Here is a good chart showing the variance you get with 16 blocks:

source:
http://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/difficulty

As you can see we have already had sequences that would correspond to 8+PH, but that doesnt means we are close to it.  yet Smiley
2542  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Massive sudden rise in hash rate on: October 22, 2013, 04:31:07 PM
Its just statistical noise. On average, currently a block gets found every 6-7 mins, but it can be 6 seconds or 60 minutes too. And of course there is no reason you cant have several of those in a row. It will happen. Here is what I saw a few minutes ago (edit: heh, same sequence you posted) :

Thats not to say hashrate isnt going ballistic, because it clearly is. Its quite literally off the charts:

Smiley

But you need to average several hundred blocks at least to get a meaningful average.
2543  Economy / Services / Re: Gigamining / Teramining on: October 22, 2013, 04:15:58 PM
Dont worry, Im sure giga will offer you an upgrade to 'petamining' based on BFL monarchs that will ship in autumn 2014.
2544  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Next diff ? on: October 22, 2013, 04:06:03 PM
Its raining blocks!

7 blocks, less than 8 minutes lol.

Estimated Next Difficulty:   418,182,255 (+56.19%)
Adjust time:   After 764 Blocks, About 3.6 days

Looks like this one will take only ~9 days.
If this keeps up, the next difficulty after that will happen in the weekend of November 2/3rd and even the very first hashfast customers may start mining around 6-700M difficulty. Even if bitcoin goes up another 20%, thats gonna screw some people Smiley
2545  Economy / Securities / Re: [CRYPTOSTOCKS] Labcoin Official Thread - Self-Moderated on: October 22, 2013, 02:13:46 PM
9lives is just trying scare tactics. pretty desperate attempt. and pointless since Alberto's passport is already posted on this forum, and you can find farbrizzio just by walking in to zoppo's office  in Shenzhen.
2546  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Buying a KNC 550+ Yes or No on: October 22, 2013, 01:50:42 PM
actually you should make your calculations based not on the length of the order que, but it's depth, i.e. how many preorders they have. even if they can ship on time, that won't help you if they ship 5ph overnight. especially not if HF ships another 5PH in two weeks.

either you get screwed because they don't deliver or you get screwed because they do. the simple reality is that far too many preorders have been placed.
2547  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Next diff ? on: October 22, 2013, 10:19:43 AM
We are all doomed...

Nope. Only the ones who did not see this coming and where daft enough to preorder from HF, CT or even BFL.
The coins in my wallet are doing just fine, thank you very much.
2548  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Next difficulty ~390,000,000 ? on: October 22, 2013, 09:25:09 AM
Well if Bitcoin's price keeps rising, they could work out okay.

No they couldnt. The bitcoins they spent on the mining hardware will still be a loss. And dont give me that "but they paid in dollar" crap.
THe rising price is also inviting even more preorders, making the mid term prospects even worse.

Lastly, bitcoin is going up quite nicely, but hashrate is now growing by 4-5% per day. That means its currently quadrupling each month. And HF hasnt even begun.
NO way btc/$ is going to keep up with that.

For a taste of things to come:
Estimated Next Difficulty:   412,053,448 (+53.91%)

And that will likely prove to be an underestimation.
2549  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Next difficulty ~390,000,000 ? on: October 22, 2013, 07:19:55 AM
We will probably reach 1B difficulty by the end of November and if you think difficulty will level off in january I have a bridge to sell.
BFL may not have anything on 28nm by then, but they will eventually. Cointerra and coincraft will only just have gotten started, and I dont think KnC and Hashfast (not too mention Bitfury, next gen avalon, asicminer and other smaller players like btgarden, black arrow, activeminer,..) will have stopped.

2550  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Next diff ? on: October 22, 2013, 06:51:34 AM
With 2.8 petra hash the diff. needs to be ~390 million for the block rate target.
Only about 700 tera hash need for 500 million diff.

The difficulty change isnt based on the last hashrate, but on the average hashrate over the previous period.  So it will take a lot more than 700TH . To get to 500M at the next change, the network would need to have averaged 3.5 PH over the period. Since it started around 2.4 PH and was flat for some days, it would need to end  closer to 5PH.

2551  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast launches sales of the Baby Jet on: October 22, 2013, 06:18:43 AM
the relentless, exponential growth has surprised all of us.

It most certainly has not.
2552  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitcoin Difficulty Prediction Chart on: October 22, 2013, 06:12:19 AM
I own the website ^^ but it doesn't make it bad...)

No but its prediction seems to be based on the assumption that the latest hashrate will remain constant, and that does make it bad.
BTW, your difficulty curve is wrong, you spread the difficulty increase over 3 days, while of course its instantaneous.

This is the best difficulty predictor I know:

2553  Economy / Securities / Re: [LABCOIN] IPO [BTCT.CO] - Details/FAQ and Discussion (ASIC dev/sales/mining) on: October 21, 2013, 08:59:52 PM

And the point when someone dumped under 0.002 was right before the price went up.

I cant begin to imagine how sorry he must feel about that now.
2554  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast launches sales of the Baby Jet on: October 21, 2013, 08:57:40 PM
I'd rather take the one that is more accurate as of now and make my own extrapolations on how it will evolve. I realize it will likely be higher than 361 since KNC and others are still shipping and I'm taking that into account. bcw would have no way of knowing if they suddenly stopped though and the rate wasn't going to continue to rise.

Im not sure, but I dont think BCW assumes exponential growth either. Thats why I think the actual number will be higher even, probably closer to 450M.
But what blockexplorer seems to do is assume there is no trend and that hashrate will hold steady at the current level, and thats just not gonna happen. Even if KnC (and everyone else) stops shipping today, it will probably take those 5 days for all these rigs to be deployed.
2555  Economy / Securities / Re: [LABCOIN] IPO [BTCT.CO] - Details/FAQ and Discussion (ASIC dev/sales/mining) on: October 21, 2013, 08:48:26 PM
Ah Bitcycle, keep repeating those messages, you are our hero in this fight against evil.
Where would we be without you?

The 'are they a scam' boat has long since sailed.

If you seriously think they might be a scam, your ability to evaluate information is pretty near zero.

If you bring it up now, I automatically assume you have an agenda.  It's either that or you're stupid.  Either way.

To that guy who dumped under 0.002 right at the news-

Ha Ha!

Has anyone just picked up the phone, called Zopo and asked to speak to Fabrizio Tatti ?

Zopo phone: 0086-185-2080-5768

Or if anyone is in Shenzen, just drop in:

My racks are very neat and tidy at the back.

Even if its tidy. For instance if you have a bunch of these in your rack:

And somewhere hidden inbetween those is a sierra that needs a power cycle (using 2 PSU switches no less).
2558  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Buying a KNC 550+ Yes or No on: October 21, 2013, 05:27:30 PM
Oochh..  I c.

Which means a 550+ earning is more than halved if its delivered in 6-8 weeks Sad

No, revenue will be cut by 33% week, and then again ~10 days later, and yet again another ~10 days later. In two months, you will be lucky to mine ~7 BTC per month with a jupiter.

If you think thats bad, if you want an even more effective way to burn your bitcoins, buy some of those cex.io mining shares.

2559  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Buying a KNC 550+ Yes or No on: October 21, 2013, 04:50:07 PM
I really want to invest in gaining BTC.  I feel mining is the way?  Siting on BTC won't help me earn?

Your BTC holding have been increasing on average 1000% per year. If you want more, mining most certainly isnt the way there anymore. Its a good way to lose about 50% of your investment.
2560  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Buying a KNC 550+ Yes or No on: October 21, 2013, 04:46:19 PM
2)  I've done some calculations and it seems I'll re-earn what I spend in around 6-8 weeks even is the difficulty increases by 20%

20% ? Not sure if serious.

Next jump, expected in about 5 days is ~50% to 400M.
