2621  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: What hash rate can I expect from 3 x 7850s? on: April 10, 2013, 08:01:19 PM
Which coin are you going to mine (it affects the wattage use)?
2622  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Quad 7970 recommended PSU size on: April 10, 2013, 08:00:42 PM
1200W should do the trick
2623  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: buying four 6950's quick question please!! on: April 10, 2013, 08:00:17 PM
You have too many questions to just jump into a 4 card rig - especially 4 6950s which would get pretty hot.

1) That 500W requirement is for laymen.  Each 6950 will use 120-200W depending on how you clock it and what coin you mine.

2) Most good PSUs will have 2-8 6/8 connectors.  If you want 4 cards on a rig, you should have 800+ and the PSU should have 4-8 plugs.  Any missing plugs you can use 4 pin molex to PCIe connectors.

3) No motherboard lets 4 cards sit in there (think about how big the board would be) except maybe one of those MSI Big Bangers.  You'll need/want to use risers unless you live in a very cold area

4) For 4 card you want open or custom made rack.  You can either run the GPU fans fast or use a box fan aimed at the open system.

I suggest you build a 2 card rig and learn from the heat issues since that's the biggest problem with mining.  Once you learn that then go on to build a 4 card rig.
2624  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: more profit GPU mining litecoins or BTC? on: April 10, 2013, 07:48:35 PM
Keep in mind that a card doing 700MH/s doing BTC may not get 700KH/s doing LTC.  Some cards are just better than others for doing certain cryptos.  My 7970s make more BTC for me than doing LTC since I can't get them to 720KH even with Tacotime's settings and it uses a lot more energy to crank out a measly 600KH/s.
2625  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: $504000 per day on: April 10, 2013, 07:45:19 PM
hey friends, TRC was hit by one of the asics and is lagging and they put in a historical fix, and we just need to get through 2 Blocks, and we will be out of our bind.  but the increased difficulty has scared the miners away, if anyone could spare any mining power for half an hour for the TRC cause, it would be so helpful right now.

thank you

and I know TRC doesn't belong over on BTC

That will be a problem for the budding sub-currencies under Bitcoin as these super powerful devices come online. Those markets are too fragile to power dump on. Bitcoin went through a natural progression in size and computing power. LTC/TRC may have some headache as that high level tech is being applied to it way too early.

As far as most people know ASIC for LTC is not possible or is a far ways off due to different computational method.  It's the SHA256 cryptos that are getting bulldozed.
2626  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: what are AMD and Intel waiting for? on: April 10, 2013, 10:00:18 AM
Waiting for? They're not waiting.

All of my i5-2500Ks and Phenoms are hashing away at 20KH/s  Grin
2627  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: What does this number in cgminer indicate? on: April 10, 2013, 09:47:15 AM

Code:

GPU 0:  57.5C   0%  |         ...

What does the 0% indicate? I must have missed this in the readme file.

2628  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Are the avalon asics legit? on: April 10, 2013, 09:37:20 AM
Avalons are like Ferraris - you don't set the time and place of ordering and delivery - they do.  If you want one sign up for their newsletter and hope for a Batch 4.

If you want some mining rewards but don't want to GPU Mine buy ASICMiner shares in the marketplace subforum.

If you're gutsy buy BFL's cheaper but riskier devices that might ship before end of the year if you order now.
2629  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: how ot start minign on cpu without gfx card? on: April 10, 2013, 09:31:51 AM
Bitcoin Foundation banned CPU mining.  That's what caused the fork in March 2013.
2630  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Gotta love GPU warranties on: April 10, 2013, 09:30:00 AM
Eh not exactly the kind of thing I would be boasting about.

It's good they honored their warranty.  Having bought extended warranties 2x at Staples I know to never trust those lying asshats every again.  I just would have answered honestly about the overclock.

90C+ at 100 fan?   WTH you got the cards humping each other?
2631  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: A piece of Bitcoin history. Video card that found Block 210000 on: April 10, 2013, 07:51:46 AM
On 11-28-12, I was lucky enough to find block 210000 with my 5870.

So it's your fault that my mining rewards halved from December 2012 onwards?!

A pox on you!!

Tongue lol jk Cheesy

I was thinking the same thing  Grin

I know this is a little off topic but can anyone tell me what is on grnbg's head in that photo he has in all his posts on the BFL site?

I know that, but is it just me or does it look like R2 D2?

2634  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Moving into summer - 7950 questions on: April 10, 2013, 03:14:25 AM
the new gigabyte 7950's can get 650 khash at full bore. That model is voltage locked though.. so it isnt nearly as good for the miner wanting to get say 570 khash with a lot less power usage.

I have 10 of the new Gigabyte 7950s and even with 1.25v most I can get out of them is 575KH  Sad
2635  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Best mhash/s to $ ratio if I dont give a shit about electricity? on: April 09, 2013, 10:59:16 AM
Money isn't a problem, I got almost $30k, however my goal was to just get 1 ghash/s for around $500. Would it be better to buy the most expensive cards possible? I thought gpu mining was almost obsolete and it wouldn't be wise to invest so much in it. I just wanted to spend a few hundreds bucks and mine for fun instead of having my laptop that I use for school run 24/7 mining 30 mhash/s.

Never use a laptop to mine - unless BTC jumps to $500K at the current difficulty.  Not worth killing a laptop for 10-20c/day

GPU Mining will probably be dead for anybody paying electricity in 2 months, maybe sooner.  If you want a new video card just buy a few nice ones (locally to avoid ship times), and start mining today.  Waiting on extenders to be shipped (even within the US is 3 days loss of mining) and when earnings are counted in days left that's a lot.  Once Avalon gets batch 2 & 3, BFL ships Batch 1, and ASICMiner upgrades to 50TH it's game over unless BTC compensates to $1500 or something ridiculous like that.
2636  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: pushing past 90% on a Bronze rated 80+ PSU on: April 09, 2013, 10:51:40 AM
I had to undervolt the cards but am able to pull 1050MH/s on 375W at the wall.
wtf.
That makes perfect sense. Why are you so confused?

My 7970 undervolted to 950mV, 900MHz core, and 375MHz mem gets me 520MH/s, while only pulling 108W (Just the card, not total system). Temps are also crazy low, like 30-40C @ 40% fan (silent). 2 of these, and it's quote easy to obtain.

Well I could get even lower wattage if:
1) My main rig didn't also power 2 HDs in addition to the SSD boot drive
2) I ran an econo CPU instead of an I5-2500K
3) I actually spaced the cards with risers - as it stand they're separated by 0.5 inches so they both run warm/hot 70-80C

The cooler the cards are the less power they'll suck.  It's kind of a vicious cycle.  But it's my main computer and I never mine at home except now with the crazy BTC prices.  Once my Avalons and unicorn blood coated BFL Singles arrive I'll toss all but 2 cards haha.

My power costs me $0.40 since I got kicked up to Tier 5 just by mining on those 2 7950s even with the undervolt.  Don't move to SoCal if you want to mine with GPUs.

Locally sourced hardware? I didn't realise there were any semiconductor companies in Sweden. Are you guys sure you understand what's involved with creating an ASIC chip?

2638  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: pushing past 90% on a Bronze rated 80+ PSU on: April 09, 2013, 03:06:34 AM
I dont know, but Im running 2x6950s on a 500w supply, I figured Im close to capacity but it should hold

At home I have 2 MSI 7950s running on an Antec HCG-400 (400 Watt PSU) inside my main rig inside a case.  I had to undervolt the cards but am able to pull 1050MH/s on 375W at the wall.

Remember as PSUs age their output capacity will decrease.  Efficiency will stay more or less the same but the midrange and crappy 600W PSUs will only be able to put out 500W on the 12V after a couple of years.  I think GOLD/Plat PSUs would be better at handling this degradation.

If you have requested a refund for a pre-order and have not received a timely response, please consider filing a complaint with the FTC:
https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/FTC_Wizard.aspx?Lang=en

I found this letter interesting.  BF Labs registration report to the State of Missouri is past due, and they will lose their ability legally to conduct business in the state if it is not filed by May 4th, 2013.  It's the second document on this page:
https://www.sos.mo.gov/BusinessEntity/soskb/Filings.asp?3402461
BFL has been doing business in Leawood, Kansas for many months now.

...Not that I believe they aren't scamming everyone.

This is a fact. They are in a new remodeled location of which as of to this day a permit was NEVER filed to do all the extensive changes that has been documented on both forums.

I guess we could thank them for fucking their beloved local economy by not paying the fee, but with the money saved they'll be able to honor the $140,000 USD, and climbing since it's pegged to BTC, to charity much easier.

http://buildingcodes.jocogov.org/

Nary a permit! Without a permit, the city has no idea of what's going on in the building. At least they're in the same boat as BFL's customers.

What do you guys make here?

Short of giving you a quarter so that you can buy a clue, we make vaporware that mines virtual currency for our anonymous investors.

Are you incorporated?

Yes. In Wyoming.

Can we speak with the president of the company?

Sure, as soon as he gets back from the 7-11 buying a lott... a lott... a lot of Pepsi, for we're having a party later this afternoon, entertaining a miner from outta state.

What's in all those boxes?

Parts being returned, in fact a swarm of locust will be here any time now to pick them up to bring them to the post office.

What the heck is that?

You never seen a chicken before?

No, next to the chicken?

A box of fans.

What's it used for?

You truly don't have a clue, do you?

What are those big machines over there?

Props.

I'm afraid that I'm goin' have to...

Here's an envelop.

...say that everything looks pretty legit. Have a nice day, Josh.

I don't even care anymore and assume my BTC spent on the SC Single I ordered went the way of pirate@40 and Hashking but that little skit killed me. Thanks for the laugh Grin

Win 7 x64 SP1, no updates.  Catalyst 12.8 with all the crap installed and default SDK

Pair of Diamond 7970 voltage unlocked but running stock voltage
1175 Core/200 mem/1.112 v (stock) - 703MH/s per card - cards range 68C to 86C.
