Noob question: what about supporting the satoshi client wallets in Multibit? I don't know how hard this is to do, so if it's a noob question forgive me

It's like saying "gold is a get rich quick scheme"

2263  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is there any hope for a random guy with a normal computer? on: December 06, 2012, 02:40:13 PM
Bitcoin is not a get rich quick scheme

2264  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Storing and segregating Bitcoins on: December 05, 2012, 09:37:25 PM
The coins that the standard client shows are the one in the wallet.dat file inside appdata/bitcoin

If you want to have another wallet.dat you must first remove that one, so the client will create a new one. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BACKUP OF IT! Yes, you said you backuped on the USB stick, it's fine, just make sure you never lose it!

2265  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin wallet unable to sync... on: December 05, 2012, 09:35:06 PM
Use the MultiBit client, much much better and no need to download over 5GB of blockchain

This said, what do you mean it "is unable to sync"? Probably it's downloading all the blocks and it take like more than a day (that's why i strongly suggest you to use a lightweight client like Multibit)

2267  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: some problems on: December 05, 2012, 05:21:02 PM
1)VLC think .dat files are file it can open, just ignore this.

2)No, you don't open files with the standard client. You have to put the wallet.dat in the right folder (appdata/bitcoin on Windows) and then start the client, it will then read it and show you the coins in it. (or add -datadir blablabla in a shortcut and set a different folder)

3)Don't use the standard client, it isn't exactly... meant for normal use... use a client like MultiBit, much better interface, it let you open a wallet file exactly like every other software on this planet, it doesn't have to synchronize and download the full blockchain...

2268  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My first experience with bitcoin was NOT positive :( on: December 04, 2012, 03:11:05 PM
It is if you are a newbie.

Yes, if you already know everything about bitcoin then it's ok. We use it and we survive with it, but it's far far far from being "decent"

Just copy-pasting the interface and features of multibit in the standard client would make it much much better.

Consider that for a newbie to find a lightweight client like multibit takes a lot of time, they first go on the bitcoin website and find the standard client. Maybe later they discover the forum and inside it a thread speaking about lightweight clients and different interfaces. But probably after they spent more than a day downloading a blockchain wich, for them, is useless

2269  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My first experience with bitcoin was NOT positive :( on: December 04, 2012, 02:57:58 PM
My opinion? He is right!

The current situation of the bitcoin clients and their interface is that they sucks. The standard client is not easy for a newbie to use. It's interface sucks, it automatically create a wallet no-one-know-where (yeah in appdata bitcoin but you need to search for this info!), it automatically download the whole chain even if a newbie don't even know what it is and don't need it since he will only run the client for 5minutes, do a transaction and close it.

Multibit? It's much better but why it cannot open normal wallets? I have no idea...

Here in Italy if a casino website isn't registered and have the authorization/license/whatelse to operate in Italy then it's automatically CENSORED
2271  Economy / Speculation / Re: Stable Bitcoin Values = Good For Bitcoin. Value Increases / Decreases = bad on: December 02, 2012, 06:06:56 PM
Saying that stable is good is bullshit.

BTC price depend on how many ppl use it. More ppl use bitcoin, more ppl buy them, price increase
If price is stable then bitcoin use isn't growing. Wich is not good as far as i know.

This said, btc price depend on speculation also, so maybe i am totally wrong  Smiley
2272  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] Donate to Wikipedia with Bitcoin on: December 02, 2012, 03:15:38 PM

We find out that a second Foundation has existed secretly all along and that Satoshi is really a robot called R. Daneel Olivaw.  Grin
