2301  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: has bitcoin achieved its goal? on: December 07, 2020, 03:52:33 AM
Bitcoin has accomplished a lot over the last few years and deserves a lot of credit for it but has not achieved its goal yet.  Bitcoin is set to achieve global protection whereby everyone will accept its use in terms of payment methods and apply it to their business and transactions.

Bitcoin as a payment method hasn't got much traction. On the other hand, I would even say that use of Bitcoin for payment purposes have gone down over the last 2-3 years. Currently it is being mostly used as a speculative investment asset. So I would say that Bitcoin was originally designed as a currency by Satoshi Nakamoto in 2008, but it ended up as a investment asset (similar to bullion).
2302  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Enough of bounty scam, you can help to stop it too. on: December 07, 2020, 03:42:58 AM
This is a topic that is very important for bounty hunters especially newbies.Wisdom is needed to detect bounty scam, knowing better about project .
Yes, this topic is of little help to bounty hunters who have just started their hunt, but they should also research a lot more through several project sites and websites as well as on social media projects because it will also help them personally, including reading white papers as well urgent.

In the end, there is not going to be any bounty campaign which has a 100% guarantee for payment (unless they use escrow system, and do their payments using Ethereum or Bitcoin). The only thing you can do is to weed out risky projects, by flagging suspicious ones. But given that the average success rate for ICO right now is around 4% to 5%, don't expect good payments from every bounty campaign that you participate in.
2303  Economy / Economics / Re: I lost my job, how about you guys? on: December 07, 2020, 03:32:29 AM
Unfortunately, the pandemic affected all of us negatively, we have come to the level of losing our jobs. some of us were laid off. we have to try to make money from our seat at this time, but how?

If you are laid off from your work, then you have two options:

1. Spend a few months in improving your skill set, so that you may be able to land a decent job after that
2. Do freelancing, which may provide you financial support until you are able to get a full-time job.

I would definitely prefer the first option, because unless you have very good coding or programming skills, freelancing jobs can be difficult to get and can be low paying. The only catch is that you need to dip in to your savings, to survive.
2304  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-12-02} Most PayPal customers are willing to pay with Bitcoin on: December 07, 2020, 03:21:23 AM
I think this has more to do with PayPal's intent (so it appears) to create actual Bitcoin wallets within the platform, so determining the demand for on-chain transactions will help push that decision on.

You're absolutely right it's not YET Bitcoin payments, but this is probably true for most Bitcoin payments today, anyway.

In case they create Bitcoin wallets for each user, then it may help to eradicate most of the criticism they are facing right now. But I would rather say that the criticism is unfounded. For most people, it doesn't matter. Obviously we always say that as long as we don't have the private keys, those are not our coins. But for the less tech savvy people out there, this is exactly how they want to deal with Bitcoin. Also, other Bitcoin payment processors such as BitPay are doing the same.
2305  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Taxation of 30% on gains from Bitcoin investment? on: December 07, 2020, 03:11:46 AM
More than two dozen posts and none of them on the subject. I am a resident of India, and most of the cryptocurrency users are actually paying 30% tax on their gains from cryptocurrency right now. So this is not going to make much difference. A few of the users have classified their gains as "long term capital gains", which would enable them to pay a lower tax rate (20% in case the investment is more than three years old). But this is a very risky move, as the government of India hasn't clarified whether the investment in cryptocurrency qualifies for the LTCG tax. If any complications arise later, these users will get a notice from the IT department.
2306  Economy / Economics / Re: Paypal bought up to 70% of all the newly mined bitcoin recently on: December 06, 2020, 04:41:41 PM
Crypto community seems to be divided into two parties in this paypal discussion.

One party says that it is not good to rely one these corporations (which other party doesn't deny) and we should focus on making bitcoin valid all by ourselves without these companies getting involved (other party disagrees), while the other party says it is awesome that paypal decided to join (first party doesn't disagree) and we should encourage them and other bigger parties to get more involved with crypto (first party disagrees).

So, there is a ying yang situation going on in the crypto world where the main topic is that yes it is good that big corporations are involved now, but some say they shouldn't be the biggest party in crypto world while others do not see any problem with it as long as they make a profit.

Everyone is free to have their opinion. And I am fine as long as PayPal is not forcing anyone to move their coins to the PP platform. And regarding the critics, I don't understand their issue. No one is forcing them to use PayPal. If they don't have any issue in using various cryptocurrency exchanges, then they should not complain against PayPal as well. Because in both the instances, the private keys are not provided to the users.
2307  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: December 06, 2020, 01:32:36 PM
Today's match was won by Iyer and pandya an absolute stellar performance by both of them. After virat kohli left I felt the match has now tilted towards the Australian side but these two changed the game and won the match and series for India.

Natrajan has proven consistently that he can perform in any wicket. Great bowling by him today also. This guy needs to be part of the A team.

Bowlers such as Saini and Siraj are given too many opportunities and they have failed for most part. Now the selectors should give chance to players such as Natarajan. He doesn't have any powerful backers (unlike the case for both Saini and Siraj, both of whom play for RCB and enjoy unlimited support from Virat Kohli), but he has proven multiple times that he can take on the world's best batsmen.
2308  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcoin betting on the 2020 US Presidential Election | Trump vs Biden on: December 06, 2020, 01:26:34 PM
You're right, but  the price of the crypto used for the bet, is also an issue, if it falls during the period, you'll get coins that worth nothing in 4 years.

There are multiple risks. Obviously the cryptocurrency exchange rate can go down, just like what happened during 2014-15 period. But a greater risk is the gambling site itself getting closed without any warning. I am active in this forum for almost 4 years and I have seen this happening in front of my own eyes. Many of the gambling sites, which existed in 2017 are no longer active. Most of them vanished all of a sudden, taking the customer funds with them.
2309  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin retirement account on: December 06, 2020, 01:20:10 PM
I understand that some people prefer third party services to manage their retirement funds. But the big question is whether this is needed with the Bitcoin holdings or not. Unlike the case with treasury bonds or mutual funds, it is very easy to self-manage cryptocurrency holdings. So if I want to keep Bitcoin for my retirement funds, then I would do that myself rather than involving any third party.
2310  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: when is the right time to buy cryptocurrency? on: December 06, 2020, 01:13:04 PM
When looking at coinmarketcap, everyone can see that Altcoins are very good and increase in price according to Bitcoin. But the rapid rise in price mainly from Bitcoin, the Altcoins increased very slowly. So why don't we buy the Altcoins when they're cheap?

This is an idiotic argument. Just because an asset is cheap, that doesn't mean that it is underpriced. Take the example of stock market. Apple is having a market capitalization of $2.08 trillion. Xerox on the other hand, is having a market cap of only $4.6 billion. Does that mean that Xerox is a better stock when compared to Apple? If you are still confused, just look at the last 12-months return for both these stocks.
2311  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: December 06, 2020, 01:07:48 PM
It is a long back incident. Now the women has reached the court as he has rejected her. This has happened during his hard days of life, before entering the cricketing career. This women have helped him have a successful career working and making him to be independent and concentrate on his cricketing career. Now after he has succeeded, his mind has forgotten her. This is what I understood from the news, but we can't be judgemental as we don't know what is the truth.

Whether he is guilty or not, his reputation will be tarnished forever. In South Asian countries, it is considered taboo to have sexual relationship before marriage. What he did was worse. He had the relationship, and then he dumped her (Hamiza Mukhatar) when she demanded him to marry her. Babar should have settled this out of court. But he and his family tried to threaten Mukhatar, and this worsened the situation.
2312  Economy / Economics / Re: Paypal bought up to 70% of all the newly mined bitcoin recently on: December 06, 2020, 01:01:12 PM
With the current raising buying pressure from institutions $20k is a low-ball target. I think Bitcoin will leap forwards towards the $50k once we officially break the $20k mark. It is a psychological price point as well.
Curious when will the Guggenheim fund start investing heavily into BTC. Are they waiting for a break of the ATH or for a dip. Or maybe.. for whichever will happen first.

I agree. But the $20K resistance level is really proving hard to breach. At least for now, it looks like the supply crunch in the market is being eased. Also, you can expect more selling, as long term holders would be liquidating some of their holdings to fund year-end vacations. And this is the reason why I am not expecting a resumption of rally before January 2021.
2313  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: good news for bitcoin at the moment on: December 06, 2020, 12:55:11 PM
This has nothing to do with Pizza Hut. Some of their franchises are accepting cryptocurrency and that decision has nothing to do with Pizza Hut. Anyway, it is not that practical to accept direct cryptocurrency payments for restaurant or fast food chains. Third party payments, using BitPay or other providers is OK. But imagine someone making a direct payment in Bitcoin and waiting for 30 minutes to get a confirmation.
2314  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Beware of ETH2.0 Scammers on: December 06, 2020, 12:49:11 PM
LOL! The audacity!

Is it that easy to get that "verified" badge? The account even has 67.2K followers Grin It's either a legit account that was hacked long ago (most likely) or someone who bought followers.

Just now noticed it. How is it possible to get the "verified" badge (blue tick), when Vitalik is already having a verified account with the same name? This is what happens when Twitter spends most of their resources to promote left-wing agenda, rather than working to prevent scams and other forms of crime which happens on their platform. In this case, Twitter is responsible, if any user is losing his hard earned coins.
2315  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: December 06, 2020, 12:43:30 PM
Ajinkya Rahane has scored a century against a strong Australia A attack. Right now, India is comfortably placed at 237/8, with Rahane and Mohammed Siraj at the crease. For the Australians, James Pattinson took 3 wickets. It will be interesting to watch the Australian openers tomorrow (Will Pucovski and Joe Burns). A good performance in this match would ensure their selection to the playing XI for the test matches.
2316  Economy / Economics / Re: More Banks maybe Closed and cryptocurrency exchangers are new way of banking on: December 06, 2020, 12:37:18 PM
There's a reason regulations on banking and traditional exchanges exist. It's not just government deciding to insert themselves in unnecessarily. Each banking regulation was designed to cure a problem that caused risk to the system and to create accountability for bad or negligent actors. There's no reason to trust an unregulated crypto exchange for the same reason. We've seen enough of them go under to know that they're plagued by more problems than unregulated banks are.

I have to agree with you here. We have experimented with unregulated markets for so many years. And the outcome is exchanges going down every now and then, and customers losing their hard earned coins. If regulation can make a difference here, then I am in favor of it. Obviously, how far this "regulation" goes is another concern for the cryptocurrency users.
2317  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Airdrops or "Scam-drops"? on: December 06, 2020, 12:31:18 PM
Obviously you should avoid any such airdrop like plague. The purpose of an airdrop is to distribute small amounts of cryptocurrency to individuals, who otherwise can't afford to purchase it. If a fee is being charged, then the purpose is lost. But there are huge number of free airdrops out there, which are quite useful for newer users to get their hands on some coins or tokens.
2318  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can new crypto beat Eth in the market? on: December 06, 2020, 12:25:30 PM
ETH is an important cryptocurrency because you need ETH wherever you buy and sell, so I think ETH is the best platform. Such XRP has gone far but in the near future its price may go much further. But you can hold ETH.

Nope. Name one important online marketplace, where ETH is the sole mode of payment available. I have seen market places which accept only BTC, but I haven't seen one which accepts only Ethereum payments. On top of that, the developers are not fulfilling the expectation of the users now. Various innovations are getting delayed and new bugs and security issues are being found. If this trend continues, then in the long term ETH will be replaced by some other altcoin.
2319  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: December 06, 2020, 12:19:27 PM
Do you understand that the world is not completely free from covid-19 yet. BCCI and any other board should not resume all the matches including the domestics ones. Resuming domestic games at this time will mean that all the players have to take covid-19 tests and there will be risk of getting infected. So why not keep domestic series on halt until the situation is back to normal.

Sporting activities have resumed all over the world. Apart from India, almost all the other countries are conducting domestic tournaments right now. One of the most popular T20 leagues, the BBL will start next week. When all the other boards can conduct cricket matches, why BCCI is having so much issue in doing the same? Even in India, the infection rates are declining.
2320  Economy / Economics / Re: How long will it take banks to phase out physical cash completely? on: December 06, 2020, 12:13:20 PM
I agree with two or three decades or the government can opt to create their own, I don't think they will adopt existing coin, they will prepare to adopt their own which they can regulate and fully control but awareness is the first key, the whole world should have a full awareness of how Cryptocurrency works before they support.

Obviously none of the governments are going to adopt a decentralized cryptocurrency. At the most, they will adopt a central bank issued cryptocurrency (such as digital Yuan of China), which is centralized. If the governments adopts a decentralized currency, then it will be akin to giving away the control of financial system to the people. It will be good news for the citizens, but not for the authorities.
