261  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Topic to everone who want still invest on mining rig (GPU) on: March 28, 2014, 01:08:04 PM
Agree with above.

The free electricity bit is a winner as that is a big factor in any calculation as to ROI or even break even.

Mining should have a miners anonymous program for people to seek help.  Shocked

Lmao - 'MA' = 'Hi, my names xxxxx and I got into mining to look big in front of my mates - now I can't sleep at night without firing up Putty and checking my rigs every 15 minutes - the cat's left me and the wife is peeing on the carpet, er - it's just a mess...'
262  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Topic to everone who want still invest on mining rig (GPU) on: March 28, 2014, 01:04:51 PM
Spoetnik - you make a lot of good points.

I have been tempted by Gridseeds in terms of their low power per k/hs but their post-mining-redundancy usability is zilch! At least with GPUs they can be re-functioned very easily...

Shitstorm - lol - shitcoinstorm indeed! I'm keeping an open mind but the last month or three has seen the dark clouds for sure...
263  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Topic to everone who want still invest on mining rig (GPU) on: March 28, 2014, 09:52:13 AM
I look at mining as a hobby. It's fun.

If you have 4k to invest in a hobby with a .01% chance of you getting crazy rich, drop the cash and go for it.

If you're looking to make money, take that 4k and learn about day trading.

I'd recommend mining though, I think it's fun.

+1

Hi everyone!

I have massive problem. I read all forum about it but first...

I bought 2 x corsair 1000W + mobo + etc and i want to buy 6x 290. But i don't have still them because i was on holiday. Now when i came back i read i saw ASIC.... and that's a problem.

Ok the point is:

buy GPU and start mining? everything will cost me around 4000$ or sell everything and forget it? How do you think guys/girls?

And i forget: i don't pay for electricity.

Hello,
Mining can be fun, but addicting too Smiley It is little like gambling...I n my opinion if you are not paying for electricity give it a try. Also from where you are getting this free electricity?

BR,

Gondel

Couldn't agree more! Very addictive when you see auto payouts arriving in wallet... BUT the Mine & Dump model driven by need to meet $/Kw and make profit against ever increasing Diff is killing the 'Golden Goose' and with CPU>GPU>ASIC it's all getting rather frustrating! With new scrypt coins launching daily the decision on what to mine and what coin might even get to an exchange becomes increasingly difficult.

OP - The answer may well be in your last sentence! - If you don't pay for electricity just go for it with the GPU - at least they can be resold whereas $/kw/khs ASIC benefit of ASIC doesn't apply with free power and they'll become expensive paperweights fairly quickly unless some newbie buys them from you later on...

Ok, no thoughts...

By way of an update, as mentioned, I can use the router admin diagnostics utility to ping the rig but nothing is getting through from LAN.

Re-booting router gets PING & SSH back via LAN

Woah - just tried and got ping and ssh back after leaving it over an hour (without re-booting router this time) - wierd...

266  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: HELP! Stuck building a rig with H81 Pro BTC and 6x R9 290 on: March 27, 2014, 08:12:50 PM
Be very careful using 2 PSUs on H81 Pro BTC - there thread somewhere about frying 3 mobos! Ok, found it:

http://www.reddit.com/r/litecoinmining/comments/1z99gz/fried_through_3_asrock_h81_pro_btcs/

As I recall, powering the mobo pci with PSU 1, using non-powered risers, and then powering the cards from PSU 2 can cause probs unless the 2 PSUs have a common GND.

Also, recommended (although there was some varied opinions) to use powered risers...

Can't help more right now but there is lot of info out there...

268  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / SSH Hanging on Xubuntu 13.10 Headless on: March 27, 2014, 11:15:22 AM
Cannot find this particular issue in any other thread...

I have two particular rigs running Xubuntu 13.10 - different GPUs in each.

Both rigs have identical cgminer 3.7.2 compiled and apart from one XFX R9 270 being a bit fussy with settings, all ok.

My issue is that on one rig, I can reliably run an SSH session via Putty and do:

Code:
prompt$ screen -S mine  ./startMINERSCRIPT

then CTL+A d to detach, exit out of Putty - then hours later (when I get home from work) open a Putty session and do:

Code:
prompt$ screen -r mine

And I'm in there seeing my cgminer screen.

However, on the other rig - (after doing exactly as above) - when I try and Putty(SSH) in later it just times out. Can't ping the rig and 'no route to host' reported. Wierdly, I can ping the rig if I log into the firewall/router at home and ping its IP from the routers (Netgear) built in diagnostics screen... but not from box on the LAN

Only way to get back up regain SSH access is to hard reboot the rig. INTERESTINGLY - The rig carries on mining happily in isolation and is visible on the pool/s! Therefore, its still connected on the LAN, is still sending/receiving packets to pool but is deaf to ping and any other attempts to speak with it or control it...

I should add that the rig in question uses a USB Pi Hut Ralink WiFi dongle as link whereas the other rig (which is at work) is hard wired on LAN there...

Any thoughts good people?

At that price? You must be joking. FAIL is worth at least 50 satoshi. Smiley

You're so really joking spartak_t only 1 Satoshi NO one buy fucking shit coin! Shocked

Fedoracoin was joke too... look what happened. Yeah, the current price is bad, but at the beginning, I for example was able to mine more than 150 million TIPS per day with only 2.7 MH. How about DOGE? There are plenty of examples. FAILcoin needs a little push to succeed.

Yeah, and while I was waiting for auto-payout on minep.it to get sorted I was topping up my TIPS by a few more Mil!

Only time will tell on so many 'shitcoins'... It's all a game of chance and hope that devs do some work, name fits, whatever happens, that makes enough folks think that it's worth buying and up they'll go - worthless pieces of shit or not!!!

be sure to add 'token expired' over and over again for the pool. Because it's always fun to add that nice long password by hand over and over till your hands 'fail'.

Lol! Sorry, Token Expired...

Just curious but what are the nationalities of the people who participate in failcoin? I ask because it seems I'm not around when most people are posting. I'm American.

Hey guys

We've launched a new service called MinePit. It is a client application that allows you to monitor, and remotely control your miners from any web browser, and additionally is a collection of pools that can be mined with or without the software.

We've launched with 9 pools to start with and have chosen FAIL coin as one of those. Feel free to have a look and jump in with the mining at https://www.minep.it.

Our main thread is here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=523986.0

Many thanks,
MinePit Team

Mined and confirmed 8.69 Mil FAIL but no payout yet?

Having a few issues with payouts for FAIL atm. Probably to be expected.

I'm still looking into it but don't worry the coins are safe. I'll update when the problem is sorted.

Hey, what's happening with payouts???

Manual withdrawal method would be good!
