2642  Other / Meta / Re: The cancer that is Ponzi on: March 03, 2014, 11:27:03 PM
There is a reason Ponzi are criminal. Why else would Bernie Madoff gone to prison? Is it no longer a game when it involves millions of dollars?

The reality is there are no set odds to the "game" of Ponzi because it is stacked against you from the start to only benefit the operator. If you fail to see this, I really cannot explain it any other way.

There is a difference between deceiving people and offering all sorts of "investments" which turn out to be ponzis, and inviting people to gamble money into something that calls itself a ponzi, where the rules are known upfront.

I cleaned it up + neg-repped them.

Should they and other fraudulently obtained items be reported?

Yes, please.

Does this xbox scam actually still even work? Would've thought Microsoft would be wise to it now.

A lot of big companies (Microsoft, Apple, Amazon) are scammed with similar methods, so this is nothing new.

2645  Economy / Speculation / Re: Peter R's theory on the collapse of MtGox and its effect on the price of bitcoin on: March 03, 2014, 03:50:38 PM
But theft was hardly a concern.  In October of 2010, bitcoins were trading for $0.10 and the half a million bitcoins held by MtGox was worth only $50,000.   But still Mark took precautions, diligently moving bitcoins to offline storage and leaving only what was necessary for customer withdrawals online.   He truly wanted both his business and bitcoin to succeed.

This may look like Mark bought Mt.Gox from Jed McCaleb in 2010, but the ownership did not change until March 6th, 2011:

We now have 11 letters. We need another 9 users who feel they have been defrauded and willing to participate in a criminal case against mt.gox poland to be successful.

Have you tried asking people on forum.bitcoin.pl?

Ignore the altcoin sub forums in your preferences or just don't use the show new posts link. I never use that anyway because it brings up so much irrelevant crap and I just manually check the boards for topics of interest instead.

It used to be better 2-3 years ago, when there were 1-2k posts/day, and not as many shitcoins.

Do you really have a use for a local copy of the blockchain?

If you don't, then I'm sure you'd find it much more convenient to use a Multibit or Electrum, you won't have to store 20 GB of data, and wait days to start using the client.

Mods please ban user FURSELER

Please look at his recent post history.  Posting obscene / pornographic material in many threads.  I've reported the ones I've seen, but they can't be removed fast enough!

They (or him) deleted his posts.

He was banned:

sorry guys but something urgent came up and i have to go offline for a bit. Back in 2h

sorry but I didn't understand what you mean. Is this action only for people who wired PLN to Gox' account at WBK Bank Zachodni?
If a user had Euros on his account resulting from BTC trading instead of deposit, aren't those funds supposed to be still located on the Polish bank?

I transferred 35000€ to the Bank, so i am whit you.

on this way you will get back max. 5000 PLN as you can read earlier in this posts. So it is a max around 1200€
against 35000€

not a good idea i think!

you can only recover 5000PLN because mt.gox poland set their nominal/original/opening capital at 5000PLN.

If I'm not mistaken that would mean only 5k PLN can be recovered in total, not per person, and the rest would have to be recovered from Mt.Gox based in Japan (they're the sole shareholder of Mt.Gox Poland).

Ah right. Is he just testing the options out or is this how it's going to be now?

I think it will stay. And if it doesn't help with the spam theymos can always change it so that only Hero Members would be able to have links in their sigs, or something like that.
2656  Other / Meta / Re: Has something gone wrong with the forum? on: February 26, 2014, 11:09:00 PM
Grin

Perhaps the allowed signature styling should change with activity score / membergroup. Like:
- Newbie: No styling (including links) allowed. Max 40 characters.
- Jr. Member: Links allowed. Max 100 characters.
- Member: Unlimited length.
- Full: Color allowed.
- Sr. Member: Size allowed
- Hero: Background color allowed

Then newbies will be less effective advertisers, which would hopefully significantly reduce the incentive for low-content posts. And when people become capable of effectively advertising through their signatures, they'll have invested a lot of time into their accounts, and they won't risk being banned by spamming.
2657  Local / Polski / Re: #MtgoxPoland: Looking for legal representation (tips from .pl Bitcoiners wanted) on: February 26, 2014, 04:32:50 PM
edit: btw, this is a sp. z o.o. (a Polish equivalent of LLC) with a minimum capital required by law, so you you will only be able to recover 5000 zł from them (that's about ~1650 USD at current exchange rates). If you want to recover more than that, then you will need to go after MT.GOX CO.LTD.
According to this http://prawo.rp.pl/artykul/597246.html, he can get more than 5000PLN from the shareholders.

That's what I said: MT.GOX CO.LTD is the sole shareholder.
2658  Local / Polski / Re: #MtgoxPoland: Looking for legal representation (tips from .pl Bitcoiners wanted) on: February 26, 2014, 03:21:39 PM
Yes, saw that as well.  As far as I could google, this is the person that ran bitomat.pl, that was "bailed out" by Mtgox back in the day right (https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Bitomat)?

Yeah, that's him.

Interesting, thanks for the info. Still if there is more money on that bank account, and it is possible to freeze it via legal way, it should be possible to recuperate more than (a fraction of) that minimum capital that is (I assume) set away on some blocked bank account?

There might be some hope in doing that, but I'm not a lawyer.

2659  Local / Polski / Re: #MtgoxPoland: Looking for legal representation (tips from .pl Bitcoiners wanted) on: February 26, 2014, 12:23:12 PM
Bartłomiej Szabat acts as a prokurent (a type of a representative) of Mt.Gox in case you're interested:

date of birth: 24/09/1981

edit: btw, this is a sp. z o.o. (a Polish equivalent of LLC) with a minimum capital required by law, so you you will only be able to recover 5000 zł from them (that's about ~1650 USD at current exchange rates). If you want to recover more than that, then you will need to go after MT.GOX CO.LTD.

What a news, a company stating that they are solid and that they are at their financial peak!

Well, GOX didn't state any of the things these did.
