2441  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Crypto space: A Wild Wild West on: March 25, 2023, 04:07:20 PM
In order to gain a deeper understanding of crypto, new crypto investors should start with Bitcoin, and learn why it differs from other altcoins.

Knowing something about something and succeeding in something are two different things, and many beginners actually do not have good information about what Bitcoin is, let alone what makes it unique from other cryptocurrencies. The fact that there are tens of thousands of different projects that compete with Bitcoin means that there is a lot of room for profit, and how could it not be when millions of potential investors just want a quick profit and are not interested in any feature offered by Bitcoin or any other other coin/token.

Whenever I teach someone about crypto, I will only discuss Bitcoin, as this will give us both peace of mind, and prevent the possibility of losing money to scammers.

You can lose money even if you invest only in Bitcoin, because it is not a guarantee that you will not be scammed. There are so many types of scams related to Bitcoin, and to avoid them all you have to be really experienced and careful.

There are some weeks which I wouldn't feel like making 25 posts but due to the bucks that Best_Change pays me I'll strife to complete my weekly requirement. This is the fate of most signature participants, or does it pay to shy away from the reality?

Listen, I understand what you are talking about, but this forum was not created for the reason that members earn money from signature campaigns, because in the first years they probably did not even exist. Many of us came to this forum (including me) without even knowing what a signature campaign was, and I have been a member since 2015. I only joined the first campaign when I became a full member, even though I had something in my signature even before that.

As for the campaigns and their rules, I don't want to comment too much in that direction, but I never liked the "minimum post" option because it only forces people to behave unnaturally and do what they don't really want to do. You don't have to run away from reality, but then accept your "job" as a real job (even though it shouldn't be like that).

Just a note, I am not currently in a paid sig campaign.
2443  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Do Kwon arrested on: March 25, 2023, 03:00:23 PM
That's for sure. Just remember when someone warned him on Twitter few months before shit hit the fan how easily his stablecoin can get rekted and he mocked and dimissed the guy, instead taking it as a warning.

There is also that video in which he says that he enjoys watching companies fail, and who knows, maybe it's some pathological disease that culminated in him destroying even his own project. Although some information circulating on the internet says that this is not the first project he has failed, it is certainly the biggest.

Regarding them being roomates, won't Do Kwon be extradicted to Singapore?

His extradition was also requested by the US, now it's just a question of who wants him more, or better said, who has better connections in Montenegro. In case the US shows that they really want it, I think that their allies (South Korea) will make it possible for them.

Quote
A few hours after Kwon's arrest, US authorities accused him of participating in the collapse of the Terra/LUNA stablecoin, which caused the loss of around $40 billion in the cryptocurrency market, and charged him with eight criminal offenses, including securities fraud and conspiracy.

Do Kwon, who is wanted in South Korea and the US on allegations of fraud, has been apprehended in Montenegro, according to Interpol. Kwon now has criminal cases pending against him in both the US and South Korea, so it's unclear which nation he will be transferred to first.

Kwon's extradition to New York will be sought by US federal prosecutors, who have also stated that South Korea will request his extradition.

You were also right about the revocation of his passport, and it seems that it was valid at least until September 15, 2022, and maybe even longer, which means that he entered Serbia or Montenegro with his passport.

Quote
According to reports, South Korean prosecutors asked the regional foreign affairs ministry in October to revoke Kwon's passport if he did not return it by September 15th. It appears that Kwon's passport, which had not been returned by that point, was revoked.

But the next question arises - will the world economy switch to Bitcoin? And realistically, the forecast in the title of the topic - corresponds to the answer to the question "will the world economy switch to Bitcoin"?

I don't see any way how this could happen, because the world is centralized and the whole civilization stands on the pillars of centralized mechanisms. The question arises whether it is even possible to replace these mechanisms in a "painless" way, or an even better question - why would those who built them for hundreds or even thousands of years agree to destroy the mechanisms that enable them to control people, all because of something over which won't have even close to that kind of control?

Even if the western economy decides to no longer use the US dollar, pound or euro, what about all those billions of people who live in countries where Bitcoin is banned or is in some gray area where its use is not something that governments encourage. Again, for those who want to live in fantasy, they can always be improved in a very simple way - just add another zero. Bitcoin will probably be worth $100 000 000 one day Wink

Apart from the fact that you registered as far back as 2012, without wearing signatures, it's difficult to achieve 40k+ posts.

Why should the signature have anything to do with the number of posts? Those early adopters who mined with their computers or bought BTC at a price lower than $100 never needed to be in any signature campaign.

I asked because what I know about some old forum participants is at a time they will abandon the forum and some years later they'll return.
I read that some old participants left when there was massive spam somewhere 2018, which I assume there was no merit system then.

There was massive spam in the years before the merit system when some sig campaigns were even without a manager, everything was done by bots - you sign up, the bot accepts you, counts the posts at the end of the week and makes a payment. Those were really the years when spam flourished on the entire forum, now it's only a little camouflaged in some boards, but it's far from disappeared.

I don't know what exactly happened to those people who once fought for things that made sense, but when they first appeared in public with their ideas that Bitcoin is bad for the environment, it was more than obvious that they had become an organization that sold out to the one who pays more. But this is nothing new to the world of various organizations that fight for peace or the preservation of the environment, most of them are actually corrupt and apart from talking a lot, they do nothing in the real world.

It's just not clear to me how someone can publicly come out in such a way without checking whether the information about something they represent is correct or if it's a bunch of lies. Anyone want to bet what their next target is - maybe Christmas lights decoration Roll Eyes

2447  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2023-03-21] Forbes: $14 Trillion Earthquake: Fidelity And BlackRock Are Quietly on: March 25, 2023, 11:02:37 AM
Sounds like Revolut (they never added an option to deposit/withdraw crypto).

Please stop shitposting, the option for BTC withdraw on that service has existed since 2021, although only as a premium option. I don't know what the situation is today, but most of the people who use that service are not too interested in non-custodial service.

Besides, it makes no sense to compare these two companies, one is a giant and the other is just a small dwarf.
2448  Other / Meta / Re: Five legendaries you know with the highest posts/merits on: March 24, 2023, 04:16:45 PM
Alright Lucius, I obviously get your point as it makes a lot of sense to me though I never thought about all of that. But then, what do you suggest I should do based on your what you have just said. Any hint would be appreciated!

If you are only interested in statistics about ranks and merits, then I suggest you visit BPIP (see the post by @tbct_mt2), and if you want to know more about an individual member, I suggest an individual approach by starting to read posts from those members that interest you.

There is one thread that might interest you, although it is not only about members with Legendary ranks.

I strongly doubt that Micheal Saylor is trying to time the market.

It never seemed to me that he was looking for a good time to buy, although it seems to me that he would have been very happy if he could have invested a lot more money while the price was under $20k. Of course, his company already has a very nice amount of BTC, and when you have that in mind, it's easy to plan your next move. Be that as it may, even though Saylor remained optimistic even when it looked like the price was going to go towards $10k, I'm sure it's a lot easier for him today than it was a few months ago.

Based on that model, PlanB predicts BTC’s next top will happen around 2025, with its price landing between $100,000 to $1,000,000.

For such speculation, we do not need any plans B or anything similar, because the price will probably reach $100k, and certainly will not exceed $1 million. For me personally, the people who "play" with these speculations are no better than the one who first started them and got his 5 minutes of fame - and obviously others also want at least a part of that fame.

The value of BTC in $1+ million is something you can fantasize about, but it won't happen in the near future (at least 10 years), and maybe even then if the central banks and the super rich don't get involved in the whole thing. In addition, even if this happens one day, inflation will make $1 million have far less purchasing power than it has today.

Myself I currently have no knowledge of these supposed forum members and am curious same time excited to know, and am sure there are some others like me that would be eager to know too.  So please can forum members endeavor to post a screenshot of their profiles here to enable us acknowledge them. To avoid spamming I am limiting the number of legendary profiles to five (5) screenshots per post to enable us achieve the main aim/objective of this thread.
---

Knowledge is at your fingertips, and it's completely free, whether it's a forum search engine, the BPIP project or some other similar projects that analyze all forum members in all possible ways. I don't see how screenshots of any profile would be of any use to you or anyone else. In addition, the fact that someone has a Legendary rank does not automatically mean that it means anything on the forum. There are members with that rank from before the merit system who would never have reached that rank if that system had existed from the beginning.
2452  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Do Kwon arrested on: March 24, 2023, 02:37:02 PM

What you say is possible, although we know that Interpol issued a warrant for him very soon after the collapse of his project and at the time when the news that he was in Serbia appeared, his original passport should have already been canceled and I doubt that he used it. However, it turned out that even those who have a lot of money do not have to be intelligent, because people of that profile (internationally wanted) hire a private plane/ship or whatever and disappear without having any problems with border controls.

Rich and spoiled characters like De Kwon or Bankman probably consider all this to be a game with high stakes, and time will tell if the game was successful or if they will become roommates in prison.
2453  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: how will it be? on: March 24, 2023, 11:36:02 AM
If he have that amount when BTC is under $20k, there is a chance that he already have invested and he won't be here asking this question. 10 days ago is march 13 and the lowest price that time was $21k. That was still a good buy indeed but again what if he don't have a cash that time? Only $6k to $7k is the price that he missed there and I think that wasn't totally huge compared to what we will be having later on.

It is possible that he did not have that money before, but it somehow seems to me, considering his post, that this was not the case after all. Maybe he was just waiting for another crash to happen, because after the price fell below $20k, speculations started again about whether the price will reach close to $15k or even lower again.

As I already wrote, some people are so indecisive and constantly change their minds that good opportunities simply slip in front of their noses every time. That's why I wrote that for such people it is best to practice DCA because you don't have to think too much, every week or month you invest as much as you can afford.
2454  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Do Kwon arrested on: March 24, 2023, 11:21:48 AM
Well, who is to say that Serbs woulnd't arrest him with fake documents if he tried fly to Russia? But even if he managed to reach Russia, I am not so sure that he would find any protection in Russia as he is not Snowden or someone of that caliber so Ruissia has some actual interest to protect him.

I somehow believe that he would have done much better if he had flown from Serbia than if he had gone to Montenegro. A few months ago, there were rumors that he was last seen in Serbia, and it is logical to assume that he arrived in that country by plane and passed control at the airport. The question is how the facial recognition system they use when checking every passenger didn't detect it in Serbia, but it did in Montenegro?

Serbia is a country where you can get almost anything you can think of for money, and it also has direct flights with Moscow. De Kwon obviously wanted to travel to a slightly better location than Russia, and that cost him his freedom. As for me, let him rot in prison for the rest of his life, even though the damage he caused is measured in tens of billions of $ that no one will be able to compensate for, the fact that he is no longer free is still a small consolation for the victims.
2455  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2023-03-21] Forbes: $14 Trillion Earthquake: Fidelity And BlackRock Are Quietly on: March 23, 2023, 03:14:15 PM
To be fair, I don't recall ever hearing about Fidelity Investments before, but if that's true that they introduced Bitcoin and crypto to their 37 million user base at the beginning of March, that could've surely added some fuel to the recent mini-pump.

Never heard of them? Well, it's not like we didn't mention them on the forum in the context of Bitcoin, and even last year you could read the following: https://www.investopedia.com/fidelity-offers-bitcoin-as-401k-investment-option-5267984

However, I agree that 23 000 employees and 37 million users are not the same, but the question is whether the users will just suddenly decide to invest in Bitcoin for the reason that it was made possible for them by the company whose clients they are? Offer available in the US only.

In addition, for those who do not like to read small letters :

Investing involves risk, including risk of loss. Crypto is highly volatile, can become illiquid at any time, and is for investors with a high-risk tolerance. Investors in crypto could lose the entire value of their investment.
ETFs are subject to market fluctuation and the risks of their underlying investments. ETFs are subject to management fees and other expenses.
Custody and trading of crypto are provided by Fidelity Digital Asset Services, LLC, a New York State-chartered limited liability trust company (NMLS ID 1773897). Crypto is not insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation or the Securities Investor Protection Corporation ("SIPC").
2456  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Do Kwon arrested on: March 23, 2023, 02:49:46 PM
The Montenegrin Minister of Internal Affairs also announced the news on his T account, although the identity has not yet been confirmed. However, I am not surprised that De Kown was caught in Montenegro, because his last known location was Serbia, where he hid for months. He obviously had badly forged documents and thought he would pass under the radar - and if he had been at all smart, he could have flown from Serbia to Russia without any problems and been out of reach of anyone.

Well, that is great news, right? Montenegro isn't a part of the EU and is a small, quiet country, which is why Do Kwon probably assumed it was a good place to lie low.

That it is a small country is true, but that it is peaceful and politically stable is far from the truth. The country is actually torn between the local Montenegrins and the Serbs who, with the help of Serbia, are trying to maintain their political influence. Although I would put Bosnia and Herzegovina in the first place as a potential area where war can break out, Montenegro is in second place, considering that Russia also has an influence on everything that happens there.
2457  Other / Meta / Re: Changing password and mail wrong thing? on: March 23, 2023, 02:25:13 PM
Like Charles-Tim, I wonder if signing a messages with staked address is the only way to verify ownership of an account

It is not the only way, but it is perhaps the simplest. Another way is to analyze IP addresses, and if I'm not mistaken, only admin/s have access to this data.

A few years ago, a member got a permanent ban for plagiarism and then complained that the problematic post was actually from the previous owner, from whom he bought a BTT account. Admim then intervened and analyzed the IP addresses and concluded that the account had indeed changed owners at one point. It is not something that is done every day and for everyone, but it is possible to determine the change of owner in this way in some specific situations.
2458  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: how will it be? on: March 23, 2023, 12:14:43 PM
Bitcoin price is currently 28k and I have 5k usd fund which I want to invest in crypto currency, and want to make this investment for long term, want to wait until next ATH or touch current ATH.
~snip~

Simple question - did you have that $5000 a few months ago when the price was under $20k? Even if the answer is NO, you had an opportunity about ten days ago when a dip happened and you could have made a good purchase then. The problem with people who think like you is that they always think they can buy cheaper, and while they wait for that to happen, they miss every good opportunity.

Maybe you should consider trying the DCA method if you can't decide when is the right time to make a big investment.
2459  Other / Meta / Re: Changing password and mail wrong thing? on: March 23, 2023, 11:49:25 AM
~snip~

Of course, a BTT account can be sold without anyone noticing, because I saw in some of the threads that those who sell BTT accounts offer everything, including the private key of the signed address, and the password of the e-mail with which the account is connected. The only change can be seen in the IP address, but that's not information that we can see publicly anyway.

A signed message from a staked address does not necessarily mean that someone is the original owner of that address, but that he just came into possession of the private key of that same address.

Changing your password from time to time is not a bad thing, unless of course you replace a strong and unique password with a weak and predictable one.

What can this meeting and this hike in interest rate can bring up to bitcoin in the short and long term?

Let's finally learn how to reduce images to the appropriate size, so it's only about changing one number... for fast loading and for those members who have slow or limited internet.

As for interest rates, it was expected to be 0.25 or max 0.50, like last time, and I think that is a good sign in general. Of course, it would be best if they stopped doing that, but considering how deep they got into problems, they have no other choice. All in all, the price of BTC is returning to the levels before Kwon&Bankman, and considering that the banks have shown their weaknesses, part of the money must have been invested in Bitcoin.
