I've been watching Orphan Black recently and while it's not a top calibre HBO style show, it's pretty entertaining.

So far the story has been alright, but it's the type of show where the writers could easily mess it up and make it not worth watching. But for now I'm finding it watchable.

Also, the leading actress is pretty good. You'd have to watch it to see what I mean, but it's impressive.
2342  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What city has the highest amount of bitcoin users? on: June 02, 2014, 05:28:35 PM
You could watch BTC flow into countries in real time here: http://fiatleak.com/

LOL

Holy shit this is awesome. I love the animation of the floating bitcoins going in to the countries.

I had never heard of this before, thanks!

2343  Other / Off-topic / How long should a car battery last? on: June 02, 2014, 05:15:09 PM
So I have a 2011 Toyota Vios and about a year and a half ago the battery was shot and we had to get a new one. I thought it was a bit strange but supposedly Toyota sells the cars with cheap batteries so it's not uncommon for it to go so soon.

So anyway now it's a year and half later with the new battery and the car wouldn't start again due to the battery. It required a jump to start and this is similar to what happened when the other one died. Now it was a cheap battery, but really it seems way too quick for it to require replacement again. Or is this just to be expected when you buy cheap batteries? Are they really that bad?

I think there are batteries that come with 5 year guarantees, and at this point I'm guessing it might be worth it. Is this the case?

What do you think, am I just stupid for buying a cheap battery, or should this not be happening?
2344  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What city has the highest amount of bitcoin users? on: June 02, 2014, 05:05:44 PM
I would probably guess it would be something like New York. Or maybe Berlin. But maybe there are some other cities out there that happen to have a much larger percentage of people actively using bitcoin.

I'd love to visit a city where I can spend bitcoin throughout my day on the regular daily activities like dining, shopping, and entertainment. Is this possible anywhere yet?

Even if you know your city isn't the biggest bitcoin city, post it anyway and describe how people are actively using bitcoin if you'd like to share.
2345  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: This guy accidentally sent 800 coins to an old Mt.Gox address - he needs help on: June 02, 2014, 05:00:41 PM
Honestly, for that amount of money I'd probably be flying out to Japan. First thing I would do is get a lawyer there and begin contacting the bankruptcy trustee to see if we could get this resolved as soon as possible.

Hell if I were in Japan I'd try to do inquiring on your behalf but I'm a few hours flight away.

At least with this all hope is not lost. Unlike other times when people lose their wallets or send money to unknown addresses.

just got through hbo's "the wire". TOP NOTCH. best show i've ever watched, hands down. also recently watched "the corner" as a follow up (also baltimore w/ many of the same actors) -- didn't have the same punch but also very good.

Yes, yes and yes. The Wire is the greatest show of all time. The Corner is also a good watch.

The Wire is in my opinion the greatest piece of modern media and should be considered a classic along side some of the great books of our time.

There was actually a class at Harvard on the Wire. I would love to take a class like that. I could analyze that show forever.

The Wire is one show that I know I'll be rewatching ever once and a while for a very long time.

Yes, The Wire was one of the greatest series of all time, but it feels really dated to me.   It is a lot harder to watch it now than when it was new...

Yeah, on my most recent rewatch I did notice that it felt dated. I guess it's been around 10 years now so I can't be too surprised.

2348  Other / Off-topic / Re: TrueCrypt development ended - now insecure? on: June 02, 2014, 02:10:01 PM
The whole 'go use bitlocker' thing is blowing my mind. How could they possibly say that?

I'm on 7.1a but I'm not too happy right now. Honestly I don't have anything really worth protecting since I don't keep btc on it, but still.

I'm not a paranoid person but after seeing that message my imagination starts going off.

Has there been any other unofficial messages from the TC people? The lack of explanation really makes me even more suspicious...like they can't legally talk about or something.

2350  Other / Off-topic / Re: Ask me anything about being a sex addict. (Serious thread) on: June 02, 2014, 02:01:17 PM
Do you find yourself deceiving new women you meet? As in telling them you're interested in a relationship and not just sex.

Where do you meet most of these new women you're constantly pursuing?

Do you think that if you were less hung you would also have less interest in sex with new partners constantly? Is part of your motivation in effect 'showing off' to all these new women?
2351  Other / Off-topic / Re: which dish you like to cook for yourself ? on: June 02, 2014, 01:56:29 PM
This is always a good fall back if you like spicy Thai food:

http://www.realthairecipes.com/recipes/stir-fried-pork-with-holy-basil/

You can always tone down the amount of chili of you don't like it too hot.

I really like the way the egg is deep fried. It's pretty different and good. Can get a bit crispy on the edges.

Pork is the most common meat people use, but chicken and beef work nicely as well.

2352  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mt. Gox creator Jed McCaleb invites ‘alpha testers’ for secret Bitcoin project on: June 02, 2014, 01:43:54 PM
Incase anyone wants to sign up:

Anyone have any idea what this is going to be?

Wild guesses?

I'm trying to think what it could be and I'm honestly coming up with nothing at all.
2353  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-06-01] CD: Cash-Strapped MultiBit Developers to Charge Transaction Fee on: June 02, 2014, 01:36:02 PM
This is actually quite interesting and depending on how this goes for them I think it might set a precedent going forward for other wallets to consider charging users similar fees in addition to the standard miners fee.

If the wallet can not be supported on donations alone then in a sense it's now completing with other wallets since users will now have a financial incentive(albeit a very small one) to switch to other free wallets.

I wonder if this will lead to Multibit adding additional features in order to entice new users to use their product. Now that they have a potential stream of revenue they have more reason to do so.
2354  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New York City Restaurants accepting Bitcoin on: June 02, 2014, 01:30:25 PM
good news!when they accept dogecoin?

What's the good news?  Most of the places I visited over a year ago no longer accept bitcoins.

And Charlie may be in jail... not sure if his bar Evo? is still up & running.

And I'm not sure if any dogecoin payment processors have had success in the New York marketplace yet.

Wasn't this it? http://www.evrnyc.com/about

Odd thing is I went to the bottle booking part of the website and when I went to checkout I didn't see any mention of bitcoin at all. Only credit cards.

Is this not the right bar? Or was it sold or something?
2355  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: NASDAQ now have an article about Bitcoin on: June 02, 2014, 12:21:07 PM
It looks like they decided to pick up an article from investing.com.

It's a good sign that they feel that the price of bitcoin is a newsworthy event. It's also good that the average person checking the NASDAQ site sees bitcoin as just another financial instrument available for use and or investment.

When the Winklevoss' fund gets listed there on NASDAQ like it's supposed to at some point here it will be even better. That will be another milestone for bitcoin. Average people will be able to buy their ETF with their Schaub or E-Trade account like they would buy APPL or MSFT.
2356  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Its so hard to buy bitcoin these days compared to 2011 on: June 02, 2014, 10:22:46 AM
back in 2011 all I had to do was send money via moneygram at walmart and BOOM! BTCs!!

now it seems like its so hard to purchase bitcoins even when the market's bigger.
I was considered a high risk from coinbase, they declined my transaction, (im not a high risk I have enough money),
kraken,BTC-e dont accept USD anymore, my bank CHASE about to shut my account because I was dealing with coinbase..
I don't know where I should go to buy bitcoins at market price (localbitcoin is too expensive)

So ironic and funny..

Im gonna try bitstamp tonight..any words of advice will be helpful

If I remember correctly back when we could buy btc at Walmart that was when Bitinstant was still around and they got in trouble with the gov for facilitating silk road users or something similar.

One thing that we have going for us now is localbitcoins, which I've found to be pretty good. You being an American you could almost certainly go on there now and find a trade. Heck, there's even a bunch of people using PayPal on there(be extra cautious of that though).

Circle is supposedly coming soon and I think people are expecting the to make things easier/better. We'll see how that works out. Not holding my breath.
2357  Economy / Trading Discussion / Buying BTC with Ukash on: June 02, 2014, 10:01:52 AM
There are a lot of scam sites out there claiming to do Ukash exchanges. Anyone know of legit sites that do them?

BTC says they take Ukash in their FAQ, but they don't actually have that deposit option.

I looked it to Virwox and was shocked to see the fees. It looks like it would be 15% deposit fee, 2.9% buy SLL, then again 2.9% sell SLL for BTC. That is absolutely insane. Plus I would pay a big forex fee since I get my vouchers in another currency.

Anyone have any experience with this want to chime in?

Thanks.
2358  Economy / Services / Re: WE PAY FOR SIGNATURE EVEN MORE. UP TO 0.0016 BTCs PER POST. WEEKLY PAYOUTS. on: June 02, 2014, 08:34:01 AM

The "PLANS IN THE AIR" has a x1.30 factor instead of 1.75x, which he changed about a week ago or so. He probably lost too much money using 1.75x.

That's just plain wrong. It was at 1.4x before he changed it to 1.3x and he acknowledged doing so in his other thread. Reason being that people were presumably taking the publicly available flight data and using it to beat the site. There is nothing dishonest about changing the line on a bet. That's how gambling works. It's a push and pull operation.
2359  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-05-14] Could One Bitcoin Come To Be Worth $1 Billion? on: May 18, 2014, 06:02:12 PM
Could pretty much only happen with a total collapse of the US dollar.

I think it could happen by 2018 or the latest by 2020 (once Hillary Clinton becomes the POTUS). Already the debt to GDP ratio is crossing 120%. Additional expenses from Obamacare, wars in Syria, Ukraine.etc will force them to print more and more dollar bills and treasury bonds. This can't go on indefinitely. The collapse is very near.  Grin

I think it would take a little bit more than that to collapse the US dollar Wink But if I'm holding btc I guess I'm on your side for now Tongue
