2581  Economy / Economics / Re: Are Renewable Energy resources the future? on: September 06, 2021, 08:00:56 PM
What many people do not understand is that a fast transition is not going to be possible, there is too much money invested in the current technologies that we are using so it is going to take a lot of time before renewable sources of energy become the main source of energy around the world.

However as long as we can implement them and make a more efficient use of our energy then we are going to see improvements on the environment, and once enough time passes then a full transition will be possible, however I think this will take 4 to 5 decades at the soonest.

I agree with the first part, but not with the last. 5 decades is just too far. We don't have enough fossil fuels (including natural gas) to sustain us for that long. The big change needs to come in the next 10-15 years. Energy from renewable sources are getting cheaper with every passing year. I can give you an example. Solar electricity had a break-even price of around $0.40 per KWh just one decades ago. The same stands at $0.08 per KWh. And in the next 10-15 years, we can expect this to go down even further.
This is also an important factor, fossil fuels are being rapidly draining in the past few years, I don't think we have that much time. An interesting example can be found through Worldometers.info, showing that at this consumption rate, the oil reserves will have diminished within 47 years(https://www.worldometers.info/oil/). There needs to be a rapid change in the way we work as a society, starting from the simplest of things, such as reducing plastic waste, recycling and so on.

Take a look on Worldometers, again, there are statistics of how much coal, natural gas, oil there's left, while how much of the energy used today is coming from renewable and non-renewable sources.

https://www.worldometers.info/energy/
2582  Economy / Economics / Re: Are Renewable Energy resources the future? on: September 05, 2021, 04:38:47 PM

Shifting to renewable energy will hinder the advancement of the countries that are developing. You will see that the poorest countries today still have oil to extract from their soil. It would be a waste for them to just let this oil be unused when it's worth a lot of money for their people.

They could gradually do it but machines need burning power that wind, thermal and solar energy couldn't provide. How are they going to develop trains all over the parameters of their country if they are not going to be using fossils? It will be unfair for them.
How much of the total energy produced is made from renewable energy resources? I'd say less than 20% or 30% at most. The shift from fossil fuels to renewable sources will take many years and will happen gradually. We won't see much in terms of advancement till 2030, at least.
2583  Economy / Economics / Re: A way to make money online? on: September 05, 2021, 02:31:37 PM
I've recently tried Picoworkers, it's a platform which has a variety of micro-tasks, from simple, such as visiting a website for a certain amount of time, or up voting a Reddit post, to paid surveys and signups. It looks like a pretty decent platform, which you could definitely earn some money, is it worth your time though? I'll leave that for you to decide. Particularly for me, it's not bad, but it's not great either, if you have no other means of generating some kind of income, it could be worth a try, since it requires no skills at all.
2584  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Religion in the society on: September 05, 2021, 01:06:12 PM
I'm against religions and also an Atheist myself. They were formed in order to explain basic common knowledge, which could be proved using science. Stephen Hawking had said, that there's no way to prove that God doesn't exist, however, science makes believing in God pointless.
This only applies if the science we are talking about is the well known "real science", but there is social science right now that makes believing in something, somehow increases the capability of a person. For some instances, it can somehow relieve someone from being alone and left-out.

In my opinion, religions sparked a lot of hatred between nations (Or other religions) and were the main cause of war. (See Jihad, as a modern example, or Crusades)
Don't state it "in opinion" when history states a lot of wars and battles due to differences in beliefs/religions. It is a fact.

The world would definitely be a better place without them.
If we use logic, there will be no world without actual religion. There will be atleast one (1) specific religion that a "ideal world" may have. Cause religion is something about a social construct that if someone believes into something, there is this enticing force that drives us to join what he believes in, and without contradicting force, we all will be force to believe in one same thing.
That is correct, it's actually a fact that plenty of wars were started or had something to do with religion, like I mentioned previously. Personally, I never had the need to believe in something that can't be proved to exist. Nonetheless, I find it pointless, even in dire situations to even refer to "God", it would be a hypocrisy, can't recall doing it once in my lifetime.

I consider myself lucky because I believe in God. I received my religious belief from home later I went to church to complete my religious education. I am Catholic and I respect all religions because they are based on one God, I can be friendly and share my beliefs with them without fanaticism.

The sad thing in my opinion are people who do not believe in God, it is difficult for them to make them understand that God exists.
There are things that happen on earth and in the universe that still have no explanation and come from God.
If someone is an atheist please believe in God because he exists, he manifests himself in many ways, you know that he is with you especially when you suffer from any disease and you leave them in his hands.

I describe it this way because once I got sick I didn't have many financial resources, just a treatment I felt very sick and I said to myself if I don't heal with this I don't know what I'm going to do, and I asked God a lot for my health and I felt the healing hand of his son Jesus.
My testimony may sound unreal but I felt my healing that way, perhaps it was the power of my faith, but I felt the presence of Jesus one night when I asked him to heal me.
What you're describing could also be a placebo effect, your faith can actually make you into believing that God actually did something, but that couldn't be further from the truth. I'm not here to argue about the existence of God, however, most situations can be scientifically explained. Science will admit if it's lacking the knowledge to explain something, while theists will simply claim that it's "God".
2585  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Dead Coins on: September 05, 2021, 11:43:38 AM
I do, a few months ago I discovered an old unknown wallet.dat file. I was curious to see what it was, I supposed it was a Bitcoin or Dogecoin wallet, since those two coins were the only ones I was accustomed to, approximately back in 2014-2015. Tried recovering it, but to no avail. I made a thread here to request help, and soon enough, with the help of the forum, I recovered the wallet, which at first looked like a Bitcoin Gold address.

Unfortunately, the wallet wouldn't sync, on top of that, I was accustomed to BTG in any way, so it made me suspicious. Googled the wallet address and guess what, it was Garlicoin. I had mined a few of them quite a few years ago, they were worth something back then, but now they are pretty much worthless.

I've also found a few tokens in my Ethereum wallet, Kakushin (KKN) and one more I don't even remember.
2586  Economy / Economics / Re: Are Renewable Energy resources the future? on: September 05, 2021, 10:02:55 AM
I believed that renewable energy will be a great solutions to heal our mother earth and stop or lessen global warming we are experiencing right now. We already abused this earth that's why the nature itself is already demanded the price of what we had done. With these act we can still give our children a better world to live in in the future.
The good news is, that the ozone layer is healing, that's what I've read at least. Not sure how accurate it is though. We have abused this year's natural resources already. The pandemic also lead into fewer CO2 emissions, but it was only temporary.

We're way too dependent on fossil fuels, which have adverse effects to the environment, hopefully, this is due to change the new few decades.

We should also look through ourselves, do we care for the environment? Simple actions such as picking trash from the beach, recycling and reducing our vehicle usage can really made a difference, if are widely adopted.

2587  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is bitcoin a good investment in this pendamic situation? on: September 05, 2021, 04:23:02 AM
Not sure if Bitcoin was a good investment in the pandemic, however, I had plenty of time through this whole situation which was favorable with cryptocurrency in general. It was definitely a decent opportunity to take advantage of the extra time and out it towards Digital currencies in general, not just Bitcoin.

I conducted several investments throughout the pandemic, but it doesn't necessarily have to confine Bitcoin only.

I'm pretty clueless on how to continue from there, as I haven't decided what I like or can see myself doing in the future.
wait , did you personally chose the course or your only forced by your parents ? because there are doubts in your sentence  .
i think whats next after your finish a study is you apply for a job related on the course you get . thats how you gonna see yourself  but if your not happy with that , you can get the course that you saw  .
if i have a time and money i will also take crypto or blockchain course more than the usual courses because they are more interesting .
That's quite a long story. When I chose my BSC degree, I wasn't sure of what I wanted to do/study, thus, I went with it without too much thought. It's a combination of poor choices and mental health complications.

I dunno why but for me, I dont choose any major just for a future career because I found my self always get job in another field which is different with my background major. So, if you choose the major for master degree I just suggest one thing. You have to know well ur self, what do you want to learn more spesific or what thing make you interested then you choose it. Dont think that how about career or another things, thats just a side effect which always change.
Well, the issue is that I'm not inclined towards something particular, I still haven't made up my mind on what I really want to do in the future, choosing a master's might also be a mistake, if I don't find what I really want to do.
2589  Economy / Economics / Re: Masters in Blockchain and Digital Currency on: September 04, 2021, 11:48:03 AM
I'm now graduating from a BSC in Business Administration, and as I've mentioned in another thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5355827.0), I'm pretty clueless on how to continue from there, as I haven't decided what I like or can see myself doing in the future. I've stumbled upon a Master’s Degree, in Blockchain and Digital Currency.

The knowledge you can get from those expensive university degrees, you can also get from a varity of online course which mostly are also offered by notably universities for a part of the money. Just look at MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses) sites like coursera.org, edx.org or udacity.com. They all offer courses and certificates in the blockchain space. Some are even free.
That's definitely true, I've used sites like Coursera and Edx.org before, however, the free version only provides you with the course's content. If you're willing to pursue a verified certification/degree, you'll have to pay an additional amount of money to receive it. Yes, you'll have all the contents of the course for free, but you'll be unable to display its completion on your CV.

They are a great learning tool, though, I've enjoyed every course I've enrolled into.
2590  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Just in case on: September 03, 2021, 03:42:14 PM
When people talks about diversity in crypto space they only point at big projects and small projects combined but no one ever talk about their life savings, I've seen people putting all they have into crypto and yes they have more than 5 coins in their portfolio but is this the smartest move?

Personally I think the smartest move is to have some funds offline as well, if you know what diversity means then you should be smart enough bro know that nothing is guaranteed, have some money 💰💰 offline and some online (crypto and other), putting all your eggs in one basket is bad and too much of everything is also bad
My cryptocurrency savings are completely separate from the money I'm using on a daily basis. I recently acknowledged what you're saying, except the diversification of portfolio. Funds should also be allocated in different sources/wallets. I had all my funds from DeFi (Expect Bitcoin of course) in one wallet/account on Metamask, my account was compromised and risked losing everything.

Taught me a lesson, I'm now trying to allocate my assets within 2-3 wallets.

Did you create a fresh account with a new mnemonic phrase, or you are using the same account but just a fresh address with the old mnemonic phrase?

If it's the latter, then your assets might not be safe in case the person has the mnemonic phrase. It means that all the addresses you will create under the account are compromised.
I've simply created a new account, it has a new address and private key, but is under the same mnemonic phrase. They have the private key, but not the mnemonic phrase. Can that be extracted somehow? Am I currently safe?

I don't know how I dun goofed so badly. I'll definitely get into details when this is all over.

Under the same mnemonic am sure whoever got hold of the keys can still access it because in metamask you can create more than one account with same keys, why not just quickly create a fresh account with new keys and push the coins while you still can, probably the person don't understand how mm works very well reason why your coins still intact.
It was never mentioned that the mnemonic phrase was the one that got compromised, they only got the private key, which is assigned to only one wallet/account. I've created a new account within the same wallet, which has an entirely different private key and address. There's no way he can find the 12 word seed phrase through it.
2592  Economy / Economics / Re: Masters in Blockchain and Digital Currency on: September 03, 2021, 11:27:39 AM
The world is crazy about crypto, if these courses are useful and in high demand, surely in the next twenty years, job opportunities will be extremely bright for those who pursue these fields.
If they have burning programs it would be better because the tuition fees of these majors are quite expensive. At least for now, when the pandemic is happening, the advantage of homeschooling is saving a lot of living costs. If possible, I look forward to online training.
Blockchain is a wonderful technology and Digital Currencies are an innovation to the modern world. However, I can't really understand where I could combine my Economics Degree with this Master's. I definitely cannot predict how such technologies are going to evolve, thus, it's highly doubtful to guess how I could possibly pursue a career in that field.
2593  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Religion in the society on: September 02, 2021, 09:46:52 PM

Hello,
I need immediate assistance, I did a stupid and now someone probably has my private key on Metamask, I created a new account and moved all my assets there. Am I safe or not? I noticed that the second account has a different private key. I literally have no time to explain right now.
You would be fucked up if the seedphrase of that wallet is been exposed since all of the addresses inside of that wallet would really be accesses once they do have the phrase

but if you do only expose the privatekey or the ones you had extracted on metamask for specific address then only those assets inside of that address would really be
only hacked not the entire batches of address inside that metamask.
I was lucky that I wasn't dumb enough to give out my mnemonic phrase. I really don't understand how I fell for such a scam. At least, I instantly moved all my funds and didn't lose a penny. The next day, the administrator of that Discord informed me that there were reports from quite a few people who got scammed, the largest of all was $68k!
Just like on what carlfebz2 was indeed on point and true on where as long you dont give out your phrase then other addresses would be safe.Good for you that you didnt give out the phrase or else all of those assets
will really be wiped out instantly. This do actually proves out that no matter how experienced you are there are still situations on where we do really get confused or there are situations where we know but still
got slipped and skipped which cause for some exposure of our precious keys.Be careful on next time because you wouldnt know on what comes next but at least this is really a lesson learn.
Fortunately, I didn't have the mnemonic seed in hand, I'm not sure if I'd given it if I had immediate access to it. In the future, I'll definitely create a completely fresh wallet, I don't want to get any balance on the compromised wallet by mistake.

I'm not experienced by any means, definitely not a newbie, I've received quite a few messages on Discord but always ignored them, I don't know why and how I fell for that.

This is common in most discord groups.

If somebody is asking related to wallets and other stuff, some strangers will randomly message you and will tell that they're the support of that group.

Never ever entertain any of them next time.
It did look fishy, I'm still trying to figure out why I fell into such a scam. The funny thing is that after reaching the official WalletConnect group, I was messaged by another scammer who was trying to give me directions into "encrypting" my new wallet. What a petty scam attempt.

Never trust anyone on there.
2595  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [Updated] Phishing wallectconnect [30/7/2021] on: September 01, 2021, 03:16:43 PM
I put my private key there, because it wouldn't automatically "authorize". What a dumbass I am. Fortunately, my gut instinct kicked in and the very next second I did that stupid move, I moved all my funds to another wallet.

Be safe, do not trust anyone and never input any confidential information EVER!

You have to edit that link to unclickable to avoid another user access it

Code:

that could be a lesson for you and everyone to recheck and always learning in the next time.

the website was created 14 days ago which purposes for the scam.

Alright, changed it. It was definitely a lesson learned, I'm not responding to any messages I receive from unknown people nor am I going to give out such information ever again.

I was one of the lucky ones, that at least immediately realized what a stupid thing I've done.

Did you create a fresh wallet with a different seed just like what Bitcoin_Arena said? Your funds may not have been stolen but I would also suggest to dump that wallet with a compromised private key.

...
I don't understand how I fell for such a scam, I feel like an idiot.
There are other people with years of experience in crypto who became victim of the same modus. Be extra careful and don't open crypto when you're drunk or tired.

I'll make another thread (In Reputation or Scam accusations, not sure) to warn other users and to share my experience.
I'm not stopping you but I think I've seen a lot of threads sharing the same kind of scam.
Thanks. Found the WalletConnect main thread and posted there, no need to make several threads for the same topic.
Can that be extracted somehow? Am I currently safe?
All your private keys can be derived from your seed phrase, but it's not possible to derive the seed phrase from the private key.
If one of your private keys has been compromised, other private keys are safe.

I read your previous posts in this thread, but I didn't get whether you have generated a new wallet or not.

As already suggested by others, create a new wallet with a new seed phrase, move all your fund to that and don't use the old wallet anymore.
In this way, you will be sure that you will never use the address corresponding to the compromised private key.
I've generated a new account/wallet on Metamask, it has the same seed phrase as the compromised one. However, it has a new address and private key of course. Since he doesn't have the seed phrase, there's nothing they can do to compromise my new wallet.

I don't get how I fell for such a scam, when there's even a thread about it right here. (I was just informed by another user about this thread). I don't get why I didn't look it up earlier before conducting such a stupid move. Anyway, do not trust anyone on Discord, and keep in mind that project officials/admins will NEVER DM you.

This was a lesson for me, I almost lost all the money I was talking about in my Bitcointalk appreciation thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5356169). It would suck big time if now I made a thread "How I lost all my money".

I hate wall of block but to tell you i read every inch of words you wrote and honestly this is a good story. Everyone have their own and yours is quite interesting. Investing is something we cant just do just like that and with ounce of courage we could earn a lot from it. Yes there are risky way but when we encounteres something we failed then thats the part where we get matured and learn from it. Thumbs up OP.
Thank you for your kind words, I tried to arrange my text and make the story as interesting and appealing as possible. This is an appreciation thread for what I've learned through the forum, it has really made a huge impact, words cannot describe it.
Knowledge is power indeed! You have come a long way and showed that desire through your story and this should be inspirational for those that have read this but of course let's not treat the forum more like a cash cow, this is place to learn and share ideas and we grow the community together.

Btw you talking about faucets just brought back some old memories  and I myself was so addicted to them it was one of the easiest ways to gain crypto at the time, men time moves so fast....
Those faucets, I wish there was a way to know how much they would be worth now. Thanks to them, I was introduced to Bitcoin and this forum, despite not having most of these funds, it was a great experience nonetheless.

A good lesson so far for me as well. Seems somehow you have been getting benefits from the forum by learning. Sadly before introducing myself to the forum, I lost a lot which is unrecoverable. Same as you, once I joined the forum and start learning about cryptocurrency then somehow I am getting benefits from here. Gain some trading skills, manage a couple of campaigns, and by doing the signature campaign. I have to admit I have earned a decent amount of Bitcoin from the forum although it's not life-changing but quite helpful.

I believe your story will motive others for learning about cryptocurrency. We always should keep in mind, the forum isn't any marketplace from where you can earn, but by learning from here we can earn definitely. Should learn and apply in life.
This website is the absolute tool to gain knowledge, experience, which may lead into an earning opportunity. There's a lot of knowledge around here and has even inspired me to delve deeply into Digital Currency and Blockchain.

You are safe according to:

~
There is no way to use any of the private keys to generate the master key or mnemonic. But the mnemonic can be used to regenerate the master key, chain code and any of the private or public keys.
~

My concern is how should you be aware of and remembers that particular address and privkey is already exposed(and shouldn't be used again) in cases you restoring the mnemonic phrase in the future.

Because of that, I think it's either you move all your fund to a brand new mnemonic or try just to make a note or something to notify the particular privkey is exposed.
Thank you, I was in such a panic that I didn't even look in which subforum I created this thread. I just woke up, my funds are still here, so I also guess that my second account is safe enough. For the time being, I will at least be cautious not to confuse the two wallets, it would suck to mistakenly receive money on my compromised account.

I don't understand how I fell for such a scam, I feel like an idiot. I was lucky enough that even when it was a little late, I trusted my gut feeling. I'll make another thread (In Reputation or Scam accusations, not sure) to warn other users and to share my experience.
