2421  Economy / Economics / Re: Does anyone care about the environment? on: May 07, 2022, 07:02:30 AM
If you're constantly up on the news, I'm sure you're aware of the scientists stage worldwide climate change protests.

Over 1,000 scientists from 25 countries took part in the Scientist Rebellion's demonstrations over a week ago.

How does this affect on the market? Or doesn't at all? On the prices of bitcoin?

The sooner we can move away from fossil fuels and on to renewables, the less there will be an argument against cryptocurrency mining on coins which use proof of work can be considered partially wasteful. The irony is, that a lot of the precious and rare metals used to create things like solar panels can be very damaging to extract from the environment, but hopefully they're used in a way that is more useful than burning up single use fuels. We're all sharing this planet which is slowly heating up, so should all be thinking about ways to save energy, because there have already been vast changes in the last few decades and we might even see the ice caps melting in the near future.
2422  Economy / Economics / Re: "...all of the bitcoin in the world for $25" on: May 07, 2022, 06:40:58 AM
Warren Buffet recently made a strong declaration that he wouldn't buy all of the bitcoin in the world for $25, and it gave us a better glimpse of how he really views cryptocurrency. He went on to say that Bitcoin "doesn't multiply" and "doesn't produce anything," which is true if you think about it, except what multiplies in BTC is its value. I wonder what would make Buffet change his perception of BTC. Or maybe he's just trying to influence the crypto market for a bargain buy.

Warren has been wrong about many things in the past and he has admitted this previously, he missed up on big investments in companies like Amazon and Microsoft. There is also a degree of technical illiteracy, he pretty much avoids investing in tech company and that investment in Apple was a big leap for him, but has paid off handsomely. So he can definitely make errors in judgement, but it seems he is just against the idea of a globalized currency and part of me wonders if it is in someway connected to his patriotism for the US Dollar as the only reserve currency. We're at the point where it takes a lot of money to change the underlying price of Bitcoin and he's right about it being unproductive in comparison to stocks or property.
2423  Economy / Economics / Re: Share your Money management strategy on: May 06, 2022, 08:50:49 PM
Many will argue about which one should be the priority:

1. Understanding the chart for best Entry and Exit

The best strategy for investment is to find a low cost fund, at a low cost broker and invest for the long term. It's pretty pointless for the average person to try to beat the market with active trading these days, because while it is possible - most will fail so unless you're willing to put in many years of research on the topic you should leave it alone. First off, you should try to buy a property - maybe the biggest that you can sensibly afford. Next you should put 90% of your money into those low cost funds that were mentioned, ideally in a fund that has shares in as many companies worldwide as possible, as this will lower your risk and give you the best return. That last 10% you could have fun with and maybe try to buy some speculative assets.
2424  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: PH banned online cockfighting - Worst gambling-related cases recorded! on: May 06, 2022, 02:31:15 PM
PH President Rodrigo Duterte has approved the recommendation of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to stop e-sabong or online cockfighting operations.

Online E-Sabong (cockfighting) is a legit and regulated gambling industry here in the Philippines. So much hype that many people got hooked on it even those who are not really into that gambling since betting here is so easy and different from the actual betting in the live arena.

The government is supporting online cockfighting here because it's a big help to support the economy during and after the peak of the pandemic. According to statistics, the government is receiving around PHP 60,000,000 (around $1,149,700 USD) per month in a form of taxation and revenue.

But since the hype of online cockfighting here, there are lots of recorded negative effects of gambling up to this date. Some people sold their houses, cars, gadgets, and even a "kid". There are also cases of missing several people on which today, there's still no good progress and that was all related to these gambling.

This was all brought up to the President and even though he was supporting the online cockfighting industry here, he ask his constituents to conduct a survey on the effect of this on all people. The result is WORST that's why ASAP, the President ban right away the online cockfighting and disregard the revenue the government is getting.

Let's discuss: (applies to all gambling-type)

- Do you think that your respective government will do the same even though that gambling is a big contributor to the government's revenue? It's a big sacrifice but no choice since lots of people got wrecked here and there are still unsolved cases of missing people.

- Is it really valid that we should blame the online cockfighting here that's why most people wrecked their lives?

For me, it shouldn't be stopped but should be more regulated strictly. I know there's a thing that can balance this but I don't know the specific term of it. Because of these irresponsible gamblers, the government's revenue got affected which should be a big help now that our country is just slowly rising after years of dealing with the pandemic.

It depends how you were brought up and what your society feels acceptable, but any sort of blood sport involving animals makes me think of a rather barbaric culture. How anyone can get any sort of joy or entertainment out of watching scared animals trying to win a fight to the death is abhorrent. It's one thing if two boxers, who have a choice, want to step in a ring and fight it out (to a certain point) but these animals are given no choice. In fact you could say the winner will only suffer even longer because they will get injured and have to kill more opponents. It's sadistic and unfortunately the Philippine government doesn't ban it outright and from the sounds of it they are making a pittance from taxing it anyway.
2425  Other / Archival / Re: Why has bitcoin adoption failed in El Salvador? on: May 06, 2022, 01:51:37 PM
Definitely the most significant event of 2021 was the adoption of bitcoin as a means of payment in El Salvador. Personally, I was initially skeptical about all this. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a bitcoin hater and I'm a supporter of bitcoin adoption because it develops the bitcoin ecosystem itself and opens up new uses for it. My skepticism was rather based on the very approach of the El Salvadorian authorities to this responsible step.

Even on the threshold of adoption, a wave of indignation swept over the country and people came out with pickets against bitcoin. It was at the end of August, right before the adoption:

There are all sorts of motivating factors behind what you say is the failure of Bitcoin in El Salvador. Firstly, the government tried to hurry the process along by basically forcing El Salvadorean's to fund a purchase of Bitcoin (through taxes) which was then given back to every citizen - basically just a vote buying attempt. A slower roll out, which focused on setting businesses up to process payments through Bitcoin in a really efficient way, would have been the correct way to do it or even focusing on the "send money from overseas and avoid excessive middleman fees" would have been a stronger angle to take on this. However some people in the country struggle to find work or even eat, so they're not too interested in this inanimate internet currency when they already have existing payment facilities.
2426  Economy / Economics / Re: Standard of living on: May 06, 2022, 01:47:29 PM
The prices of goods and services are increasing everywhere in the world, inflation being the major reason why, the physical and political war in Ukraine is also compounding issues for some specific countries, as we know if prices of commodities are high which they are, people will spend more money to buy the goods they need and pay for the services they want. Standard of living on the other hand is like a general term to quantify the economic well-being of people in any country, meaning if the prices of goods and services are high, people would be able to afford very little goods and services and that will make the standard of living to drop generally, and that also goes vice versa.

So i would like to know what the standard of living is like in your country now compared to five years ago. Was there any sharp difference in the standard of living pre pandemic and now. If there is a great fall in the standard of living in your country, have there been any move by the government and employers of labor to alleviate the sufferings of people. People who live in Ukraine, if you don't mind, i think a lot of people would want to know what it is like there too since the war began.

It's pretty crazy but the price increases only really started happening about 3-6 months ago within my country. Before that point everything was pretty stable, although obviously there were large increases in particular sectors like if you wanted to buy a new graphics card. I guess certain countries have it luckier than others and if you're living in a country that is slightly underdeveloped or poorer generally then any sort of price rise is going to hit you even harder. I now see prices moving up every few weeks even when going to buy things like food, which stayed pretty consistent in price for years before that, so it feels like we might only just be seeing the start of these price rises.
2427  Economy / Economics / Re: Get, Save & Invest. on: May 05, 2022, 08:49:26 PM
Get Money - Save money - Invest money.
Follow the cycle and don't stop half way.

Get Money- Popular opinion is that you need money to get money, any contrary opinion?
Once you have started getting money the next objective should be how to get more.

Save money- To save money is good, another popular opinion to support this is that , the money you save today will save you tomorrow.
The problem however results when you just keep saving money pointlessly without any plans on how what to do with it, The worse of all is saving money in fiat banks, that money will loose value in no time at all.

Invest money- This for me is the last stage in the cycle that creates more money for you to be able to get more money. More money betters ones opportunities.

Follow the cycle, don't stop halfway at saving money.

In my experience many people stop at the saving stage of the cycle that you've pointed out. There is a massive lack of education and a (very real) fear of the risk that comes with investing in the next stage. However it's kind of a paradox, because the longer you invest for the more your risk goes down. Like many things in life, consistency is key as if you keep investing the same amount each month you will be able to get through all the peaks and troughs in the market to get the average in the end. That average market return (which should ideally be an all-share accumulating fund) will be better than any savings rate you'll find at a reliable bank and is what everyone should be researching.
2428  Economy / Economics / Re: Looks like markets are crashing ! this is it ...it's the big one ! on: May 05, 2022, 07:09:29 PM
Looks like markets are crashing ! Hold tight !

What do you think ?

1920-1990 dow was moving normal ... after 1990 it skyrocketed ...it looks like some sort of bubble / pump and dump

You should be careful about trying to predict the direct of the market or how fast/deep the recession will go. What really surprised me however was the bounce back so quick after the war in Ukraine started - the picture never really changed, we're living with the first major war in Europe for over 70 years and it is leading to all kinds of devastation. That should have been enough to cause a much deeper dip than we saw, but here we are, still buoyant off the savings of a few that weathered Covid well. It seems insane to me that house prices continue to skyrocket by 10% per year while everyones household budget left over from a salary is shrinking massively. It will give, but it might take a year or two and be a slow deflation.
2429  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Where does your country stand ? on: May 04, 2022, 08:11:27 PM
I was sitting and wondering which countries might have the highest gambling rates and for me I thought it could be UK or the US but despite this I went on the web to do a rescarch on which countries gamble the most. Let's have a look at this, since this information might be interesting to you guys as well !

I was just as surprised as you guys since I did expect other countries to show up here as well instead of the ones that already did but you can recheck the same on the source : https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.worldatlas.com/amp/articles/countries-that-gamble-the-most.html
Other than that US , Canada,. Japan , UK are few of the countries known for their absolute support of the crypto casinos as well.
What about your country as well ??

This must be based on a per capita basis right? Rather than total number of people gambling, as some of those countries have rather small populations in comparison to the UK and US examples that you gave. I also see that you mention certain countries give absolute support to crypto casinos as well and think this is wrong. You'll often find that most crypto casinos refuse to operate in places like the UK because of the stringent reporting and financial requirements that are often unfeasible to online crypto casinos, it's much easier for them to just block visitors from such countries no matter how rich they may be. It's not really a strong metric to aspire towards and it's kinda nice when you come down low in such results.
2430  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Concern of illegal use of crypto on: May 04, 2022, 07:58:22 PM
Recently Indian Finance minister N.Sitharaman said Money laundering, terror financing biggest concerns around cryptocurrency...
What can be the remedial step to address this concern.

https://www.bgr.in/news/fm-nirmala-sitharaman-says-biggest-risk-of-crypto-is-laundering-terror-financing-1259977/

The only remedial step that will satisfy most governments, who currently have pretty free rein to view and monitor every transaction taking places with banks in their jurisdiction will be full traceability of funds. That means data sharing across the world on the scale of the current financial system, where it's possible to identify all inputs and all outputs to the system back to particular people (in theory). That is what every politician or official is talking about when discussing full transparency required around cryptocurrency and it's unlikely they would settle for any less. To be honest, that is required in order to match current existing financial standards which are fairly hard but not impossible to evade.
2431  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Hard earned money - Busted in seconds on: May 04, 2022, 07:28:50 PM
It depends on the gambler most of the rich people manage their money properly and know what they afford to lose in the gambling we know they are capable of doing it because they have a large number of it. Some of the gambling addicted already make a win and they want to try it again and some of them are already lost a lot of money and want to earn it back. We know how gambling makes a risk. It's all about high-risk rewards depending on the luck and players' strategy.

Yes, I agree. I have some rich friend who doesn't care about losing because they have too much. And as he said, he is not rich the money he used is for his other expenses and that will be a red flag for me, it only shows that he is getting addicted to gambling and if he will not stop that he will probably lose everything even that money that is not yet in his hands. Rich people know how to handle their money, some of them have their own financial adviser as well because for them gambling is just entertainment, and some others play to kill their time. Gambling with proper management is good.

It's actually kinda sad how they would rather spend that money on such a wasteful behavior instead of putting it into a more useful endeavor. But I guess the flip side of it is, they are actually spending it somewhere instead of just letting it sit and build in their bank accounts like some rich might prefer to do. The trickle down effect is tiny in reality, the dealer tips and keeping someone behind the drinks bar is probably only providing a few incomes to society. It depends how rich you are really, some people can give a lot to charity while frittering the same amount away on gambling. It's a dangerous addiction to fall into and even sillier when rich people are just chasing such a short term buzz when they stand to gain little else from it.
2432  Economy / Economics / Re: Is Elon musk's buying of Twitter fueled by Jack Sweeney?? on: May 04, 2022, 06:51:31 PM
We all know how rich and influential Elon musk is and if I'm not mistaken, he used his influence in promoting Dogecoin. Recently there has been a trending news of the 19 yo boy, Jack Sweeney who has refused to delete his account that tracks the billionaire's private jet and was offered by the latter $5,000 but counters with his own 50,000. This should be chicken change for Elon but it seems the man has other plans.
Come to think of it, is this move of buying Twitter another of his impulsive acts or is he afraid of Jack? Your thoughts on this, please 🙏 https://www.legit.ng/people/1453754-elon-musk-reportedly-offers-19-year-old-n2m-delete-twitter-account-tracking-private-jet-boy-wants-n20m/

I don't understand why you think that he would be concerned by such a small act, although he will mostly likely stop the account in future, it will simply show his need for control and poor ownership traits of such a large social media platform. All Jack is doing is consolidating publicly available information that could be posted in many other places and it will definitely move to a new platform if it ever got shut down. Maybe Elon is vindictive enough to want to hunt down where Jack is geographically located, if he doesn't know it already, but beyond that he cannot do much else. Elon should be more concerned by the illegal stock manipulation that he engaged in with his failure to declare ownership up to 10% - but the SEC has already shown it is weak to enforce the law.
2433  Economy / Gambling / Re: How to get Free games in china? on: May 04, 2022, 06:11:47 PM
Hello,everyone !
This is my first time to post on bitcointalk。
I come from china ,my English is not good ,most time,i need Google translate, thanks this invention。
I have read a lot of artcles here,i visited some online gaming websites, and test bcgame, stakes, free bitcoin etc, crash and mines are perfect games , i really love them!
Cryptocurrency let me enjoyed the funny on these gaming website.

A few years ago, when i could play real money on Pokerstars in china , its so difficult  to withdraw,
I need to sell my usd to other players,  a smart guy invent an application named”poker master ”
People could creat free club and invite friends play poker(gamble) together

Sadly China has garnered a very rough reputation in many countries and plenty of business owners will avoid interacting with players from the country because there are so many different types of abuse happening. There is still a lot of poverty in the country, unlike what the media would have you believe, outside of the big cities and people will to do all sorts of trivial things for tiny amounts of money. That makes any kind of freebie a no-go and the government definitely does not have a good legal infrastructure either, which makes it a wild-west where only Chinese nationals can benefit. You should probably ask around in Chinese forums where to make money in this arena because the great firewall of China and language barrier also makes it difficult to suggest things.
2434  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coinbase CEO Brian armstrong prediction 10 to 20 years from now. on: May 03, 2022, 08:59:53 PM
I could hardly believe it when i saw the news today about the prediction of the coinbase CEO, he said 10 to 20 years from now cryptocurrency will have a 1 billion users, well he has a point the people who has involed in crypto on year 2021 market is reaching over 220 million individuals very big numbers of people, so his prediction sounds logical for me there is a big possibility that this could really happen and i believe that this has a good effect on cryptocurrency prices, this sounds like cryptocurrency will be having a great future 10 years from now? This means many more country will be using crypto or what? Can i have your predictions? What is your thoughts on this statements?

Honestly, don't worry about what the CEO of "x" company is doing now or in the future, because they certainly aren't worrying about you. They live completely different lifestyles to the rest of us and will be in VIP world for the rest of their lives unless they are extremely reckless with finances (unlikely). The current CEO will be wise enough to have a large and diversified portfolio with a majority outside of the world of crypto. In fact most of his wealth will likely reside in the form of Coinbase shares, which will produce a steady growth or pay out dividends from the profits that are generated. It can be hard to dislodge a market leader, so that's most likely what Coinbase will be focusing on and trying to identify or buy up any potential rivals.
2435  Economy / Gambling / Re: What is a game you would like to see in an online crypto casino? on: May 03, 2022, 08:56:44 PM
Hey Bitcointalkers,

What games do you like to play (mobile, board games, easy game with friends, etc.) that you would love to see put into an online casino for real betting?

There have been a lot of successful yet simple games in online casinos like Heads or Tails, Over/Under, and more. We are looking to see what games you guys love and wonder if we can turn them into an online betting game!

Does it have to be a casino, or can it just be a sportsbook type model? Frankly I'd like to see a successful player to player betting house, which could accommodate all sorts of verifiable bets. Whether that is who would win the Eurovision song contest or who might be the next President of the USA? It seems like a model that could work well and "the house" could take a small commission from each trade, but they'd have to put the work in of verifying bets which might be costly. Maybe make it a variable cost system (depending on the bet popularity) so harder to verify or low traffic bets cost a greater commission than steadily traded and easily verified player bets.
2436  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Hard earned money - Busted in seconds on: May 03, 2022, 07:57:01 PM
It was almost two months hard earned money. Got busted in few minutes. I don't know why I wasn't able to have me within the limits. Just started with a $3 bet, but it went upto $98 and ended with empty wallet. This is completely unlucky, because every bets were placed to roll above 20 which means the winning probability is quite high. Anyhow I wasn't in control and I didn't follow the rule gamble what you can afford to loss. It was a money saved to repay a debt. Now once again the interest needs to be paid so to manage the debt for some more time. Unlucky me  Sad Sad Sad
This is why gambling is something that we should be able to avoid, maybe some people are lucky in gambling and earn a lot of money, but their addiction to gambling is not impossible to make their return to being poor, I think no one will be rich for long from the results of gambling because sooner or later of course bad luck will come to them, what happened to you is no different from some of my friends who had to end up in prison for not being able to pay debts and there were even some of them who had to end up on the streets, indeed gambling is a pleasure but if it becomes an addiction of course it will be a disaster.

Luck always runs out eventually, that's why Vegas casinos are so big and beautiful. Unless you are playing a skill based game or doing something like card counting, it's nigh on impossible to make a living out of this. From what I recall there is a small and quiet operation in Australia that is making money from mispriced odds on sports books, but they do this arbitrage at a huge scale - most likely to help bookmakers lay off their bets if they're allowed to do it long term. Besides that, you need a very keen eye to make any profit out of a sportsbook. You can make money from other games like poker, as long as you are playing at a higher skill level than the people around you - but they'll always be someone better so it is a high intensity game.
2437  Economy / Economics / Re: Crypto Exchange Bans Relatives of Top Russian Figures on: May 03, 2022, 07:31:06 PM
Binance, the world’s leading cryptocurrency exchange, has blocked several accounts linked to relatives of some high-ranking members of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s administration. The move comes as sanctions continue to rain on Russia in response to its military assault on neighboring Ukraine.

Among the users who have been denied access in the past two months since the Russian troops crossed the Ukrainian border are the stepdaughter of Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Polina Kovaleva, and Elizaveta Peskova, the daughter of the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

Binance also banned Kirill Malofeev, the son of Russian oligarch Konstantin Malofeev. The latter has been accused by Washington of funding pro-Russian separatists in Ukraine. Malofeev, who is on the U.S. and EU sanctions lists and wanted by the Kyiv authorities for his involvement in the war in the Donbas region, is a Putin supporter.

Binance revealed it blocked Peskova on March 3, when she attempted to use the exchange through a third-party brokerage. She was sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury Department the following week, the report details. Kovaleva’s account was shuttered on March 24, the day she was sanctioned by the U.K. Malofeev was designated by the U.S. Treasury on April 20 and had his Binance accounts blocked this week, the company added.

It looks like Binance is trying to get ahead of any possible bad publicity and possible financial sanctions from helping Russians. They must have been contacted by certain authorities and told to either start complying or they'll have a very bad time in future, judging by their refusal to cut Russian users off up until this point. There is also a pretty severe backlash against companies who continue to do business with this country right now and it seems like an obvious business decision, because they will likely make most of their money outside of Russia anyway. This sort of very selective targeting of users will also enable them to keep circumventing the sanctions as well, through networks of money movers.

World football’s governing body confirms collaboration with green blockchain technology company Algorand
Algorand will become the official blockchain platform of FIFA
Partnership announced by FIFA President Gianni Infantino and Algorand founder Silvio Micali in Los Angeles, USA
FIFA has teamed up with blockchain technology company Algorand to agree a sponsorship and technical partnership deal.

The agreement means Algorand will become the official blockchain platform of FIFA and provide the official blockchain-supported wallet solution. As per the sponsorship agreement, Algorand will be a FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ Regional Supporter in North America and Europe, and a FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023™ Official Sponsor.

The recent AFCON was sponsored by Binance. Blockchain network Algorand (ALGO) will sponsor FIFA, you can read more information about this on the quote or click on the link on the quote for the full news information. Crypto related businesses are getting more into the real world, this will favour Algo but also cryptocurrencies is becoming the trend in the world. What do you people see about this, with this more people will also know about cryptocurrencies.

There are a lot more cryptocurrency exchanges doing heavy advertising lately and moving into the sports arena, which have traditionally been dominated by the sportsbook and casino crypto advertisers. It's interesting to see the competition building up between different types of crypto companies, however it tells you that all of them have a lot of money to throw around. I'm always curious to look at and analyze the fees that they are charging customers, because at the end of the day that is what pays for all these advertisements. It might actually be better to avoid cryptocurrency exchanges that advertise on such big and unrelated events, because there will be cheaper companies out there.

Sportsbet has poker back? Or was it a private event?
I remember play two big tournament, one for 1 BTC that was sponsored by one radio of bitcoin i dont remember the name.
Nice to hear that many people from the forum can get together and have a good time
Anyone can say who was the better at poker or drinking or maybe the worst....?
seems hard to after a good weekend come back to normal life.
Glad to hear their are thinking in a long term.

It was a private live event - a few guys from Bitcointalk played alongside with Steve and some of the Sportsbet staff/friends in their 'mancave' in Estonia.
This round of poker went heavily on the side of Bitcointalk members and we even managed to put some of them away in a drinking competition - but not without our own casualties Grin

The best poker player of the night still did not write anything so I won't name him - maybe he prefers to be anonymous. Trofo might be the strongest drinker though.

I got lucky and came out tops in the cash game, however got knocked out in the tournament very quick! It was an epic time over there and highly recommend it if you get the chance, the free drinks did flow in the best underground private club, I'll head back to anonymity now  Cheesy

Greed is an extremely powerful force and many people think they can take shortcuts to wealth - for every one success in that way there will be 99 failures. People also seem to crank up the odds when they see a large sum, which is very poor bank roll management. You should take a step back from gambling because it seems to be generating some despair for you and costing a lot too.
