2421  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: AMD mining DEAD NOW with Bitmain E3 on: April 07, 2018, 01:24:13 AM
Do you think that AMD cards will be completely out of the mining game now due to ethash miners ? What is the future of Vega rigs now ?

Is there any possibility that AMD will manufacture a new gpu with mining in mind ?
Bitmain is coming up with these ASIC miners time and again and ordering these machines is another hurdle as they are not able to fulfill these orders in a long time, technology giants like Intel and others have started working on bringing new mining machines too, but it looks like it is difficult to break the monopoly created by bitmain as they are evolving with new machines .
Intel shows no signs of actually creating a miner by themselves besides their patent application that supposedly increases the efficiency of SHA256 miners (more information here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3225360.0). What you've posted is absolutely false in that regard.

According to this Reddit post here (https://www.reddit.com/r/EtherMining/comments/8aa64j/eth_core_devs_have_decided_not_to_emergency_hard/), it seems ETH will not fork in response to the new E3. Seems reasonable enough to me considering the efficiency and hashrate of these miners. I guess we won't be seeing a fork until an entity poses a threat in the form of a 51% attack as outlined in the post.

As for the effectiveness of investing into the bankrolls of a casino, the returns aren’t going to be enormous, but as an example Lutpin has a thread that documents investing into Crypto-Games (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2445163.0). Lutpin is closely connected to Crypto-Games, but the results he shows seem legitimate, and average monthly gains combined for all currencies you can invest with on their platform comes out to about 1%. It’s a nice source of passive income, but there always is a small amount of risk when you store coins in a third-party platform.

I’ve invested into Crypto-Games in the past and my investment yielded similar results as Lutpin has posted. I’m also currently looking into investing into Fortunejack; if I do so I will post my results as well.

I can also confirm the E3 is still up for purchase as of 4:18PM EST. Seems like the E3 has been going in and out of stock recently for whatever reason. They likely don't have many left, or Bitmain are increasing available stock for E3 on their website.

Debating getting one ...but then again my fuzzy math (a bit over) 50% to IRS anyway and 25% equip deduction in real cash applied to this years taxes (which I will have more

then enough for)

the risk is $225 above electric per unit....and they make what $4 a day maybe...sheesh..this is depressing..

so again my risk with my 'usual' set aside for the tax man... of 50% to the IRS and the state tax man (again a bit high with a 'cush') ..and that 25% equipment deduction

tempting price for a 'doorstop'...at again my tax angles and equip depreciation and of course the fact I'm mining more than a 2 dozen asic's (of many flavors)

as to newbies WITHOUT any large mining (my boat) or etc....my risk is like (with shipping/fees/etc) about 3 out of 4 it WILL work...your risk with REAL from the Job Income

and NO mining income to offset and IF you make enough for the 25% off taxes paid...is around 3 out of 4 of NOT working out...

also, this will only work for me at a certain level of mining income (which this year I've passed already...and of course crypto dumps and/for my capital gains etc)...

IF mining goes bye bye...my angles go away too...(back to hobby mining and heating the basement next winter)

thus I"M NOT SURE if it is worth getting for me!!...so only spend what you can afford....and keep that in mind when you read my posts on equipment

you reach a certain level of equipment and 'being stupid' has fewer consequences...then when I had 2 ASIC's in the basement...

anyway, still on the fence...likely they will be sold out by the time I get over pondering this...

stalling as a strategy can also be considered a 'wise' long-term strategy....but damn, hedging on what the heck prices for crypto are going to be ...is daunting...lately

brad

The situation with buying miners direct right now doesn't seem as bad as it was before the prices of crypto took a temporary dive a few weeks back, so you may still have some time before these things sell out to make a decision. I'm personally not taking the gamble on these E3s for multiple reasons though the price seems attractive.

I'm glad people aren't rushing headfirst into buying miners anymore, though, which could explain why these aren't selling out instantly like most miners were previously before crypto took a temporary pluge. Nice to see people are actually doing some research on profitability now as the figures don't look too great, especially for a pre-order that will take many months to arrive. Buying this is just a gamble more than anything.

The first batch of the E3 seems to be back in stock on Bitmain's shop site if you're still interested in buying one of these machines. Shipping date and price still remains the same as before.

Don't forget if you're buying one of these that noise will likely be comparable to an S9/D3 or any recent Bitmain miner. They're industrial miners for a reason, these things aren't made to be low noise. Nothing regarding specs outside of hashrate and power consumption has been released yet, but I find it unlikely these will be anything near quiet given the design and Bitmain's past fan choices.
2427  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Replacement s9 fan on: April 04, 2018, 01:34:01 AM
What temperature was your machine running at previously before swapping the fan out? It could be a heatsink related issue or you might potentially have a faulty fan. The fan speed's definitely weird on both fans, I would let it run for a bit more and if it hits 90 pull the miner. There's something off here but I can't quite pinpoint it.
2428  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Replacement s9 fan on: April 04, 2018, 01:09:55 AM
The fan type seems good and the temps are decent. IIRC the intake is the slower fan and the faster fan should be the exhaust on S9s. Things look good temperature wise, I'd continue monitoring things for a bit more before leaving the S9 on its own again. I do notice fan 5's at more than 6000 and that seems abnormal for S9s though I don't work with them often- 6000RPM should be the max for QFR1212 fans.

I was travelling for a few days recently so I had a gap in posting, but I'd love to join this signature campaign. I typically don't post a lot in the gambling sections, but I can make an effort to do so.

We'll see if ETH actually forks like they've been talking about recently, that's the one thing I'm actually looking out for with the release of this miner more than anything else. This is a legitimate GPU killer like everyone else has already mentioned here, interesting that the sources reporting on this a few months back were actually right about the E3 existing.
2431  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Preventing rust on the Antminer S9 on: April 03, 2018, 01:11:40 AM
For out of warranty repair Bitmainwarranty is going to be your best bet, they're reputable and I've ordered parts and currently have an S7 hosted with them that has been up continually for about 5 months with no issues. Their new MyRig.com site isn't the greatest and they've stated that they are migrating from Bitmainwarranty.com for months now, but things are still broken there. Besides that, they're a good choice for repair.

Lightfoot (a user on this forum) was doing repairs for multiple miners including the S9 a short time ago. I've been off on break recently so I don't know if he's still doing board repairs for the S9, but there's a good chance he still does.
2432  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: March 28, 2018, 01:48:37 PM
If the current rewards continues riding at under $0.50 / per day / per TH, I do not suspect difficulty to keep increasing.
Just look at bitcoinwisdom and their difficulty predictions... We should be holding at roughly where we are for the next little while. The next prediction has it as going up by less than 1.5%.

I personally think what has happened in the last 4 weeks when it comes to ASIC machine costs, BTC price and difficulty is great for weeding out those that were trying to make a quick buck and great for the long term health of the [Suspicious link removed]dluck trying to flip those S9s purchased for $2000+ USD now...

I just wish that the ASIC machines on the market right now were more robust. I find it extremely strange that Bitmain won't offer brand new hashboards. They would honestly make a killing and would make more money selling the parts than the whole units themselves. I could see them having no problem selling S9 boards for $400US and they would sell hundreds based on the fact that there are countless people out there right now out of warranty with dead hashboards in their machines.

They can also just force people to buy new miners which makes them more money still, which is what they seem to be doing. I don't know when the last time they sold hashboards and parts for miners was, but I think they stopped around the time of the S7. Repair services like MyRig/Bitmainwarranty are out there and reputable, and it is possible to find hashboards (albeit most are used) on eBay, though prices there seem to be upwards of $600.

Bitmain's got so many customers that they can afford to use cheap materials to make their miners cheaper and increase their profit margins, other companies like Avalon offer much more reliable and robust machines than Antminer units. It's sad but true. Their first few iterations of the Antminer like the S1 up to the S3 were pretty good, then they started falling from there.
2433  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: DragonMint B52 Blake2b Miner (March) on: March 25, 2018, 01:52:22 PM
kinda new to this shit so bare with me ... did any one notice the difficulty just went way up ? coupled with a decrease in value of sia, resulting in the profitability being HALF'D!  not even received my 2 a3's yet ffs and last night bought a dragon mint b52  im yet to mine anything in my life and alrdy getting my pants pulled down, can any one offer me any words of condolence ?

chek this shit
i think dragon mint sent 200 machines to a farm or farm way before any normal person received there b52
find the "siamining stats"
look at the hash rate go up by roughly 800 Th's, devide that by the 3.8Th's from each b52 and its somat like 200 machines getting switched on
im very open to being corrected on this as im new [like i said]

Thats how it is with preorders, by the time you get them price can crash or better miners get announced, etc.  I typically stay away from preorders due to this.  Good luck its a tough long game with minimg anymore
So you only buy items that are in stock, i.e you don't buy directly from Bitmain or Canaan, for example, as they are also preorders? I used to try to buy miners that were in hand, but prices for in stock miners were and are always incredibly high due to price scalping (I've noticed you have to pay a larger premium recently just looking at Computer Hardware). I'd rather take the risk of a price crash (Holding mined BTC in 2015 worked quite well for me) rather than an extended break-even period where similar things can happen.

Blake2B's a new algo and these things regularly happen on new algos. Take a look at the D3 and how it's essentially just a heater now. You took a massive gamble on the B52s, things like this are why I don't buy miners for less 'mature' algos.
2434  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Does CoinMarketCap (CMC) manipulates the market? on: March 24, 2018, 10:47:47 PM
Unfortunately that's what happens when pretty much everyone goes to the same site to view crypto price information, and when most other alternatives typically list fewer coins and/or are inconvenient to use. That a great read, I did know notice the circulating supply issue periodically when I regularly browsed the site, but I didn't think too much about it until now. I'm personally avoiding CMC until they acknowledge these issues and fix them; if you have any reasonably navigable alternatives that list the prices of nearly as many coins as CMC (not Bitcoinwisdom), I'll check them out.
2435  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain looks like they're releasing a 15GH/s DASH miner called the AntMiner D3 on: March 24, 2018, 06:32:40 PM
I’m personally surprised Bitmain’s previously restocked store sold out of D3s so quickly considering they’re useless except for being heaters, even with a $400 coupon they’re still basically useless at ~$150 after discount. They’re most likely trying to sell off any stock they have right now. Could that batch have been the last?

Also, new setup video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQOU1PLKerk

Maybe time to move this into Hardware?
Until Phil or someone else that isn't Halong makes an actual review of this hardware that shows these miners actually running with substantial proof, this is fine in Mining Speculation.

Keep us updated and put the review in Hardware when you get it, Phil! Can't wait to see how the DragonMint actually mines, and the moment when people realize Halong isn't an absolute scam after all Cheesy. It's been a while since anything of note that is legit has been released.
2437  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Wallet for mining multiple Alt Coins on: March 22, 2018, 04:21:52 PM
Got it.

So is the best current option to download the core wallets on an external hard drive and bookmark the addresses?
No, what I meant was to find your addresses on a block explorer online and bookmark the page. I do this with pretty much all my addresses on my Android phone and it works just fine. There may not be such services for some more obscure coins, but in my experience nearly every coin has an online block explorer. By doing this you don’t need to download anything and you’ll be able to see your wallet balances from any device capable of launching a browser.
2438  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Wallet for mining multiple Alt Coins on: March 21, 2018, 09:27:38 PM
I may be missing something but I can’t understand why a company like Trezor or Ledger hasn’t made a cold storage mining wallet that can hold a bunch of different Alt coins that has an app that allows you to view (and not send) tokens/coins.

Am I missing something that would prevent this from being possible and secure?
They just haven't gotten around to doing it. The Ledger and Trezor are both open source, so this is completely possible. You'll just need someone to create an application for it that runs on either of the hardware wallets and it'd work. Just viewing the balances of wallets is a job that's usually done by computers as exposing addresses usually isn't a huge security issue; just saving the link to the address of the coin you wish to view on an online block explorer and bookmarking that page should work just fine.

I assume this would also be a sort of Merit giveaway, though things seem to be limited to one or two merits.

The other sMerit giveaway thread seems to be somewhat dead with the last post being on the 12th of March, though I understand it's not every day people make merit giveaway threads. Part of the reason that the thread seems to be dead might be due to the fact that the OP of the thread updates it almost as soon as any giveaway comes up; the giveaway I just listed is already on it.
2440  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Wallet for mining multiple Alt Coins on: March 21, 2018, 08:44:51 PM
Exodus and Jaxx are probably your best options for a multiwallet, though I hope you're aware that multiwallets typically aren't the most secure place to store mined coins for a long period of time, and that you should always store coins in paper or hardware wallets (or an airgapped device) long-term. Trading alts to one coin (LTC,BTC) also increases convenience, which was what I used to do when I was in the possession of several mining rigs. I would store small amounts of coins on the pool until I deposited them to an exchange or used Shapeshift to change them to BTC.
