2461  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XMR] rpietila Monero Economics thread on: January 01, 2015, 11:59:55 AM
From my point of view:

There seem to be, some well known to be wealthy posters and some boards accounts that always suggested they are rich and own super many Bitcoins, that claim they support Monero fully and saying they (seriously) want the project to succeed.
But they dont give the buying support, that is expected after such statements.
Even in very crucial market situations, where are little could help the coin/price alot.

This make me wonder why? Consindering
-  the history (not so long ago), and remember what big amounts of support well known altcoins (e.g. LTC, Doge, Quark) and really bad ones got.
- Are just the sheer number of people claiming to support Monero.
- and XMRs low price (where the needed stakes to support where alot of cheaper vs. coins who got support)

Question remains, if Monero is special in not receiving buying support or are "the old days" of making supports buys for the altcoins you like are over.

It is not smart to support it much now since the emission is still high.
When emission is much lower, then the support will maximize the impact and the price will skyrocket even higher (more btc are available for driving the price to new heights thanks to not to wasting the bitcoins now).

I do not know if NDE for a coin is something we should be looking forward to.
In the case of bitcoin it was possible in early days as there was very little to no competition.
Currently there are hundreds of cryptocoins and the market is very competive.

I see it as a strength to have wealthy investors who are willing to buy significiant stashes of coin out of market.
They can sell their holdings when the price starts rising in small quantitives.
Remember, the more there are coins in deep frozen accounts, the less there is supply and thus the more likely the price will rise if there is increase in demand in Monero.
For a coin's marketcap point of view the strong hands holding large portion is essential, and on the contrary, if the coin is too diversified it means stability in price and the price will not rise more likely as many already owns coins and do not feel any urgency to increase their positions.
Ideally there need to be some sort of stability of coin's diversification and concentration. Too much concentration is bad for the coin's price and too much diversification is also bad for the coin's diversification.

About NDE: the advantage is that the big whales are able to acquire significiant amounts of coins from hoovering from hands to hands in exchange. The risk is however that the community's interest will drop as the coin price is sinking.

Time to jump out of the cliff?  Huh

I just love it when someone fucks up a saying.

Yes it was a bit sarcastic.

Is Monero's short term price outlook getting as obscure as Monero's transactions?  Huh Embarrassed Cry

The main challenge for 2015 is to get services/goods for sale in XMR to increase the value of the coin.
When there are merchants like Risto's Crypto Kingndom the marketcap of the coin rises due to the rise of demand for Moneros.
Monero is useful when it can be spent on merchants and when merchants are not dumping coins it allows the marketcap to rise.
Hence, people are able to demand more Moneros as they have places to spend them. For example, if I normally buy 1000 XMR a month (like average people do at current rates) for a store of value purpose only. If I know I am able to purchase something I need with Moneros I will buy more Moneros (over 1000 xmr/mo) and if the merchants will not dump the coins back to the markets immediately (or dumps only partially), it means the coin gets more value in marketcap- and pricewise.  Shocked
2466  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: December 28, 2014, 10:26:32 PM
The biggest bullish signal for long term in XMR is the quality of the community.
The quality of the community (early bitcoiners and well-connected people) is something which makes the coin succesful in the long run.
Sure we have volatility for short haul but the true BagHodlerstm are for long haul and will become rich if this succeeds (the odds for success is surprisingly high in this case).
2467  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: December 28, 2014, 04:05:20 AM
it's still just a Poloniex coin, with no real treats in software terms, and the secrecy claimed is a falsity. You buy Monero, you leave a trail of transactions involving dollars, bitcoin (or others) just to get it.

The posts have trailed off now, as people have realised it is useless. The shills have moved on, so we're left with a handful of hardcore nutters, desperate to kickstart it.

It seems so desperate.

I hate also paying 0.0016 for my moneros since I was able to buy some at 0.001 for a while ago.

Well not much time passed since "emission was extreme" so i sold half i had. Hope i dont regret it though.

Why did you sell?
Personally I didn't sell - I just was neutral for long and just during the past 7 days I have restarted accumulation. Low price accumulation means lower cost average.
And I am not going to sell until high.
Monero is not high now but too LOW if you consider the long term prospects (long term: 5 years or more).

The Shabbath is over now in Finland.
Shall we start buying?  Grin

Let's see if it makes new uptrend highs first (0.00144979), then I'll commit some..

Have to say I've been waiting for this, but hold your horses; who knows if it's a trap and we go back to 0.0009  Shocked

Yup patience is needed and the pullback is still possibility since the rise has been pretty fragile.

We have had bearish trend since June (a serie of lower highs). Those people who bought into the MintPal pump back then have faced like close to 90 % loss in terms of bitcoins and in terms of fiat even more due to the drop of usd/btc rate.
However it became clearly bearish this autumn as even the pattern of higher lows was destroyed.

If you have both lower highs and higher lows, then there is really no trend at all (except toward reduced volatility).

It was only since August that highs and lows both began to trend lower, and the downtrend became very clear and well developed.

I don't know the reason for this. My theory has been that by August we ran out of new investors, and original group of investors had accumulated as much as they wanted. The price needed to go lower to motivate some averaging down, and more recently bring in some new buyers who find the lower prices more attractive and less risky.

I don't have very high confidence that my theory is correct. There may be other explanations for it.

BCX could have scared away a bunch of potential investors.

People tired of waiting (maybe they bought assuming that the GUI would be released a lot earlier). Those people were in it for a quick buck anyway, so maybe better to not have them on board.

Selling in order to buy back lower.

New investors are interested when the coin makes new ATHs - These are the best times to get the most attention.
However to make new ATH is now very expensive (costs like several thousands of bitcoins when we take to account the fact that some people starts dumping in addition to Poloniex sell orderbook, and also emission is a bit high to do this expensive thing currently).
I think new ATH and a lot of mainstream media attention (like Bitcoin has) will eventually help a lot in getting completely fresh money into Monero.
The selling channel of Moneroclub is definetely something that will help in this since it makes the barrier of fiat-denominated people entering much lower due to opportunity of buying with SEPA-banktransfers or fiat-cash.

What will be the currency the CKG will be traded?

Do you need also XMR to play the game or is it possible just buy with BTC some CKG and then start playing (which actually supports BTC and CKG instead of solely XMR)?

CKG is an ingame resource and equity. You can only buy it with XMR ingame, and possibly in Poloniex also. Buying XMR with BTC is very easy.

So Poloniex is not going to add pairings of CKG/BTC but only CKG/XMR?

that would be nice Cheesy

Yup.
Otherwise it probably supports more bitcoin's demand than xmr since more people in Poloniex own btc than xmr.

BTC doesn't need that much support anymore since it is relatively established. Monero isn't yet.

Crypto-Kingdom development.

Crypto-Kingdom development is ongoing of course. The quarry subgame has been a great success and a preview of future engaging subgames. It was recently noted that the CK is on the third page of most viewed threads of all time in the alt area, and the thread is very active, so this ranking is sure to move higher.

There is a hint of a market-relevant development in one of the latest status reports.

We confirm the rumor that the distant land of Polonia has an exchange where some of our gold might be listed. If it happens, it will be timed to coincide around the release of V.4 playable online version, and the condition is that the existing characters transfer some of their gold there with the intention to sell it. Otherwise the liquidity will not be meaningful.

How do you see this affects on XMR if CKG is listed? Isn't it a competitor to XMR?

I don't think it is a competitor at all. To me it looks more like equity than a currency.

As for why it might be positive for XMR, that is indirect. Floating CKG might enormously increase exposure of the game, and the game is pretty much the only actual use for XMR right now. So I view this as CKG float -> game exposure -> XMR use and exposure -> XMR demand.

Hmm..

I'm confident it will die, it is unfinished technically, yet  the technology exists to finish it. So nobody with means is investing, just he same people. There s no need for it either, BTC is the only coin that has a chance due to familiarity.

XMR is niche, it has to stay small. If it attempts to dominate it will fail.

Nice try. I want the price lower, too.  Grin  Roll Eyes

I remind you there is a clear need for privacy and this is probably the only niche which btc doesn't serve - and it is kind of expected from cryptocurrencies.

Also I want to remind you about the fact that the current community is capable to buy it much higher price but we prefer buying it low (yes, current price is comparatively low if we consider My Target Price which is Moontm).

I just fulfilled my dream to reach a specific percentage of the current bitcoin supply, it took me just a little more than a year. Smiley
My next goal is to accumulate 0,1% of the current monero supply. For that, i will buy daily for 12$(that is everything i can afford  Roll Eyes). It's not much, and all you whales will make fun of me, but it adds up over time and I still really like the coin and the people who are involved in it. (and obviously the conversations in this topic)

Overall I think the current price is a great long term opportunity. Especially if you keep in mind the slowing inflation, the future development milestones and the need for anonymity.

Warmly welcome. Not the worst timing to start constant stacking.
2480  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: December 23, 2014, 12:48:35 AM
The next things aside with the wallet (other than mymonero) is to make merchant tools for Monero.
Then establishing webshops selling groceries, hardware, you name it.

If the webshops even keep some percentage of Moneros without dumping it, it will create marketcap for the coin since there is some value which the webshops create, stored into Monero.

I think the merchant tools and especially after that webshops are the largest challenge for 2015.

This requires also more liquid markets (which is enabled partially by Moneroclub btw).
