1661  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Will any U.S. Manufacturer deliver 20nm this year? on: June 22, 2014, 05:31:10 AM
BFL will be releasing their King Monarchs in 2 weeks and those will be 20nm - and they'll help you get a girlfriend and lose 30 pounds and make your teeth 3 shades whiter.

Seriously, looking back at the track record has there been a decent US based ASIC manufacturer?  Avalon and KNC and Bitmain have proved to be leaders at one point in time irrespective of how unscrupulous they may be.
1662  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: How did you solve your miner heat problem? Tell us your creative solutions. on: June 21, 2014, 07:34:33 AM
Best solution for heating issues is much cool air. How to get it in a very cheap way? Here is our soltion that is working great.

Our miners are hosted in a private building (garage), shortly after start running them we realized thet we have a massiv heat problem. Thinking about it, we need something cheap, thats for sure.

So we took a excavator and dig out a 50m long and 5 meter deep shaft where we put a tube on the ground. Next step was to get back all the ground into the long hole.

The entry of that tube is somewhere in the middle of a meadow with a little hat on it to prevent rain and water coming in. The other end leads to the miners and gives them fresh cool air as much as they want. The ground cools the air in an effective way.

So far, we get 7°-8° Celsius air in summer and winter. Works like hell and once it's done there are no more costs for cooling anymore ;-)

So I take it this would not be a viable solution for people living in an apartment  Grin

Yeah it's a good plan but would only work for barns, guesthouses, or garages where you have lots of land nearby.  Most buildings like that could use evaporator coolers for roughly the same cost I'd imagine.
1663  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: I no longer work for Butterfly Labs (BFL) on: June 21, 2014, 07:17:44 AM
Well this explains a lot of BCP's postings - I mean who would defend that company that vigorously.... it's like defending Enron or GM and their recall coverups.

If what was posted in the OP pans out I can see this turning into major jail-time for those high on the BFL hog.  Karma's a bitch.
1664  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [12000 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+NMC, Stratum, VarDiff, Private Servers on: June 21, 2014, 06:58:55 AM
The last 3-4 days have been better than anything I seen in a long while.   Too bad difficulty just flipped higher right before the run.

I guess the best thing about the luck was that for those of us who had ASICs earlier we caught the early 2014 luck streak when difficulty was a lot lower.
1665  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: We're getting flack? GhashForCash is not associated with GHash.io on: June 21, 2014, 06:50:38 AM
Unfortunately that's the trouble that comes with name recognition.  I would jump straight to PHashForCash since GH is so 2013, TH is Feb, PH should be good for the rest of this year hopefully.
1666  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: *** GHash.IO mining pool official page *** on: June 21, 2014, 12:19:31 AM
No other pool operates like GHash.IO.  I'm fine with them selling the hash to cluless buyers or people who just like to buy and flip.  The lack of self control as they approach or surpass 51% is what is disgusting.  Clearly there are enough mindless zombies in the BTC community to push them over 51%.  That does not mean that the owners should say it's not our fault we're successful...
1667  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [6600Th] Eligius: 0% Fee BTC, 105% PPS NMC, No registration, CPPSRB (New Thread) on: June 21, 2014, 12:12:30 AM
I feel a fail-safe coming on.....or DDoS.

..stats hash rate going rouge.

...NVM...seems it a miner that went rouge...how nice.

... feel my spell-checker going rouge ... or possibly chartreuse ...

Heehee.

Rouge:
1 :  any of various cosmetics for coloring the cheeks or lips red 2 :  a red powder consisting essentially of ferric oxide used in polishing glass, metal, or gems and as a pigment

String me up and hang me, I typed 'ug' instead of 'gu'.

You did it consistently - that's what I found funny. Plus the mental image of a miner putting on rouge had me giggling like a little girl.

What's more disturbing.  Him putting on rouge or you giggling like a little girl?  Maybe it's a cultural thing for Aussies  Cheesy

Back on topic, the luck seems to have return to more neutral numbers.
1668  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining difficulty slowing down over the next 3 months? on: June 21, 2014, 12:06:54 AM
We're still dealing with hardware that's using 1W/GH at the wall.  With 1, maybe 2 process levels to go I think we have a long ways to go before seeing 0.4W/GH which will of course come in huge DC configurations made for the big farms who will buy them at 1k orders.  I don't think we'll see a regression until the 2016 halving.
1669  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Free unlimited electricity... where to start? on: June 20, 2014, 11:57:17 PM
Buy Antminer S1's. You can get them damn cheap because they aren't that efficient anymore. But you don't care about efficiency.

You'll need power supplies and network access.

 Cool Grin Cool Grin

I would agree with you, until the news of the Antminer S3 struck like thunder yesterday.

If you got free electric, the S3 is the way to go.

That depends on timing.  1 week could mean the difference between profit and loss, especially with KNC about to pump out their Q1/Q2 Neptunes supposedly.

True, but have you seen the Neptunes, it's not 1 case or enclosure anymore.  It's just 5 600 GH/s boxes now:

You know people will buy farms of the S3, and it'll definitely be cheaper than the Neptunes.  Bitmain already has 20% of the network hash rate, I could easily see it go to a third if the S3 is priced right.

But yes, with both Bitmain and KNC releasing around the same time, all miners profits will be cut into immensely.

Yeah they pulled the same thing BFL did with their minirig.  Well, it would be better suited for the home user.  The problem is it will be overpriced.  So the only people who would buy them (other than those who remained pre-order) would be clueless customers - and we have a lot of those.

Either way both will hit the network at the same time.  We might be seeing a couple of 20 or 30% jumps.
1670  Other / Off-topic / Re: Funny/crazy videos on: June 20, 2014, 11:55:54 AM

Great.  Now I have 65 videos queued up to watch.  I've never done drugs before but I think that video is the closest I'll get to that  Shocked
1671  Other / Off-topic / Re: Worst Thing You'd Do For A Bitcoin? on: June 20, 2014, 10:54:26 AM
Eat a big bowl of spinach without a beverage to wash it down.

I'll one up you, I would eat a plate of brussel sprouts without vomiting.

Sorry that's the best I could do.

Well actually I would be willing to watch the Twilight series for 1BTC.... it can't be worse than Blair Witch project  Shocked
1672  Other / Off-topic / Re: What is your favorite car????? on: June 20, 2014, 10:32:52 AM
Currently I am driving this (my fav - so comfy & utilitarian):

But LA freeways are too crowded and traffic irritates me.  I am looking to upgrade to this:
1673  Other / Off-topic / Re: I have 30 days to live. on: June 20, 2014, 09:40:31 AM
I would probably do the same crap I'm doing everyday, but probably try to piss faster  Grin

I would be surprise if you do

Wouldn't you want to concentrate on what you like and those you love?

I do concentrate on my family.  That's why I am happy now.  I could go out today with no regrets.  I wouldn't burn through my money though since I would leave it for my family.
1674  Other / Off-topic / Re: if you could go back in time what would you change on: June 20, 2014, 09:36:05 AM
I am assuming that if I changed something in the past my current life would not exist.  If that were the case I wouldn't change a thing since I love my family.  If I could though, I would never have gone to medical school... mistake of a lifetime.
1675  Other / Off-topic / Re: What were the most disturbing scenes in movies or televison shows? on: June 20, 2014, 09:32:39 AM
The opening scene to Cube scared the crap out of me.  I don't watch horror because it doesn't really scare me but that opening scene and the way it comes out of nowhere is just creepy.
1676  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What gear should i buy :) ? on: June 20, 2014, 09:13:43 AM
The way to approach mining now is to look at it from a kW perspective first, then price second

1/ which 3 or 4 miners on the market give me the most hashing power using 2 kW per hour
2/ filter out the miners that are preorders
3/ of those left, which is the cheapest

Then look at how many 2 kW power points/fuse circuits you have to fill up, and then every month run this little test again and buy the winning miner until your fuse box cannot take another...or your house turns into a blast furnace of heat.

What's weird is that the cyclical nature of ASICs is so shortlived that I'm sure we could see a pattern where certain vendors are more likely to succeed simply based on what hemisphere they are located in.  Right now it's summer in the top half and nobody is thinking about adding more heat (sans maybe the Icelandic folk).

1678  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: No ROI on future Mining, its a FACT! on: June 20, 2014, 09:07:58 AM
Here's the warning I wrote in November 2012. Pertinent then, still relevant today.

What I really worry about, is that new hardware will continue to come out frequently enough that people end up on a cycle of investing in hardware that basically never pays itself off as slightly newer hardware and higher diffs keep coming out. Sure at some stage the limits of technology will be reached, but given the best tech at the moment is going to be 65nm ASICs when CPUs are 28nm devices, I can see the cycle going on for some time, and then even if btc mining ASICs end up in line with CPU manufacturers, they still continue to evolve over time. Dramatic profits from ASICs will likely only last a couple of weeks at most for a lucky few. The rest of you who paid for devices that don't even exist yet will not be making any magical profit no matter how big the hashrate appears. Your proportion of the total bitcoin hashrate will remain pitiful.

Sigh...
The period of the "couple of weeks for a lucky few" has long since passed.

Oh it's still there, but the few have names now: BFL, Avalon, Hashfast, etc etc....

I'm still shocked people were able to +ROI in BTC with S1s.
1679  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [12000 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+NMC, Stratum, VarDiff, Private Servers on: June 20, 2014, 08:35:44 AM
Agree with above.  I've been mining since 2011 and no other pool has been as stable as BTCGuild - nobody.  Not ARS (now dead), Red (now dead), slush, Ozcoin, Bitminter, Eclipse, Eligius or that arrogant pool call Ghash.IO.

I can't speak for others but I also have fewer rejects than GHash.IO mining from the west coast of US. I also find the interface a lot better here.

Keep up the good work Eleuthria - I may have what is a measly 300GH/s currently but at one point I was 1% of the network Tongue
1680  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Antminer S1 Soon at a Loss - What to do With It? on: June 19, 2014, 09:56:21 AM
Unless you're selling in bulk most people won't be able to sell off the S1 with shipping since that would negate any earnings potential.  If you can find a buyer locally you might get some $ for it.
