241  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Official Anoncoin chat thread (including history) on: April 14, 2014, 09:18:35 PM
Given that there is little information available online as to how zerocoin actually works, and given that people are bound to look for this information after zerocoin is implemented in anoncoin, I've decided to update the zerocoin wikipedia page:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zerocoin

I don't fully understand the zero-knowledge proof for redeeming zerocoins, and the original paper is a bit opaque to a non-expert, so it would be great if there was someone who could clean up any mistakes I made...

Does anyone know if the openSSL heart bleed bug affects the Anoncoin wallet? I see that several coins have already updated their wallets over the past couple of days...

I believe exposure to the coin will be exponential when ZC is officially implemented. BUT if there are no efforts from the devs and loyals to promote this breakthrough implementation, a "popular" coin will simply copy the implementation and take the glory for its own.
Technical innovation is mandatory for success but with no media coverage it will be copied by som1 else and anc will miss it's chance to glory.
Before getting the implementation and code online for the public, a campaign should be organized to promote this upgrade.

I agree. There should be set up some bounties and a fundraising for marketing. The coin is 10 months old and don't even have a logo.  Smiley

Most coins is just marketing and hype without any technical innovation or purpose other then make some btc for devs/early adopters. Anoncoin is the exact oposite.

Anyone with some ideas?

I agree, but those interested in the growth and health of the Anoncoin must invest personally.
Everyone is free to start a new project related to Anoncoin. Everyone is free to invest his time, knowledge or money in that currency, you do not need any permission to act!
I think the long-term success of a crypto-currency is its acceptance by merchants and the quantity/quality of services that are created around.

I wholeheartedly agree. Nevertheless, the developers share a small responsibility in getting things started, as not all can be done by third parties. I am sure that they are all very busy in real life, so the first step would be to delegate this authority by naming about three people to work on PR/Web issues. (JackofAll appears to be MIA; in any case more than one person is needed).

A three person PR/Web team could easily oversee a variety of projects, including:

1. Updating the web page to describe the characteristics (and history) of the coin, including a brief description of the I2P and Zerocoin implementations.

2. Moving the official chat forum to anoncoin.net.

3. Setting up a donation fund for the development of a promotional video.

4. Setting up donation funds for completion of the “in planning/development” tasks listed on the web site.

5. Organization of some form of competition (perhaps with a reward) for a new coin logo.

6. Setting up an “Anoncoin monthly update”, similar to the weekly updates that are posted on the PPC forum.

7. Publicizing the faucet, so that more will donate to it, allowing newbies to experiment with zerocoin transactions.

8. Translation of the website into Chinese (and other languages), perhaps by way of a donation fund.

I just started working on a wikipedia entry for anoncoin. As soon as zerocoin is implemented, and as soon as there are a couple of news stories to justify "notability", I will create its own page. At the time being, anyone can edit the draft here:

I suspect that there are errors...

lots of questions on this thread that go unanswered

The lack of information is currently a detriment to this coin, and the relevant information changes every few weeks

so I'll try to answer a few things, I am not affiliated with Anoncoin, just been having my team research it for the last few months:

The Zerocoin "bloat" problem has been solved. First of all, it isn't that large of an addition to block sizes, and second of all, they get deleted or pruned from the blockchain after X confirmations. This completely mitigates any problems that were imagined with zerocoin blockchain size.

Regarding I2P - not really sure. I know a lot more about TOR than I do I2P. I do not think you need your own I2P client running to use Anoncoin in I2P

As someone who is only interested in anonymous digital currency transactions, and not investing, I have to agree that it is hard to find critical/basic information about this coin. Ultimately, this lack of information will stop people from using it. Most of this info can be found in several online forums, but it would be best if this could be added to the official website. For example (and yes, I know the answers to most of these questions):

-what is the time for generating new blocks?
-how many blocks were pre-mined, and what happened to the corresponding anc?
-why is the block reward schedule so odd? (4.2 to 7 to 5 ANC)
-what exactly does I2P do for anonymity (most people naively think that transactions can't be tracked....)
-Do you use scrypt? or SHA-256?

In addition, I think that it would be great to show a graph of the expected number of coins as a function of time, as well as the expected block reward as a function of time.

you can look at what nodes are on the network. you can correlate time and frequency that you see certain IP addresses

IP addresses can be masked, thats all

I know that. My point is that this should be stated on the website for people who don't know what I2P is...

Given the upcoming support of the zerocoin protocol, I thought that it would be a good idea to have a wikipedia entry for Anoncoin.

A very rudimentary version can be found here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anoncoin

If anyone would like to help in developing this article, your help would be greatly appreciated! The current version is pretty sparse...

Alright, it looks like this article was already nominated for deletion once on the grounds that this coin it was not noteworthy. Though I disagree, I will re-create this as soon as zerocoin is up and working....

Does anyone know what is going on with the mining pool www.anoncoinpool.net? They've been down for a day and a half with no info...
