1922  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is anyone still holding LITECOIN? (LTC) on: February 11, 2014, 02:40:48 AM
I am holding way too many at this point, and I bought in at $30 stubbornly waiting for the price to go back to $30 since..

Now as each day passes I am getting more and more skeptical of that ever happening.  From what I understand, the reason LTC is so popular is because it was one of the first ALT coins we had and it used scrypt algo to shield itself from ASIC mining..... now we know that LTC is not safe from ASIC mining, and coins like VTC pretty much do what LTC was meant to do and are a major threat to LTC. Are the devs for LTC even active or working on new developments/features? Are there any plans to further LTC's adoption?

I guess I just want to see if there is any hope for this coin, and if I'm a fool for still holding on to this coin.

Please respond

To be a Bitcoin (or insert cryptocoin name here) investor requires balls of steel. No one has ever made any money by buying high and selling low.

My advice to you:
1. Diversify your portfolio
2. Be patient

If this is a Scrypt coin, what's the point in the IPO?
1924  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN][MAX] MaxCoin on: February 07, 2014, 03:22:52 AM
So... Max Keiser is in the Pump and Dump game now?

I thought this guy was a slime ball before this even happened, but this just puts icing on the cake.

I feel sorry for anyone that takes financial advice from him.  Huh

Everyone just wants to mine/buy some because Max is going to pump it up the best he can and everyone knows that... it will die eventually like all fads.

+ the worst "fair" release I've ever seen... miners not working, windows client not working, no pools since they used SHA3, cpu only coin being mined on gpus from day one .....

Received my piggy, and he's delightful -- he makes me smile every time I look at him. And he was obviously designed to graze on top of an AM Cube.

Hi Smoothie, hope you are doing well. It was an accident.. I had to push it back a little bit due to being busy early this week. I wrote most of that post before I delayed it and simply forgot to change the first date. I fixed it, my apologies.
1927  Economy / Collectibles / Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy)- Now accepting 26 ALTs for payment. on: February 04, 2014, 06:08:26 AM
Hi all!

We are happy to announce that the Special First Edition coins will be for sale starting February 5th! The ordering process will be a bit different this go around, as we have decided to put the coins up for sale in a series of auctions on Litecointalk.org. We have a few reasons for selling the coins in an auction format on litecointalk.org. The most important being that the full value of the top 10 coins in each week’s auction will be donated 100% to the Litecoin Development Team! We are also thinking forward and want to make some improvements to our Second Edition coins which we are planning. These improvements will cost more money up front both in nicer materials and buying new equipment. Also, if a few new people register for the forums because of this auction then that would be great. I hope you stick around, voice your opinion on other parts of the forum, and contribute to the Litecoin community. I think a good forum community is a key essential to the success of a cryptocoin.

Why a ‘Special First Edition’ coin is special?
We expect the Special First Edition coins to be worth more than the regular First Edition coins on the second hand market. The Special First Edition coins will be the only First Edition coins with windows revealing the Firstbits and they will be the only First Edition coins verifiably assembled by CryptoVest. The Litecoin addresses of each Special First Edition coin will be released to the public. Each Special First Edition coin comes with a certificate of authenticity with the Litecoin address, a QR code of that address, and the coin’s number in the batch (numbered 1 through 1000*). Each coin will come with a coin capsule (a coin capsule is an air-tight clear acrylic case to protect the coin.)  These coins will be assembled BEFORE each auction and will ship within 3 business days of receiving payment at the end of the auction.

Auction Dates & Times:
Starting 9 PM EST on February 5th, we will auction off 200 coins each week until all 1000* Special First Edition coins are sold. All bids before the official start date and time of the auction will be discarded. Please only post before the auction start if you have a question. The tentative auction schedule is as follows:
9 PM EST 2/5/2014 – 9 PM EST 2/12/2014: Special First Edition Coins #1-200
9 PM EST 2/12/2014 – 9 PM EST 2/19/2014: Special First Edition Coins #201-400
9 PM EST 2/19/2014 – 9 PM EST 2/26/2014: Special First Edition Coins #401-600
9 PM EST 2/26/2014 – 9 PM EST 3/5/2014: Special First Edition Coins #601-800
9 PM EST 3/5/2014 – 9 PM EST 3/12/2014: Special First Edition Coins #801-1000

Auction Rules:
- The auction will be denominated in Litecoins and the starting bid is .5 LTC per coin.
- A minimum bid increase of .1 LTC will be enforced on all bids.
- Bids will be accepted in each week’s auction until approximately 9 PM EST on the final auction day. A post in the auction thread will be made determining the official end of one auction and the start of the next. All bids made before this post is made will be considered valid. At that time, the starting bid will be reset and the next 200 coins will go up for auction. I will update the thread whenever possible to keep the highest bids in one post in an easy to read format.
- To bid in the auction, please post a reply to the auction thread in the following format: Quantity of Coins @ Price per Coin

Example Bids:
2@.5 (means 2 coin at .5 LTC each)
10@1 (means 10 coins at 1 LTC each)

Shipping Costs:
Domestic: 1-20 Coins: .5 LTC LTC; 21-50 Coins: 1.5 LTC; 51-200 Coins: 2.5 LTC
International: 1-20 Coins: 1.5 LTC; 21-50 Coins: 3 LTC; 51-200 Coins: 4 LTC

I won some coins in the auction, what happens next?
Within two business days of the auction ending, I will private message each week’s auction winners on the Litecointalk.org forums with more details on how to complete the order. Each winner will be given a week to pay, at that time unpaid coins will be forfeited by their previous winners and added to the next week's auction. A 6th auction will be done if necessary.

Disclaimers:
- There are no replacement coins available, as these are limited edition coins. IE. If a package goes missing in the mail, the best I can do is give you a refund- there are no replacement coins. Each coin will be sent via USPS with delivery confirmation requiring a signature upon receiving the package. If you sign for the package, then you waive your right to a refund. This is to protect ourselves from fraud, unfortunately we need to do this as several packages from our regular First Edition coins went missing mysteriously.
- There may be less than 1000 Special First Edition coins. We are running low on supply, and a few shipments from our First Edition coins have gone missing. On the final auction week, the final amount of Special First Edition coins will be announced. There will only be (at most) 1000 Special First Edition coins available.
- As with our First Edition coins, it is not recommended to buy and sell Special First Edition coins in the second hand market. By doing so you are taking all risks of fraud, tampering, and counterfeiting on yourself. There is no guarantee (expressed or implied) of these coins being tamper proof. CryptoVest will not be held liable for loss of funds stored on the coins themselves in case of a natural disaster, fire, flood, tampering, counterfeiting, or theft. Please be careful about who you buy and sell coins from on the second hand market. We will give notice on our blog and through our newsletter mailing list on the first evidence of someone selling tampered or counterfeited coins. Luckily there are no signs of this as of yet, but possibly as Litecoin and the coins themselves grow in value it will attract bad actors.

Thank you so much!
Thank you all for your interest in our products, I can’t express this enough. Without our customer's support, we would have fallen flat on our faces with 4000 worthless coins and some neat stickers (a life time supply!) We look forward to providing new designs, more quality coins, and higher security coins in the near future. I have sincerely enjoyed being a part of this and providing a neat novelty product for one of my favorite cryptocoins- Litecoin!

Rise chikun rise! Grin

Same here.

Well.. I can visit the website, but it shows me at 0 Gh...

Something's definitely wrong, it shows the pool's hashrate is down from 6.4 Ph to 1.4 Ph.

1930  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Alpha Technology Litecoin (Scrypt) ASIC Miner Development on: January 30, 2014, 03:03:58 AM
Where can we buy those batch 2 units?
From what I can tell the only way to order as of now is through their email.. sales@gridseed.com

I imagine that is just for wholesalers though.. I bet once they have their supply line ramped up (which might take a month+ due to CNY), these will be readily available. I think that Dualminer is the first reseller accepting orders, but there will be others developing their own soon. It seems Gridseed wants to simply provide ASIC chips and have people make designs and sell them to customers similar to Avalon gen2 chips.

I'm glad they're not readily available now.. I don't have any $$ on hand !!

Has anyone been able to get out of HashFast the details of the MPP yet? Like.. when/what/where/how??

Thanks in advance.  Smiley
1932  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CEO OF BITCOIN EXCHANGE ARRESTED on: January 29, 2014, 12:36:03 AM
This is a sad story of how greed can affect one's decisions for the worst. I don't think Charlie thought he'd ever get caught, but it was obvious to me from the emails that he knew he was breaking the law. You can't agree to play by the Fed's rules and then do something different behind closed doors... they'll find out sooner or later and bring down the hammer.

In hindsight this video is quite ironic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqzubpLxmSQ

My BJ arrived today. Just picked it up from FedEx (never got the tracking number and missed delivery earlier today).

Unit is pretty nice and is mostly a plug&play affair. Took me less then 30m to install, set-up raspi with minepeon and configure pools.

By default it will mine on eligius at the burn in address associated with your account. The account will already contain any coins the unit might have mined during the HF burn in testing. In my case around 70 mBTC. It is running @ 422 GH/s

Will let it run overnight to see how stable it is.

Mine has been running very stable, hopefully yours does the same.

Did HashFail ever call back about the MPP?
1934  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast BabyJet users thread on: January 22, 2014, 10:40:49 PM
There is no setup guide included as mentioned. It took me a bit to figure out, but it ships with a "MinePeon" which is basically a raspberry pi host software for mining rigs. After finding this out, I located Mine Peon's website which had the default log in information... it would have been nice not to have to hunt for this but I guess I figured it out.

There is no wireless.. you need to have a switch/router/hub if you ordered a lot of these and Ethernet cables.

Setup Guide:

1. Plugin the Ethernet and power into the raspberry pi. Connect the provided USB cord from the pi to the back of the baby jet.
2. Turn on the power on the back of the baby jet.
3. Log into your router to find the IP (I think it uses DHCP, so yours will probably be different but in my case it was 192.168.0.12) it will be labeled as "MinePeon".
4. Point your browser to the pi's IP address
5. Log in using the username minepeon and password peon
5a. The password AND username are case sensitive.
6. Edit your pool information in the MinePeon software by clicking on the "Pools" tab, hit submit and you're good to go!
1935  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast BabyJet users thread on: January 22, 2014, 05:05:29 PM
Wasn't it supposed to self tune for max HR based on feedback from the on-die temp sensor, or am I imagining things again?
As far as I can tell, the temperature sensor on the die is not working, otherwise it would show up under the "Temp" column in the list of devices.

See screenshot of MinePeon: https://www.dropbox.com/s/nw0b10iqhrh7432/Screenshot%202014-01-22%2010.57.07.png

I have not overclocked yet.. I am a bit apprehensive to OC without a working temperature sensor. I think I'll just wait to hear how other's OCing experience goes before doing so myself. They shipped them at this clock rate for a reason.. I'm sure they tested heavily with higher clock rates and saw stability problems/failure of hardware. There's probably a little wiggle room to overclock, but I wouldn't bump it up too much (especially because of the aforementioned broken temperature sensor.)

PS: I'm thinking that the first device hashing at.... 12 Mh (lol) is the CPU of the Raspberry Pi...  Huh

1937  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: 400GH/s on: January 22, 2014, 12:43:04 AM
There was no shipping notification sent... it just arrived on my door step I was quite surprised at its arrival.

For what it's worth, the water cooling is really nice.. it is a quiet rig. It's also in a full black ATX case with a window so you can see the water cooled goodness. It is definitely the sexiest mining rig I've ever seen... too bad it will never return a fraction of the BTC we paid for it.

It has run stable for over 24 hours- not crashing once at about 423 Gh. As far as performance.. I am happy with what was delivered. Compared to my full Bitfury rigs it runs like a dream. I would compare the stability to the likes of an Avalon or KNCminer (which both run pretty stable in my experience.)

The Babyjet is expandable.. there is space to double the hashing capacity. The MPP didn't ship with the order, as confirmed by others. We need to press HashFast for the details on that & when we can receive it. I hope they hook us up for being so late.. simply shipping a DIY kit where I could double the hash rate of the Baby Jet would be much appreciated.
1938  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: 400GH/s on: January 21, 2014, 11:46:55 PM
I received a HashFast Baby Jet yesterday. I'm not sure whether to be happy or upset. One one hand I'm glad my hash rate is +425 Gh... on the other hand I look at how much BTC we paid for the miner and want to puke.  Roll Eyes
Sorry to hear that. Did you pay through Bitpay?

Yep. They sent it before I could get a full BTC refund request in. I had mentioned in their last email about refunds that I would be contacting a lawyer because Simon Barber promised full BTC refunds, which was one of the reasons I decided to buy from them. I guess they thought they better ship that thing fast before I did so...

1940  Economy / Collectibles / Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy)- Now accepting 26 ALTs for payment. on: January 19, 2014, 05:24:13 PM
Thanks all for the reviews, comments, and pictures! Be sure I am listening to all of your feedback and taking all suggestions into serious consideration for future editions. I admit this has been a large learning process for me and if I could I would go back and do a few things differently. Just know that I am planning on improving all aspects of future coins... the quality of the coins and holograms, the tamper evidency (I am testing new methods to secure the private keys from the hypodermic needle attack), the packaging, pretty much everything.

The problem I'm having is figuring out where to draw the line when it comes to costs per coin and quality of the future editions. To get a quality coin made like everyone's used to seeing (a Casascius or Lealana), means I am going to have to raise the price of the coin quite a bit... which is something I want to avoid if possible. By releasing the first coins, I was mainly just trying to bring a super affordable physical Litecoin to the market- which I think I did. Although I want to improve the product, I don't want to abandon my original plan of making affordable physical cryptocoins. I am kind of torn in between making a higher quality product or a cheap one. It is kind of either or.. there is not much middle ground, as you get what you pay for with coins/holograms. Due to the large upfront costs of both a "cheap" coin and a "quality" coin, I don't really see me being able to make both at the same time any time soon. What to do what to do.. these are all things I need to figure out soon so I can go ahead and get the next batch of coins manufactured.

Any more opinions are quite welcome.
