No one knows when ipo ends?

Just make sure that you do not send any tokens to the dev until this has been made clear and i have removed my buy order.

IPO doesn't necessarily end if smokeshares are traded on an open Nxt AE market.  You can invest anytime (at different price points).  Of course at launch, you will have to convert the smokeshares to smokecoins at which point the IPO would be over as the coin will be launched.  Am i right?

Yes that is right. After the investment phase has ended i will pull down my buy orders while i evaluate whether the dev has fulfilled his obligations. If he has than i put the buy order back up and he can fill for all of the shares that were sent to him, or anyone who decided not to send can just hold onto the shares and fill the buy order after i put it back up. but yes even during the period where i have taken down the buy order you can trade amongst yourselves.

Guys, I don't understand why Monero has 1135 votes on Hitbtc, but it is available to exchange now. How did this happen?

That was easy. Creators of the Monero bought "the place"on the exchange for its coins

Really? This is disgraceful! Although I'm not surprised because Monero team renowned for its scandalous behavior

What did they do that was scandalous?

Nothing, those 2 accounts are sockpuppets for the same person and BCN supporters lmao.

I suspected.

The price is to high 1btc = 600$+
hmm maybe a new price will Trezor is many people buy

Maybe help to make up for this by doing something that lets everyone know that the a preorder trezor is a preorder trezor. That way they will be collectable some day.

anybody else have a feeling monero is about to explode?

I believe it will really 'explode' when the emission rate diminishing kicks in heavily and the market realizes that monero is now as rare as bitcoin, it'll take time.

And new coin will be launched.

Naturally but http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_effect

This is the only reason any crypto has value. Without the network effect open source crypto currencies would be non scarce and things that are non scarce have a price of 0, but because of the network effect bitcoin clone != bitcoin original.

It has more merit than almost any of the cryptos ahead of it (except maybe nxt and bitcoin). Unfortunately though with out some flashy advertising campaign or some such this will only, at best, translate into slow and steady growth over time. Well see though. If andreas antonopoulos or someone big like that drops the M bomb infront of the right people it certainly could happen.

Does anyone know - is it possible to recover wallet info if I lost my wallet password? wallet.[bin+keys+txt] files is present.

sure just use that mnemonic passphrase that you wrote down when you first created your wallet.

I dunno about that, I think you'd still need to know your wallet pw after you recreate it unlock it, not 100% sure tho...

Cant say I personally tried it myself so I'm not sure either.

Re: payment id

Even if the merchant never changes your payment ID at all (or does so in an insecure manner) you can protect you own privacy by designating a single wallet for all transactions to the merchant and then funding that wallet from your "real" wallet using suitable mixing.

I've never been a fan of the pid feature especially in the half baked manner it is currently implemented but privacy-wise effective work arounds exist.

Careful there.  You'd be surprised how much can be leaked by even this.  PIDs are pretty bad.

A non-rolling PID gives away the distribution of customer payments to the merchant, and the number of customers.  An adversary with many nodes could, over time, learn the likely originating node for a particular payment ID (based upon where it sees it first).  If that per-merchant ID is hosted on the same machine as your normal wallet, you're leaking quite a bit.

Even a rolling PID eliminates the benefit of shattering the transaction into fixed-sized pieces for the purposes of mixing.  Nervous nervous.

Yup. Rolling PIDs are non-solutions anyway because an anonymous currency can't rely on third parties to maintain the privacy of the network.

My fear is that adoption and dependence of PIDs will grow too quickly before more robust wallet addressing ever gets implemented. At that point removing the Payment ID "feature" may be too costly.

I dont think we have to worry about it being too costly because unless we fix problems like this at some point than the coin its self will not have very much value to begin with.

And you know. You could always make a new address, send the funds there, and then send the receiver the private key. EZPZ problem solved.

better yet, why cant the service providers just make a unique address for each transaction. even easier.

I have seen IPO's where the "dev" released a complete piece of crap which crashed and still got paid. At least this dev is taking the time to make sure he releases a working product. I know the waiting's frustrating, but it's better than being handed a piece of crap.

yes this is right

I was just getting ready to fire back a heavy worded, not well thought out, assault.

But, it seems you guys are right. Monero should aim to be as private/anonymous as possible. Anything less is "giving in".

However, I got Very irritated seeing Anon136's response, it seemed like he only wanted the coin to do "illegal" things, that shouldn't be in the public eye. I believe in privacy centric coins, simply because we need them. In an ever growing, transparent world, were the government(NSA etc), are spying on every civilian in America, and in many parts around the world, we need things that would remind us that we are in control over our lives and our selves.

"than ill just take my capital elsewhere
", Hehe I may seem like a immature noob, but I also contemplate investing a sizable amount in Cryptonote coins, well over 300k, much contemplation, little time.

Heck yes i want people to be able to do "illegal" things. If the government says that all jews must report to the camps and that people are not allowed to hide them in their attic, hell yes i want people to be able to break that law. If the government says that saudi woman are not allowed to own private property than hell yes i want saudi woman to be able to break that law. If the government says that joe must fund some immoral war of aggression hell yes i want joe to have the tools necessary to break that law. Im not going to be coy about the fact that i want people to have the tools necessary to avoid exploitation at the hands of well armed tyrants. Im not ashamed of that. I'm not going to apologize for that. And i dont give a damn what other people think of me, or the technology that i use, because of it.

In that case, I should rephrase.

Maybe immoral would be better instead of illegal, since all the things you've listed are immoral by the governments themselves.

But anyway, you guys are right. I was too quick to judge.

yea unfortunately some amount of immoral things will come with this. it will help to facilitate kidnappings for ransom for example Sad. Its very sad indeed, unfortunately life is all about trade-offs and sometimes you have to make hard choices.

When Ipo will end?

Is each share 0.98 nxt, right? Excuse me: does it mean that theorically you could reach over 8.000 ( eight thousand) BTC? If 1000 share is almost 1 next, 100 millions of share are 847 btc ( if 1 next is 8500 sat). Am I wrong? If I m not wrong, it seems a bit exagerated. I m asking you this because I m not able to understand more or less how many coins I could receive in the worst of cases. I'm interested. So the starting price is more or less 1 smoke: 1 next? After, it will depend on how many btc you collect.

thanks

+1

the price is 1 nxt per share. i buy back at 0.98.

right now you could buy 0.01 shares and get 100% of smokecoin because no one else has bought any. its just divided evenly among each of the shares purchased. If 2 shares are purchased and you own one of them than you get 6.5million smokecoin. if 3 shares are purchased and you own 2 of them than you get eight million. ect... ect...

To whoever praised the Payment ID as a better alternative than multiple receiving addresses:

Multiple receiving addresses keeps anonymity intact in the blockchain, and thus will always be superior to Pay IDs. Payment IDs defeat the purpose of ring signatures and open doors for future regulation (businesses being required by law to collect Payment IDs for every transaction, etc.).

This is why I've said in the past that transactions should force mixin levels greater than 0. Any "features" that reduce anonymity in the block chain can be used against us in the future.

Payment IDs should be treated as a temporary solution until wallets are capable of creating multiple receiving addresses. At that point they should be removed entirely to prevent future abuse.

hear hear. this is not going to far. we dont need to fill the market niche of more transparent coins like bitcoin. we dont need to allow people the option to do things transparently. if they want that than they can go to bitcoin. we should be focusing on MAXIMUM anonymity and we should recognize that this will necissarily make transactions more expensive on our network than on bitcoin. but thats ok! this network isnt for average joe to buy his popcorn and dish soap. this is for people who need protection and are willing to pay for it. if you want to buy popcorn and hand soap, use bitcoin.

That right there makes it seem as if you just want anonymity to do illegal things only...Posts like that is what ruins it...The point of a "currency" is to be widely accepted as a medium of exchange for goods, so that means you'd want Cryptonote coins to start being accepted widely, for the regular joe. Your whole paragraph makes it seem as if you just want anonymous coins so you could go buy drugs...Smh.

You know what. The beauty of it is that we dont have to agree. If the devs of this project sacrifice the anonymity of users who need anonymity just so that it can have the flexability to do the things that we already have other cryptos for, than ill just take my capital elsewhere Smiley. We can both get what we want. Though i would posit that if you are willing to sacrafice the anonymity of everyone so that this network can be used like bitcoin, why not just go use bitcoin, it already isnt anonymous and it already works like bitcoin.

i jumped on the XMR party a few days ago.  looks like i didnt time it too well Sad  !!

me too

we should form a support group

You could call it the BBC.  Congratulations on your ground floor entry.  No one buys at the bottom.  Everyone has a drawdown at some point.  Yours will be much less than most.  Key is to keep averaging in.   Never sell until the next ATH+20%.  Then sell a smallish fraction to recover funds for the next dip, slowly.

You probably know my opinion: whoever wins the monopoly leadership for dark liquidity worldwide will rival bitcoin in the long run. We may just be owners of a significant fraction of global liquidity ten years hence.  Only time and hard work can prove it.  Do your best to build this economy.  Winning will make it worth the effort.

I think people in this thread may be overcomplicating the issue a bit. The truth of the matter is that monero is sill just extraordinarily inflationary at this point.

But yes. Its clear that an anonymous crypto is going to be a big contender in the future and ive looked at the alternatives. None stack up. If ring signatures actually work that is. I'm willing to take the gamble.
