What's this hack in the news now on BSC?
222  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why NEM (XEM) Crashing? Scam? on: March 15, 2021, 04:35:33 PM
Has Symbol XYM been released yet and how does one buy if it isn't listed on CoinGecko Huh

NEM has been established for years and has a high ranking on CMC, Symbol on the other hand could be a newer faster chain version of NEM but be in the lower ranks due to starting off new with a lower marketcap.

After Symbol been released is it better to put your money into NEM or Symbol or none?
223  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which Altcoins shall I Buy Now!!!!!!!? on: March 15, 2021, 04:16:02 PM
Okay I just went in $500 into Coti as the word 'Coti' is the most frequently used word in this thread for the alts from the list, most people on this thread are vouching for this Coti project. Either I am absolutely stupid by following possible Coti shillers in this thread who bought Coti last year at a much cheaper price than me and I risk lose $500 or these are genuine helpful Coti replies from members here trying to help me get into a undervalued gem project. Only time will tell I guess  Grin

Which other altcoin shall I put the other $500 in  Cool?
224  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which Altcoins shall I Buy Now!!!!!!!? on: March 13, 2021, 11:53:51 AM
To be honest I dont know about any of those and I myself am trying to figure that out - which sector will be hot next.
I think that projects who are developing solutions for ETH txs fees or replacing the network will be hot in the next months, but i have to pin point them.

A lot of depends how useful will be project in future. It is necessary to create demand in token that its price would grow in future.
There  ecological projects. They help to protect nature and fight with global warming.
https://moss.earth/blog/ here is written what have already been done.

I think that in future the demand in ecological projects will be big, because it is very important to protect a nature.

Which altcoins are ecological projects?
225  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why NEM (XEM) Crashing? Scam? on: March 13, 2021, 11:31:09 AM
Price of NEM is not growing upto the expectations of ita holders because they are seeing other coins are producing 100x in this bull run so they are calling it as scam. I used to have NEW and some tokens but it became worthless in 2018 so I just trashed the wallet files and never wanted to have them again.

Can a coin be labelled a scam because it hasn't performed 100x like other coins in a bull run. I thought in a bull market all coins even dodgy coins like Bitcoin Cash at least get a 1x or 100% return right?

Lost half of its value.
It is normal in crypto market. Bitcoin lost about half of its value in March 2020.

Quote
The last posts on the NEM board on this forum saying its a scam? Why people calling it a scam?
When they lost money, even they are only temporary lost, they said any coin causes it is a scam coin.

Quote
Is there a swap to newer blockchain Symbol (XYM)?

If buyers buy the NEM dip now then will these NEM coins be worthless when Symbol coin comes out? Can buyers that bought NEM today swap their NEM for Symbol?

Or is this a hard fork or something where NEM holders get a free 1:1 airdrop of Symbol coins  Huh
No. There is no swap from NEM to XYM. People can only claim XYM from the NEM they hold in the wallet at the time of snapshot. It was done yesterday. The mainnet of XYM will be launched on 15 March and there are few exchanges support the claim and will list the XYM on their exchanges like Kucoin

What's the max supply of the new Symbol coin?
Check its specifications on https://symbolplatform.com/xym

Quote
Is it crashed because NEM holders think their NEM coins be worthless?
It will still have a valuen, not worthless.
The deep falls happen around airdrops with XRP and other altcoins in this year.

Bitcoin dropped 50% last march 2020 because of the Corona Dump black swan event. But bitcoin did not lose 50% value before the bitcoin cash hard fork back in Aug 2017 so why NEM lost 50%?

So just confirm this is a hard-fork not a swap meaning NEM & Symbol are competing against each other?

If so what's so good about Symbol in compared to NEM and why would a buyer still buy NEM instead of the newer Symbol?

226  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why NEM (XEM) Crashing? Scam? on: March 13, 2021, 11:27:29 AM
A snapshot happened yesterday and anyone who holds XEM will get XYM 1:1. I don't know the max supply though but I think it's going to be more or less the same? I don't know anything about swap but I think it's just an airdrop for XEM holder.

I was really surprised, just the other day the price was still around $0.6 price range. To be honest I don't really know what's going on but there's a lot of FUD saying XEM is becoming a scam. Others are saying like it's going to get abandon so the devs can move on to the next project which is XYM.

So just to confirm this is a hard-fork, not a swap to a newer chain coin? Why im seeing posts in NEM reddit saying swaps?

Okay snapshot happened yesterday so if I buy NEM today I'm not entitled to 1:1 symbol coins?

So the best advice for new buyers from today is to wait till Symbol release to buy it or is it hard fork like Bitcoin & Bitcoin Cash where NEM and Symbol are competing against each other?
227  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which Altcoins shall I Buy Now!!!!!!!? on: March 13, 2021, 01:37:42 AM
There's over 6000 different altcoins listen on CoinMarketCap!

Can we assume the top ranked 200 coins have the least risk out of the 6-7000 other coins?

Obviously the further you go down the coin list the lower the marketcap meaning higher risk right?

So why people mentioning coins that are ranked 478 or ranked 876 or ranked 1785 or ranked 4872 or whatever low rank coin they talk of here on this thread?

For a coin to be in the top 200 out of 7000 is a achievement of its own correct? Similar to the stock market S&P 500 right? Can there be 200 different real world use cases for crypto? There will coins doing the same thing but still have a top rankings similar to Coca Cola and PepsiCo in the S&P 500. From my list which coins are unique?

For example Enjin NFT wasn't ranked in the top 100 back in January, it was ranked 112 or something but still in the top 200, but look at Enjin price now  Shocked

Yes I understand the top 10 coins are the least risk but have the lowest returns, For example I cant see Cardano ADA doing a 10x now to flip Ethereum off its no.2 rank. Also ADA has 45 Billion in supply, much more than the coins I listed in 1st post. I cant see a 10x to $10 with a 45 Billion Max supply with ADA otherwise it becomes Overvalued Lips sealed

229  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: New To Gemini Exchange, Missing Trading Pairs help on: March 13, 2021, 12:05:32 AM
From here: https://www.gemini.com/blog/gemini-live-in-the-uk
I see:

Quote
With GBP in your account on the Gemini Mobile App or on your desktop, you can buy cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Basic Attention Token (BAT), Dai (DAI), Ether (ETH), Litecoin (LTC),
ChainLink (LINK), Orchid (OXT), Amp (AMP), Pax Gold (PAXG), and Compound (COMP).

So it looks like you are limited to certain pairs for now. Send their support a message, as a rule they are not good at fixing problems but are good at answering questions like this. Or at least their US support is good.
They are also responsive on twitter.

-Dave

I cant do limit order on those coins above except for btc & eth.

So it sucks for UK customers and when do you think they will allow full trading for UK customers?
230  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / New To Gemini Exchange, Missing Trading Pairs help on: March 12, 2021, 01:41:42 PM
Hi from UK here.

How do I trade Dai for USD on Gemini ActiveTrader?

I see the pair is available on this exchange at:
https://www.coingecko.com/en/exchanges/gemini

Why cant I see all of the trading pairs in ActiveTrader interface?

I can see the all trading pairs in the easy exchange interface however I cant do limit orders on easy.

Am I restricted to sell my Dai for £GBP first then I'm only restricted to market orders with £GBP on the easy interface because I'm a UK customer?

Anyone from UK having similar problems with Gemini?
231  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Beginner to NFT's help on: March 12, 2021, 01:03:13 PM
So NFT's as a whole can replace traditional crypto because a NFT token I get today wont be the same NFT token I get in 10 years time lets say? So basically they are like real estate houses where each property is different but not liquid in the marketplace correct?

For example I receive 1 BTC 10 years ago and its the same as receiving 1 fresh new BTC from the miners today so same coin no change but very liquid.
232  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Beginner to NFT's help on: March 11, 2021, 11:19:37 PM
Okay so there's 2 entrances to NFT's?:

- Underlying Blockchain side such as Chilliz, Enjin, Mana and such.

- Artists that uses the above blockchains to marketplace their art?

How do you buy brand new art from Artists directly instead of buying it pre-owned from the NFT art marketplace?

Where do you find good artists to contact directly?

How many artists are entering the NFT marketplace daily? Will we end up like 6000 nft artists like we have ended up with over 6000 altcoins Shocked? There's millions of ways and forms and styles of representing art from simple black & white pics to 3D animations. So we gonna get NFT artists for each style?

Just to confirm NFT arts are illiquid like real estate meaning if I wanted to see a piece of digital arts I have to wait for a buyer who wants it?

NFT blockchains such as Chilliz, flow, Enjin and Mana are liquid tokens that can be sold anytime without waiting for a buyer?

Collectibles means collecting because its a hobby or passion that you keep for life not for profit investments right? Like Pokémon trading cards released in the 90s how many will there be to collect if there's too many collectibles being released daily  Shocked

233  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Beginner to NFT's help on: March 11, 2021, 10:03:38 PM
Hi,

What does it mean something to be Non Fungible?

Are NFT's just digital art/pics like gifs or jpegs or is it more to it than that and if so what are they?

Gifs and jpegs pics can be copied and pasted a million times right with no degradation in picture quality because its digital that is same 1's and 0's in the copies.

The original Mona Lisa painting is really valuable because it cant be copied & pasted with 100% accuracy like digital art can.

So why NFT's gaining popularity and price?

Are NFT's just original uncompressed pics/photos/art files created by the artist on a computer like in Microsoft paint or something?
234  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Atomic Swaps or Decentralized Exchanges? on: March 11, 2021, 05:45:51 PM
Which atomic swap service is the best out there that allows you to sell your popular common crypto's for dai?

Are decentralized exchanges same as atomic swaps?
Decentralized exchange out there are totally not the same as atomic swap/Binance Dex cause DEX exchange allow people to perform exchange of crypto currency without surrender the control of crypto to any exchange or swap service provider which is not what atomic swap executes.

Do both of these services have to comply with tax regulations and KYC? If not then can governments ban them or shut them down?
No, they (genuine decentralized exchange) operate independently.

Which is the best decentralized exchange out there?
Uniswap
Mdex
Pancakeswap
Vitex
You can check coingecko for there list

Theres earlier posts in this thread that say DEX's are Atomic Swaps because DEX use Atomic Swap service but now you mentioned they are both different services  Huh

Just to confirm Atomic Swaps are Centralized or Decentralized?

I'm probably guessing that the Binance "DEX"[1] is the biggest? But yea, they're mostly more of non-custodial than "decentralized", because they're definitely not decentralized. "DEX" is unfortunately more of a marketing term. No KYC as far as I know though.

Following up next down the list, I'm pretty sure Uniswap[2] is the second biggest. Obviously, no BTC because everything will be ERC20 tokens, and take note that the gas fees on ETH are tremendous.

[1] https://binance.org/
[2] https://uniswap.org/

Sorry for the newbie question but I cant seem to see Binance Dex in the list below:
https://www.coingecko.com/en/dex

Can I trade erc20 tokens on the Binance chain to save on fees? Is there like a emulation or hybrid or virtual machine service for eth erc20 token on binance smart chain to save on gas fees or the only way in the future is Eth tokens/erc20 projects convert their coins/projects to native binance smart chain tokens if somehow Eth 2.0 launch is screwed up or delayed?

Wrapped bitcoin is erc20 bitcoin right?

If you are interested in bitcoins on the Ethereum network, then study my 2 topics

Decentralized Tokenized BTC

Decentralized bitcoin trading
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5290331

You carry out any interactions with the binance blockchain through this bridge.
https://www.binance.org/en/bridge
For me personally, Binance Chain is the same Binance, only without the KYC.
There are big problems with decentralization, but in terms of speed and commissions, it is better than Ethereum.

Lets say for example bitcoin hits 100k and I have 1 whole bitcoin to sell in a decentralize way.

How much would the gas fee be when I tokenize convert that 100k bitcoin, will the gas fee be high like 10k or something?

After tokenized conversion or wrapping up that 1 btc, then I have to pay gas fees again on the decentralize exchange if I sell it for stable coins? So how much much approx I will lose in fees when selling a 100k btc in a time when Eth network is busy?

Is there a video guide on how to do this on the BSC for cheap fees? Has there been known cases of BSC freezing your crypto because you say BSC is same as normal centralized Binance except KYC meaning BSC is not really decentralized right?

Lastly how does your way compared to Bisq, is it better, more liquidity and cheaper?

Is there a tokenized BSC bitcoin?
Learn to use gastracker
https://etherscan.io/gastracker
The DAI smart contract does not have the ability to block coins, I wrote about other stablecoins here
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5247581
You want to save 3 cents, and I'm talking about decentralization and the importance of maintaining control over your money.

If you want to trade on BSC, then use the bridge
https://www.binance.org/en/bridge
Next, use the analogs of uniswap in the BSC network,
https://julswap.com/#/swap
https://exchange.pancakeswap.finance/#/swap

Do you know if Coinbase can freeze/block USDC stable coin in USDC wallets?

Okay the bridge will allow erc20 Eth tokens to be traded for cheaper fees on the BSC?

235  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which Altcoins shall I Buy Now!!!!!!!? on: March 11, 2021, 03:16:20 PM
Is Mdex decentralized exchange better than Uniswap? I ask because its ranked no.1 DEX according to this link:

https://www.coingecko.com/en/dex

So is Mdex coin a good investment?

Are exchange tokens just IEO's? Wasn't this the trend back in 2019 where IEO's were hot and why is it coming back now in 2021? Is it because of Coinbase recent IPO for shares in the stock market?

Decentralized exchanges cant do a IPO offering so how can DEX's follow the Coinbase bullish IPO mania  Huh

Binance is not doing an IPO so why Binance coin going up in price? Stock market valuation and crypto valuation are separate correct?

236  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Which Altcoins shall I Buy Now!!!!!!!? on: March 11, 2021, 01:04:32 AM
These alts that have millions in supply:

- Leo Token

- Bitmax Token

- Mdex

- cUni

- GateToken

- OriginTrail

- Utrust

- Hathor

The following alts have at least a billion in supply:

- Fantom

- Stacks

- Polymath Network

- Sand

- Fetch.ai

- Coti

- Ultra

- RSK Infrastructure Network

- District0x

All coins above are within the top 200 rankings.

Which coins will make me a millionaire on a $1000 investment Cool?

I'm looking for coins that will more likely end up having a real world usage good fundamentals and also have a active social media presence that has lots of followers/subscribers where the followers/subs get updated regularly from the project development team. I don't want coins where their social media pages has been dead or dry or no content in the past winter bear market and suddenly come back into life in this current bull market which is suspicious Roll Eyes

Which coins would you invest your $1k in and why?
237  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Atomic Swaps or Decentralized Exchanges? on: March 10, 2021, 08:18:40 PM
Okay these DEX's are either using Ethereum chain or Binance Smart Chain correct? Binance chain will have the cheapest trading fees until Eth 2.0 comes out right?
But those that are built on top of Ethereum can not be called "DEX" because you can't really trade cryptocurrencies there. All those that I've seen are "token swaps" meaning you can swap a token built on ETH with a token that is built on ETH! You can't trader for example BTC/LTC there.
Binance is also mostly relying on their centralized platform so it is entirely different than any other DEX and I wouldn't call it DEX to begin with since it has limitations and centralization.

The day when DEX's introduce KYC will be the day when they dig their own graves as KYC defeats the purpose of DEX's.
It would be their death because they weren't decentralized to begin with.

Quote
When you say centralised points in the network like connect to server or paying fees to a 3rd party or middle man or miner then can these points freeze your crypto or confiscate it? Has there been known cases of this before?
Not that I know of.

Quote
Everybody knows Switzerland is a privacy friendly and tax friendly country.
Shall I assume all these DEX's are based in such friendly countries so friendly governments cant put pressure on them?
If you can say something is "based in somewhere" then it is not decentralized. Can you say bitcoin is based in anywhere? No, that is why bitcoin is decentralized.
A true DEX is 100% peer to peer and doesn't have any servers, no middle man and no company to based in any country. In a real DEX you simply find another peer and make your trade with them only paying network fees. A real DEX can never be shut down just like how they can't shut down torrent network or bitcoin, etc.

When you say paying network fees, do you mean paying to the miners?

Isn't most of bitcoin #hashrate, over 50% of it is based in China that is not globally equally shared. From your argument that means bitcoin is not truly decentralized right because the Chinese communist government can take over the mining farms there correct and do a 51% attack against the Bitcoin network?
238  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Atomic Swaps or Decentralized Exchanges? on: March 10, 2021, 07:42:38 PM
Another newbie question I have is can the fees on BSC become high like Eth gas fees now when Bsc network becomes congested like Eth now?
The volume on BSC is pretty high already and have exceeded ethereum's daily transaction at one point but the fees were not affected.

BSC has 21 nodes running right now which means it's more centralized than Ethereum. That also means they can control the fees. If you are going to scroll through CZ's twitter, you'll probably find a tweet that mentioned the number of times the transaction fees were reduced.

Do you know how many nodes Ethereum has and is it the matter of the more nodes there's is in a network the more decentralize it is?

BitTorrent P2P network has millions of global users connected to each other. Can we say everyday torrent users that are just downloading the latest movies are nodes of the torrent network?

Lastly do you know if BSC in the future plan to increase the node count to more than 21? Because 21 nodes is too low and can be easily taken over by hackers or government because its a small amount to take over the network.
239  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: De-Fi Protocol Failures Questions on: March 10, 2021, 03:18:53 PM
All th stablecoins seem to keep changing value. Atm I think dai was 99 cents when I last checked it (in comparison with usdt). I'm not sure what caused the divergence though since it was over a cent ahead for a while.

Smart contracts are dependent on the ethereum network also at the moment. There are plans to build converters and projects working on it that may allow for currencies to be converted if a chain dies.

When you say plans to build converters and projects that allows currencies to be converted if a chain dies.... Do you mean fiat currencies be converted or stable coins?

You should go read what happened with DAI on the Black Thursday (a.k.a March 12) where the entire market crashed.

Here is a start: https://blog.makerdao.com/the-market-collapse-of-march-12-2020-how-it-impacted-makerdao/

- If Eth screws up on Eth 2.0 launch or doesn't release Eth 2.0 or gets flipped by BSC or whatever causing Eth price and erc20 coins to crash to 0 then can that cause a protocol failure that can cause Dai to crash to 0 too or corrupt or breach existing running smart contracts at the time?

- If MakerDao coin crashes to 0 then will this drag down Dai to 0 too?
It also uses other crypto as collateral. Most people would need to repay their DAI or add to their loan. If everything crashes to 0, DAI is pretty much gone.

- Does smart contracts have a programmed algorithm in there that automatically protects users from losses if the above happens or can smart contracts detect Eth market collapse like mentioned above? Its called 'Smart' contract for a reason right?
Read the article I linked above. But yes, they do have systems ready to liquidate loans that are underwater or auction them.

- Can buggy code in a running live smart contract be patched up on the fly?
It depends. There are proxy contracts that use the implementation of another contracs and can pointed to another one on the fly. Others that are imutable would require a full migration (so everyone moving to the new contract).

In the last year march 2020 Corona dump I see Dai reaching high as $1.06 however I see Dai going low as 0.92 cents back in late november 2019.

So Dai goes up in price when market crashes however what caused Dai to dump back in Nov 2019?

Hi coming back here.

If the SEC in the upcoming weeks rules out and say MakerDao is a illegal unregistered security then will this collapse Dai to $0 even though its decentralized? The project team that created MakerDao, where are they based?

[moderator's note: consecutive posts merged]
240  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / De-Fi Protocol/Governance Failures Questions on: March 10, 2021, 12:33:15 AM
For example lets look at a stable coin Dai:

Its suppose to be a decentralized stable coin from MakerDao that totally relies on Ethereum smart contracts to keeps its value stable and pegged to $1 each.

Questions are:

- If Eth screws up on Eth 2.0 launch or doesn't release Eth 2.0 or gets flipped by BSC or whatever causing Eth price and erc20 coins to crash to 0 then can that cause a protocol failure that can cause Dai to crash to 0 too or corrupt or breach existing running smart contracts at the time?

- Does smart contracts have a programmed algorithm in there that automatically protects users from losses if the above happens or can smart contracts detect Eth market collapse like mentioned above? Its called 'Smart' contract for a reason right?

- Can buggy code in a running live smart contract be patched up on the fly?

- If MakerDao coin crashes to 0 then will this drag down Dai to 0 too?

- Decentralized Governance, what is this? When we think of Governments we think centralized point of power and control that sets out rules. How does decentralized governance work and where does this type of governance gets it data inputted from to set rules? Can decentralized governance be managed by Ai where independent smart Ai is smart enough to make its own rules & program algorithms without requiring external data input to make it work?

- When you guys think this whole De-Fi ecosystem will mature that runs near 100% uptime with no probs on the network that will replace the traditional existing centralized old banking system were on now?
