2561  Economy / Speculation / Re: Dark Days ahead for HODLers on: February 28, 2014, 07:40:52 PM
I just realized that MtGOX has opened the doors for a completely new business models named "certification" of "insurance". This can be considered a good thing since we learn from the bad moments.

Certification
Isn't it time for a company with indepth knowledge of how to run a company that stores ginormous amounts of bitcoins to pop up.
This company can offer certification to companies willing to confirm to strict policies and procedures in handling bitcoins.
Companies like Bitstamp, Btc-e, Blockchain could then allow themselves to be certified so they can present the certification on the site.
This way we can trust that our bitcoins are safe if we use their services.

Insurance
Insurance amounts to nearly the same thing. A company willing to bail either "certified"companies handling Bitcoins.
Or personal insurance where you can get bailed out if a Bitstamp or BTC-e goes down like MtGOX did.
For X mBTC per month they insure you for Y BTC if a bankruptcy claim comes through and you can prove your BTC got stuck there.

Bitcoin banks
Companies storing and guaranteeing safe storage of wallets. You send password secured offline wallets through an SSL connection to that company.
Company stores it in some sort of vault and makes sure nobody can steal your coins.
Also providing retreival services where you request your wallet back and the wallets get streamed back once lifted from cold storage.

etc.

So HODL is good since we are really very early adopters. The technologies and companies are yet to come.

PM me if you want to buy the rights off me Wink
2562  Economy / Speculation / Re: Where do you store most of your btcs? on: February 28, 2014, 01:04:06 PM
Keeping the coins in an offline computer is considered a cold storage? Huh

On paper and USB (redundancy) in a vault is my definition of cold storage. Preferably two vaults in two sites if you have a lot of BTC.

Beware ... your computer could still fail.
2563  Economy / Speculation / Re: Where do you store most of your btcs? on: February 28, 2014, 01:02:42 PM
80% is on cold storage

20% in exchange

+1
2564  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: How soon before we see Mark Karpeles in court? on: February 28, 2014, 12:08:01 AM
If he solves the mess by finding an investor nothing will happen. If not he'll be arrested.
2565  Economy / Speculation / Re: bitcoin prediction? on: February 27, 2014, 07:04:24 PM
10k in 2016 Cheesy
2566  Economy / Speculation / Re: The Destroy Mt.Gox Cosnpiracy on: February 27, 2014, 01:50:08 PM
Mark want's out of the Bitcoin game... and his actions no nothing but amplify this. He has counted Gox's assets as 2,000 BTC and Liabilities of 744,408 due to ongoing "theft" that took place over a 5 year time span.

He is in a hole that is far too deep to climb out of, as there is no way in hell that he could ever recover that many coins. So he resorts to cheap tactics such as showing an invalid value of Bitcoin. It's in his best interest at this point to devalue the currency as much as he possibly can because for every $100 that BTC drops, he shaves $75M off from his total debt.

Mark is single handedly manipulating the price of Bitcoin... and will soon make a bunch of press releases to further tarnish the reputation of crypto by tying the demise of Gox to bitcoin itself

Good point! Let's &^%& over Mark. BUY BUY BUY!!! TO DA MOON!!!! Cheesy
2567  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What if Mark Karpeles IRC chat is fake? on: February 27, 2014, 01:47:13 PM
Everytime I go to the US I Always watch Fox News.
It's really good entertainment watching biassed dumbasses talking complete propaganda. Grin
2568  Economy / Speculation / Re: What if MtGox makes good? on: February 27, 2014, 01:39:57 PM
one thing i do not unterstand. I read at many sources that there are only 2000 BTC left.
But i have tracked the path of one deposit adress of gox in which i have deposited btc in dezember 2013. And the path is ending for example in this adress
https://blockchain.info/de/address/1FfdcppWbJ7FeQFznsjdLYNXdwMdoiTGSA
And there are over 10k btc...and this is only one adress.

This implies MtGOX has 10K btc and still lost 700K ?
2569  Economy / Speculation / Re: What if 700K+ coins have just been destroyed? BTC price to the moon? on: February 27, 2014, 08:16:35 AM
Maybe a lot of the coins of big whales on MtGox we're created through transaction malleability by sending multiple times to Gox and Gox kept upping their accounts.
This would mean that a lot of the 700KBTC could have been fake.... In theory this would mean they were never lost Wink

Maybe the new investor is having a look at whom has faked coins.....

Anything is possible....

I don't have gox coins. I consider myself very lucky...  Smiley
2570  Economy / Speculation / Re: Predict the next Gox revelation here and win respect from fellow forum members on: February 26, 2014, 09:04:50 PM
Haven't been on in a bit but did anyone notice the new update Mark himself posted on GOX?

Yep I noticed. Can't wait for the real information to come like

The coins we're temporarily unavailable but now they are "lost"
I put all your bitcoins on red and lost, wished I would have won to bail you all out
Life sucks get over it !!

Kind regards
Mark

2572  Economy / Speculation / Re: The end of the bubble... or is it ? on: February 26, 2014, 07:49:06 PM

2573  Economy / Speculation / Re: Predict the next Gox revelation here and win respect from fellow forum members on: February 26, 2014, 04:29:40 PM
OK my turn. I hope the following will happen. I have no money or BTC in GOX but it sounds like this is possibly going on which would be good for those goxxed.

MtGOX is in the process of being taken over by a yet to be mentioned (hopefully competent) party.
Investor has asked Mark to stop all forms of communication without approval of investor to stop any false promisses or problems.
Investor forced MtGOX offline to look into the exact depth of the mess and to prevent further hacks. Depending on the mess they will invest or not.
Investor is looking into a solution to all whom got goxxed.

If investors name leaks the deal is off since they do not want to be associated to this mess Smiley

Next milestones

- Site magically starts up again around 1 april with new rebranding (leaked fake document Cheesy)
- Directly followed by the presentation of new management including takeover announcement and a new CEO.
- With a new CEO Mark Karpeles can officially step down. He will officially appologise for the mess he made and take the fall for all the shit that went wrong. (In Japan I would expect him to cut off a finger or nipple like in the movies Tongue)
- A day or two later a plan for helping goxxed people get's communicated.
- Business resumes...
- Withdrawls get enabled in a limited fashion.
- Slow recovery and build new trust.....
2574  Economy / Speculation / Re: When will gox allow withdrawls? (Discussion with poll) on: February 26, 2014, 12:45:05 AM
In a month when it is sold to competent people.
2575  Economy / Speculation / Re: Mt Gox CEO Karpeles says bitcoin exchange is at "turning point" on: February 26, 2014, 12:36:04 AM
Karpeles said: "We should have an official announcement ready soon-ish. We are currently at a turning point for the business. I can't tell much more for now as this also involves other parties."

He is selling the company .... that's obvious Smiley

Hope that the company buying this auwful mess doesn't get Goxxed!.

That actually sounds a lot like he is selling.. Who would want to buy exchange with so bad reputation?

I would buy it if I were able to lay out all of the terms to the site member/customers, so that they know exactly what is happening every reconstruction, rebranding, and repositioning step of the way.  I would not buy it unless I had the actual cooperation of the membership.   Rest assured, everything would go up: service quality, security, rates, value, and appreciation.

Take special note, the price would be no higher than $1, but no one would lose a dime from insolvency or foul play.

If I would buy MtGOX for $1 (providing most money was lost and I am full owner from the GO) I would give out shares/dividend in BTC/USD to all people who have a debt.
This way you can repay everyone over time even compensating them if they have faith in the company over time. The company would remain to have money to operate.

Ofcourse hire capable people for running the show in a safe and secure manner. No more lost cold wallets Tongue
Hire a trusted external party(s) to regularly audit the company (incl. books) and take advise seriously.
Put up an apology to all people who got screwed over and commit to a repay through shares/dividend system.

Make internal changes like restaffing allmost everyone (atleast management and programmers).
Provide social media and good and regular updates of the status. Communicate to the world in an open manner.
Limit witdrawls and ease open the gates until a full free flow of money is allowed. (this is necessary to stop mass withdrawl)

I would not bother to change the name MtGOX, I would rebrand the logo to signify change in management.

But then again I've never run a company....
2576  Economy / Speculation / Re: Mt.Gox LATEST ANNOUNCEMENT 26th Feb on: February 25, 2014, 09:32:09 PM
i'll translate it for you.   YOU'VE BEEN GOXXED!

yes, there's a reason the word "goxxed" exists on urbandictionary.com

As a picture

2577  Economy / Speculation / Re: 750k coins stolen =7% of currently mined coins, belong to one person? on: February 25, 2014, 09:21:49 PM
The document was fake. You'd have to be a fucking retard not to work that out.

People said the same thing when it was released yesterday, but pretty much everything it said played out so far.

Lol we'll see if they reopen on 1st of April Cheesy
2578  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is that GOOD OR BAD FOR US? on: February 25, 2014, 07:12:16 PM
A hub-spoke topology for an exchange is a good idea.
The spoke exchanges send all excess money to the central hub for safety and order back as needed.
The spoke is the only exchange that is in contact with the people so a hack will not penetrate as deep.

Basically they are building the "Federal Bitcoin Reserve" Cheesy
2579  Economy / Speculation / Re: CONFIRMED: Karpeles bought Gox.com domain on: February 25, 2014, 06:55:20 PM
What did he buy it with? He has no money.

In other news, I have just typed goxxed.com into the browser, and it redirects to Kraken.

He has had your bitcoins Smiley
2580  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Update: Message at mtgox.com - no more white screen only on: February 25, 2014, 03:38:21 PM
Dear customer,

We have now sold all of our servers and have MtGox running on the parking page of our DNS provider.
Currently Mark is planning our getaway to a non-disclosed Island in the south pacific.
Once we arrive we will give you an update from a cocktail bar on the beach.

Kind regards,
MtGOX
