More important than any of that is DOCUMENTATION. On the protocol, not the patches assuming I want to risk the main pool operation.

Agreed.

Although, I would run the pool on a separate machine until I was 1000% sure it wouldn't interfere with the normal pool.

Making some changes to SMPPS code, don't worry if your unconfirmed balance bounces around. It will readjust shortly.

Do I need to recompile bitcoind?  Looks like probably yes.

Yes

Do I need to compile namecoind?  Is it a standard namecoind?  Yes and yes?  I dunno

its standard namecoind

The proxy script, what needs to be done with it, other than to make it executable and run it in place of bitcoind and namecoind?
Can the proxy script even handle a high load or is it going to fail miserably when you dump 100 or 200 GHs at it?

have a look at PoolServJ which replaces pushpool, lp and proxy

btw.
thats the reason i've started this thread. i want all pool owners to know how merged mining works - so its up to them to get it to work. and i hope some miners do read this and will prefer merged mining pools (like i do)

As this nears completion, it would be benificial for pool operators if there was:
A bitcoind diff for the merged client (since most of us run custom clients)
A merged-mining poolserverj binary
An easily modifiable namecoind source to apply joel catz fixes (or a premodified one).

Added SMPPS to the pool options!
266  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [30GHs][0%][SMPPS/Prop/PPLNS] SIMPLECOIN.US - Choose your own Pool & Payout!! on: September 23, 2011, 02:13:39 AM
New framework, new thread!

3 Pools to choose from:
Proportional - (your shares / pool shares) * 50btc
LastNshares - (your shares in the last 1/2 difficulty shares / pool shares in the last 1/2 difficulty shares) * 50btc
SMPPS - your shares * ((1/difficulty) * 50btc)

Feel free to split your machines as you see fit. I have machines in each of the pools!

Currently, the only currency is bitcoins, but in the future I will add more based on demand and availability.

Unconfirmed until another block gets found?

Hmm! Decisions, decisions!

Yes.

So what sort of benefits does SMPPS have?

every share is worth (1/difficulty) * 50.

so on blocks found you receive that amount. If the block is early, the remainder goes into a pool fund. If the block is late, those funds are used.

If the pool cannot cover the amount, it pays proportional, but your remainder stays unconfirmed.

I think SMPPS is nearly read to be released!!!

Just testing it now... hope to have it up soon!

Working hard on SMPPS.

Now we just need some serious hashes. Grab your friends (and your enemies)!

Yep, http://simplecoin.us now has a 0% proportional & smpps pool option.

No separate mining port, no separate site usernames.

Oh, and we've added Teams to the mix Wink
274  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [30GHs][0% Fees][Prop&PPLNS] SIMPLECOIN.US - Choose your own Pool & Payout!!! on: September 21, 2011, 09:57:37 PM
Slight bug with the pool stats page.  When I select BTC proportional I see my own name on the top 30 hashrates.  My rank is given as 614 and my hashrate as 750.  My hashrate really is about 750 but that's all pointed at the PPLNS pool.

Also, what happened to the 'shares this round' stats?

The proxy is cached, it can take as long as 10min to see the change in pools.

The round shares is now on the stats page. As for your shares this round, it will also be on the stats page (just forgot to put it up). The global round shares no longer made sense, so I moved them.

UPDATE: Your current shares added to stats page.

Beta is no more, multi-pool is live!
276  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Thoughts and questions on BTC Pools and merged mining on: September 21, 2011, 06:52:11 PM
I fully intend to support merged mining as an option.

My concerns:

Need to be able to run alongside standard btc server, to give the option to pool users.
New Namecoin client needs to support multi-threading & long-polling implementations.
None of the implementation can affect my other coin clients or bring the pool server to a grinding halt.
277  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [30GHs][0 Fees][Prop&PPLNS] SIMPLECOIN.US - Multi-Pool Beta ONLINE! on: September 21, 2011, 06:24:06 PM
Thanks RyNinDaCleM, our second block of the month!

I'm afraid I haven't found a block for the pool yet but so long as merged mining will be working here the moment we hit block 19200 I'll keep pointing all of my hashing power at this pool.  Now that you have the framework for multiple coins it might be a good idea to add the main merged mining testnet before we reach 19200; I'll happily point a card at it for testing.

Well, I wouldn't want a testnet on the main site, perhaps once the site is completed and live I can mess with it some.

Fair enough.  If I could be useful for testing merged mining though let me know.

If I have the time and resources to build a test-net site you'll be the first to know.

279  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: What pool do you use? on: September 21, 2011, 05:28:31 AM
I mine on simplecoin.us

Then again I run it (and programmed the simplecoin interface). The entire pool is open source (not just based on open-source), the bitcoin transaction log is viewable (no cheating possible), and 0% fees.

The new beta front-end allow you to choose your pool & payout method. Currently PPLNS and Proportional pools are available, with SMPPS on the way.

Additionally I'll be adding support for other coins as requested.

280  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [30GHs][0 Fees][Prop&PPLNS] SIMPLECOIN.US - Multi-Pool Beta ONLINE! on: September 21, 2011, 04:58:39 AM
switched the proxy on for ports 80 & 8337. All mining is now through the proxy.

Just a few more tweaks and the beta site will go live!

Then.... SMPPS.

Any other coin requests? As best I can tell IX and IO are dead. Solidcoin 2.0 is in testing. NMC is waiting for merged mining.
