Of course they will...because they are last generation tech being sold at fire sale prices. They are much less power efficient as well. I dont think I quite understand your weird ass math either.

It has still very high costs to entry for small miners. Developing strong ASIC resistant algos for GPUs is easier and more effective.
How so? Outside of a few specific instances you can buy an altcoin ASIC for WAY less then it costs to build a 6 card rig and get better performance. You can fight ASICs all you want, you wont stop them.

I think it should make sense for them to only offer the most power efficient version.
All they are doing is downclocking the boards and adding more. Any of those versions should be able to run at the best power efficiency at the expense of some hash rate.

From the reports so far, the 6xx series will be no more powerful than the 5 series cards, so dont expect any big hashrate increases. id say 10-15% gains are optimistic.

What people fail to take into account is the quality of PSU being used on the miner. I have 13.5TH s9s with one PSU type pulling as low as 1360w at the PDU, and with another PSU type they are pulling 1430w. Also important to note is the heat of the datacenter. Machines are less efficient the hotter it is. That same 1360w S9 will pull 1450w on a hot (80f+) day. The power numbers are not static, and unless you have a setup that can read and parse all PDU power readings it is pretty much impossible to be accurate. I personally calculate all of my miners at 1450w when rolling them out but the reality is, some of them will pull over 1500w on a 90f+ day.

There is no help. You did something that violated the terms of service for that product, you have no recourse. Try to be less of a shady person and things like this wont happen to you.

exhausting the hot air is critical to having a successful mining setup. A/C will kill your profits, its all about removing the heat as fast as you can.

Not to burst your bubble but you can buy a brand new s9 with a full 6 month warranty for $355 from bitmain right now...

The first step is giving more information. You need to provide something of substance because there is a million things that can cause a generic error like that

I have found you really need to power cycle the unit to reinitialize cards that are having issues. You can buy a device that allows you to SSH in and physically switch power on and off You want something like this: https://www.amazon.com/D-Link-Energy-Monitoring-Amazon-DSP-W215/dp/B00K4YEI28/Obviously you need to make sure it supports your PSU (110v versus 220v) and the proper amperage. The link I posted was for informational use only, it is not a specific recommendation.

After editing the file CONTROL I was able to successfully flash a controller with this firmware. The first unit i tried it on killed the controller I think, I cant get an IP out of it at all anymore but the second one worked just fine. Thankfully I have a few hundred spare controllers.

We all had to start somewhere!
The fans you linked should work just fine on your S9.

Well I see two issues. The bmminer not found issue, which can be remedied by replacing the Nov 17th firmware with almost anything else. (Id recommend the new s9j firmware as it is compatible and reports are the miner runs cooler and quieter with the new firmware)
The second issue, which should be pretty obvious is a fan problem. Remember while a fan may still be powered and spinning, if the controller cant read it, the miner will not hash

After heatsinks are attached, these pins can only be reached with long, thin extensions to a multimeter’s test pins, such as needles. Be careful not to short circuit the signal by rubbing the needle against the side of the heatsink. As this is VERY easy to do, I would recommend you take some liquid electrical tape and cover the extension if it is not already protected. I coat mine and then just snip off the last quarter inch or so once dry. This will greatly help you in preventing shorts while testing

"antminer Hardware Version Socket connect failed: Connection refused"
This isnt an error per se...this just means the miner executable wasnt running, therefore the console could not query its status. I think to figure out what happened you would have had to dive in a little deeper while the problem was present. SSH in, run network diagnostics from there and not the web page, etc. Do you have a backup pool set? Maybe your pool went down for a bit?

They're not "standing up to Bitmain" and it is foolish to claim as such. They are centralizing asic mining to profit from 100% of all asic miner sales used for this coin................ Communism is alive and well in Crypto it would seem. I wonder what decision will be made next to benefit the Sia team?
In case anyone has forgotten, the whole base principle of cryptocurrency is decentralization. Sia is now centralized and no doubt they will have representatives arguing till the end of time they are not but the facts are evident. At this point in time you couldn't run fast enough to give me a Sia coin. Chris B.
It hurts my brain to see the sheep saying that this selective bricking of devices is ok.

You need to look at things through the eyes of a businessman and not some chump at home who bought a few rigs when prices were high and thought he was going to get rich.
NEWS FLASH: Mining is not for the home user anymore, it is the domain of commercial entities
The bull run of last year caused many people to jump into the space and start building out farms/datacenters. Just because the prices dropped back down to more realistic levels does not mean you abandon your entire business plan. You continue building and mining in hopes of surviving until the next big price run and thats where you make your fortune. You dont just cancel a project half way and lose millions of dollars because you dont think you are making 'enough' profit.
You dont need to blame secret ASICs or any other garbage like that, its just simple economics.

Forecasting has been and always will be a fools errand when it comes to this industry. There are just too many variables to break it down into simple numbers like you are doing in your post. While its true if things stay static, the outlook is bleak but I highly doubt that will stay that way for long.

Fork from within side? Obviously he used a translator he can’t be bothered to even use proper english on his rant smh, shows the utter disdain bitmain has for us lol.
Actually go watch his presentations. He speaks english and it just makes you sound like an asshole for calling someone out on mistakes they made on the second or third language they have learned.

It has happened before and when it did the diff dropped off for a while.
Except now there are more large farms coming on line than ever, it wont flatten out its going to continue to rise steadily. I know a few hundred megawatts worth of places going online in the next few months alone.
