-18 14:16:18] CL Platform 0 name: AMD Accelerated Parallel Processing [2013-04-18 14:16:18] CL Platform 0 version: OpenCL 1.2 AMD-APP (1016.4) [2013-04-18 14:16:18] Error -1: Getting Device IDs (num) [2013-04-18 14:16:18] clDevicesNum returned error, no GPUs usable [2013-04-18 14:16:18] 0 GPU devices max detected pickaxe@Pickaxe:~$
Where did I go wrong? Help would be appreciated.

no speed difference, however i find the management of cgminer much easier in linux, especially when talking about backup pools and such. also, along with linux comes the benefit of being able to throw the whole thing on a 8gb jump drive and getting rid of the physical HD for maximum power savings.
This. Exactly this. I've got a pendrivelinux instance of Ubuntu server 12 on a stic that boots wonderfully. Just wanted to make sure. Thanks guys... This place is a fantastic source of expertise.

I have access to both on my rig - have not bothered to do a bench test yet...
Is one faster or better than the other?
thoughts?

Wouldn't be surprised at all if their website was just a farm for emails/password.
If they're lucky, someone might be using the same email and password on their online wallet.
This might unfortunately be true; I had an unauthorized access alert on my Steam and several other online accounts.. Well, that is why you would use a tool like LastPass and generate a password randomly.

Try every slot, with both cards plugged in till the board reads the both cards at the same time. Other than that, maybe someone else with this board can chip in their thoughts.
Try another slot and see if it gets detected. There's always the remote chance the second card is dead. I ran into that 3 weeks ago - wasted 6 hours operating on the assumption that the PCIe GEN3 slots were acting up. It wasn't until I gave up and tried the card in my rig at home that I find out that the card was DOA. Nope, I can get the card to work if I move it to different slots. OK, here is a "key" to this image: Red := I have been told the card will not work here. Have not tried. Blue := Open slot, I have been told that it should work. Green := The card is currently working. ![](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2FLtutFq7.png&t=663&c=C8vXVWujr6mhMA) So, I thought it might be an x4 or x16 issue... you think that matters?
