2421  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buying Drugs with Bitcoin ? on: July 14, 2016, 06:12:20 PM
I think drugs could be easily bought with fiat as well , so Bitcoin is used normally for legal and illegal purposes, just like the other currencies.
thats true, bitcoins are no way special in this way because people can easily buy the bitcoins with fiat too, i think that no one can make anything about it so its better not to think about it

You would think it was just like fiat, until you realize that there will be a publically viewable record of this transaction until the end of time. Buy drugs with fiat, the transaction is over the second you exchange product for fiat. Bitcoin transactions will always persist, that's one of the points of this technology.
2422  Other / Off-topic / Re: How would you help with bitcoin? on: July 14, 2016, 06:08:08 PM
Provide micro lending and banking solutions for third world countries where the majority of citizens don't have a bank account. Security and user friendliness will have to increase dramatically, but when it does, this would be perfect for helping folks accrue value in third world countries. Everyone has a phone now.
2423  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: what happens to Bitcoin if internet goes down? on: July 14, 2016, 06:00:57 PM
As I've said before, bitcoin becomes  worthless as soon as you get outside of a wifi field. But if the entire internet of things is down, well, I think we have more important issues than bitcoin at that moment.
2424  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: New Trader Need Help on: July 14, 2016, 05:55:15 PM
Check out babypips.com. decent free course that covers the basics and some advanced concepts in full. Applies to forex, but is a solid foundation nonetheless.
2425  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How to grow my bitcoins by Trading? on: July 14, 2016, 05:28:55 PM
Speculate on the btc/USD pair, or some other btc/fiat pairing. Its actually gotten pretty easy to predict btc movements now that the market doesn't react to news so hardcore, and the relative stability of the price isn't that bad either. Ignoring our recent Brexit run up, of course.
2426  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: I've got $20k to invest. Please recommend! on: July 14, 2016, 05:26:41 PM
Honestly, just parking this in bitcoin will probably be your safest and most profitable bet. Halving just happened, prices should see a gradual price increase over the next few months.
2427  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Why YOBIT allow to buy dead coins ? on: July 14, 2016, 05:23:23 PM
Yobit makes a commission in every trade, dead coins or no. They have every incentive to keep a coin alive as long as possible, they probably make decent loot on the pumps.
2428  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Could Steem be the Next Bitcoin? on: July 14, 2016, 04:54:26 PM
It will take many, many years before STEEM can approach the amount of trust and capitalization that bitcoin has garnered. This would apply to any new coin.
2429  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH price soaring. Are you going to move some BTC into ETH? on: July 13, 2016, 05:47:21 PM
so ethereum will be dead ?

lawsuits can be directed at vitalik, how does one sue the ceo of bitcoin?

Developer Claims Ethereum is Stolen Intellectual Property, Files Complaints with FBI

http://cointelegraph.com/news/developer-claims-ethereum-is-stolen-intellectual-property-files-complaints-with-fbi

I think that guy should sue the Ethereum and then we will know if he has any basis to do that kind of thing.

It depends on the Ethereum community's support of the hard fork, if they like it, then it will be live and well.

I think the community has already expressed support for the hard fork, the question is will speculators think confidence in the coin has fallen post fork? If you wanted your money back, you had no choice but to vote yes for the fork. So apparently the majority of the community wants cash, instead of ideological soundness. I'm not knocking it, I would probably want my money back as well, depending on how much I had invested. But speculators are going to ride this like a horse, and the people that are preparing to short this after the fork might just ruin the price. That would certainly explain why the price has been so seemingly propped up as of late.
2430  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How would you ride an obvious pump? on: July 13, 2016, 05:41:19 PM

Quick question folks.

Say... You see a coin starting to get hyped and pumped. You have a feeling it's gonna sky rocket, then implode. What strategy could you use to take a chance on it, while lowering your risk?

I was thinking something along the lines of a strategy such as removing your initial investment once you've doubled your money.

Would that make sense?

Don't join, wait for reversal and short that shit.

I hadn't considered this, I rarely short markets as it's extremely risky with the volatility in this space. With that being said, after every wave there is a crash. This is actually sleeping genius right here, consider actually using this strategy.
2431  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Betting on sport = gambling? on: July 13, 2016, 05:34:07 PM
For the record, apply this rule from now on.

Risking money on unknowable outcome for possibility of profit = gambling.

Risk = reward/time
2432  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: How to cancel transaction on: July 13, 2016, 04:28:02 PM
Unfortunately, transactions are real once you commit. Since you sent it without a fee, there is a small chance it could get dropped from the mempool if it never gets included in a block, but I seriously doubt that. You were meaning to send it, just with a fee; give it a little time as the transaction will most likely confirm eventually. It will take a little longer, but it should be OK eventually.
2433  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: I want my money!! on: July 13, 2016, 04:23:48 PM
Do you have the seed? If so then you can recover your wallet using it.

How can it be so stupid that if one forgets the password the money is locked away and nothing can get them back. It stupid, it is almost like stealing my money.

Then you shouldn't have used the password (or perhaps Bitcoin itself). It's working as intended and is not at all stupid.

This. Not rubbing salt in your wound, but this is bitcoin working exactly as designed. ACH has given us the impression that transactions should always be reversible. I tend not to agree.

I'd try to brute force this, you should have an idea of what the pass might be, and this will greatly reduce the time required.
2434  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is it a sin to gamble? on: July 13, 2016, 04:19:37 PM
It is not a sin for atheists. God, being an atheist is so awesome.

Sin or not, it is stupid if you try to make a fortune out of gambling. Same goes for killing people, stealing stuff, being a liar... You don't need them to be sin, they are just bad habits. :0

For the record, it's not a sin for Christians as well, it's dictated by the intent of the actions, as are most things like this. You can't tell me it's a sin to wager a nickle between friends over some small binary option of little consequence.
2435  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Why Etherium price is decreasing day by day ? on: July 13, 2016, 04:16:10 PM
Just  because the DAO be stolen, and I think the ETH will be rise slowlly!

It depends on the community support. If it still supports it after the hard fork, the price could rise very soon.

Yes Ethereum is of course a very nice project that is still in the baby stages.

U have to give it a little time and it will come again in the 1k-10k region or so Grin

~CfA~

Congrats, this is the most delusional comment of the day!!!!
Eth will never survive this, wake the hell up people!

If you read between the lines, you might find he think the Ethereum price will drop a lot from current levels.
No sorry, with 1k-10k I did actually mean 1000$ - $10000 USD /ETH.
This *could* happen within 3-5 years of time because the Ethereum now is still a real baby.
It will grow
~CfA~

actually i think ethereum will never go above its ATH anymore. and even if there is a small possibility it needs a lot more than just time. there are a lot of problems with it. like the massive amount of manipulation this coin has and the fact that it is heavily premined and the price is being controlled strictly .

Maybe over 3-5 years I could see this passing it's all time high. But they will need the time to regain the trust they lost with this DAO shit. There will always be a 'hot new coin' and I think it will take a lot of marketing to make an older, 'failed' coin as attractive as 'the next big thing' (which was Ethereum, until the DAO dropped the ball.) Also, this coin price is as real as a free lunch. Swung like a blind batter before the hack, now it's stable despite the news.

'The Ethereum Foundation headquarters blew up today in an alien assault? Guess I should keep holding..'
2436  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The biggest issue of altcoins? on: July 13, 2016, 04:09:03 PM
Simply put the most of the alternative cryptocurrencies are fake /scam/fraud/ponzi, I don't see any future for any of them except
The first 20 coins in market.

Which sums up the issue in totality: the biggest issue of altcoins is trust. Longevity, and motivation. Bitcoin was built with no immediate profit motivation. No ICO, no crowdshare. And it been around how long, just now making significant traction? This is the definition of trust, and essentially people are going to stop chasing the blatant cash grabs and possibly support the alts that have has time to garner 'trust'. With all the coins already out, you really have to question the motivations of someone introducing yet another one.
2437  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bagholders regretting Ethereum? on: July 13, 2016, 04:02:58 PM

Up 1000% - you could not lose they said!  Grin

I'm sorry, while this is mean, this is freaking hilarious. You guys spend too much time Photoshopping, but dammit, the results are superb.

Some of the folks here are still enthusiastic about the future of this asset. I think those just might be the rosiest colored glasses in the world, but anything is possible with the price after this fork. None of us really know which way it's gonna go, I would have said down before but the commitment to holding this through hell or high water is strong with the eth camp. They just may spike it. Or the group of investors that has been keeping the price afloat these last few weeks.

Edit: upon reexamining the picture, it's the lack of hands that makes this funny. Has a kid Stretch Armstrong vibe.
2438  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Steemit how can this thing be workable long term? on: July 13, 2016, 03:56:23 PM
I don't know much about this coin but this coin is certainly in a bubble.
It has increased exponentially more than 10 times in a few weeks. If this is not a bubble, I don't know what is a bubble.

I won't touch this coin now as it is not impossible for this coin to drop 50% in a day.

I saw "STEEM" on an advert that popped up, I assumed I was looking at someone's Stream advert. It literally said "STEEM Sale", I thought they were referring to the Valve product (and the fact that the now accept bitcoin.)

So this is a coin? And why is the price so volatile?
2439  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum should I buy or wait? on: July 13, 2016, 03:53:09 PM
ETH is a joke. The devs were invested in the poorly coded DAO so they push for a do-over when it fails. They rush a soft fork that turns out to be poorly coded. Now they are going to rush a hard fork and hope the third time is a charm. Amazing they turn ETH into shit over a third party screw up. I am amazed it has not tanked much harder...

I just found this:

Ethereum is a running joke among Bitcoin experts. To the clearminded, it’s failure as an “investment” was always a foregone conclusion.

Here are some bullet points in no particular order:

A. Since transitioning from academic experiment to full-blown dishonest scam, Ethereum is laughed at at Bitcoin conferences.

B. For econo-math reasons, Ethereum is incapable of supporting “oracle contracts” (of which Augur is one). tl;dr How can “Rep” have a market cap, if the operations performed by the “Rep”-holders can be perfectly copied, for free? Therefore, market cap (and, crucially, the betting security margin) will be prohibitively low.

C. When Vitalik proposed Ethereum, the technical elite of Bitcoin were so impressed that 0% of them decided to endorse/join the project (compare this to hardware wallets, colored coins, stealth addresses, sidechains, elements project [confidential transactions, tree signatures, RCLTV], lightning network, and my own project).

D. The concept “don’t roll your own crypto” is very old, constantly-reproven, and universally endorsed. Crypto takes a very long time to get right; critical errors were regularly discovered in Bitcoin (which was actually a finished software product when it was published in Jan 2009) and continue to be discovered today. However, Bitcoin at least has consistent rules, and thanks to the Soft Fork the security can at least accumulate over time. With Ethereum, every contract changes the rules completely, and resets the potential chaos (For example, “Contract Z commits to ‘'’If contract X is created, auto-create the opposite of X and overfund it by Q.’’’ which disables contract X.” which leads to symmetry-gridlock).

E. Ethereum is out of money, the software will never reach a stable, usable state.

F. The Ethereum team endorses an even bigger running joke: proof of stake, which is also laughed at and compared to perpetual motion. There are reasons that Bitcoin embraced P2SH and LN, but rejected PoS, GHOST, etc.

G. Today, most people have still not heard of Bitcoin. Most that have, still don’t trust it. Quadruple that problem for Ethereum, as it has an even greater reliance on group(s) of people coordinating to switch to it.

H. Ethereum is strategically trapped: if they fail, the Ether will be worthless, and if they are successful, the project will be forked as a sidechain of Bitcoin (and the Ether will be worthless). They can only survive by maintaining “Goldilocks Success” and by generally being as vague as possible (which explains the overly-ambitious plans, countless buzzwords, endless promotional videos, etc).

Ethereum has only one use-case: quickly finding the most gullible “investors” people…those people who own Bitcoin but can’t think quickly enough to sort the signal from the noise.
http://bitcoinhivemind.com/blog/case-against-augur/

I am convinced, ETH is a marketing success and a total failure in the real world.

Slow clap. This pretty much sums up the Eth issue in plain speech. I'm not even going to bring up the centralization issues those 'oracles' bring when they report binaries to the block chain. I did not even consider the whole project could just be a sidechain, that would have made this much easier lol.

The marketing on this thing is something other coins, including bitcoin, can learn from.
2440  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Vitalik and Tual going to end up in jail? on: July 13, 2016, 03:47:34 PM
There is very little chance of them going to jail if this was truly an oversight. Only way I see jail time is if they find this way an inside iob, which is still on the table IMO. They will, however, may deal with some civil suitage after folks get their money back, and start feeling litigious.
