1501  Economy / Speculation / Re: The price of a Bitcoin could cost millions of dollars: Standard Chartered on: July 26, 2023, 11:05:55 AM
~snip~
Where were all these analysts before? Let's say 5 years ago or more. Didn't they repeatedly bury bitcoin and claim that is the financial bubble and empty shell? Smiley

Back then, they probably weren't interested in Bitcoin to the extent that they are today, or their opinions were drastically different from what they think today, which is why many try to let the past stay in the past. If we look at what Saylor, JMP or even BlackRock thought about Bitcoin 5+ years ago, then it is clear that these so-called "experts" are not exactly what they pretend to be.

As for this particular bank, it is nothing new for them to give their predictions, but so far they have not been very successful.

1502  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why bitcoin is the only cryptocurrency to be used as an investment asset on: July 26, 2023, 10:34:57 AM
~snip~
It will be better to look into other assets like stock, gold and real estate for an ideal portfolio diversification

I agree that it would be better to go in that direction, but you also have to understand that it is much easier to invest in cryptocurrencies than in gold, real estate, or stocks. When I say "easier", I mean primarily those who invest money in altcoins, and it is mainly about the younger population who dreams of overnight success, many of whom are minors and may not even have a bank account.

What makes cryptocurrencies attractive is the fact that you only need a smartphone+internet and some app to invest, which is much easier than buying physical gold or shares for which you still need a broker who will do it for you. If something is simple, accessible to most people and with the possibility of a possible big profit, then you don't have to wonder why it attracts so many people.

As of today's price valuation, the market cap value of total crypto is 1.17 Trillion dollars but bitcoin only has 48% of the total share which is 560 billion so the remaining 50% is invested in the so-called altcoins.
~snip~

Market cap does not represent investments, but only the possible value of coins that are often manipulated to make them look more attractive. Most of the altcoins market is just one big mirage, but people often see exactly what they want to see, until they realize that there is actually nothing of value out there.
1503  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Payment processor hacked, more than $23M in crypto stolen on: July 26, 2023, 10:08:06 AM
Who says that they are the best hacker group in the world?

How many big hacks (and smaller ones too) are connected to that group of hackers in recent years? It is incredible how media propaganda washes the brain by constantly repeating one and the same thing, because they always accuse one and the same group of hacking - just as they used to accuse one terrorist organization for every possible terrorism.

People should think critically about what is presented to them, but I think we have already passed the point where people were capable of doing that - it is much easier to surrender to the current of the media than to try to challenge it in any way.

1505  Other / Meta / Re: Deleting Several Previous Posts/Comments To Reduce Post Count... on: July 25, 2023, 03:52:52 PM
I think that deleting posts as well as writing them is a personal matter of each member, the same as what they will do with their merits or how active they will be on the forum. I understand that the OP has some "concerns" about how this can affect the overall impression when it comes to signature campaigns, but in the last 4-5 years (I'm not sure, maybe more) all posts are saved and exist regardless of whether someone deleted them on the forum (owner or moderator). I believe that no manager digs so deep into the past when deciding who to choose to participate in his campaign.

I remember one case in which a member deleted thousands of posts, and it seems to me that this is one of the most extreme cases of deleting posts on the forum.

This member has weird stats.
1506  Economy / Economics / Re: AI, Robotics ETFs Are More Popular Than Crypto in 2023 - Bloomberg on: July 25, 2023, 03:29:03 PM
~snip~
Looks like investors looking for new technology trends are now focusing more on AI than in crypto currencies.

It is quite logical that AI has become something around which companies and individuals try to generate profit and the media has raised it to the highest possible level because they understood what it is about. At the moment, everything related to AI far surpasses everything related to cryptocurrencies, and when we look at how easy it is to use this technology compared to cryptocurrencies, then it should not be surprising to us that the average Joe has a greater fascination with AI than with Bitcoin, especially when the price of BTC has been quite static in recent months.

The only question is whether the AI bubble will start to deflate at some point, because people quickly get bored of everything and are always looking for something new to occupy their attention.
1507  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How to find out the last EUR conversion rate update? on: July 25, 2023, 02:04:18 PM
@pxstein, is there a special reason why you want to change these values? I personally not sure that this can be done (maybe it is possible), but if I want to know roughly how much some amount of BTC is worth, I simply visit some of the websites that have long been known as places for reference values of BTC in various currencies.

Our member @bitmover has his own website where you can always see the value of BTC in $ or EUR, and many other currencies.

What kind of lawyer is he who doesn't know how to protect even a personal account on a social network? This event will surely help him get a few more clients, maybe someone from the team behind BtcTrash or even Faketoshi himself Smiley
1509  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Payment processor hacked, more than $23M in crypto stolen on: July 25, 2023, 01:09:24 PM
I'm surprised they keep that much money in hot wallets. In my mind, hot wallets are only meant for amounts you can afford to lose. It makes me wonder how much money they process if they consider this "pocket change".

Such things do not surprise me at all, and there are only two reasons why some companies behave so irresponsibly - because they themselves are irresponsible and unprofessional, or because at some point they want to hack themselves and blame someone else for it.

According to @ZachXBT, it looks like that infamous North Korean group Lazarus might be behind this.

When you don't know who's to blame, blame Lazarus and North Korea Roll Eyes It turns out that a country where less than 99% of people have access to the internet has the best hackers in the world - and what would happen if the internet was a common thing there? The whole world would probably be hacked Shocked
1510  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin - The road to a SIX DIGIT price valuation on: July 25, 2023, 10:42:15 AM

BlackRock wants to offer a spot BTC ETF to the market, which for me is something much different than the fact that they as a company have a special interest in Bitcoin or anything else except that their company increases profits. In addition, the part of their request in which they mention forks does not look the least bit friendly when it comes to Bitcoin, because they already suggest in that statement that they could choose any fork that would be more favorable for them at that moment.

Furthermore, why the fascination with the trillions of $ they manage as if all that money or at least some significant part will flow towards BTC? We can hope for some things, but we still need to be realistic and take into account the other two possible outcomes - and the first is that the SEC will not approve the ETF, and the second is that even if it is approved, it will not have too much of an effect on the BTC price.

Interesting point of view. So, are you saying that you have a Ph.D. in Mathematics and fully understand the elliptic cryptography (ECDSA), which serves as the mathematical basis for Bitcoin? Additionally, you have a Ph.D. in Computer Science and can review the Bitcoin source code. Or did you just finish elementary school and simply believe that everything I mentioned just works? So, what is your opinion on Bitcoin based on, knowledge or faith?

I honestly don't care about your fantasies and some made-up cults and 2.65 Order that you mention from the moment you registered on the forum, because it's just a bunch of nonsense that would have been better if it never appeared on the English part of the forum. Also, my education is none of your business, but you remind me of a couple of fanatics who spread the same theories years ago, and I wouldn't be surprised if you were someone's alt account.

You can continue your discussions with the member @Ucy who is known for his crazy ideas, and considering that he supposedly talks to God every day, he might be able to convert you to not being an atheist anymore Lips sealed
1512  Economy / Economics / Re: Federal Reserve launches FedNow instant payment service on: July 24, 2023, 02:47:35 PM
So someone thinks that the word "instant" solves all problems with the financial system and makes Bitcoin absolutely unnecessary? In that case, in some other parts of the world, Bitcoin has long been a "lost cause".

Having bitcoin is nice but let's be honest, it's not convenient to use. You can't even use it on ebay and why would you want to? I would use a credit card that has some type of cash back reward, not something that is going to COST me to use...

Maybe that's your experience, but mine is completely the opposite because I've shopped and have the opportunity to buy and pay with BTC for a lot of things, even food and everything you can find in a supermarket. It's a completely different thing that people don't want to use BTC as a means of payment and always find some excuse for it, because if we're going to be honest, most of them just want to make a profit and it doesn't matter to them at all why Bitcoin was created.

The FED just has to come up with a new slogan and BTC will go down in history (at least as far as the US is concerned) Roll Eyes
1513  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Michael Saylor a modern apostle like Peter and Paul? on: July 24, 2023, 02:06:32 PM
Personally, I am an atheist.

It's not that I care if you believe in the sun, the moon or some deity, but for an atheist you seem to know a lot about Christianity.

But please remind me, what makes a cult or religion so bad?

Religions were not created to make people bad (quite the contrary), but in the name of various religions (including Christianity) great crimes were committed and millions of people suffered and lost their lives. I will not go to OT, but will only repeat that it makes no sense to push Bitcoin in that direction.

Richard Thaler has proven that there is no mathematical model, no matter how complex, that could predict the price (i.e., the behavior of market players) of not only Bitcoin but any other asset as well. Therefore, no matter what your strategy is regarding Bitcoin, it will rely not on science but solely on faith. So why your Bitcoin strategy is not modern cult or religion?

I honestly don't care what he proved (or not), because Bitcoin is not a philosophy as you want to present it, it is based on solid facts, unless you think that cryptography and mathematics are also some kind of religion or cult?
1514  Economy / Exchanges / Re: How do big exchanges take care of cold & hot wallets? on: July 24, 2023, 01:41:28 PM
About 5 years ago, I read an interesting article about how a well-known CEX approaches such things, and since then until now something has probably changed (in a positive sense). Of course, it's not logical or smart to reveal all the secrets, because that would make it easier for hackers.

I would not agree that the security that should exist on CEX should be compared to the level of security that is present in the codes for nuclear weapons, because the latter is still far more sensitive and if hacking or abuse were to occur, it would probably mean the end of the world as we know it today.

1515  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Michael Saylor a modern apostle like Peter and Paul? on: July 24, 2023, 01:08:56 PM
@KalOlak, before using the forum it would be wise to read the rules of the forum, do you agree? In that case, you would know what rule 32 is and you wouldn't do what you are doing.

To begin with, I will just say that it is completely pointless and wrong to involve any elements of religion when it comes to Bitcoin, because we are not any cult, sect or church or fanatics from the underground who want to destroy the financial order of the world.

Furthermore, if you are suggesting that Saylor is like the apostles, then I assume that you consider Satoshi Nakamoto to be some kind of modern day Jesus who sacrificed himself so that the world could have Bitcoin? This not only makes no sense, but it harms Bitcoin much more than it helps it in any way.

It is your personal matter what you will think and how you will act in life, but I am guided by the old saying "Give to the emperor what is emperor, and to God what is God's."
1516  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: El Salvador has become the first country to make #Bitcoin legal tender! 🇸🇻 on: July 24, 2023, 12:49:58 PM
I read the news if El Salvador's economy is improving. After paying off $800 million worth of bonds that Moody's predicts will not be possible. El Salvador bonds surged 62% amid a rally driven by Bitcoin ETFs.
~snip~

I don't know if it matters to you at all how the debt was paid, but if you owe money to someone and then you borrow from another person to repay the first, you are still in debt, right? It is fascinating that at least 90% of the members of this forum believe in everything they are served, and only a few know how to scratch beneath the surface and see things as they really are.

And not a word on the $450m they took in a loan with Central American Bank for Economic Integration and the other $100m they took from the Inter-American Development Bank to pay $604 million in bond maturity.

But yeah, let's talk about 800 paid in full when in reality it's just $604 million paid with the help of getting 550 million in loans!
And from 800 we're down to 54!

1517  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbies Use this Tip to Avoid Getting Banned on the Forum on: July 24, 2023, 10:35:09 AM
~snip~
The tip I use to ensure that I avoid plagiarism is to always run my topics or comments through a plagiarism checker website.

If you create your own content, I don't see any point in checking it through such tools, because it turns out that you don't trust yourself and that way you're just wasting time. If you don't copy text from other sources and don't use AI chat, then you don't have to be afraid of being banned - the only thing that can happen to you is that your post will be deleted because someone reported it as spam, low value or repetitive content.

Therefore, I would advise you to review previous posts before writing a post and to definitely avoid megathreads in which there really isn't anything new to write.
1518  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin - The road to a SIX DIGIT price valuation on: July 24, 2023, 10:23:58 AM
Well whether that will or won't happen, it's truly out of our control. We will have our differences and our own personal opinions about it, but there's nothing that can be done about it. No one has any right to say how, or who, or where Bitcoin should be used, who should be using it, and where it should be used. Bitcoin itself is neutral.

You are not wrong with your thinking, nor am I completely wrong, but it would be better if it did not happen in the way I described, because it would be just another angle of attack, and one that could be used on a global level. It is true that Bitcoin consumes a negligible amount of energy, of which at least 50% is from renewable sources, but this does not prevent various individuals and influential organizations from claiming the exact opposite.

I think 500,000$ is actually realistic for the next bull run, the next bitcoin halving event could easily trigger the market to skyrocket, and based on our experience with the bitcoin halving it could easily boost the market price up to 1000% easily right after the bitcoin halving, if we are going to look at the bitcoin halving timeline chart we are going to notice the price increase right after the bitcoin halving.
~snip~

There's nothing wrong with being optimistic, but even the last halving showed that the price increase has significantly decreased compared to the one in 2016 when we had a jump from $400 to even $20 000, unlike the last halving which produced only x3.5 price increase ($69 000) compared to the last ATH.

What is certainly unknown is what will happen in the event that the spot BTC ETF is approved in combination with halving, and we can only guess what impact it would have on the price. Maybe the interest will be huge and hundreds of billions will flow into these funds, and maybe what happened in other countries where such an ETF was approved will happen, or in other words one of my local sayings could be used "the hills shook, a mouse was born".
1519  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The Impact of Bitcointalk forum in our lives on: July 23, 2023, 03:11:29 PM
It's incredible how some people want to appear smart and philosophize about anything and everything, and at the same time they are not even able to post a topic in the appropriate board on the forum. Topics related to the forum belong in the Meta board, and something like this topic doesn't even belong there, but in the off-topic.
1520  Economy / Speculation / Re: Could Bitcoin's Price dump to Halving? on: July 23, 2023, 02:54:49 PM
~snip~
The worst thing that could happen is that we are near the levels of $15,000, which is currently unexpected.

Maybe it would be bad news for some, but I'm sure that some others would welcome such an outcome of the situation with delight, because why buy for $30k if you can get it for half that and less than 1 year from the halving? Last year, many "experts" speculated that the price would collapse even to $10k, and many were waiting for that very moment and did not take advantage of the opportunity, which was more than excellent.

Of course, all thanks to that South Korean scammer and his "friend" from the US with the significant name Bankman, who caused a general panic and brought down the price. Now we are exactly where, in my opinion, we should be, and if nothing too important happens, I would not be surprised if by the end of the year we remain between $25k and $35k, which is more than a good starting point for a new bull run that will follow in the months after the halving.
