25921  Other / Meta / Re: How to avoid this kind of posts/threads ? on: February 07, 2017, 09:52:25 AM
I keep reporting that kind of posts whenever I saw that in any boards especially in bitcoin discussion
It's good for my "reported accuracy" Wink

Quote
What if all Brandnew/Newbie accounts cannot make a new thread or they can't make a new thread if they have below 20 activity or so(as long the account is a newbie).
Then they'd just spam existing threads, which makes them harder to spot.

I made a suggestion a while back that all newbies are essentially shadowbanned until their first post on the forum is checked by a moderator and they're whitelisted.
I've seen several forums using this system. Any idea why it isn't implemented?

Quote
though the smarter ones could easily bypass it
That is indeed easy: post something semi-decent, be accepted, start the spam. Or even edit the first post to make it spam.

25923  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanitygen: Vanity bitcoin address generator/miner [v0.22] on: February 05, 2017, 07:25:50 PM
It does seem like a very small issue though as that's not even a 1% increase in size.
Your math is off: from 225 to 257 bytes is over 14% increase. The percentage is even larger with more inputs and less outputs, and (as far as I know) it's the reason compressed addresses were introduced. For this reason, most wallets now use compressed addresses.

Quote
are there other differences like this in other 'normal' bitcoin addresses?
I don't think so.
25924  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanitygen: Vanity bitcoin address generator/miner [v0.22] on: February 05, 2017, 07:03:53 PM
Clearly generating vanity addresses has zero affect on transaction fees.
I don't know if my question was unclear, I've changed my post a bit.

Example:
1 vanity input with 2 outputs: 257 bytes.
1 compressed input with 2 outputs: 225 bytes.

Doing the same with 11 inputs and 1 output gives a (relatively) larger difference, as inputs are larger than outputs.

Of course vanity addresses don't create larger transactions than "normal" addresses, that's not the point. The point is: compressed (input) addresses create smaller inputs, and if it would be possible to generate compressed vanity addresses, you could have the best of both worlds.
25925  Economy / Services / Re: ★✔✔★ Secure Bitcoin Escrow Service ★✔✔★ on: February 05, 2017, 08:04:59 AM
Still online and possibly for sale!
You really don't get it, now do you?
What makes an escrow secure is not putting the word "secure" on an unknown website from an unknown person living in Cebu City*, Philippines. An escrow can only be called secure based on its reputation. The one thing you need, you don't have.

*I specifically mention this from your profile, because I've been there. I got scammed by many people there, from the cab driver to the taxi meter to the bill in resorts. It's a poor country were people do almost anything to get money.

Disclaimer: I've met nice people too Tongue But that's not the point here.

Miscellaneous
1. I busted a few Alt-accounts cheating giveaways
2. I found a few hundred farmed spam-accounts shitposting giveaways
3. I got several dozen spam-accounts banned from Bitcointalk, while all of them ended up on my personal blacklist
4. I report copy/pasting to get banned
5. I made a Byteball: Blackbytes FAQ
6. I'm raising awareness: Fees are low, use this opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs!
7. LoyceV's Merit data analysis with weekly updates
8. Once in a while, a bot-cloud gets my attention. Here I got about 700 of them banned, here another 142 spambot accounts.
9. [GUIDES] on Bitcointalk. Index thread
10. [overview] Recover Bitcoin from any old storage format

Scraping the forum
I made Scraper-scripts to scrape certain threads. It's highly customized, I plan to make it easier to adjust if I need it for something else.
This is very useful for threads that require users to post a username, Bitcoin address or BetID. The tricky part here is to exclude nested quotes.
I've been using a scraper for entries and results in Campaign 1 for months, and made a new one to create and post a table of all entries in Campaigns 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8. My scraper LoyceBot now also posts account levels and activity so I can easily check eligibility.

Future plans
1. I'm no longer considering making a SMAS-like thread to join forces with other giveaways. Let's call it GAS for now: Giveaways Against Spam. Slogan: "We give you gas". I won't do this, as there are no giveaways left to manage.
2. I'm considering to - very original - start a Loyce Lending Service (LoyceLS) (plans are on hold at the moment).

Reputation
See LoyceV's reputation thread, it's not self-moderated. Feel free to add comments.

25928  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanitygen: Vanity bitcoin address generator/miner [v0.22] on: February 04, 2017, 08:40:26 AM
I recently transfered 11 inputs from a vanity addy, and it made me realize the transaction gets quite big, which requires higher fees. Using vanity addresses instead of compressed addresses also adds more to the already large number of unconfirmed transactions.

I just found out Lifeboat supports compressed keys, which are 15% faster to find (source: README in this zip) than regular keys! But it's specialized for AMD, and available for Windows only. So I can't use it.
The last version of vanitygen is 4 years old now. It would be very nice to see an update that includes compressed keys. Unfortunately I don't have the skills to chance the source myself. It might be a relatively small change to add compressed keys.

25930  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 1MB block size forever is just silly on: February 03, 2017, 12:44:20 PM
Satoshi never thought bitcoin can be so huge on users and market cap, therefore he designed only for 1MB.
Before you make up stuff, please read what satoshi himself says about this:
Quote
It can be phased in, like:

if (blocknumber > 115000)
    maxblocksize = largerlimit

We have 4 times more blocks by now, and it's still not implemented.
25931  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 1MB block size forever is just silly on: February 03, 2017, 07:39:26 AM
Should have been at least 2-4MB some time ago.

i disagree.
we need to increase the block size but things are not that bad if we only see legit transactions in the pool. right now we have a massive scale spam attack which is increasing the number of unconfirmed transactions.
Who decides whether or not a transaction is "spam"? And even if it is spam, they do pay fees. The problem is: even with fees that would have been called very high just a few months ago, I'm now waiting almost 24 hours for my transaction. As a Bitcoin user I don't really care if "spam" is the cause, it should just work.
Sites like https://btc.com/stats/unconfirmed-tx or https://bitcoinfees.21.co/ nicely show you how much to pay for a fast transaction, but the end-result is we're all paying more, without processing a single transaction more.
The last 4 blocks all have more than 1 Bitcoin in fees, up to 1.7 Bitcoin. That's huge!

Remember when "cheap transactions" was an argument to use Bitcoin? To grow, it needs more users. To get more users, it needs to be able to handle them. Meanwhile, the miners have a 1.7 Bitcoin per block incentive not to increase block size.

Do you think you can merge-mine the addresses as described here?
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=84569.msg17477311#msg17477311
This method can give a dramatic increase in efficiency.
It might work, but it would exchange efficiency for complications. Since it's already complicated enough, and some people actually lost their private key before I found their addy, it's not worth changing vanitygen for this. Especially for short prefixes.
If it works, it could work for large vanity pools, where multiple computers are searching for multiple addresses that pay half a Bitcoin each, but that's outside the scope of this giveaway.
25938  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Can bitcoin be frozen? on: February 02, 2017, 07:22:05 AM
Freezing Bitcoins requires a hardfork, which will destroy Bitcoin's credibility. Since it's the longest chain that continues, it requires miners' consent, which would destroy the value of their new blocks. So no, it can't be frozen.

But: I've read several times that exchanges and mixers may reject Bitcoins from the Bitfinex hack. This large amount of Bitcoins can be traced back, no matter how often it's moved to different wallets.
If this would happen, the 120,000 Bitcoins can't be spend. In a way, that's the same as being frozen.
