2621  Economy / Economics / Re: Impact of Bitfinex hack on the economy on: February 10, 2022, 11:42:44 AM
The impact will be on credibility of exchanges and in the safety. Also the general public may think that crypto is "dangerous" or "risky", but I got the feeling that it is anyway the case. As always, your keys you bitcoin and anything else is running an unnecessary third party risk in the form of custodial intermediaries. The lesson that has to be learnt over and over is that if you hodl a significant bit of bitcoin you should not have it on a exchange or at least not in just one exchange.

Other than that... there may be a dip in price, so excellent to buy more.
2622  Economy / Economics / Re: agriculture and bitcoin on: February 10, 2022, 11:35:24 AM
There is no direct correlation between agriculture an bitcoin. You can use crypto in general to make transactions and improve the underlying economy if you are in a country in which the local authorities levy too much tax or if the currency is continuously being devaluated due to irresponsible economic policies. You can profit from bitcoin revaluation, if that happens if you can save earnings in bitcoin making the business more profitable.
2623  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What websites you use for live scores? on: February 09, 2022, 08:52:00 PM
Good question, but this is only for people who actually bet on several games or are betting live  on multiple sports. For me betting is more of a social activity, some short of side competition to play with friends and make it more interesting, so insofar as scores I simply watch the game I have placed a bet on, so that is actually where I get the score from like many people I know,
2624  Economy / Gambling / Re: Can you manage gambling addict by taking drugs? on: February 09, 2022, 08:45:32 PM
I guess that is very dependent on why the person is gambling beyond what could be considered acceptable o why is it creating problems in their life. Some personalities are self-destructive and addictive and there is little that drugs can do for them, in general they will make it worse, but if it is due to nervousness or stress it may be useful to get prescription and legal remedies. Most of the times therapy would be more about psicology.
2625  Economy / Gambling / Re: [Table] Withdrawal Fees and Withdrawal Amounts on Crypto Casinos on: February 09, 2022, 08:40:31 PM
How does it make sense to have a withdrawal fee at all?? Seriously, the money is mine and you are not entitled to charge me anything that is in excess of the real cost of a service, which normally is near nil. Perhaps we are too used to everyone out there putting a toll on our finances, starting with the banks, the exchanges a the casinos. And I could even understand a commission from a bank, but no more.
2626  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2020/21 on: February 09, 2022, 08:32:42 PM
You can't blame Xavi Hernandez for the failure of Barcelona not qualifier for the champions League knockouts stage, before xavi came Barcelona are already in a difficult state to qualify so is not his fault, since he came the performance has improved and they are grinding out results, with the signing of Torres, Adama Traore and Aubameyang I think they can only get better.
For the achievements that have been shown Barca are still lacking with their new performance. Now Xavi will continue to improve for the sake of the stability of his players. The victory that Barca got in the match with Atletico has changed a little people's point of view which relatively wants Barca to sink first. Here Xavi still has a long way to go and will continue to target bigger ones. So that Barcelona performance doesn't go down, preparing for the match with Espanyol is the show we've been waiting for.

Barcelona are unbeaten in their last 7 matches in La Liga. However, they have lost two crucial matches against Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao. However, in La Liga they are quite a consistent team. Since Xavi's main goal at the moment is to stabilize the team and qualify for the Champions League, I would say Xavi has been successful so far. The team's performance has improved, now they can beat any strong opponent in the future only if they can maintain the continuity.

Too little too late. There is only hope of getting into some of the European competitions but this year has been a disaster not only on the field and even not only with relatively small teams. on the positive side, at least they may start re-purposing the team and getting ready for a successful next year of competition as this one is lost. Also, the mismanagement that recently was exposed in the courts of justice may hinder morale.
2627  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet in probelms for unwanted gambling advertising on: February 09, 2022, 08:24:09 PM
Interesting, another case of unwanted email that results in a serious nudge on the head. I wonder if this would be the same if the company in question would not be as related to an activity that is always under particular scrutiny and has bad press by default with many people speaking about unwanted effects rather than the jobs and economy that it generates. Seems quite unfair compared to other business.
2628  Economy / Economics / Re: Times Change! on: February 09, 2022, 08:12:25 PM
You can argue is a case of fake it until you make it. As contradictory as it may seem, wikipedia may be right in both instances. There was a time in the past in which bitcoin could be called a scam and there were some good reasons such as insufficient adoption, untested software and mechanics,... fortunately that has change and it is great to know that WP accepts donations in bitcoin, altough I am not sure how many will get after calling it a scam.
2629  Economy / Economics / Re: Dominance and Robbery, the money game of btc dominance (keep updating) on: February 09, 2022, 06:08:12 PM
...

Just a conspiracy theory at most, nothing like a proof or the like. I think that you need to consider that bitcoin is strong because the community is very strong and it has been so since a long time, thus miners, exchanges and whales can certainly modify markets to suit their purpose. If they have large bitcoin holdings they will certainly use them to their advantage.

However, I do not think that bitcoin dominance or alts failing when times get though are related to it.

Please, kindly use regular size text. We can read quite well and your argument is not better if in red or bold.
2630  Economy / Economics / Re: The U.S. is considering a radical rethinking of the digital dollar (CBDCs) on: February 08, 2022, 12:49:34 PM
I agree at least with the conclusions, this is not about being first but about getting it right. The economic spheres of influence and the confidence on a certain currency do not change quickly except in events of war or other catastrophic situations, so the fact that the Yuan is digitised first will not make a significant impact on the large movements and big financial actors confidence or uses.

By the way, cutting the middleman as in not banks?
2631  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it just me or people are out of liquidity ( money ) ? on: February 08, 2022, 12:46:30 PM
Again another topic on "people out of money". The large movements in the markets are clearly marking a stop (maybe even a end) to decades of cheap a free money for all. This clearly means that anything priced in fiat will fall as there is simply less fiat. Not as much "people" being out of money, but rather a whole system that is actually pulling back from an stimulus overdose.
2632  Economy / Economics / Re: Caentral banks rate rise could be biggest bluff on: February 07, 2022, 06:30:33 PM
It could be biggest bluff in history in scale u can only imagine.
If they let fiat die anyways and replace with crypto then there is no need for the rate rise.
It could be temporary rate rise just and after that they might cut rates even more.

I dont think they really let markets to die like this and central bank all rich friends will suffering as no more free money for the wall street its unlikely the case here.

The current rate rise could be the biggest bluf and con fraud in our history.
And more weak hands will give away their assets in fear of rate rise and drop in asset prices.

For temporary moment yes rate rise will take away inflation but once inflation is under manageble level then they could lower the yields and rates even more we could imagine.

Quite a mix of concepts here... CB bluffing, crypto replacing fiat and weak hands giving away they hard earned wealth. And, to make it even funnier, you end saying exactly the opposite of what you started with.

By the way, asserting that something "could be" is the same as saying nothing, as you could as well be saying that "may not". This is something I hate about current trends in news, which is in essence making up something without real data to back it up, like most of your post.
2633  Economy / Economics / Re: Facebook ("Meta") down 25% in a day on: February 06, 2022, 04:50:13 PM
According to the above link, Facebook stock plummeted 26%, I have not been following stocks but this is surprising.

This could be off-topic post, Facebook or Meta or what have you has pulled off from Diem or formerly called Libra project and sold it to Silvergate Capital Corporation

Mark Zuckerberg’s stablecoin project Diem officially shuts down
Vale Diem: How Facebook’s ambitious stablecoin project came to an end

Now, there is an opportunity if Libra or something similar comes out and their version of the metaverse works. Hint: They are going to have to reinvent themselves and face a fierce competition.
I totally agree to this if I get you correctly, Meta will not even only be for Facebook, life is competition.

Also off-topic post. About this Meta, I have seen signs of self-centeredness (never mind, I could be wrong), changing its name to Meta to create Metaverse.

The rebranding itself would have been meaningless if it not were accompanied by a declaration of Zucky saying that they will spend 10B in becoming the Metaverse company. Perhaps the declaration or the rebranding in standalone would actually not given enough confidence, let's see if they put the money where their brand is as promised (to themselves mostly).

If you think of it, there canno tbe an universe without a mean of exchange and some short of in-built economy. A tax on that (e.g. owning the coin) is a tax on growth in the purest W. Buffet style.
2634  Economy / Economics / Facebook ("Meta") down 25% in a day on: February 05, 2022, 09:59:46 PM
https://www.cnbc.com/2022/02/03/facebook-shares-plummet-22percent-after-reporting-weak-guidance.html

If I told you this was going to happen the day before you would have thought I was out of my mind, yet there it is. All it took for Meta (previous known as Facebook) to wipe out one quarter of its market value was to have less than expected growth in number of users. I never had much faith in Facebook particularly if you compare the trendy type of business with something like Amazon, Google or Microsoft who do not depend as much on staying fashionable.

Now, there is an opportunity if Libra or something similar comes out and their version of the metaverse works. Hint: They are going to have to reinvent themselves and face a fierce competition.
2635  Economy / Economics / Re: Worried about inflation? In Argentina, it’s a way of life. on: February 04, 2022, 10:10:06 PM
The average Argentinian is probably more knowledgeable in economic concepts that many of the graduates from schools of economics - at least on regards to the practicalities of living the effects of inflation, loss of trust, irresponsibility, bad debt, corruption,... you name it, they have been through it all. High inflation creates all short of stupid situations in everyday life and makes accounting impossible. A lesson on how an extremely rich country has decided to be poor.
2636  Economy / Economics / Re: What's your opinion of the insurance industry? on: February 03, 2022, 10:06:52 PM
If your project depends on an existing stablished insurance company to change their models and adopt some newer technology, you can directly forget about the whole project an move to something else. The insurance companies thrive in obscurity, unclear conditions, fine print, elaborate contradictions and back-checking on claims. DAO, blockchain and other are exactly about the opposite, that is, if the tech itself can provide any realistic benefit.
2637  Other / Politics & Society / Argument against vaccines quite flawed on: February 02, 2022, 10:25:48 PM
I can see several post from people that do not want to get a vaccine and feel strongly against making these mandatory. Firstly, I do respect people who opt not to get vaccinated and I even know 1 very experienced doctor with access to excellent research sources that decided not to get the jabs.

The vaccines are clearly not tested to the standard that other vaccines require to be admitted in the markets. I understand that this means that their safety may not be sufficiently tested and may cause secondary issues. However, the virus and variants of COVID are also quite new and their effects also quite unknown. The only certain thing is that earlier variants were very aggressive on the lower respiratory system.

So, would you change the uncertainty about the vaccine being unsafe for the uncertainty about the virus being equally unknown and certainly unsafe short term??
2638  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russia Declares it is ready for war with American and European countries on: February 02, 2022, 10:19:51 PM
I can see you are buying most of the Russian arguments. They have no intention to invade, they are just positioning troops in excess of 100k men and plenty of weaponry intended only for offensive use, to protect Russian territory. Protect from what?? There are no troops in Ukraine that could threaten Russia in any manner and the west is not even considering going to war. Second, Crimea was not a territory in contest, it was Ukrainian and Russia invaded and took control of it.

I am happy to discuss reasonable arguments, but, on this case, the insincerity is just absurd.
2639  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is marriage a kind of punishment? on: February 02, 2022, 10:15:01 PM
I am working on an article on relationships and marriages. In my part of the world marriage feels like punishment on the female gender. In the days of old as I learnt, it was the responsibility of the man to provide and protect the family but in today’s society, men relax and have the women do almost everything. I observed this most in Nigeria or African. women grow old faster once married. I take instances from my neighbours, family and the society. The man on any day wakes up, take his bath, dress up, eat and off to work if he has one. The woman is the cook, launder, housekeeper, nanny, hand lady, errand girl, cleaner, and she must be working etc. just name it and she must not complain, she must not be tired. For real this is happening don’t think am just assuming. I see it live. Why is it so? I once asked a man in this case, why he maltreats his wife like a slave and he said no reasonable man is allowed to do house chores or assist in anything. The work of the man is to bring money that’s all. Can this be true?  Will you like your sisters, daughters, neighbours, friend  be treated badly in the name of marriage? Let’s talk. No abuses or insult please. I need soul lifting contribution.

It would seem that in your country is kind of a social mandate for females to get married, so there will be cases, many cases, in which it can be considered a painful situation as it is not a choice that they can make and I assume that many times, they get little say on the choice.

It all comes to education and culture. If you think of Scandinavian and central European countries,  even most regions in Southern Europe, the roles are much more balanced. They key is allowing women to get educated and they will never accept a secondary role.
2640  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: February 02, 2022, 10:08:02 PM
There has been some whirl and noise about the glorification and ascension to heavens of Nadal on his 21st Grand Slam. Apparently, most reporters and many people seem oblivious to the fact that Steffi Graf, Venus Williams and Navratilova all won more grand slams than Nadal and they do not seem to have caught as much wind in the news. I am not inclined to think that a fem grand slam has the same grade of competitiveness than a male one.

Anyway, I would like to place a binary bet: Will Nadal ever win another GS title?
