1901  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Nautiluscoin Sponsors #2 MMA Fighter on National TV...Jon Fitch Getting NAUTi!!! on: June 20, 2014, 08:08:00 PM
Wow. This is actually pretty good.

I'm not really familiar with Nautilus Coin other than hearing the name, but Fitch is a pretty big name in MMA.

Good work on landing this deal.
1902  Other / Off-topic / Re: Are you a robot? on: June 20, 2014, 08:02:32 PM
Dank has a form of Bipolar disorder. I've observed his posts for quite some time, and a major symptom of Bipolar Disorder is thinking yourself "superhuman" or "otherwordly" aka Dank thinks he's far greater than anyone else because of supposed superhuman abilities. Common bipolar disorder thoughts.

I advice you to see a psychiatrist Dank, it will help greatly and keep your mind in clarity.

Don't all humans have positive and negative emoticons?  Hate and love?  Fear and peace?  Two poles?  Bi-polar?

Psychiatry is bullshit pseudoscience based off no more than opinion.  You must have robotitus.

There's a medicine for that, look into psychedelic healing.

hey dank can u tell me what is this
b'cause i am not able to see it clearly

and why have u posted this
"You cannot kill love"
is there a reason behind it

I picked it for reasons unknown at the time.  But upon my journeys I found it's meaning, it represent oroborus.  Humans are stuck in a cycle of self destruction, our planet constantly consumes itself, the picture is symbolic of our destruction of self.

You cannot kill love was added back in 2012, it meant the power of love will prevail.  Nature always wins over man made creations.  I have since realized much more from this statement.  I am a being of love.  My soul is love and it is my consciousness.  It is applicable to myself, you cannot kill love, you cannot kill me, you cannot kill god, no matter how hard you tried.

Synchronicity is cool.

How do you think 2012 Dank would feel about this post Dank Bank era 2014 Dank?
1903  Other / Off-topic / Re: The ascension of humanity explained on: June 20, 2014, 08:00:39 PM
I have experienced complete loss of ego as well but that didn't make me believe in any supernatural bullshit.

The laws of physics are real. Sorry that the real world isn't more interesting for you.
1904  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Iraqi miliatants stole 400 million $, could have been saved with bitcoin! on: June 20, 2014, 07:42:07 PM
ak-47 to the head by some Isis fanatic...oh I'd be giving up the private keys with a quickness.

I think, if it was for bitcoin, it would have been transferred out of the region before they were even close. I mean, bitcoin has that power after all: you can send money from Iraq to Australia within a few minutes. But I'm not sure about Iraq's internet connectivity?

Bitcoins are everywhere there is internet though. You can't transfer the bitcoins to Australia. As long as they can get the public and private keys they can take the coins.
1905  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Iraqi miliatants stole 400 million $, could have been saved with bitcoin! on: June 20, 2014, 07:30:33 PM

But this would have not happened if the banks have converted all the money into bitcoin and had the private keys encrypted..even if stolen money is super traceable with blockchain.

Just one more reason of how bitcoin could truly help the world become a better place.

For this it seems like a good solution would be m of n to protect the btc. And not have the people in the same place at the same time. Thus if they capture one torturing them would be futile.

Futile for the terrorist, but the person being tortured would still die because they don't have the information.  So, that doesn't really help.

OP, in this exact instance you might be right, but how many people have been scammed or lost BTC basically BECAUSE IT'S BTC, and if it was cash they wouldn't have lost it or been scammed?  So there are ways to lose BTC and dollars, just maybe slightly different ways Wink

Yeah, I agree. Bitcoin opens up lots of new opportunities for criminals. It's a dream currency for criminals. But there's nothing we can realistically do about it.
1906  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would it be better for us to call Bitcoin 'pseudo-decentralised'? on: June 20, 2014, 04:54:49 PM

Hmm, this is interesting. This might be a good argument for the word decentralised. But isn't the bitcoin network full of nodes in a distributed fashion? Or is each node like the 'decentralised' diagram in your picture?

Either way, this is a good post with a good source of evidence on how to properly use 'decentralised'. As I read the link I'm thinking that decentralised as the article outlines does describe bitcoin.

Quote
The centralized and decentralized systems thrive on the use of authority. The concept of authority and subjugation inhibits the treatment of all humans as equal, which is against the principle of a truly democratic system. These systems emphasize the vertical relationship and weaken the horizontal ones. Consequently, the mutually-beneficial communication and collaborations among local authorities do not exist. On the contrary, distributed systems operate inherently in the principle of justice and equality of all.

The mining pools do have authority as outlined in this article.

If we accept this then we're left with bitcoin being decentralised but not trustless.
1907  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which altcoin features can you not live without? on: June 20, 2014, 04:45:26 PM
I'm curious, do you have any exemple of a coin that is expensive to use or hard to use?

Bitcoin is expensive and slow.

Easy to use for the most part. But could be a lot better for the average person.

All of these things are subjective and depend on the use case.

Bitcoin is expensive compared to random-alt, cheap compared to paypal. Slow compared to paypal, fast compared to international wire transfer. Easy to use compared to most software in the world, difficult compared to most online payment systems.

All of these things can be addressed by supporting infrastructure, extension, or third party software.

For example, we could easily make an open source skrill or paypal which allows multiple service providers to give abstracted access to the bitcoin system, whilst remaining interoperable. Decentralized does not preclude federated, and federated does not mean centralized.

Bitcoin the protocol allows the small operator to innovate and compete with the big guys in many market places.

Indeed, and businesses like Coinbase are working hard to support the infrastructure.
However, this external infrastructure seems to be adding a useless risk where we have to trust a third-party, considering that many of the features they add can be included directly in altcoins (like the faster transaction time and lower fees).

Imho, using an altcoin with better features is safer than using Bitcoin with an external app which compensates for its flaws.

That's true. And that's an interesting way to look at using altcoins. They are likely safer than using a centralised third party. So that might be a good way to market an altcoin to people using bitcoin already.
1908  Other / Off-topic / Re: Does using Adblock Plus make you more secure? on: June 20, 2014, 04:40:08 PM
You could do web-surfing trough a virtual machine. none of the scripts would then have access to your machine

Ghostery allows to block ads, trackers and scripts if I'm not mistaken

What about using Sandboxie? Would that achieve the same result, or no?
1909  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would it be better for us to call Bitcoin 'pseudo-decentralised'? on: June 20, 2014, 03:21:03 PM
if your going to use the word, spell it first

pseudo-decentralised

If you're going to correct his spelling, make sure you know the difference between your and you're first.

Here's a quick lesson from 1st grade English class:

Your = Posessive.  Shows ownership.  (Can I have your car?)
You're = Contraction of You + Are.  (You're going to use that word?)

In fact your entire sentence was a disaster.  I think this is what you were going for:   "If you're going to use the word, learn how to spell it first".

-B-

lol, don't need to be so brutal.. but it is kinda funny that he's being pedantic yet doesn't know the difference between you're and your.

i once had a guy tell me "your redicules."  Grin

I think Franky enjoys telling people they're wrong on the forum here. Tongue

Yeah, all of that is true.

I was comparing bitcoin to altcoins like you said.

There is lots of potential still and lots of uncharted territory still in this space.

I fucking love this kind of stuff, my only worry is that facebook has bought occulus rift.

I hate the fact that Facebook bought Oculus. But there's nothing that's going to stop VR. It's coming with or without Oculus in my opinion.

Valve is working on one aren't they?

Does anybody know when Valve is going to release there version of VR? And are there any issues whit using VR's? Headaches and so on

Not sure when Valve is going to release their VR thing. Maybe at the same time they release Half Life 3? Tongue

And yeah a lot of people have problems with motion sickness I think. But I hear that companies are working on that too.
1912  Other / Off-topic / Re: Does using Adblock Plus make you more secure? on: June 20, 2014, 03:11:51 PM
I use adblock plus to block ads and ghostery to block scripts. Both of them are fairly user friendly and work in Chrome and Firefox.

If you're trying to log into a site that you know is kosher, such as online banking, you can temporarily allow scripts by clicking on the ghostery icon in your browser toolbar.

Checking out ghostery now.

Thanks.
1913  Other / Off-topic / Re: Does using Adblock Plus make you more secure? on: June 20, 2014, 03:11:04 PM

Nope, what you want is "NoScript"

Also use Adblock Edge, they dont have "allowed ads"

Ok I just removed Adblock Plus from Chrome. But it seems there's no such thing as NoScript for Chrome.

ScriptSafe is coming up as the first result on a google for "noscript for chrome" good enough or no?

Ah though you used FireFox, let me see... for chrome is no plugin needed because there is a build in setting:

go to chrome://settings

and search for "click-to-play" it will disable all sorts of plugins. You can just click on a Chrome message to active it for that specific page. Best way to test and see is youtube

I do use click to play already, but that only really comes up for videos mostly. Like flash or whatever. I don't think it affects JS at all. Although I'm not sure. If this is a fairly safe way to browse, then I'm happy to just have that setting on. But I'm just taking some precautions with all the malware that's out there.
1914  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bolivia Bans Bitcoins! on: June 20, 2014, 02:57:52 PM
Wow, that makes them the first country to ban Bitcoin entirely.

I knew it would be one of those Banana Republic South American countries. Their monetary systems are rapidly falling apart and they are desperate to control capital. If I was a betting man, I would be betting on them failing miserably.

Vietnam did didn't they?

I thought I remembered hearing something like that, no?

Says here on wiki too. This this incorrect?

Does Adblock Plus block scripts and phishing attempts from 3rd parties on websites that might target your wallets/exchange accounts?

I know the most secure thing would be to disable JS altogether. But is this a middle ground that still lets you use the functionality of most sites?

I hear that a lot of people are getting their blockchain.info and BTC-e accounts hacked and it makes be suspisious of third party attacks being inserted on sites via an ad campaign.

Good idea or useless?

1919  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What city has the highest amount of bitcoin users? on: June 20, 2014, 12:51:40 PM
That must be China, just by probability and country's population. The youtube views of that PSY guy are just by probability and country's population.

Enough with the China hype..
Why not Tokyo? Still the largest city and .. satoshi nakamoto Smiley.

But now really , there is no usage of btc in china , almost no shop using it.
I doubt that there are more than 1000 chinese that have btc in their wallets (not on their fake volume exchnges).

My bet would be on either NYC or one of the major European cities close by.

If anything Japan is massively under represented in bitcoin. I hardly hear of anything going on in Japan related to bitcoin outside of the fact that Karpeles ran Gox out of Tokyo.
1920  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Why use ubuntu on cold computer on: June 20, 2014, 12:48:27 PM
nd given that linux is a recommended platform for crypto coin wallets, wallet stealers will most likely target it preferentially in the future.
So whatever OS you use, that main security factor is the one sitting in front of the keyboard.

Onkel Paul

That is a very good point.

It will be interesting to see when this starts to happen. It's a bit scary thinking that there are people writing malware for linux that's going to empty wallets.
