Thanks for the support Dreamwatcher. I certainly understand where people are coming from especially since we have seen so many coins come out since Feathercoin. It seems to me that it was noted with the launch of Feathercoin, that there is a large market for new Scrypt coins. I was not aware of the demand myself, though this was something I desperately wanted. I expected to be lambasted and ostracised somewhat but left with a coin and a small group of people to work with like some of the other coins that came out before, this seemed like a worthy trade off to me.

The take off of Feathercoin was overwhelming. It forced me to scale the project up rapidly on many fronts as things became serious. If people are going to invest into a coin then I believe there is a responsibility of the developer to do everything they can to make sure that the investment is kept safe.

Back to business. I have posted over at the Feathercoin forum about the current high difficulty that people keep messaging my about. Also check out the new style for our forum, it is in line with the rest of the website.

Coins pull through these things. Freicoin got stuck up high for three months which felt like death at the time. It is going well now.

FTC and CNC are both four times quicker than Freicoin over all.

Freicoin 10 minute block - difficulty change every 2016 blocks
Feathercoin 2.5 minute block - difficulty change every 2016 block
ChinaCoin 1 minute block - difficulty change every 5040 blocks

Minor Client Update
I have updated the client today to include four DNS Seeds for the network. DNS Seeds are nodes that should always be up and connected to the rest of the network. Without these nodes it makes it harder for the clients to find each other. This now doubles the number of DNS Seeds on the network.

The difficulty changes so that we end up with 2.5 minutes a block. This adjust happens every 2016 blocks and in between it is possible for blocks to be processed faster or slower depending on the number of miners and luck of course. So when miners left to go to ChinaCoin this slowed down block processing. However when the difficulty comes down those of us who believe in Feathercoin can look to mine some easier coins. Other coins have been in this position many times before, there is no need to worry.

A few messages have come in from people asking about what is happening in the world of Feathercoin so I thought I'd post here. I would like to say that I am fully committed to Feathercoin and view it as a long term project. I have left my position as Head of ICT in one of the Oxford University colleges to pursue this new currency full time. I have been a long time supporter of cryptocurrencies and am thrilled to be putting my time fully into them. I have enough Litecoin to see me through, I used to mine Litecoin when it was as easy as Feathercoin is to mine now. I am keen to make Feathercoin work for the next generation of crypto coin supporters.

Client
On the client front I am continuing to look at ways of improving the Feathercoin network, stability and client. This includes a minor update later on today with double the amount of DNS Seed nodes. These are the nodes hard coded into the client that helps it find the network. More of these adds better resilience. I will also add another checkpoint.

I am looking around for safe features that could be included in the client right now. Perhaps a tool that will allow you to get details about the network without having to run a hundred commands or go to an external website. If you have any ideas please send me a PM.

Merchant adoption
We have members who are contacting current merchants and service providers that currently use cryptocurrenices to introduce them to Feathercoin. We will see if there is anything we can do to help them to include it in their service. The target is to contact 1,000 businesses over the next 40 days. This is achievable and should yield great results.

Press pack
There is a press pack that will be going out to introduce Feathercoin to a larger audience along with high quality vectors graphics designed by the community here.

Website
The official forum is getting a styled to be inline with the rest of the website. Hosting is now being run in conjunction with Dreamwatcher and for that we get to use his excellent Feathercoin explorer which is also going to be styled like the rest of the site. We do have future plans for expanding the tools available on the website but will give more details when we get nearer to them.

Feathercoin and BitBar have absolutely no connections between the developers. You're far too paranoid

There are a lot of people working to further FTC on several levels. Just because you cannot see it on the forum does not mean that it is not happening. Feathercoin is going to be around for quite some time.

It is perhaps safest from your perspective just put money into BTC. I skipped BTC and went straight to LTC but that was some time ago. Personally I think the highest return is going to come from a new coin and there have been a few of those recently. Just do your own research to find out about the newer coins and make your own decision. There will be a lot of misleading people, also never listen to that chat box on BTC-e

Bounty
There is a 2,000FTC bounty for Feathercoin promotional videos or animations here.

Low starting difficulty allows for a large distribution of coins in a short time period. If launched at the right time you could have a broad user base with an invested interest. This is good for a coin to have.

Surely a lot of it has to do with the intentions of the developers of a coin. If they are committed to their project with support and updates then surely it is not a scam, only ambitious.

If someone is launching a coin with the sole purpose of dumping all their coins if a markets ever exists and leave, then that is a scam.

The problem is that we cannot see into the mind of the developers so how do we know?

People should not listen to the troll box on BTC-e. Too much fear, uncertainty and doubt is spread from there.

So far Feathercoin has picked up a lot of skill and knowledge from the community. This is what has gotten Feathercoin to where it is today. Feathercoin being launched on this forum into this very large community shows what we can do together. I can see now that it would have been much harder for Litecoin to progress, as there were lot fewer of us around back when it was launched. Remember to show Litecoin some love.

Details
We are hoping to get some more expertise on the team and this time it is animation that is required. We do no have any promotional videos or animations so far for Feathercoin and we need that to change.

As this project is a bit more involved than the others the entry period will run from now until 12th May at 06:00UTC and the winner will be announced later in that day.

Please submit your Feathercoin promotional animation or video on this post here or give a link to your work. The entry can be a flash or HTML5 animation, any standard web animation tech is good. It can also be a video that we could post on YouTube or elsewhere. You can make it as large as you want, but bear in mind when you are making it that we may need to resize it later.

I will make sure that all entrants do get some FTC for their contributions.
