2601  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: None of the Avalon Batch #3 w/o PSU has been shipped on: August 01, 2013, 05:15:09 AM
Have you considered how they are 'testing' batch 3's without a PSU? It would require building a full unit, doing a burn-in test for a day or so, then removing the PSU. More labor intensive than just testing, then shipping. And then what to do with a bunch of left over PSUs?

I suspect that the 'without PSU' option while a good idea when proposed by Yifu is turning out to be a logistical problem.

Fan-cooled PDU's. Love it.

Well.. the purpose of that fan is to move the heat coming out of the exhaust of the Avalons up and away from them. But I suppose it does cool down the PDUs aswell.  Cool

Which PDUs are those Coinhorder? I have been looking for something similar.

It's an APC AP9571

It can be had on Ebay used for as low as $20

It's definitely one of the most affordable PDUs around, and I've been using them for about a year now with no problems.
2605  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: ASICMiner Rumors on: July 31, 2013, 07:13:37 AM
So, have any group buy operators heard if they will be able to reorder USB miners for .1 BTC like BTCGuild is offering?

It would suck if the group buy administrators are not allowed to have the same deal as BTCGuild. It screws all the people that bought from group buys and unfairly rewards everyone that bought from BTCGuild...
all re-sellers are waiting on stock and instruction (how and who gets it) from the manufacturer...
you all need to hold your horses and wait till friedcat makes the announcement on who, what, when, where, how etc...

Yo Canary...it's been hours now! What's da word? These horses ain't gonna keep much longer Tongue

Lol.. umm yea.

I'm not going to order anymore until I hear if the .1 BTC rumor is true or not. I don't wany to buy a .55 today if I can possibly buy at .1 tomorrow...
2606  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: July 31, 2013, 06:16:41 AM
guys, i have one batch#1 and one batch#3. the B1 running at 265MHz and B3 at 300MHz. they are in the same room
with same settings and firmware. But i noticed that air flow in B3 is bigger than B1, i think i need to change fans in B1.
what are you proposing? the quiteness is not an issue, only the enough airflow, thanks

If you look inside your batch 3, they added a metal piece that better directs the airflow.

Perhaps if you made something similar for your batch 1 machine, it would be a little bit cooler?
2607  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: July 31, 2013, 05:53:07 AM
So.. I'm messing around with different mhz settings.

How hot is too hot in your opinion?

Some temperature sensors are peaking at 69 for me.

I'm not sure if I should try to bump it up to 350mhz or not.

They seem to be running pretty stable at 325mhz.

EDIT:

I bit the bullet and upped them to 350 mhz

They still seem stable and temperatures hardly went up at all.

I think I'm happy with 250mhz, I won't try to push it anymore.

So far the slowest is 105 Gh and the fastest is 115 Gh

Hi, I posted these in the pictures thread, I thought some of you might be interested in them aswell.

It was a long, but happy day now that I've received our Avalons!

That's certainly impressive, but why not just use the ducts to vent hot air out?  I kind of doubt that AC is actually necessary.

Havent you heard? Whoever dies with the coolest toys wins the game of life!

In all seriousness, yes I could probably do it that way too. However, I have tried that method before with large GPU farms and it is somewhat inefficient and didn't work very well. Also, it gets over 100 degrees here in the summer time almost every day. This huge A/C barely keeps the room below 90 degrees, but the Avalons are much cooler because the cold air from the A/C is blowing into the intakes.
2609  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: July 31, 2013, 05:00:43 AM
I'm currently designing a rack mountable avalon system, gonna have 92 total hash units, ~9000 chips worth. It's gonna be sick Cheesy

Nice!

Make sure to post pictures  Smiley

Review of my order from Avalon (Rated 1 to 10):

Ease of setup: 10 (very easy to setup after you setup your first one)
Speed: 10 (they advertised 80Gh and I'm getting 97-112 Gh at 325mhz)
Package Quality: 9  (they arrived safely with plenty of padding)
Delivery: 1 (they were 3 months late)
Customer Service: ?? (I have never had to contact them for anything, I did not need to change anything about my orders, etc.)
Power Consumption: ?? (yet to be determined)
Average score: 7.5

Overall, I'm a still a little angry they delayed so long and these will hardly make ROI, but I am happy they finally came through and delivered.

Thanks Avalon!

Thanks Avalon. I know I cussed you a few times, but thank you for finally coming through!

I can confirm Dchou does indeed have 20 shares to sell in the group buy.

Tracking info says the Avalons have made it into the USA.  Smiley

Hosting fee reduced to 3.5%

I also added to & edited my OP/terms to elaborate more on details.

I will probably make at least a couple more revisions to the OP before accepting any funds if there is enough interest, so please still continue to give me your opinions of this offering. Thank you for your cooperation.

I also learned from my first group buy (I probably sound like a broken record by now,) it is better to really think about your terms and plans ahead of time instead of just jumping in and ordering equipment without thinking through all the details!  Grin
2616  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Bitfury/Knc/Vmc] Multi-Manufacturer Group Buy- Diversify Your Mining Investment on: July 30, 2013, 01:14:47 AM
I'd be interested if I could pay with USD. Possible?

Sure, that would be fine. I am a little worried about charge backs, but at the end of the day if someone does do such a thing, I can recover their shares in the group buy.

EDIT:

To elaborate on this, if you buy into the group buy with USD, then the amount you invested will be at the mercy of the exchange rate and fees when I convert them into BTC. The final amount of BTC from you USD deposit will be the amount of BTC you've invested into the group buy. Share ownership will be maintained by the amount of BTC invested in, so it is important I immediately convert any USD payments for proper book keeping.

I knew this about a month ago just by looking at the power specs.  Wink

That was my initial choice. Here is another link to it with specs: http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/eecf/#tabs

Power Adapter
cUL, FCC
Input: 100 - 240 V, 50/60 Hz; 1.6A, maximum
Output: 5 V / 4 A
Cable: 1.2 m (6 ft.)

Only enough power to run 8   Cry

I dunno why there are so many threads on USB hubs for ASICMINER block Erupter USBs, it makes it hard to find all known information.

EDIT: I guess I was wrong about it only being able to run 8, since you said you got 9 working canary. I wonder where it squeezes the extra power from, that baffles me.

Hi,

Honest question from a prospective buyer...

How can you afford to sell at .45, but all other re-sellers are selling at .55

What is the secret sauce? It just seems odd..
I choose to sell closer to my cost to get the customer the best price possible. Sorry, no secret sauce Cheesy

Thanks for the answer.

By the way, I wasn't insinuating anything negative, I was just curious.

Cheers,

Ch
