1741  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: British Authorities (HMRC )Seek Data from Crypto Exchanges on: August 12, 2019, 03:01:13 AM
More likely it results in a negative for Capital Gains. This should lower your amount of owing taxes depending on the tax system involved. If they tax you on the gain you receive "relief" on the loss. What I would look into more is whether or not they create a barter ruling. If you are using it to buy goods as opposed to cashing out it isn't treated as a capital gain. I'm not sure if that can be used in the case of services offered or not.

I find it hard to believe any government would allow for that.

There is no money to be made going after small fish. They will hope that a pop-up or notice is enough to convince you to dig and report enough to be close to accurate and compliant. They will be looking into people who move around and trade in the 10's of thousands to millions a year. I wouldn't be surprised if in a few years exchanges were filing tax documents and no longer leaving it up to the customers.

That's very likely, brokerage platforms do it, and even Steam will ask for your information if you sell 200 items a year or something close to that.
1742  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Status of WEX (World Exchange Services) on: August 12, 2019, 02:47:27 AM
Wex.nz closed down not due to some countries' authorities but due to internal disputes/thievery. It probably wasn't easy to run the business when they had to shut down btc-e and pretend there's no connection between btc-e and wex.
1743  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Status of WEX (World Exchange Services) on: August 12, 2019, 12:29:25 AM
45% haircut was only if you wanted to get your money right away, if you waited a couple weeks longer the haircut was 38%, and it was converted into tokens which could be sold for about half of their nominal value, effectively lowering the haircut to ~19%
1744  Local / Polski / Re: kiedy po raz pierwszy uslyszales i zainwestowales w BTC? on: August 11, 2019, 10:22:27 AM
1745  Local / Polski / Re: Garść statystyk dotyczących sytemu Meritów z naszego lokalnego subforum... on: August 11, 2019, 01:21:20 AM
1746  Local / Alternatywne kryptowaluty / Re: Polish Hyde Park - altcoiny & tokeny on: August 10, 2019, 11:33:20 PM

IPO w sensie IEO rozumiem.

1747  Other / Meta / Re: [FARM SUPPRESSION] Clearing the Horde of Spammers on: August 10, 2019, 10:25:35 PM
I assume that by "profitable" you mean that someone could be a sig spammer for a living.

In theory it is possible for a sig spammer to post for a living in a 1st world country, but I don't think this scales the same way it does for those in 3rd world countries.

I would assume you need to earn at least 0.1 btc per week to reasonably use sig spamming as your only income. With btc trading at $11,000, this works out to $57,200/year, but you will need to pay self employment taxes totaling 15.3%, so your income would be around the equivalent of a salary of $49,600. If you remove $4,200 for health insurance/HSA ($350/month, which is probably on the low side), you have an income of roughly $45,400/year.

The above demonstrates at most 30 people from 1st world countries could earn a living from signature advertising, or maybe around 35 if you count those needing to make silly amounts of posts (>400) per week

In Western/Southern Europe you can find people living off half of that without being poor, especially outside bigger cities. But yeah, I may have overstated the amount of available slots. There are probably way more slots with altcoins/tokens/ICOs/whatever but it's much more of a gamble whether they'll get paid or whether whatever remuneration they receive is going to be worth the effort.

BTW, 400 posts/week or more isn't unfeasible as actmyname has previously demonstrated.

I think this partially stems from a lack of moderation. The lack of moderation leads to less non-sig spammer users being interested in reading/posting in these sections, which increases the percentage of spam in these sections, which cascades into even fewer non-spammers wanting to post in these sections.

True, we could do with some more mods. Another problem are users whose posts are of barely acceptable quality but not bad enough to get banned.

Low standards of living is most commonly caused by corruption and oppression in governments.

There are also many jobs that must be done on a localized basis.

Probably most importantly, the sig-spammers use very similar skills that basic globalized jobs require, which implies the sig spam problem is not a lack of jobs in their local economy.

Corruption and oppression thrives where they live because there isn't enough outside pressure. It's easy to see when comparing Eastern European countries, those which joined the EU started improving even before joining the EU, those which stayed outside the EU largely remain poor and corrupt. In Southeast Asia countries which opened themselves to outside investments and liberalized their markets have also seen corruption decrease because that's one of the ways you convince foreigners your country is a safe place to invest money in.

Also, when poor countries have more money, jobs for which there is demand locally also start paying more.

The idea is that these people are dealt with quickly enough so that the investment cannot be easily recouped if all you are posting is garbage. Those that have recently paid the fee, and are wearing a commercial signature could be closely monitored for the first couple months, and garbage they post can be aggressively removed. If someone has enough low effort/garbage posts removed (not bumps, nor off topic posts that have moderate effort put into them) within a specific unit of time, they should be considered for a ban automatically.

That sounds like a lot of work, starting with theymos having to rework moderation tools, but not an entirely bad idea.

1748  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why are big Bitcoin miners not destroying Alt coins with a 51% attack? on: August 10, 2019, 08:02:09 PM
It's been done in the past but why would they care about inconsequential shitcoins? Legal liability aside, monetizing 51% attacks might not prove to be as profitable as mining, as successfull & profitable 51% attacks could also cause the value of the attacked coins to plummet, vulnerable ones too once it would become apparent what a bigger miner is doing.
1749  Local / Polski / Re: Garść statystyk dotyczących sytemu Meritów z naszego lokalnego subforum... on: August 10, 2019, 07:44:40 PM

1750  Local / Polski / Re: Garść statystyk dotyczących sytemu Meritów z naszego lokalnego subforum... on: August 10, 2019, 07:02:44 PM

No nie do końca prawda.

1751  Economy / Services / Re: Job offer for Mexican people on: August 10, 2019, 02:38:24 AM
If it's just about IP ban or restriction, he can just use VPN to bypass those and just gambling in sportsbook that are popular in the forum without any requirement of KYC. If this job requires some KYC, then maybe it could be risky if somebody will use your account after you created it.

Obviously it's for KYC reasons - selfie, postal code verification, stuff like that. And if there's a problem with an account it'd be good to be able to reach the person who went through the KYC.
1752  Economy / Services / Re: Job offer for Mexican people on: August 10, 2019, 12:50:41 AM
How a sportsbetting doesn't involve any betting? Huh Why not search up for local Mexican people?

My guess is he's looking for people to help him create accounts with the help of the locals. These accounts can be later resold, or used by himself.
1753  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: List of physical attacks against Bitcoin owners on: August 09, 2019, 11:59:08 PM
I see the link doesn't list any people arrested by their governments (many countries), or who also had their miners stolen by secret police (Venezuela).
1754  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Sats rather than Bitcoin - will it cause a price pump? on: August 09, 2019, 11:28:34 PM
We do this everyday here. Some people for speed just skip the zeroes. If someone says 94, it means 94 thousand, or they say 940 for 940 thousand.

mBTC is garbage because, it has both non decimals and decimals. Give me a brake decimals from decimals? Get lost.
Also "at current prices", is your biggest flaw. You cannot push a BIP over something that can and WILL change and is outside of Bitcoin to begin with.

If my internet wasn't garbage i would show you pictures of prices. Restaurant menus, shops, everything is expressed like satoshis, now that my currency is 75% the value of a satoshi. You should go to history, since you never lived a reality with hyperinflation, how did people lived with those zeroes, and you will find the same answer. Some Euro countries did have fun with zeroes before the €, but Americans and British have no idea.

Do not try to force an euro / dollar centric view on prices. Satoshis do work FINE, mBTC do not. A hundred million satoshis isn't even hard, i will refrain from talking about the Pengo, everyone loves the Pengo, socialist central planified economy at its best...

PS: If our current gov doesn't fall, we WILL dethrone Hungary, but first Zimbabwe...

I could say the same, you're looking at this from a perspective of someone living in a country with hyperinflation. Most people live in countries where the inflation is in the single digits per year, and to them mBTC will make more sense, at least at current BTC exchange rates. Ideally all Bitcoin clients should have the option to switch between all major units. I find it more convenient when the prices don't have too many digits and I don't have to guess like you described it what unit someone's using if it's not clearly marked.
1755  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin dominance hits 69.5%, alts lagging behind on: August 09, 2019, 11:02:00 PM
Not surprising yet people now is putting their interest to Bitcoin which causes for its dominance rating to hit up that high but eventually there would be a market reversal or lets say there would be a day on when alts boom once again. We have seen this things for how many times but for now, confidence of people majorly on bitcoin itself.

There is no guarantee that there will be a market reversal for altcoins.

Too many people found themselves burned when they crashed more than Bitcoin, and it's clear they were overhyped so much that generally speaking few people have confidence they have any real-world uses. There's also a feedback loop, 'why buy when others aren't buying?', all the marketing, 'partnerships' mean nothing as everyone knows it's all a scam. It won't be easy to get a repeat of the 2017 altcoin/token bull market. BTC dominance on CMC is 69.9% now, it's likely to go back to >80% levels unseen since early 2017.
1756  Other / Meta / Re: Limit signature campaigns on: August 09, 2019, 10:04:14 PM
I mean it's no secret that people shitpost for sig campaigns. I think if we put a cap on their earnings, for example, once you've earned $5, you need to stop posting.

Also, impose bans on account sales on Bitcointalk, so people don't buy accounts to bypass restrictions on Newbie users that are there for a freaking reason

I mean, if you can buy higher ranked accounts, well that kinda defeats the point of having ranking systems now doesn't it?

Sorry, I'm gonna keep this brief. I know there's been plenty of talking on this issue already.

Newbies can already bypass many restrictions by buying Copper membership:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=credit;promote

Account sales are unlikely to be banned because people will still sell them off-site. How do you prevent that?

I see some user here suggesting the removal of signature but still proudly wearing one.

They may believe that signatures in aggregate have a harmful influence on the quality of discourse on the forum, without thinking of themselves as a spammer (and without being one).
1757  Local / Polski / Re: Garść statystyk dotyczących sytemu Meritów z naszego lokalnego subforum... on: August 09, 2019, 09:15:27 PM
Aktywność spadła to i meritów mniej.
1758  Other / Meta / Re: [FARM SUPPRESSION] Clearing the Horde of Spammers on: August 09, 2019, 08:49:48 PM
Unfortunately, there are a few bad apples out there that take advantage of the money making opportunity associated with signature campaigns.

Depending on the board one visits, it sometimes seems as if there are entire orchards of rotting apples...

This highlights some of the drawbacks associated with globalism (globalism is not perfect, but is a net positive to the world economy, and the standard of living of everyone).

I'd say there are two reasons:

a. not enough globalism, there is enough for people from poorer countries to spam for money because they have Internet access, but if the world was more globalized there would be no need for that as they would have more opportunities at 'normal' jobs, because it would be easier to invest money where they live, and they would have an easier time moving to richer countries;
b. it's easy to run the numbers that sig spamming can be profitable even for people in one of the richest countries (i.e. 14 Eyes countries) if done using multiple accounts.

Ultimately, disincentives need to be given for users to not post garbage, and incentives need to be given for users to post useful content. A modest fee (by third world standards) to enable signatures with any meaningful features would probably put a fairly large dent into the amount of useless posts because those who spam would be afraid of loosing the money they invested in their fee to enable signatures.

They'd just treat it as an investment soon to be recouped.

1759  Other / Meta / Re: @Theymos sir plsz on: August 09, 2019, 06:27:38 PM
Staff were pretty much in unison that something needs to change with it and if I remember correctly most were in agreement that it was no longer really needed.

Yeah, already in 2014. It wouldn't be a great waste to see that section archived, if someone wants to share a piece of interesting news or a news article to spur a discussion, the Bitcoin Discussion board can still be used.
1760  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Anyone back on WEX? on: August 09, 2019, 05:57:43 PM
anyone, please confirm if viva-e.com is another scam or really working. I can not find invite code anywhere.

Their last twitter account doesn't mention them and hasn't made any tweets this year:

https://twitter.com/wexnz

So you can safely assume it's just another scam.
