does that mean you send the private key over the net - unencrypted - to a third party just to create a qr code? or did i miss something? Probably only to preprocess the artwork...

Just checked. Can't find any iPad apps for easywallet. Grump!
You can use it almost like a native app by bookmarking it. There won't be any real iPad/iPhone apps since I'm pretty sure Apple would ban them. But with "Barcodes Scanner" the experience is almost same as with native app. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/barcodes-scanner/id417257150?mt=8A new feature, Dead Man's Switch, applications for example. - Setting up "backup address" to your significant other, in case you lose your wallet URL in a way or other. - Making timed, anonymous transfers to different bitcoin addresses. It is good idea to set up the Dead Man's switch just in case, because there isn't any fees if the feature doesn't activate. http://localbitcoins.blogspot.de/2012/09/dead-mans-switch-with-easywalletorg.htmlAlso we made "One-Tap-Payments", which make mobile payments very easy (just one tap + scan needed). Will post about this later.

I'm sorry for the accident Care to share the details of your exact setup? I still didn't pick up what OS you were using etc.

My services (easywallet.org and localbitcoins.com) belong to a registered company in Finland, and we pay taxes etc. However revenue is so small, that it doesn't matter much, but anyway.
Although I'm considering moving the business elsewhere, since the goverment officials are not giving me much guidance how to pay those taxes and so on.

We got that reports of scams from user "kickerbat".
Please keep in mind:
- LocalBitcoins.com is meant for local cash transactions, not western union/paypal/bank transfer etc deals. - If someone suggests that you send the money using these methods, it might be a scam - Look at the price. People usually don't give money for free. Sometimes there might be bulk sellers, who want to get rid of lots of bitcoins, but that is pretty rare. - In case you are doing this kind of deal, look at the ratings/profile.
Other than that, we will keep developing the site further and making it easier (and safer) to use. Thanks for the users, and for all the feedback/suggestions.

Off topic, but this is at least the 50th bitcoin-related website I've seen make use of Twitter Bootstrap. Why is it so popular in this community?
It is popular with every startup with a shoestring budget... Just that the more traditional startups have probably more money and probably invest more to the front-end stuff. With bitcoin your biggest concern is security and you tend to invest to that, and not that much to front-end.

The only thing that truly and permanently props up the price of BTC are true BTC transactions where someone buys something and the vendor who sold it to them holds the BTC instead of selling it on the exchange because there's enough that he can spend thge BTC on that it would actually be inconvenient to turn it into USD Bitcoin is just as useful for trade at $1 as it is at $100 - the exchange rate doesn't matter anyone except for speculators, and catering to speculators does nothing to secure the future of Bitcoin as a viable currency. What matters in the long term is the market demand for products and services that can be purchased with Bitcoins. Anyone who wants Bitcoin to succeed should focus on creating those products and services rather than playing pump and dump games with the exchange rate, because speculation is a zero-sum game at best that does nothing to help the Bitcoin economy. How about creating products and services for speculators? I think that the only viable (legal) businesses currently which can reach some kind of profitability are a) exchanges and b) mining pools. Probably gambling services as well, but those are already somewhat legal grey area. And yeah, cascasius coins are probably also profitable. Anything else comes into mind?

I would trust anonymous business, but only when it has a really solid business model and has been running for a long time.
For example, lately I spotted that torwallet operators had run with the money as well. Guess they didn't make enough money, and decided it was better to take the money and run.

Heya all. I tried the "Download PDF flyer" feature today. It looks good but there is one issue: Accented Greek letters and the letter sigma (the lower case one in word-final position) don't appear correctly inside the PDF. Other than that, congrats kangasbros once again for the nice service Thanks for the bug report, added to the TODO list I'm a little bit overworked right now, but I'm pretty sure I'll manage to push out more new features next week. And also for those willing to look for "good deals", check out this feature: https://localbitcoins.com/advanced_search

Lock-in: learn about what it means. In bitcoin world, it is very difficult to enforce lock-in to your customers, even with hosted wallets, payment processors etc. Switching is always pretty easy.

You are free to use paper money which can be printed in unlimited capabilities by anyone who has enough skills and resources...

Super short summary: an exact clone of silkroad got shut down despite existing only in Tor. Oops, Des was right again. I guess computers connected to the internet can be found after all! lol.
Farmers market got busted because they were idiots and used payment methods such as paypal. You just lost all your credibility in my eyes and I don't see the point continuing the discussion with trolls who throw stupid claims around without doing even basic research.

Blocking is relatively easy, but spying is lot harder. Tor depends on publicly listed nodes (relays). To block tor, basically you just need to block traffic to these public nodes. However there are some additional features (bridges etc) which allow better connectivity, even these are not perfect. Anyway, blocking tor is not related any way to spying on tor. On unrelated note, someone needs to develop bitcoin-vpn automated marketplace.

Silk Road won't be the market leader in any case for long. It is trivial business to enter to. Maybe some mafioso can throw some money in clever guerilla marketing. Maybe the future marketplaces employ better techniques for quality control etc.
And there already exists an open source software which allows anyone to set up their own marketplace (I don't know how good it is). The software is pretty trivial to implement.

The speaker's point was that the state, once it becomes aware of Bitcoin, will tend to resolve conflicts in its own interest rather than in the community's interest.
This is BTW very common misconception in the libertarian discussions I have spotted: that state has its "own interests". State consists of many different organizations and parts, which also consists of humans, which have their own interests. State is not a single-interest/single-mission organization. I will prove this by getting state funding for my bitcoin startup

Fixed: We should not try to get legality for Bitcoin, because using bitcoins is already legal.
In any civilized country it is legal to trade using any tools suitable for it (barter is also legal in about every country, if you pay taxes).

I would also like to advertise localbitcoins.com "flyer" functionality. If you create an advertisement, and go to edit it, you see "Print Flyer" button. With this, you get a nice PDF, which you can print out and attach to local billboard. The additional benefit is, that you can also make money selling the coins for profit, and also spread the bitcoin love at the same time Example from my ad: http://imgur.com/qWrXN

I'm pretty sure the reason is the UI of icbit.se. It could be much simpler. People like simple things.

BTC sent. Very good project, especially as people have been complaining about the satoshi client for ages...

Well, i live in the netherlands and most ISPs throttle torrent traffic in one way or another. There is nothing, besides their ethics and competition (ISPs are not very state controlled here), to prevent them from blocking it alltogether.
To my experience, ISP:s even advertise their services as a fast way to get movies and music. It is also highly competitive environment, at least in Finland. I'm pretty sceptical that ISPs would block bittorrent altogether, since bittorrent is one of the most important reasons why people buy fast internet connections from ISPs. They are probably doing throttling because of profits, not because of censorship/laws.
