What?? Bitcoin isn't going to $4000 anytime soon. Did you not know that a trading bot for MtGox made the price go to even $1,200? It was buying Bitcoins with fake cash on the exchange through a loophole every 5 minutes, that's what made the price get so high....With Mtgox gone, don't expect Bitcoin to go over $1,000 for a long time....it hasn't even begun to become mainstream yet.

Do you have a source?

As far as not being mainstream. That's debatable seeing how the Winklevoss Brothers have invested a ton and are putting it on the NASDAQ. And Pantera Capital has investors for $96 million.

But yeah, you can't buy anything at your local stores with Bitcoin. Yet.

Bitcoin isnt even very useful for buying things from local stores. The sign of it going mainstream is when it starts being accepted everywhere on the internet. Expedia and newegg are big steps in that direction.

Now providing escrow for this project through the nxt asset exchange.

Correct Asset ID: 1330812876208748634

Later tonight I will be setting up a bitcoin gateway on the NXT asset exchange so that people will be able to acquire nxt for this purpose without going through an exchange.

Download the NXT client here http://nxt.org/client-download/

I don't undestand how does it work
Usually i send you btc to your adress, simple, if it's a scam coin you send me back my btc
Now if i buy SmokeShare on the exchange and if it's a scam how can I be refund?

I keep a buy order up all the time. You can fill it with your tokens at any time for any reason. You dont even need to ask my permission. The buy order will be taken down after the funding phase for this project is completed and then replaced after the creator has had an opportunity to distribute the coins and i have had an opportunity to evaluate whether he has fulfilled his agreements.

One of the nxt guys is thinking about piggy backing onto of monero inorder to bring anonymity to nxt. Basically he will run an automated system where users will be able to buy tokens on the asset exchange representing monero. redeem the assets for monero. send the monero to the other party. he will exchange the monero for tokens. then sell the tokens on the asset exchange for nxt.

That should de-anonymize the transaction pretty effectively.

How? You dont need to deliver the actual public address to the server. You can simply calculate the 1 time address client side and transmit that to the server. The server its self wouldnt know who you were sending the monero to. And on the other side of the transaction, when you turn the monero back into tokens, they wouldnt be able to gather where it had come from on that side either.

I guess there is some risk since often the server would be receiving coins that it had very recently sent out. They could deduce some information there because of this. Its still just a thought experiment at this point. Constructive feedback definitely welcome.

last chance to cash out your darkcoin and come over to monero Grin
Sorry, but I prefer a coin that isn't fundamentally flawed.

So great to hear that you will be joining us then!

No but serious go ahead what is this fundamental flaw.
2593  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - Secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency [CPU/GPU(NVIDIA+AMD)] on: July 04, 2014, 05:37:48 PM
Its a brand new project that is completely different to BTC, in some environments that aren't standard 64 bit windows some degree of knowledge is required.

How does some degree of knowledge change that there is almost 500MB/day of network traffic required even when tx volume is negligible. Also I am seriously confused as to why the blockchain.bin files seem to be so much smaller than the P2P counterpart.
At this rate, by the end of one year the chain will be so large that it will exceed by 250GB monthly cap just to download it. Sounds like dangerous territory for the coin.

Chain isn't compressed yet. But thankfully, for now, it's slowing down people like you.

Ok but it isnt 500 mb per day is it? i mean it doesnt take me long at all to get caught up when i run my client after its been down for a day so i cant imagine that im downloading 500 mb in a minute or two.
2594  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - Secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency [CPU/GPU(NVIDIA+AMD)] on: July 04, 2014, 04:56:46 PM
Wow this is the worst coin. There are not enough expletives to describe my experience fully. All I want to do is mine and dump, but oh so hard. First I get miner, check, seems to work but pool wants an address. No online wallets available so try to use exchange address but they all need payment ID. Uh oh, so here comes the wallet.  Stupid mother %^&* website. Go to downloads, says "Links for the binaries, source and other are available on getting started." which is like not a huge puzzle, but wtf is wrong with the people making this thing. Better believe those linux binary links at the top dont work. Dynamically linked against some strange ass glibc and boost. Try to go to "compilation instructions" link, well that doesn't work either. Amateur hour!. So I try to download that script. Which gives no warning to the fact that it is about to modify your apt-sources and try to hard upgrade your system libraries to incompatible versions. Like guess what folks, I use my computer to run other programs other than Monero!

Eventually I got the boost source installed and built, but monero never built fully. Suffering from some linker errors. I tried many different git revisions with same trouble. Finally give up and decide to use win32 binary inside of VM. Fairly painless to get an address using simplewallet. But now I want to send this crap coin to the exchange to drop it like it's hot. Not so fast in Monero land. Seems a blockchain.bin cannot be downloaded for 32bit windows for some reason. Which is nominally fine since even if i had it there seems to be no explanation of where to put the stupid file, so I decide to do the old fashioned sync. Well this has been going on for some time now, and my VM has downloaded over 40GB!!!! of data for 78 days of history. It already filled up the disk and I had to start deleting things. Although deleting the actual blockchain when this nightmare is over seems unlikely as I can't %^&* find it.

Please blow up this coin so I don't have to mine it anymore.

All those other coins you are mining are just forks of bitcoin. They come built in with years of professional development and polishing. This is a new project with new code. Polish and user friendliness will come. Right now the devs are more focused on developing a solid core before making it accessible to every joe dick and harry.

It will be astonishing if there could be a way to side-embed this with bitcoin (decentralized), or at least conjugate their payment terminals to each other (centralizd). Any idea?

I recognize you from the nxt community. How long have you been involved here?
nice ROI

thats a little bit of an understatement. you may literally be a legit guinness book entry world record holder. Cheesy

anyway yea me too. this is my first foray since my involvement in nxt. cryptonote really seems promising and monero the most promising among them.
Unfortunately monero is a bit pricy now to buy a huge pack from, but I bought some..
Anyway for me this one is more of an interesting project to involve and follow than an investment vehicle.

I personally dont pay too much attention to price. I try to focus on everything else besides.

do you own any yet? if not post an address.

Thx, I've just recently bought a few on Poloniex after some friends showed me to this thread about XMR.  We were all part of a KNC mining Group Buy where the administrator ran away with our money, but I've picked up some amazing contacts in the process.  We are still communicating in a brand new Skype Group, mainly raving about XMR's potential.

I've added tip addresses into my footer now  Wink

your xmr address isnt working for me and i dont think its a problem on my end because i tried sending some back to myself and it worked fine.

Please add me on skype @ thestatdude. We have a small XMR fan group as well.

Anon, can I earn some tips?  Wink

Well im not really giving tips per say. Its donations to people who are just getting interested but dont own any coins yet. I gave away 0.9 monero to like 10 people over on the nxtforum thread because i knew they would almost all be new Smiley. I could perhaps be persuaded to donate some nxt to you though since you would probably be new to nxt. You have to download the client though, no exchange addresses.
