26503  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Help! 5 things I think I know about crypto. Are they all wrong? on: July 04, 2016, 03:30:32 PM
Litecoin is faster costs less and is not hitting a transactions wall.
It should do better as time goes on irrelevant of what BTC does.
Although I agree on your first 3 points, and it's basis is better than Bitcoin, it needs more users to go up in value. That hasn't happened for years, and I see no reason for Litecoin to become more popular all of a sudden.
It lost a lot of its value against Bitcoin recently.
26504  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: ¦¯¦¦¯¦ Rollin.io Free Lottery Tickets ¦¯¦¦¯¦ Daily Giveaway ¦¯¦¦¯¦ 235 mBTC won on: July 04, 2016, 10:52:25 AM
Rollin Mods like Lottery, and often buy tickets. As you can see from the Results in the starting post, Mods also win a lot. This has been raising eyebrows, first very subtle, lately with stronger words.
Since Lottery is supposed to be fun, fair and also a promotion, it makes no sense to run a Lottery that raises eyebrows.
For this reason, Mods madcoin, Wilhelm and me won't join for a while. We'll also return tickets that get donated to us.
It turns out the Lottery Pot is also lower without Mods joining Cheesy After a small survey in chat this morning, nobody was against Mods joining. So from now on, Mods are back in Lottery!
26505  Economy / Gambling / Re: Primedice 4 Launches TODAY! on: July 04, 2016, 09:41:58 AM
I was hoping for more contrast, but it got worse. Light colors on a colored background are hard to see, especially on a laptop that doesn't have an expensive screen, so the viewing angle is limited.
This means that I can read the top of the screen nicely, but the light gray text on the bottom is barely visible.

My screen doesn't have this problem when it's just black and white, and even the blue-on-blue text on bitconitalk is easier to read.

When my browser is not so wide, this happens:

When I disable animations, it still shows several animations.
26506  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: ¦¯¦¦¯¦ Rollin.io Free Lottery Tickets ¦¯¦¦¯¦ Daily Giveaway ¦¯¦¦¯¦ 443 mBTC won on: July 04, 2016, 08:20:16 AM

Congratulations james1 for winning 62 mBTC with a Happy Hour Lottery Ticket.
Full Lottery Results are of course public.

The winning Lottery Ticket was #90.

Experimental
Currently Lottery Bot is still experimental. If any problem pops up, please know it's unintentional and we love to hear about it so we can fix it.

Yesterday madcoin updated Lottery Bot. He added more info to the message that shows up in Chatter Box when the winner is drawn. Unfortunately, a mistake resulted in the wrong number being shown:

380 is the total number of Tickets, not the winning number. The mistake only effected the message in Chat, the prize was sent to the real winner.
As always, the winning number can be verified using the server hash and the 2 block hashes.

The next Draw is in 12 hours and 40 minutes. You can claim Free Tickets here as always.

26509  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: did you put all your money into bitcoin? on: July 03, 2016, 08:59:33 AM
I put most of my money into bitcoin how about you?
If you did that 6 years ago it was a great move. If you did it recently, it's a gamble. It can still pay of big in the long term, but so can any stock of a startup company. And just like the startup company can lose most of its value, so can Bitcoin.
A much safer investment would be to spread your risk. Using an ETF for instance.
26510  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTB] Mining hardware for group buy and starting a LEGIT cloud mining on: July 03, 2016, 06:43:30 AM
  • The wharehouse is powered by solar panels, over a contiguous land of about 5 acres for a total power of 1500 Kw
..
  • What i have in mind is: putting the solar farm off grid
How do you plan to do this? You want to mine 24/7 to utilize your mining hardware. If you have 1500 kW peak you'll need a huge battery storage system including power converters.
In all practical applications a grid-connection is cheaper.
26511  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: got an email from HashOcean on: July 02, 2016, 09:52:14 PM
If they send 700,000 people an email asking for 0.015 BTC, that's just a genius last step to get more money out of the people they scammed. I expect a large part of that 700,000 people to fall for it, because they fell for the ponzi scam in the first place. So if 50,000 people pay, that's an easy 750 BTC again for the scamsite!

26513  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH price soaring. Are you going to move some BTC into ETH? on: July 02, 2016, 03:01:15 PM
The mining-halt argument is based on the fact that it takes 2016 blocks (about 2 weeks normally) for difficulty to change. If income were to drop sufficiently, then miners would drop out, which would slow block times, which would lead to lower income, more miners dropping out, lower incomes still, etc, in a vicious cycle that would drop hashrate to zero before the network had chance to retarget.
Still, that would require all miners to stop at the same time. It would be very interesting to see what happens if 90% of the miners stop. That means 2 weeks turn into 20 weeks, and after 20 weeks the difficulty drops 90%. That means all miners join again, and suddenly we have one block a minute for a day, until difficulty goes up again.
Satoshi just thought about everything when it comes to mining.

It's more interesting to see the effect if a part of bitcoin-miners move to an altcoin. That coin will experience a huge increase in mining capacity all of a sudden.

ETHs price going to the ground now Smiley
too many fuckups in code it seems
$12 for 1 Eth is not even near "the ground". In my opinion it's still much higher than a coin with this much problems is worth.
26514  Economy / Gambling / Re: chopcoin.io - The new interactive Bitcoin game! on: July 02, 2016, 02:52:53 PM
OMG this game is so difficult how in the hell do these guys get so big. I spawn and just get eaten or i'm running away from bigger blobs that eat the others then they massive and come eat me lol. It takes long ti get big, don't think ill wage money on this game.
Practice makes perfect! It takes hours and hours of "training" to become good at Agar. You can learn a lot watching other players, tricks like "self feeding" to turn many small blobs into 1 big blob (and some much smaller blobs) are very nice to master. Eating virusses once you're big enough to gain more mass (although this doesn't work in all agar-versions), eating small blobs when you split straight through a virus, and more. There is a lot to this game, and that's also what limits this to throw money in the game: it's only worth it if you're good enough.
On the other hand, that's the same with poker, and it doesn't stop people from playing that either.

BTW the Dutch are in a similar position - they are pouring money into the EU and getting very little out - I wouldn't be surprised if they decided they want out too.
And for exactly that reason, the Dutch government will never ask the population for their opinion.
26520  Economy / Economics / Re: If you hold 1 BTC you are a pioneer on: June 29, 2016, 08:02:56 AM
Although I like the statement that we're all pioneers, you can only know that for sure when much more people use it. With blockchain being full without space for more transactions that won't happen though, the netwerk simply can't handle it.
What do you mean by this? that the block chain size is growing substantially and it will eventually become to large? I can see this happening, as time goes on, the blockchain grows exponentially. Its already around ~80Gb. Factor increased transactions, increased usage, its not unfeasible to see this number grow into the terabytes in a few years.
The total blockchain size doesn't matter, but the blocks are full. It's not possible for (say) 10 times more users to make 10 times more transactions, unless blocks grow in size from 1 to 10 megabyte each.
