Crypto collectables and traditional numismatic collectors are completely different markets (just like stamps and coins). There are a few that overlap (like me) but I think we are pretty few and far between. I don’t expect the traditional numismatic market to show any interest in crypto collectables for many years if at all. On the other hand the crypto collectable enthusiasts are getting more and more and so I suspect the casascius premium will continue to rise (at least in dollar equivalent terms)

Have to disagree. Many people who collect here were numismatists/traditional coin collectors first. There are traditional coin collectors entering this space all the time. I get messages often on my Instagram “physicalcryptocurrency”account from traditional coin collectors inquiring about these types of coins/wanting to enter the space. This will only increase as time goes on.

OP- heck of a coin. Great job not peeling it over the years. If you’re looking to sell this sooner than later Id post it all over every social media account letting people know  ( Facebook, Reddit, Twitter, youtube, etc ).

correct like me  Smiley  some here know of my buys and sells of these gems however many don't know my past is of over 40 years of coin and comic collecting.  I also wrote articles for investors like ( Investing in The New Year) for over 15 years who were subscribed to my IR business (Equity Research IR and or Equity Movers both of which I sold years ago) . Since just before BTC broke $700 I had been introducing coins like these to investor friends for their numismatic potential as well as the BTC potential. Its still a matter demand into an emerging market. The risk increased dramatically when BTC crossed $2,000.  So its still a delicate balance of gaining Numismatic value in a highly volatile market place.

Once stability has been established for a longer period of time numismatic values should increase.

I’m a similar tale. Collected coins and cards since I was a kid. Picked it up more so as an adult. I’m an investment advisor so I’m always looking for new finance products. Found btc and shortly after bought some of those copper anonymous mint Coins. Then I came across kialara Casascius and bitcoin Penny and I was hooked. Many others w similar story.

cool ChiBit nice to meet you, I think all the original non loaded collectibles will continue to gain in numismatic values over the years. A lot of these guys like wheelz had some great collectible idea's as this market emerged.  I really liked his limited supply of Geneses coins, Fun stuff. Took a while to get my son interested in crypto's but I found a slick way to do it.  I had him open a coinbase account a few years back and I gave him some LTC... he is pretty happy now and interested lol...  on a side note I am hoping this sustained increase in the price of silver will spark an interest back in MS slabbed coins again like Morgans.

good luck all in the new year with your investments !

268  Economy / Collectibles / Re: 2011 25 btc Casascius on: December 26, 2020, 10:42:03 AM
I am curious where these people what they pay millions $ for old coin. They probably did not hear and Casascius

High old Numismatic value coins are sold mostly through auction houses such as Heritage and Sotheby's, those collectors prefer government issue coins. These collectable crypto's have a numismatic value as well but the market demand is far less than the well established generations of coin collectors.  I think eventually ( 20 yrs IMO) these collectables will carve out a niche for a new generation of investors/collectors. The demand is at a 30 year low and peaked around 1991.
269  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Grading, Crypto Collectables ICG and ANACS on: December 03, 2020, 02:50:13 PM
say no to grading! keep your crypto out of plastic prison. if its not ngc or pcgs its not worth it, would you trust a grading company that grades a strike on plastic?

not on plastic but the .999 silver strikes from Casascius were the ones I had in mind. I had a few of those graded by ANACS MS69 1btc. The brass strikes are gradable too.  Now that these coins have gone over $20,000 in value having a third party grade would bring higher value at auction.
270  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Grading, Crypto Collectables ICG and ANACS on: December 03, 2020, 02:42:10 PM
Have seen a few physical cryptos graded by a Canadian and a UK company
Have been using both ICG and ANACS... both are similarly priced and turn-around times.
Most coins have been taking about 2 weeks or a little longer.

I went the economy version of NGC at $22 per coin since I had 14 coins, still what a wait ...  I will go the $30 per coin from now on
271  Economy / Collectibles / Grading, Crypto Collectables ICG and ANACS on: December 01, 2020, 11:10:48 AM
Hi are their any other services grading crypto collectables besides ANACS and ICG ?  ANACS is considered one of the top three along with NGC and PCGS although those two do not grade cryptos last I heard.  Then you have the "oversized" Items such as the early Paper Safe wallets which I am thinking of getting graded along with some other collectables. The last coins I had graded (NGC) took 3 months !  What's been your experience turn around time and price ?

275  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Alpen Coin - “Switzerland’s first ever physical bitcoin” on: August 03, 2020, 07:22:59 PM
I wonder if they made them in the 100's of thousands which would keep the numismatic value low

$1.09 USD = $1 CHF btw
276  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Casascius Bitcoins For Sale, Reduced Prices on: July 31, 2020, 09:05:42 AM
Is 1DKhbxAb an error coin?   From what I can tell "Casascius" is spelled "Casacius" in some places?

Can you confirm?

Although it was an error on the inkjet print 2011 the majority of those coins had the same background "Casacius" misspelled

OT but every time I see baseball cards I get i'll  Undecided

x wifey thought it would be a good idea to have a yard sale one day after we got divorced and were selling the house. I had bought saved and collected baseball and football cards with the kids from 87 to 2001 .. All three kids had their own large collectible box of 5,000 cards.  One of them every card booked over $2 and it had 380 Barry Bonds Rookie cards. I was buying them in packs of 50.

Without letting the kids know she sold all those cards for $20 per box ( 3 boxes 15,000 cards)  ehhhh  Im complaining but maybe giving a lesson to some future collectors Smiley
