have you ever had memory fail? I thought I did once but it was incorrectly inserted, lol.

All good memory makers give lifetime warranty.

Maybe I'm missing something but these are my thoughts. I'm not a chip manufacturer or a electrical engineer, but I have built computer systems for almost 15 years. Your 3d model doesn't look right to me, it looks overly complicated. Here are my concerns, I would love you to prove me wrong.

It seems that each of the 8 asic chips has their own 3 or 4 phase vrm. Why would this be necessary? or even preferred? it seems like it would cut down on reliability and raise cost. If a 4 phase vrm can handle a 5870 chip at 150 watts why can't it handle all 8 asic chips at less than 100w

Why doesn't it look more like a video card anyways? Shouldn't the majority of the difference be less RAM, a usb port added and maybe a microprocessor to split the work among the 8 chips

what are the square blocks in the upper right? someone suggested capacitors. if so, why are there so many and such a big size. Its not like we are starting a big motor here.

My point was is no company can be expected to fulfill a warranty service they have not done a risk calculation on. The only computer hardware company I have ever heard of selling a lifetime warranty is xfx, and this year they decided it was not sustainable without having a non-transferable clause. You think you can make a device more reliably than xfx? Or maybe you don't and you think oh well asic devices only cost us a few dollars to make. I remember another famous company that went this route, Oakley with their sunglasses. They also have discontinued their lifetime warranty.

Ummm, BFL isn't selling the items?

my point exactly bfl isn't selling anything
265  Other / Off-topic / Re: Butterfly Labs is going to give lifetime warranty on: October 05, 2012, 10:50:38 PM
A reputable company that offers a lifetime warranty, does it because the benefits outweigh the costs. It prevents any unaccounted for loss by making as many loopholes in warranty terms needed, ie not transferable, mandatory registration, warranty seals etc. That's just the way business works. If you have been mining for a while you are likely to outweigh cost/benefit all the time. Some people pick newer 7000 cards for warranty. Others will pay less for a 4 year old 5800 card. Reference designs often take a premium as they seem more reliable. BFL has no way of estimated said costs yet, no way of making any educated guesses the product doesn't exist. Another BFL lie
266  Other / Off-topic / Re: Butterfly Labs invests heavily in high speed production equipment on: October 05, 2012, 10:40:41 PM
You guys come up with something new every other day on how BFL is scamming us. Get some proof or GTFO. If you went around doing this in the real world, you'd be sued for slander in a second.

I hope BFL sues you guys for defamation, then maybe some of you will think twice before posting BS without any proof.

Hmm it seems common practice around here to ask for pictures of items in the for sale section. If they repost pics, they often get called scammers. Why should bfl be held to a different standard?
267  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: sapphire 5870 fan problem on: October 04, 2012, 06:02:43 PM
this is the only fan type the oiling trick hasn't worked on for me. So you may have to replace it. A reference fan will line up with one of the holes and provide better cooling if you can't find the exact fan. I found out the hard way though don't plug a reference fan into the board though your gonna need to splice a molex on the end. I guess the resistor on the fan control can't handle 10 watts, so be aware of that

the sad thing is I actually agree with you on that, and I never would have considered sending him any of my money

Pirate is WAY more likely to payout than these scummy fucks.
269  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: There is no ANY update about bitcoinica? We just got fucked and that's it? on: October 02, 2012, 01:34:40 AM
Why do people still even post about bitcoinica? All it does is piss everyone off. Mods why don't you just delete all threads about bitcoinica? I mean its obvious you give a shit less about the criminals who took our money. Its funny that pirate40 is already labeled a scammer but Bitcoinica owners are still considered valued members of this community?

another option is I have used a reference fan on this type of heatsink... they are easier to find. The only problem is you will probably have to lengthen the power wire
271  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Heat from Mining efficiency on: October 01, 2012, 06:04:37 AM
death and taxes numbers are similar to what I remember from my calculations last year. But if you have poor insulation in a central heating system, they do drastically reduce efficiency. I spent about $220 last February in gas and about $70 in electricity in 2011, 2012 with about $150 worth of mining. I spent $310 this year in electric and about $50 in gas. That was with two extra roommates, to give you some idea. 1300ft house. So I think its safe to assume at least half the mining electricity cost will be free as long as you get the heat circulated
272  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] 4x5970 $1150 shipped on: September 30, 2012, 05:54:35 AM
huh I'm pretty sure running a 5970 on a 1x slot is impossible, you need at least one lane a gpu I think...

howbout two BFL single orders for these

also, curious, you're using one 1x->16x pci express expander? do you have any wires shorted
273  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: LTC mining with Reaper on a 7970 on: September 29, 2012, 01:28:17 AM
only tacotime and he is probably just trolling you. its usually a good sign of lying when people use interjection words like personally, honestly, seriously etc Its using language to "prove" a lie to yourself so you will have an easier time making other people believe it.

Anybody with a 7970 getting 650-700 kh/s out of their cards?  Could you post your exact litecoin.conf file (minus your miner info, of course)?  Also, what is recommended for core/mem clock to hit those numbers?  Thanks.
274  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: New Egg 7990 on: September 27, 2012, 09:30:09 AM
At 1.35ghash your talking about dissipating over 400 watts with one heat sink, good luck with that

do we expect about 90% of 2x 7970 hashing speed? or about 1.35Ghash/s max?

Is this the brilliant I'm selling my signature with free bitcoins? lol
276  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: New Evga PSU with 16 (!!!) Pci-e connectors on: September 18, 2012, 08:00:18 AM
20amp rail is plenty for most everything but a 5970/6990/7970 in fact I have a power supply with 18amp rails that runs 5870's fine. You could run a 5970 or 7970 undervolted probably even

5850/5830 are about 155w at stock speeds
277  Other / Off-topic / Re: Alcohol destroyed me, and how Bitcoin will save me! on: September 16, 2012, 05:05:19 AM
I have been there, now almost 30 and I'm still trying to dig myself out. Lost my home and all my savings. But I really do think bitcoin or an equivalent will change the world. We already have an internet that lets us share words/music/video freely, when we can share money (bitcoin) and tangible goods (3d printing) freely I believe will be the next step.

Just stick in there. I would really recommend working out on a regular basis, whether its running biking lifting weights swimming, whatever, it will make worlds of difference in how you feel about yourself
278  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: QUOTE to sell 2.1Ghash rig on: September 16, 2012, 12:24:45 AM
I would be willing to give $1250 for this particular lot (BTC Equvalent at time agreed)..

new guy's trying to outbid all of us, lol

Well it seems like a nice rig, I'm just making an offer that seems fairly reasonable. I understand that I don't have a huge rep, so I'll pay upfront or probably use an escrow.(id cover the cost) . And I'm not really trying to outbid evereyone.. I don't think my bid is *high balling* it..

just giving ya a hard time. Its just strange for us seeing these prices when they have been cheaper. But I guess people are willing to pay $400 for 5970's on ebay all day long now
279  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Mining indoors during summer on: September 16, 2012, 12:00:01 AM
If I remember right you need a 3 btu for every watt. So if your running more than one rig, your talking about a big a/c needed to get rid of the heat and a huge electricity bill with it.. I use box fans in a push pull configuration to push air over the rigs. exhausting the heat outside a window. Then I have another window cracked to let "cool" air in. This works up until about 90 degree outside air. Then you need to either extreme undervolt or mix incoming air with a/c air. Thats with ten rigs though. Shortly I may end up moving them to a large shed but they are in a small room now
280  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Am I doing this right? on: September 15, 2012, 11:48:20 PM
Most of my miners run in the non a/c part of the house but this is what I do for the one that doesn't. I use something like this

--auto-fan  --auto-gpu --gpu-engine 885-985 --gpu-fan 25-50 --temp-target 68

voltage is set to 1.031 I believe
this keeps the fan below 50 percent for noise. Keeping a real low temp-target should keep your room from heating up to much
Also remember to space the cars apart as much as possible, you may even be able to run quiet 120mm at the back end of the cards to reduce noise
if you can duct heat out a window with a drier duct, or even cardboard can help too. Then maybe use styrofoam sheathing to seal up rest of window
