For 50 dollars less you can pick up at 5770 and those easily get 200mhs. It seems 2mhs/1$ is a sweetspot.
I wouldn't call 2 megahash per dollar the sweetspot. The 5830 @ 130 gives you 2.4 if not 2.5 and the sapphire 5850 has been said to be able to do 400 easily with no over volt that's 2.76 megahash per dollar. The super good deal on the 5870 a week or two ago ($189) can easily give you 2.3. The 5770 can be a good deal but not at 100 if you can get one at 70 or 80 maybe. That's 2.86 but keep in mind all the parts in your server dilute the megahash per dollar value. The only way I think a 5770 build could work is if you could manage to squeeze 8 of them on a mobo but I havent done enough research on that to be positive.
this is not true, non of my 5850 has been able to do 400mh/s on stock voltage overclocking. "easily" means most of them should be able to hit this speed, which is not true at all. this is only a few lucky good ones
2403  Economy / Goods / Re: LAST CHANCE for new 5850 sapphire xtreme @ NCIX on: July 29, 2011, 10:24:07 PM
It's better to but and have it in your possession tore sell than say your going to get it.
lol what? i'm guessing you're trying to say it's better have it in my possession, then sell?

well if i have it my possession, that would mean that would have to ship to me, then it'll cost like another $10-15 to ship to the buyer, which will increase the out the door price. i'm just seeing if someone wants it for lower than most places out the door.

since it looks like that is a dedicated mining rig, does he have a user account on this forum?
2405  Economy / Goods / LAST CHANCE for new 5850 sapphire xtreme @ NCIX on: July 29, 2011, 08:49:34 PM
for some reason, they stopped letting you take orders on the sapphire 5850 xtreme, even at full price when clicking on the link. however, i just noticed that i added it on the day it was on sale, so it's still in my cart. luckily, i can still get it for the sale price! it says in order to keep the price, i have to check out within 5 days, which means this price will expire on sunday july 31 for me. what i'm offering is to get it shipped directly to you for exact costs + $15. it costs $158.32 with the cheapest shipping, and insurance for extra $2 is optional. getting more than one will result in cheaper costs per card. NCIX won't be getting more of these, so this is one of the last chance to get a brand new 5850. it's hard to find any in stock new 5850 at a reasonable price here in the US.

terms: i'm only offering this to people with prior transactions or references, or a decent amount of posts on here. if you have neither of these, don't bother PM'ing me. preferably i'll take paypal and amazon payment, but i'll do bitcoins and dwolla if i have to. let me know if there are any questions.

2408  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 70$ 5850 keep or sell on: July 29, 2011, 05:26:03 AM
if you don't need instant money, just mine with it until you don't want it anymore, then sell it.
2409  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Problems with MSI 890FXA-G65 and 4xGPUs on: July 29, 2011, 05:17:14 AM
hmm your GPUs might be throttling. or it might be a stability issue for the same reason that putting a lot of memory stick on a motherboard can also lower stability of the whole rig.
2410  Economy / Goods / Re: [4.5GH/s FOR SALE] on: July 28, 2011, 09:08:37 PM
if i remember correctly, all video cards are either sapphire 6950 2gb or gigabyte 6950 1gb. motherboard is MSI 890FXA-GD70, and PSU is antec TPQ-1200w for each rig. all caseless. but you might want to wait for him to come in to confirm his hardware

2413  Economy / Goods / Re: [4.5GH/s FOR SALE] on: July 28, 2011, 09:12:43 AM
i met up with him several times in person to buy stuff. awesome and friendly guy to deal with. if you thought his video card price was too good to be true, well it's true, so i bought them all myself. buy the rest of his rigs, otherwise you miss out again

btw, his wife is even hotter than those pics he posted  Wink
2414  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Just heard a POP! on: July 26, 2011, 07:28:42 PM
I had two psu's running the 4 card system. The main was a 650w Diablotek and the slave was one of those 450w that fits into a drivebay, dont know the brand. That one still works.

lol diablotek was the was PSU brand that messed up jonnyguru's PSU power source unit. i would stay away from this brand

2415  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Possible to run 3x6990's in a HAF X case? on: July 26, 2011, 07:17:46 PM
I have 3 x 6990 in HAFX case works fine with corsair 1200 AX PSU, I removed the door and placed a box fan there instead, all temps stay below 75c
is it possible to do without the side panel removed?
2416  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: MSI 890FXA-GD70 - Anyone using Extenders with it? on: July 26, 2011, 07:14:58 PM
Just answer this. It is possible to use this board without shorting any pins and if so, what combination of extenders do you need to buy?
hmm it's been answered twice already, but i guess reading comprehension is lacking. just buy 5 pci-e x16 extension cables, and 1 pci-e x1 extension cable, plug them in the appropriate slots, and you'll be good to go without having to short any pins.
2417  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Nearly bricked my 6990. on: July 26, 2011, 07:08:02 PM
i don't think a memory underclock will kill your card. it's gotta be something else
2418  Economy / Goods / Re: [trade or sell] brand new 6950 1gb for 5870 on: July 26, 2011, 06:52:35 PM
*bump* price reduced, also still looking to trade
2419  Economy / Goods / Re: No longer trading on this forum for a moment. on: July 26, 2011, 08:37:04 AM
didn't you add me to your personal shitlist when i was in the process of being scammed also? i think now you know how it feels to be the victim.

i'm truly sorry to hear you had so much shit to go through this past weekend. can't believe you had 100% trust in someone you barely knew. how much money in hardware did he run off with? well best of wishes to you, hope everything turns out alright.
2420  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: AOCLBF (was Phoenix Rising): Phoenix/POCLBM GUI With Built-In Overclock Tool on: July 24, 2011, 08:36:01 AM
Actually ive discovered a way to hide the osd. Simply set the box outside the viewing area of the screen. You can set it manually in the config file or set you screen to a higher like say  than usual resolution 1600x1200 then set the box in the outter most corner. When you resize the screen the OSD box will be there but beyond your view. I found it by accident moving my boxes around.

thanks! i'll try this and report back if it works or not
